"California Dreamin'" is an indisputable classic, but they had so many great songs. I am partial to "Dancing Bear", which I find very haunting, and more downbeat than a lot of their other tracks. "No Salt on Her Tail" is another honorable mention.
I know they hated it - the People Like Us album, but I have a soft spot for Pearl and the title track.

It's a shame that Brian Wilson wasn't given a crack at producing them circa 1966-67.
Songs like this one, with the Mamas and Papas harmonies... seems like a great match.

Michelle gets short shrift from a lot of people, often deemed a whorish bimbo who existed in the group for the sole purpose of being the "pretty face", but she did contribute a lot vocally, mainly supporting roles. I think her voice was lovely. She had an ethereal, light soprano voice that was easy on the ears. She couldn't sing like Cass (most people can't), but most of their songs wouldn't be the same without her. I always enjoyed the few occasions where she got to showcase it.

I love "Safe in my Garden" It starts off so sweet, and then "BOOM" all 4 voices come at you. 4 different, distinct voices, Michelle perfect soprano voice counter-balancing Cass's "voice of the ages"( my mom called her voice that). Their 4-person harmony was perfect.
