Is it the actual eyes or the musculature around the eye that create the dead eyes appearance? In Ted Buddy’s case, there’s a tenseness in the muscles around his eyes that make his eyes look intense, imo.

Yes. I briefly dated someone who had dead eyes. We began getting to know each other through a social media site. He was intelligent, funny and easy to chat with.

Then he started sending me selfies. Usually he was outdoors, wearing sunglasses. He had a strong jawline and a nice smile. Then he sent one without the sunglasses. I was startled by his eyes. I couldn't reconcile those eyes with the funny, charming person I was falling for. I just told myself that it was just a bad photo.

We did hook up. When I saw him in person....those eyes were so dark and even though he was smiling, his eyes weren't. It's hard to explain, but it creeped me out and I was a little afraid to look into his eyes. Just so dark.

We had lunch in a very nice restaurant, I enjoyed our conversations. He was interesting and when I didn't fixate on his eyes, I had a good time. I actually wanted to go out with him again.

And I did. Again, I tried to ignore those eyes. Again, I had a nice time, until we were alone.

We were getting intimate and I was overwhelmed by the darkness in his eyes. It sounds crazy, I know, but the darkness grew, his face changed as though he took his smiling face mask off and I felt like I was being hypnotized. I know, I know how weird that sounds. It was only for a brief second that it happened, but I knew I had to get away from him.

It's still such a vivid memory and it still creeps me out thinking about it .

I agree that Ted Bundy did not have dead eyes in everyday life. At times his eyes looked almost warm and smiley which is probably how he got women to trust him.

R42, I said that I was having a great time, but something I ate at lunch wasn't agreeing with me and I needed to cut our date short. He told me to lie down, that it should pass, but I said I was having stomach cramps and it would be best if I called uber and went home.

He threw my coat at me in such a rage and said to just get out. So, I totally dodged a bullet and learned to always trust my gut and not my heart.

I actually was very upset about the whole thing. I really liked him, or who it was that he pretended to be. I still miss that charming, funny guy who made me feel like we had a connection. But I'm glad I got out when I did. I never saw rage like that.

Years ago I remember Perez Hilton used to call Audrina Patridge “elevator eyes,” implying her eyes were vacant & her brain didn’t function all the way to the top floor. I looked it up on the internet just now & of course can’t find a single reference!

Meh, that was not a very convincing article to your point. Lack of pupil dilation after viewing disturbing images? How many people would actually notice that? And not something that would show in a typical face pick. As it states most of them avoid eye contact not the "dead eyes" stare people claim is a dead giveaway. It's no more real than gay face.
