To me, it sounds like he came in late to the audition process. Casting for Nick was already closed, but Charlie's casting call was still open. I think he auditioned as a means to get his name and face in front of the casting agents, hoping that, once they saw him act, they would offer him a role in the show (maybe Nick, maybe Ben, maybe Harry)--and that's exactly what happened.

Kit said once they saw him, they immediately threw his name into consideration for Nick pretty quickly. I think auditioning for Charlie was strictly strategic to get his foot in the door, so to speak, not because he realistically thought hw was suited to play Charlie.

I think he treats his fans pretty well and both he and Joe are fantastic, professional, eloquent role models with huge reach. And all at 18 and 19 years of age.

I think, of the two, Kit had the meatier material to work with in season 1, so I think he'll probably win it. That coming out scene with Olivia Coleman was pretty amazing. Pretty hard to top that.

Joe will have more emotional material to work with in the coming seasons. However, I sort of wish Joe would end up winning it, just to top off his Cinderella story.
