White House forced to delete tweet when Twitter called BS

Where’s the Ministry of Truth when we need it, to call out this bald-faced crap?

Instead, it’s left to the newly fascist Twitter to call this shit out.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 83November 2, 2022 10:06 PM

It's not bald faced crap and didn't need more explanation.

Twitter just added that in so Biden wouldn't get credit. It wouldn't have dared done that during the Trump presidency/

by Anonymousreply 1November 2, 2022 6:49 PM

That's fair. The quote seemed to indicate Biden had some past in the increase or getting more money to seniors. It's actually a cost-of-living increase that has been a part of Social Security for years.

[quote]“Seniors are getting the biggest increase in their Social Security checks in 10 years through President Biden’s leadership,”

by Anonymousreply 2November 2, 2022 6:50 PM

Only Trump gets to take credit for things he has no power over!

by Anonymousreply 3November 2, 2022 6:50 PM

Trump may have done it more frequently and more casually, but yes, both Dems and Reps misstate and mislead, and regularly. It’s called politics.

by Anonymousreply 4November 2, 2022 7:12 PM

R4 it’s like the gasoline rollercoaster and inflation/consumer price index. Whenever it spikes it’s because of Putin’s war, American oil companies who won’t manipulate the markets, or Trump’s fault and completely beyond Biden’s ability to effect an improvement. Whenever it trends downward, it is solely because of Biden and Dem policies, and completely within their control. Then it spikes up again, and we go round and round.

I strongly dislike Trump, and everything MAGA, and a lot of the Rep party. But it’s not because I like Biden or Dems. They’re just the best of two shitty options.

by Anonymousreply 5November 2, 2022 7:19 PM

Huge unforced error and right before the midterms! Who’s the current Tweet-monkey in the coms dept?! That jackass needs to be fired.

by Anonymousreply 6November 2, 2022 7:27 PM

Lol “incomplete” tweet has the same energy as the recent “un-vetted” letter from the Congressional Progressive Caucus.

by Anonymousreply 7November 2, 2022 7:30 PM

I miss the Democratic Party of Bill. I know he’s been me-too’d and justifiably so. But it seemed like the party and he were more intelligent strategic players. I wasn’t old enough to vote but I like what I know about him and the reforms and compromises accomplished.

If Obama coulda governed in that political climate I think he would have been an FDR.

by Anonymousreply 8November 2, 2022 7:31 PM

Newt Gingrich almost single handedly dragged partisanship in the US into the fucking toilet in the 90s. It’s only gotten worse in the last 25 years and there seems to be little hope in the near term.

There’s a special place in hell for that miserable fat piece of shit.

by Anonymousreply 9November 2, 2022 7:34 PM

The lowering of Medicare costs thanks to Biden's Inflation Reduction Act is coming on the heels of the higher-than-usual cost of living increase for Social Security, which is probably why the administration took credit for it. Administrations always take credit for things that aren't technically their doing, but in this case, it's somewhat deserved.

[quote]Another important change will be the decrease in Medicare Part B premiums, said Mary Johnson, Social Security and Medicare policy analyst at the Senior Citizens League.

[quote]“We have not seen that combination ever, and this may be the one and only time we ever see it,” Johnson said. “So I’m encouraging everybody to appreciate it.”

[quote]Many people expect their Medicare premiums to eat up a substantial portion of their COLA, but that won’t be the case this year, Johnson said.

by Anonymousreply 10November 2, 2022 7:36 PM

R10 fair point

by Anonymousreply 11November 2, 2022 7:38 PM

If everyone is going to blame Biden for inflation then he gets credit for raising benefits. You can't claim one without the other

by Anonymousreply 12November 2, 2022 7:38 PM

I should have mentioned at r10 that I think the tweet really WAS incomplete, and that's not just an excuse, because the original tweet didn't explain the whole thing: "lower Medicare thanks to Biden plus a higher SS increase means good news for seniors" should have been the tweet. They didn't include all the details.

by Anonymousreply 13November 2, 2022 7:38 PM

R10 R11 fine that you both favor that kind of ‘spending to reduce’ kind of fiscal policy. Spend taxpayer money to reduce an individuals expenses. But I’m not in favor of that. I don’t like debt spending and I’m growing increasingly alarmed by the national debt. Once it crossed q00% of GDP, economists are in near unanimity that you’re in a danger zone.

I hate it when Reps (and they do it a lot) pass tax reduction bills which mostly favor the 2% I equally hate it when Dems start throwing money around like a Babylonian prince like the bill will never come due.

by Anonymousreply 14November 2, 2022 7:42 PM

I'm Joe Biden and I approve of what's happening while I'm in office.

by Anonymousreply 15November 2, 2022 7:47 PM

*100%

Trump made them put his fucking shit name on checks which had nothing to do with him and the Republicans take credit for $ that goes to their states/districts which they vote AGAINST, but sure, Biden and the Dems are the one who are known for shouting they want credit from the rooftops.

It's the fucking opposite. Dems rarely shout their accomplishments, that's why Republicans can just step in and pretend they didn't vote against every fucking thing Dems have done, yet take credit for infrastructure in their towns.

by Anonymousreply 17November 2, 2022 7:54 PM

Did Twitter bother to mention that Musk and the Republicans want to eliminate Social Security and Medicare, and thus any future announcements of Social Security recipient increases will be non-existent if the Repukes get their way?

by Anonymousreply 18November 2, 2022 7:55 PM

R18 I didn’t know Musk and the Republicans were monolithic but as far as I know, OPs link was about a tweet the Biden admin DID send, not about a Tweet the Republicans didn’t send.

Also, Republicans have attacked entitlements since the original bills were passed in the 30s/40s and on. So I don’t think it would be news for them to state it again

by Anonymousreply 19November 2, 2022 7:59 PM

I’m a lifelong democrat R17. As far as I recall Democrats do just as good a job at shouting their accomplishments as Republicans. And their shouts are often just as dubious.

by Anonymousreply 20November 2, 2022 8:01 PM

R17 isn’t the point of the quote you included that Biden has no problem proclaiming his accomplishments when things move in his direction, then equally loudly disavowing them when they don’t?

To listen to you makes democrats sound like simpering idiots. I think higher of my party. Obama was the best despite the difficulties.

by Anonymousreply 21November 2, 2022 8:05 PM

@r19, "I didn’t know Musk and the Republicans were monolithic "

You do now, cupcake 😏

by Anonymousreply 22November 2, 2022 8:07 PM

Since when have democrats been wimps?!! That’s something the republicans have always tried to label us, don’t start to identify that way. This is the party of Hillary and Elizabeth, Bernie, AOC, and O B A M A

None of them are wimps

by Anonymousreply 23November 2, 2022 8:08 PM

R22 uh ok. That violates a whole host of laws on election (like kind) contributions, transparency, collusion, disclosure requirements… There are no fewer than 6 agencies that have oversight and are obligated to investigate the illegality.

So I guess we’ll see some indictments soon?

by Anonymousreply 24November 2, 2022 8:22 PM

Biden should take credit for the Social Security increase. He created the inflation that caused it.

by Anonymousreply 25November 2, 2022 8:23 PM

@r24 😂 Oh we all know how Repugs follow the rules

by Anonymousreply 26November 2, 2022 8:30 PM

^ I wasn’t talking about the law breaker, I was talking about the people charged with stopping them.

I don’t expect criminals to voluntarily follow laws they don’t like

by Anonymousreply 27November 2, 2022 8:34 PM

Yea, those $1200.00 "free money" checks Trump gave out in 2020 (before Biden was even elected) had nothing to do with inflation, right R25?

by Anonymousreply 28November 2, 2022 8:37 PM

Dems championed that and wanted $2400, which became $1800 then finally the repubs agreed on $1200. It was a Covid thing.

Christ, are the trolls on here?

by Anonymousreply 29November 2, 2022 8:40 PM

The checks were almost exclusively a Dem thing!!! The republicans were getting (somewhat) crucified for Covid and the response so they gave in.

by Anonymousreply 30November 2, 2022 8:41 PM

OP probably thinks Biden is responsible for gas prices and inflation

by Anonymousreply 31November 2, 2022 8:42 PM

No we already established that it’s Putin, Republican policies, oil companies and Saudi Arabia

Oh yeah and Trump. We can still get mileage outta that right?

by Anonymousreply 32November 2, 2022 8:44 PM

My post had absolutely nothing to do with gas prices.

by Anonymousreply 33November 2, 2022 8:45 PM

"I’m a lifelong democrat."

If i had a god damned dime for every time some fucking troll/drunken Russian bot farmer on here proclaimed that shit, I'd be a fucking millionaire.

by Anonymousreply 34November 2, 2022 8:47 PM

[quote] I strongly dislike Trump, and everything MAGA, and a lot of the Rep party. But it’s not because I like Biden or Dems. They’re just the best of two shitty options.

Wow, one party supports gays and the middle class. The other is working hard to abolish gay rights and give the wealthy huge tax breaks.

Hmmm...which one should I choose?

by Anonymousreply 35November 2, 2022 8:49 PM

^ that’s me asshole and I’m neither a Russian or a troll.

I’m also not a mindless idiot

by Anonymousreply 36November 2, 2022 8:49 PM

[quote] Biden should take credit for the Social Security increase. He created the inflation that caused it.

Who knew that Biden had so much power to cause inflation all over the world!

by Anonymousreply 37November 2, 2022 8:50 PM

"I didn’t know Musk and the Republicans were monolithic..."

There's a whole bunch of Republican candidates running for Congress and governors who think they're God and want to rule as God "says," most notably Doug Mastriano here in PA, so your excuse is quite lame.

And Musk thinks he God. Just ask him.

by Anonymousreply 38November 2, 2022 8:52 PM

r37 The US is the largest economy in the world, the dollar is the world's reserve currency.

by Anonymousreply 39November 2, 2022 8:52 PM

R35, I don’t broadly accept one of your assertions, but I chose the Dems. I just hate the current Dem party. I loathe socialism and anything that resembles it. I also hate rampant uncontrolled gov’t spending. It is the fiscal equivalent of climate change. Let it rage unchecked because fuck it, only our grandchildren will suffer.

by Anonymousreply 40November 2, 2022 8:53 PM

R38 that was a strange and wild post. I feel like I’m high or tripping

by Anonymousreply 41November 2, 2022 8:54 PM

^ It was spot on, although you still might be high, drunk or tripping 🤪

by Anonymousreply 42November 2, 2022 8:57 PM

[quote] I strongly dislike Trump, and everything MAGA,

Lol. No. No you don’t.

by Anonymousreply 43November 2, 2022 8:57 PM

[quote] The US is the largest economy in the world, the dollar is the world's reserve currency.

So?

The dollar isn't causing inflation. Slow supply systems because of COVID (China, for example, keeps closing down cities) with high demand is causing inflation all over the world.

The fed is using the only tool it has--raising interest rates to slow down the economy.

The US is actually doing much better with regards to inflation than Europe.

by Anonymousreply 44November 2, 2022 8:58 PM

R43 yes I do, it’s really that simple.

I wouldn’t vote for Trump or a MAGA if AOC were the candidate, and I really wish she’d get hit by a car. I’d still support her and send a little money.

by Anonymousreply 45November 2, 2022 8:59 PM

Do you hate social security, Medicare, and the VA health system? All examples of socialism and all among the most loved federal programs. They exist because capitalism failed miserably in those three rhelms.

If you hate rampant, uncontrolled govt spending, it's the GOP that always busts budgets and creates the highest deficits. Biden's policies have lowered the deficit by a record $1.03 trillion.

by Anonymousreply 51November 2, 2022 9:04 PM

R51, nonsense.

Inflation hit the world at the same time. The dollar is actually very very strong compared to the other world currencies right now,

by Anonymousreply 52November 2, 2022 9:09 PM

by Anonymousreply 53November 2, 2022 9:17 PM

by Anonymousreply 56November 2, 2022 9:23 PM

I don't think R54 could define socialism even if it fucked him in the ass.

by Anonymousreply 57November 2, 2022 9:25 PM

True socialism does not work, history and numerous failed attempts prove that. That doesn’t mean there aren’t ideals which we can pursue, in spirit, to improve on raw capitalism

by Anonymousreply 58November 2, 2022 9:25 PM

This is Biden's twitter girl. She's 24 years old, so there's a good chance she genuinely didn't know how social security works when she tweeted that out this morning. Not exactly the experts we were promised.

r61 I'm guess she's trans based on her build but the article doesn't say.

by Anonymousreply 63November 2, 2022 9:32 PM

R46 R49 why do you wander into conversations you have no capacity or ability to entertain. It takes longer for everyone else to stop to correct your absurdities than is possible in this format. You seem passionate and well intentioned but you need to go to college, study comparative political systems, American government, Contemporary American Politics, Economics, International Finance… or just read voraciously on your own. Like Will Hunting, you can do it.

A strong safetynet is what "democratic socialism" is all about. Bernie and AOC are democratic socialists.

by Anonymousreply 68November 2, 2022 9:43 PM

[quote]neither do the others he mentioned [[R54]]. A safety net for the elderly is not socialism, even if socialist systems tried (mostly unsuccessfully) to offer them.

The "socialist" European states all have much stronger safetynets for their elderly than the US

[quote] [R49] college isn’t appropriate for all. It’s not appropriate for 20-30% who are already going, to say nothing of universal post secondary. It’s preposterous

AOC is not demanding everyone go to college, for God's sake. How dense can you be?

No matter what job training program is suitable for you, whether it be college or apprenticeship, she wants to make it easily accessible and affordable. Even Biden loan forgiveness plan forgives the loans of people who went for job training.

by Anonymousreply 70November 2, 2022 9:45 PM

[quote]True socialism does not work, history and numerous failed attempts prove that. That doesn’t mean there aren’t ideals which we can pursue, in spirit, to improve on raw capitalism

True capitalism doesn't work either--US is a perfect example of how it has become crony capitalism. The second the country added a tariff, the concept of "free market" died.

by Anonymousreply 71November 2, 2022 9:47 PM

[quote]the VA has nothing to do with socialism. It is an employee/retiree healthcare program

How convenient that the taxpayer is the "employer," huh?

by Anonymousreply 72November 2, 2022 9:48 PM

[quote]the VA has nothing to do with socialism. It is an employee/retiree healthcare program

It is the very definition of capitalism. The people own the means of production and provide healthcare for vets. The hospitals are built with tax money and the doctors are employed by the government.

by Anonymousreply 73November 2, 2022 9:49 PM

Everyone who is apparently against socialism always claims that America;'s socialist programs are somehow not socialism.
