I was looking at the photos on TVLine's article comparing what the actors used to look like to their current appearances in the movie. My first thought was that these guys should be playing grandparents, not parents. I agree Billingsley is handsome, but he looks older than 51 in some of those shots.

But then Darren McGavin was 60 when they filmed the original, and playing the father of young kids. I guess it can be attributed to people looking older back then than people look now at the same age.

Yeah, Billingsley is looking really, really odd. He still has those intense blue eyes, but his face and body are odd.

Where's the redhaired bully Scut Farkas who grew up in real life to be a hot muscle-stud?

Peter Billingsley was hot about ten-fifteen years ago, but he looks like an old guy now.

I think I read that the reason they got a much older man to play the father was because from the perspective of a child, your parents look older than they are.

I'm assuming the new movie is from Ralphie's perspective instead of his kids', so the same justification won't work here then, unfortunately.

The original has long been overrated. And this doesn't look funny. Agree that Billingsley looks too old to have kids that age.

They recast the mom, she was played by Melinda Dillon in the original and now by Julie Hagerty. They could have recast the dad too but he probably worked better as a plot device if he was dead.

They should have recast everybody. These people are too ugly to lead a film. It’s like watching people from Walmart.

Did Melinda Dillon decline? I'm sad she isn't in it but Julie Haggerty is a good choice. I've actually like both of them since I was a kid especially Julie haggerty because I love the airplane movie so much also she reminds me of Mary Ramsey from the 10,000 Maniacs who I also love.

I’ll watch it. I won’t expect anything great (like the NPH 8-Bit Christmas offering) but hopefully it’ll be a fun Christmas watch.

Like all modern trailers, this one reveals too much of the film.

I won't go to see this one either. Looks rather boring & has your standard Xmas fare moments with some snark from his new wife tossed in.

Melinda Dillon is 83 and hasn't acted onscreen in 15 years. I hope she's doing okay and it was her choice not to participate, not that she was unable or unwell enough to.

Billingsley looks like someone who never in his life used any moisturizer and certainly nothing wiht SPF. You would think someone would've stressed how important it is, esp. for his skin.

The original was based on the writing of the incredible Jean Shepherd, who also narrated the original. This looks like a cash grab, but I will watch.

He's listed as 5'10" in a few articles...but in all the photos of him with Vince Vaughn (6'4"), it's obvious the height difference is more than 6".
