Closet smokers in Hollywood

Any inside gossip about people we'd be surprised to learn are smokers?

by Anonymousreply 102May 27, 2023 2:15 AM

It's a shame people need to hide a perfectly legal habit, the US is headed back to prohibition.

by Anonymousreply 1November 6, 2022 1:20 AM

Why DO many celebs lie about smoking?

by Anonymousreply 2November 6, 2022 2:46 PM

most of them probably.

by Anonymousreply 3November 6, 2022 4:49 PM

This would be a very long list. Cigarettes and marijuana are both popular in Hollywood.
Closet smokers in Hollywood

Are we talking about closeted Hollywood celebrities who smoke dick in private?

by Anonymousreply 8November 6, 2022 7:41 PM

Come on...who else lights up on the sly?

by Anonymousreply 9December 3, 2022 12:26 AM

Helen Hunt is/was a big smoker.

by Anonymousreply 10December 3, 2022 12:28 AM

So now we're going to shame people for smoking, here?

by Anonymousreply 11December 3, 2022 12:30 AM

Having worked in motion picture/tv, damn-near everyone smoked.

by Anonymousreply 12December 3, 2022 12:31 AM

I would be interested as well as they all hide it nowadays

by Anonymousreply 13December 3, 2022 12:34 AM

r11 not shame, just name. It's interesting to find out celebrities are normal people with bad habits.

by Anonymousreply 14December 3, 2022 12:38 AM

Sarah Jessica Parker

by Anonymousreply 15December 3, 2022 12:39 AM

r7's link did not work. I need names. Am a closet smoker with respect to my colleagues at work. My crush and hero Obama used to smoke. Hope he quit. We need him around on the planet for as long as possible.

by Anonymousreply 16December 3, 2022 12:42 AM

Does smoking help keep weight off or help lose weight?

by Anonymousreply 17December 3, 2022 12:45 AM

It seems like Jennifer Anniston might have stopped smoking but she used to be a [bold]very[/bold] heavy smoker.

A lot of Hollywood stars smoke because it keeps their weight in check.

by Anonymousreply 18December 3, 2022 12:45 AM

Debra Messing

by Anonymousreply 19December 3, 2022 12:45 AM

A list of non-smokers would be much shorter. Actors and actresses have always smoked.

by Anonymousreply 20December 3, 2022 12:51 AM

GOOP.

But most celebs stopped smoking now after they got hold of semaglutide.

by Anonymousreply 21December 3, 2022 12:52 AM

r20 even nowadays? I'm surprised to hear that. I would have thought they were too vain. Isn't it terrible for your skin?

by Anonymousreply 22December 3, 2022 1:03 AM

I remember JA smoking outside Umberto Salon in BH…..before she was a household name.

by Anonymousreply 23December 3, 2022 1:07 AM

Hollywood is like the service industry, everyone smokes!

by Anonymousreply 24December 3, 2022 5:05 AM

by Anonymousreply 25March 19, 2023 5:57 PM

Cate Blanchett is a chain smoker

by Anonymousreply 26March 19, 2023 5:58 PM

Jennifer Aniston.

by Anonymousreply 27March 19, 2023 5:59 PM

R21 you think they just smoke for weight loss?

by Anonymousreply 28March 19, 2023 6:00 PM

R22 even at drama school in the prohibitive health-nut 2010s, every aspiring actor & scriptwriter kid I knew smoked. It's tradition.

by Anonymousreply 29March 19, 2023 6:01 PM

R7 link doesn’t work

by Anonymousreply 30March 19, 2023 6:02 PM

Hardcore anti-smokers probably eat their own boogers. Smokers already hide around corners. People love to shame others and smoking is the one thing they can openly shame people for, forget the drunks falling down then driving or the diabetes patient finishing their 4th Big Mac, let’s shit on the person I faintly see hiding behind a tree in the distance with a cigarette.

by Anonymousreply 31March 19, 2023 6:06 PM
hiding behind a tree in the distance

Yeah, if only.

by Anonymousreply 32March 19, 2023 6:10 PM

R32 catches a 5-second whiff of a white person smoking a cigarette every six months and is traumatized.

No comment on his constantly inhaling 2nd-hand weed smoke from BIPOC.

by Anonymousreply 33March 19, 2023 6:12 PM

Rooney on the cross ✝️

by Anonymousreply 34March 19, 2023 6:20 PM

Claire Danes was a huge one! I’ve seen many celebrities smoke at screenings and such but if you combo the number smoked PLUS the serious effort to hide it she may win!

Not surprised R36, her voice gives it away

by Anonymousreply 37March 19, 2023 6:32 PM

I'm surprised Cate smokes. She seems so proper

by Anonymousreply 38March 19, 2023 6:33 PM

Smoking became socially taboo years ago so it's more about promoting a wholesome image than anything else.

I also think some of them may hide it because they have health & wellness lines or have endorsed sportswear lines. I believe Kate Hudson smokes yet is the face of her activewear line. And we all know about GOOP.

by Anonymousreply 39March 19, 2023 6:41 PM

Smoking cigarettes is one of those rich or poor things now. The wealthy pay almost $18 a pack for Parliaments and the poor buy those shitty brands for $4.50 a pack. The middle class vape.

by Anonymousreply 40March 19, 2023 6:43 PM

The link at r7 doesn’t work, so I’m not sure if this is the same page the poster was talking about. This page catalogs female celebrities and cigarettes, whether they’ve smoked in a film or in real life (IRL). It’s clearly a fetish of whoever made it. The list super dated now. I remember seeing it probably 20 years ago now and it looks like it hasn’t been updated in years. Hopefully the owner didn’t die from emphysema or some other smoking related illness.

by Anonymousreply 41March 19, 2023 6:44 PM

It’s hilarious people who vape and look down on smokers. Most smokers I know now only have a few per day on the sly, while the vapers are hitting their little cartridges 24/7.

by Anonymousreply 42March 19, 2023 6:45 PM

R38 have you listened to her? She has a wonderfully rich smokers voice.

Yes. Smokers voices are better - well unless you go the Kathleen Turner route.

by Anonymousreply 43March 19, 2023 6:45 PM
Smoking cigarettes is one of those rich or poor things now. The wealthy pay almost $18 a pack for Parliaments and the poor buy those shitty brands for $4.50 a pack. The middle class vape.

I've never thought of Parliaments as a wealthy-person cigarette. I thought Marlboro (reds or lights) was the standard.

by Anonymousreply 44March 19, 2023 6:50 PM

Rob Reiner was an advocate for anti smoking laws, he lobbied for it as well. There is a hilarious South Park episode that has Reiner in it preaching about the dangers of smoking. It brings up his hypocrisy because through out the episode he's shoving his face with food all the time and having a hard time breathing. Lol

R38, it's fun to watch Dick Cavett repeats on Decades Channel (soon to be replaced by more forgetful 70s and 80s syndication garbage and re-branded Catchy Comedy.) Anyway, his guests, usually politicians and journalists all have that smoky whiskey voice reminiscent of narrators from that era. You can tell they smoke and drank as was the norm at that time.

by Anonymousreply 46March 19, 2023 6:53 PM

Oops! R46 was intended for R43

Apologies. Have a smoke on me.

by Anonymousreply 47March 19, 2023 6:55 PM

It has been 10 years since I worked with her, but Kate Winslet. used to bum them from me (crew). I fucking love her, she was polite and hilarious, so I'd give her one anytime.

Cate Blanchett smoked, but had her own. Different project a few years later. I hated her, personally, but she was great to fit.

by Anonymousreply 48March 19, 2023 6:57 PM

She was a frosty, very grand lady with no sense of humor, and made messes.

by Anonymousreply 49March 19, 2023 6:59 PM

Gen Z is all hyped up on pills and marijuana products but judges smokers. They can fuck right off.

by Anonymousreply 50March 19, 2023 7:04 PM

R49, not to go too off-topic but I've watched her in a few interviews and she comes across as very confident but sometimes the mask slips and she seems shy and uncomfortable. Maybe the frosty veneer is her armor or like you said she could be a class A bitch.

by Anonymousreply 51March 19, 2023 7:05 PM

R50 couldn’t agree more! Also IVF which kills.

by Anonymousreply 52March 19, 2023 7:05 PM

I saw Matt Bomer smoking while he was filming something in NYC.

by Anonymousreply 53March 19, 2023 7:12 PM

Gen Z vapes like a motherfucker. They constantly have their little pod in their hand. The hilarity of them judging people by the means of drug delivery system is hilarious. It’s like Oxy addicts judging heroin addicts because they freebase.

by Anonymousreply 54March 19, 2023 7:12 PM

The millennials and Gen Zs all huff on their Glade Plugins much more than old Hollywood smoked.

by Anonymousreply 55March 19, 2023 7:17 PM

Aniston like Sarah Michelle Gellar had to whittle down her natural ethnic looks to resemble a barbie doll. She looked far better before she reassembled herself. No doubt she did smoke to maintain her extreme weight loss.

by Anonymousreply 56March 19, 2023 7:19 PM

Sometimes you'll see a celeb papped while vaping like Leo D. I suppose they think it's a healthier choice than cigarettes. Whatever the case may be he's back to smoking cigarettes so I guess it's not enough for a longtime smoker.

by Anonymousreply 57March 19, 2023 7:19 PM

Only real cigarettes help with weight loss. Lots of fatties vape.

by Anonymousreply 58March 19, 2023 7:29 PM

R56 how is Jen Anniston ethnic?

by Anonymousreply 59March 19, 2023 7:31 PM

R51 she is a class A bitch. The shy and uncomfortable shtick is an act

by Anonymousreply 60March 19, 2023 7:32 PM

R59 she’s Greek

by Anonymousreply 61March 19, 2023 7:34 PM

Thanks, R60. I've never met her so I'll take your word and R49's word for it.

by Anonymousreply 62March 19, 2023 7:46 PM

Kris Jenner

by Anonymousreply 63March 19, 2023 8:13 PM

I would guess that along with trying to stay thin, or to try to manage anxiety, actors smoke to feel “on” for their lines.

by Anonymousreply 64March 19, 2023 8:13 PM

If vape contains nicotine, then it should help you to lose weight.

by Anonymousreply 65March 19, 2023 8:32 PM

r58

because no one who is fat smokes right?

by Anonymousreply 66March 19, 2023 8:37 PM

I remember someone commenting with Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez got back together that it makes sense because they're some of the last few in Hollywood to still smoke cigarettes. Does J-Lo really smoke?

by Anonymousreply 67March 19, 2023 8:40 PM

R56 most true post on here today: and since SMG has allowed herself to gain weight to be her natural Jewish self she looks even worse and older. So I don’t want hear that between your face and ass crap , because it’s bullshit. It’s about your skin , weight, and most importantly bone structure.

by Anonymousreply 68March 19, 2023 8:41 PM

SMG looks much better now that she’s laid off the fillers. Her face didn’t move from like 2014-2021.

by Anonymousreply 69March 19, 2023 8:48 PM

Jon Hamm. That’s why he usually wears a vest or jacket even when it’s hot. But you can see it in his face now. And the booze doesn’t help. He is Don Draper, just dresses like a slob.

by Anonymousreply 70March 19, 2023 8:53 PM

What does wearing a vest or jacket have to do with smoking?

by Anonymousreply 71March 19, 2023 8:59 PM

Angela Lansbury, Carol Burnett, Debbie Reynolds, and Mary Tyler Moore (along with Jackie O, of course) were heavy smokers for years, but were very adamant about not being photographed smoking in public, as they thought it was harmful to their image. Even though they all eventually quit (not sure Jackie ever quit), MTM’s habit of over 25 years, combined with her Type 1 diabetes, contributed to the amputation of several toes, her near blindness, and an early demise.

by Anonymousreply 72March 19, 2023 8:59 PM
I've never thought of Parliaments as a wealthy-person cigarette. I thought Marlboro (reds or lights) was the standard.

Funny, because in the 1980s-1990s, it was mostly weirdo backwater schoolkids and College hipsters slumming it ironically who smoked Marbs. So obviously as smokes go they were very affordable and easy to get back then.

Parliaments are very popular on the East Coast with well-off types, along with Marlboro Lights.

Parliaments very popular out west as well, for hip younger people.

If I had money and personal space enough, I'd probably be a casual smoker, especially in anxious or social situations. Being so broke and in communal living space with nonsmokers in the 2020s makes that impossible, though.

Guess I could save up for a vape for Xmas, but I don't want popcorn lung, and I think they look like baby crackpipes and smell rank like cheap bodyspray perfume. At least normal tobacco cigs still have cool mature outsider cachet and smell delicious freshly-smoked.

by Anonymousreply 77March 19, 2023 10:01 PM

Smoking is disgusting. No one who actually cares about their health would do it. Hollyweird is all about doing unhealthy things to seem healthy: smoking, coke, extreme diets, cosmetic surgery. Thin = attractive, award winning star who commands higher pay. Fat = character actor, sidekick, joke, nominee.

by Anonymousreply 78March 19, 2023 10:07 PM

🎂 Proud Smoker who lived to celebrate my 95th Birthday !

by Anonymousreply 79March 19, 2023 10:11 PM
Hollyweird is all about doing unhealthy things to seem healthy: smoking, coke, extreme diets, cosmetic surgery.

This is true of many, many people in upper-income brackets in major metropolitan areas. It's not just Hollywood.

by Anonymousreply 80March 19, 2023 10:11 PM

R69 she needed them apparently! But her bone structure is terrible to begin with and she’s naturally a short, stocky person , so…

Does she even have any of her own hair left?

by Anonymousreply 81March 19, 2023 10:16 PM
I remember someone commenting with Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez got back together that it makes sense because they're some of the last few in Hollywood to still smoke cigarettes.

Lots of celebs are smokers.

by Anonymousreply 82March 20, 2023 1:21 AM

Back in the 90s it was common to see photos of celebrities with a cig in their hand in public places, many of them even smoked in photo shoots. That's very rare now, even though tons of celebs are smokers they all try to hide it with only a few exceptions. Sean Penn and Ben Affleck are two that come to mind, they don't give AF if they're photographed with a cig.

by Anonymousreply 83March 20, 2023 1:27 AM

Smoking is almost compulsory in Southern Europe, their life expectancy is a lot higher than the US.

Smoking & alcohol can contribute to disease but a good diet and balanced lifestyle can outweigh the risks. Americans eat like shit and therefore have high cancer rates. Alcohol is worse than cigarettes, especially since Americans binge drink but you’re not going to pry their booze away. Europeans drink in moderation.

by Anonymousreply 85March 20, 2023 4:21 AM

Betty Buckley used to play a game with Adam Rich in which she’d flick lit cigarettes at his hair.

Good times!

by Anonymousreply 86March 20, 2023 4:33 AM

R85, there was a local ABC NY News journalist who used that same rationale. He was a smoker who thought he could balance out his bad habit with exercise and healthy eating. His name was Roger Sharp and he died of lung cancer at the age of 50.

by Anonymousreply 87March 20, 2023 6:09 AM
Europeans drink in moderation.

by Anonymousreply 88March 20, 2023 10:09 AM

r82 I can believe that, but I'm surprised if J-Lo is. She's obsessively vain about her appearance.

by Anonymousreply 89March 20, 2023 10:31 AM

The racist at R33 has made several pro-smoking posts in here. Fuck cigarette smokers and their nasty habit, especially the ones who casually toss their butts on the ground. There’s nothing worse than stepping over littered cig butts, especially on a rainy day. Blech. Thank God smoking in public establishments is banned in my state, because there was nothing worse than coming home after a night out and smelling like stale cigarette smoke.

Oh, and white people smoke weed too, princess.

by Anonymousreply 90March 20, 2023 10:58 AM

Idk why but I associate smoking these days with Dee from It’s Always Sunny. Like it’s something hopeless loser barflys (affectionate) do.

Another happy side effect of the ban--no longer any call for people to douse themselves in heavy perfumes to mask the staleness. Nowadays the fashion is to smell clean and light and fresh from the shower or the gym.
