Why are iPhones better than Androids?

I have had it with my shitty android with its slow data, accelerated battery life, attack ads. Next month I'm ready to go over to the dark side and go apple. IPhone users what are the pros? Is it difficult to transition from Android? It's my first time be gentle.

by Anonymousreply 151December 3, 2024 7:44 PM

They're not... Fight me šŸ˜

by Anonymousreply 1October 29, 2022 12:41 AM

They are, because phones shouldn't have to give you a second thought.

by Anonymousreply 2October 29, 2022 12:44 AM

I don't want to fight R1. I honestly just want a better phone lol.

by Anonymousreply 3October 29, 2022 12:45 AM

Prestige

by Anonymousreply 4October 29, 2022 12:47 AM

I've had both. They both have pros and cons. I went with Samsung because it's cheaper and it does everything I need and I don't care about "prestige"

Damn, I forget to pick up my BMW from the shop

by Anonymousreply 5October 29, 2022 12:48 AM

So you're saying iPhones do 10 times more work R3? My android takes 5 minutes to even turn on.( I'm slightly exaggerating but 100%frustrated)

by Anonymousreply 6October 29, 2022 12:48 AM

Whoops I meant R2. I didn't realize I responded to myself.

by Anonymousreply 7October 29, 2022 12:50 AM

The iPhone takes better pictures than Android correct? That's what I've heard some say.

by Anonymousreply 8October 29, 2022 12:54 AM

R8, that is not true. It depends what phone you have. Samsung can take great pictures.

by Anonymousreply 9October 29, 2022 12:59 AM

Get an iPhone, but hold on to it. Don't try to "upgrade" every time a new one comes out. I have an old iPhone and it's been trouble-free.

by Anonymousreply 10October 29, 2022 2:05 AM

Who cares about the nuances of a phone, like maybe a camera if you're so inclined, but beyond that, by an iphone and your covered for everything without a thought...

by Anonymousreply 11October 29, 2022 2:06 AM

iPhone batteries do not last as long as Samsung batteries ( Iā€™ve got one of each.)

by Anonymousreply 12October 29, 2022 2:30 AM

I have both a Pixel and an iPhone. I like how well-integrated with Google services the Pixel is, but even though it's a newer model than my iPhone, it's nowhere near as snappy and responsive.

I do love the fingerprint sensor built into the screen, although it actually working is very hit or miss.

by Anonymousreply 13October 29, 2022 3:01 AM

I have a S6 I bought on eBay for 150 bucks used 3 years ago and it still works great. It does take good pictures and Accubattery says it still has 77% battery capacity. I do have to charge it once a day or so.

by Anonymousreply 14October 29, 2022 3:23 AM

R14 I have an Iphone 6s and the only reason I'm upgrading is I've heard the 6s is not going to be supported in a couple years. Seems like most geek types prefer Android but I'm going to stick with what I know.

by Anonymousreply 15October 29, 2022 3:33 AM

My brother says that if you know what youā€™re doing electronics wise theyā€™re better. I hate figuring out electronics so I like the iPhone.

by Anonymousreply 16October 29, 2022 3:39 AM

R15, why not keep the 6S iPhone for at least one more year, then? That's the phone I have and it's a good phone.

by Anonymousreply 17October 29, 2022 3:41 AM

iPhone users, do you use Google apps or Apple apps mostly?

Google works better with Android, no?

by Anonymousreply 18October 29, 2022 3:46 AM

R18, what kind of apps are you talking about?

by Anonymousreply 19October 29, 2022 4:08 AM

I have an iPhone because I started purchasing iPods during the 2000s. I eventually switched all my devices to Apple. I like that they sync. And they suit my needs.

by Anonymousreply 20October 29, 2022 4:24 AM

I don't like phones without headphone jacks. it's such a scam, just to make us shell out more money for those earpods that are expensive and you will definitely lose over and over again.

by Anonymousreply 21October 29, 2022 4:40 AM

I think the 6s ends support next year. Anyway, buy a 2ndhand iPhone phone on Swappa. No need to get the latest and greatest.

by Anonymousreply 22October 29, 2022 4:41 AM

What Android phone do you have currently? Frankly it sounds like a complete piece of shit.

I have a mid range Samsung A31, it cost me about $450 about 3 years ago, you can pick them up for around US $250-270 now. Battery lasts 2 days except under extremely heavy use, only ever get slowness when I have marginal coverage, never had attack ads. And only time I ever have to turn it on/off is when I restart it, which I do once every couple of months whether I need to or not, takes 2-3 minutes

Oh and its got a headphone jack too

by Anonymousreply 23October 29, 2022 4:42 AM

The syncing on the Apple devices is not always that great. I know it sounds silly, but my Safari bookmarks are really important and useful to me. I had a hard time with the syncing when I edited my bookmarks. Instead of the syncing with the newest "edit," it would revert to an older edit. Really frustrating.

by Anonymousreply 24October 29, 2022 4:44 AM

I was rocking a fucking Blackberry until last year (yes, they were actually still making them), believe it or not. I still miss having actual buttons to press. The last few Blackberry phones that were manufactured had Android software and were dual touchscreen/physical keyboard, but I found the Android software to be very dodgy and glitchy. My phone would often freeze, power cycle for no reason, and the battery life was terrible. I briefly had a random Samsung phone at one point (also Android, obviously) and found it had similar problems.

I had owned a couple of iPhones over the years between having different Blackberrys (I had an iPhone 4 and later a 5S at one point). I finally relented and bought an iPhone 12 last year after I broke my Blackberry Key2. I have to admit, I have NEVER had any of the issues with iOS that I've had with Android-based devices. My iPhones have always been reliable, easy to use, and served me well.

I've also owned the same MacBook Pro since 2012, which has been a real workhorse and gotten me through college and grad school (and I am still using it as I type this). The only issue I had was that I noticed it getting painfully sluggish a couple of years ago, and found that the hard drive had started to fail (since it's an older model, it had an HDD, which has a limited lifespan). I went to Best Buy, bought an SSD, cloned it from my original hard drive, swapped them out, and the computer now runs like it's brand new. I've owned it now for a little over a decade.

In terms of user friendliness and reliability, I do believe Apple products are generally superiorā€”and this is not coming from an Apple fanboy.

by Anonymousreply 25October 29, 2022 4:58 AM

R25, I liked those Blackberries with the actual keys on the keyboard. I have pretty slim fingers, but I can't type on my iPhone very well.

Good for you for making those older Macs continue working. There was a guy on YouTube who preferred the older Mac laptops. I forgot why, though.

by Anonymousreply 26October 29, 2022 5:03 AM

R26 I have "normal" sized fingers and I have trouble typing on my iPhone at times as well.

As far as the MacBooks go, I've read that the generation of MacBook Pro that I have was one of the last of the "greats", according to some diehard Apple fans. They claim they were superior machines and that the subsequent models that have come since are lackluster, but I'm not exactly sure what the basis for that claim is eitherā€”I wouldn't know because I've not owned a newer model lol

by Anonymousreply 27October 29, 2022 5:07 AM

Used to have iPhones but then I got tired of their batteries draining so quickly and Appleā€™s planned obsolescence. I have a Samsung now.

by Anonymousreply 28October 29, 2022 5:09 AM

OP - Iā€™ve only used apple products personally and professionally since 1990 so I assume that qualifies me as a ā€œfanboyā€ or a fangeezer - whatever.

For people that are not very tech-inclined Apple stuff is simply easier to use because the design of the interface is more straightforward and intuitive (also usually more aesthetic as well but thatā€™s gravy).

Case in point - my 85 year old mother can deal with her email and web browsing on her iMac - researching various stocks she likes to invest in and follow; read e-books, play Candy Crush and watch the Tennis Channel on her iPad; and text and make calls on her iPhone - all with not having a terribly clear idea of the nitty gritty - she still gets RAM and hard-drive ā€œmemoryā€ confused and also refuses to look at her email on the phone or the iPad - thatā€™s what the computer is for. She is the one dealing with the online research, booking and the printing out of boarding and luggage passes for her widows-group cruise next month, and she rarely needs my help with any of this.

Apple products and software tend to ā€œjust workā€ as the old ad slogan went. For most of what I do on a computer - photos, email, web browsing, creating documents and simple spread-sheets I am 100% apple software guy - I use Mail and Pages / Numbers not Google or Microsoft products and Iā€™ve had no major problems ā€” I will say Safari has become problematic so I now more often use Firefox or Chrome, and I prefer less bloat-heavy programs for other tasks - so I image edit in Acorn, not Photoshop. That Apple-Sphere isnā€™t perfect but things intergrate well and for most of what you want to accomplish the functionality is pretty intuitive and transparent - not buried in a Microsoft sub-sub-sub-menu.

My laptop and desktop computers last around 8 years before I want something faster, and these days iPhones will easily last 4 or 5 before you start to feel the need to upgrade.

by Anonymousreply 29October 29, 2022 5:43 AM

Apple isn't perfect in the privacy department but they don't farm out all your data like Android does

by Anonymousreply 30October 29, 2022 5:47 AM

I only use my phone for calls and basic internet stuff. I use my laptop for emails.

I do not like thumbprint or face recognition shit. Those features can be disabled, right?

I ain't gonna give companies my fingerprint or mug shot.

by Anonymousreply 31October 29, 2022 5:49 AM

They're definitely not, OP.

I'll only admit that it takes a while to configure Android the way you want it... but at least you CAN.

by Anonymousreply 32October 29, 2022 5:56 AM

R31, your fingerprint info never leaves the phone.

by Anonymousreply 33October 29, 2022 5:56 AM

How long have Google Pixel phones been around? Can't see what's great about them and the colors are hideous - pale green and a weird blue - or pink and coral.

WTF? Where's Steve Jobs when you need him - he would never have let those colors fly.

by Anonymousreply 34October 29, 2022 6:04 AM

R34, Pixel phones are cheap.

by Anonymousreply 35October 29, 2022 6:17 AM

iPhones, Androids. So much fuss over phones. What a PITA.

I can remember when Ma Bell was broken up some decades ago. Some of you not even born yet. Well that fucking break-up made my phone bill overnight go up from $9 a month to $18 a month. Doubled. It DOUBLED the phone bill. What exactly was the point of the break-up? Some monopolies are good for the consumer.

by Anonymousreply 36October 29, 2022 6:24 AM

R36 Completely agree. We need Ma Bell back and now. If you want to save money dial 1010321

by Anonymousreply 37October 29, 2022 6:25 AM

You canā€™t download stuff on iPhone

by Anonymousreply 38October 29, 2022 6:28 AM

R38 That's fucking bullshit and you know. Your mom is calling you up from the basement for dinner. Enjoy your spaghetti-o's.

by Anonymousreply 39October 29, 2022 6:29 AM

I have a Galaxy Fold 3. It's excellent, but I'm going to get something completely different next time for novelty: an unlocked OnePlus or an Honor.

I had an iPhone Pro Max 11 a while back, but it got really boring, and there's nothing novel about the 14.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 40October 29, 2022 6:32 AM

I want this Honor but I can't find an unlocked one yet.

by Anonymousreply 41October 29, 2022 6:38 AM

I still miss my Windows 10 phone. It seemed to work better than Android at its most basic feature - as a phone. It felt solid and was pleasant to speak on, unlike Android which I always fear brushing the phone against my cheek will set off some uncontrollable feature.

Samsung contains all kinds of fancy bloatware like DEX - full Android desktop. Who the hell actually uses it though?

My hope is that Surface Phone 3 will be better, and will finally nail a cross between form, function, and price. Not holding my breath.

by Anonymousreply 42October 29, 2022 7:01 AM

You haves used both. iPhone is better without a doubt.

by Anonymousreply 43October 29, 2022 7:15 AM

the last thing you want to buy is a Chinese phone. Like Huawei and Honor. Leveno as well, for laptops. stay the fuck away.

by Anonymousreply 44October 29, 2022 7:31 AM

I agree R21. That's what's making me hesitant to buy an iPhone because I like listen to music with my earbuds in whenever I want. It seems like In order to listen to music with iPhone is more costly and time consuming.

by Anonymousreply 45October 29, 2022 8:17 AM

I love my Lenovo laptop, r44, and I had a Google Nexus 6P way back when, made by Huawei, and it was a great phone. I had zero problems with it.

by Anonymousreply 46October 29, 2022 10:12 AM

I just googled the average price of airpods and they cost about the same as my utility bill šŸ˜. I think I'm gonna stick with android until I get that promotion I'm working overtime for. I love simply putting my earbuds in my Samsung and walking around listening to music or watching YouTube.

by Anonymousreply 47October 29, 2022 2:17 PM

I just find iOS a lot more intuitive than Android.

Also, you don't have to get the most expensive iPhone model, they don't just sell the latest one.

by Anonymousreply 48October 29, 2022 2:23 PM

Iā€™ve had iPhones from the beginning. Yes, they just work. Very very rarely has anything weird happened. Plus, theyre very intuitive. Even my 80 year old mom figured it out

by Anonymousreply 49October 29, 2022 2:23 PM

iOS is a closed proprietary operating system, so Apple can ensure that the hardware and software actually works and does what it claims to do. Android is standards-based, which makes it more susceptible to incompatibilities, security issues, and failure.

[quote]Apple isn't perfect in the privacy department

Well, Tim Cook has successfully cost Meta about half of its market cap by putting privacy back in the hands of users, so I can't agree.

by Anonymousreply 50October 29, 2022 4:00 PM

Apple is better. My 12 pro is the best one so far.

by Anonymousreply 51October 29, 2022 4:04 PM

Apple is indeed better esp if u use an Apple computer and iPhone

by Anonymousreply 52October 29, 2022 4:11 PM

Iphones just work. They are a closed-loop ecosystem. Apple does not have to make a phone OS that run on multiple versions of hardware and memory. Apple also makes its own silicone. They are so good at it that they took the phone chip and put it in the MacBooks. The m1 and m2 were born out of Iphone. If you can use an Ipad you can use an Iphone. There is learning curve coming from android. I could not overcome it and went back to android.. No app drawer just drove my OCD crazy. I now use a pixel 7 pro and love it. The camera is light years beyond.

by Anonymousreply 53October 29, 2022 4:18 PM

Thereā€™s a reason Apple is the biggest company on the planet. They sell what people want.

by Anonymousreply 54October 29, 2022 4:20 PM

I can still use my headphones with my brand new iPhone 13, I just bought a little $8.00 adaptor and they plug right into the charging port.

by Anonymousreply 55October 29, 2022 4:22 PM

Who on earth cares?

by Anonymousreply 56October 29, 2022 4:23 PM

What R53 said.

[quote]I don't like phones without headphone jacks. it's such a scam, just to make us shell out more money for those earpods that are expensive and you will definitely lose over and over again.

Yeah I won't get airpods. I buy the $9 adapter and use cheap ear buds.

iPhone is much easier to use and if you have a Mac it syncs music much more easily.

by Anonymousreply 57October 29, 2022 4:46 PM

[quote]iOS is a closed proprietary operating system, so Apple can ensure that the hardware and software actually works and does what it claims to do.

You say that like it's a good thing. It's a closed proprietary system. It's a mono-culture, and mono-cultures are bad in both nature and tech. It's "one size fits all". Innovation is stifled because there's just ONE company involved. There are few options.

I much prefer OPEN systems, that use STANDARDS instead of proprietary bullshit like the "lightning cable", which is HORRIBLE (and super-slow compared to the current USB-C standard). I like the competition between companies to make good and better phones, to fill niche requirements and desires, etc.

Don't like the UI on Android? You can change it. You can choose from dozens, MANY dozens of different app launchers, different keyboards, different skins and themes. I always hated how the iPhone forced your icons to jam up to the top, moving them for you, not allowing any gaps. HATED IT. With Android I can put my icons wherever I want.

And Android has more and better features, and gets them YEARS before they ever come to iPhone.

And as for "intuitiveness", that's all bullshit. There is nothing more inherently intuitive about iPhones (or Macs) than any other phone or computer. I used an iPhone 3gs and 4 for years. Then went to Windows Phone for a while (still my favorite OS, but nobody wrote apps for it so it died), and then to Android. So I've used all of them. ALL involve a learning curve. And when a friend recently handed me their iPhone in order to look up something, I ended up just handing it back because I couldn't figure out what the fuck to do in the short time I had. When you're used to Android and Windows Phone, there's literally nothing "intuitive" about the iPhone.

If there's ANY drawback to Android, it's that unlike iPhone, one Android User handing their phone to another Android User might still be confusing to use, because they could be using an entirely different launcher, keyboard, etc. iPhones are all the same. Boring. Androids can be VERY diverse. And while conformists would consider that a drawback, I consider it a sign of just how much better Androids are. They can be tailored to your specific wants and needs. And I don't really want anyone else futzing with my phone.

by Anonymousreply 58October 29, 2022 4:50 PM

It amazes me that people are constantly upgrading their $1k IPhones - when the only significant improvements are photo quality. Why is everyone a professional photographer now? Why do I need super tech quality pictures? Every time a new one comes out I read the reviews to see if it could be worth it. And every time the main change is ā€œit takes better picturesā€ - which very few people need to do. A bizarre waste of money for the average person - who is also living paycheck to paycheck.

by Anonymousreply 59October 29, 2022 5:17 PM

The less expensive Pixel Android phones take better pictures and have better editing features than iPhones anyway.

by Anonymousreply 60October 29, 2022 5:19 PM

Samsung phones are made in vietnam, Apple is made in China

I would pick Samsung. although I have ipod touch but they don't even make that anymore.

I agree that samsung has their own shit that you can't even delete on the phone. bixby or something. annoying.

by Anonymousreply 61October 29, 2022 5:33 PM

The excessive ads are coming from your provider, not your phone OP. And most providers have settings that allow you to opt of all the ads. I use Straight Talk as my provider (best service I've ever had). I've never gotten one ad on my Samsuing phone.

by Anonymousreply 62October 29, 2022 5:34 PM

Android users sure are an angry bunch.

by Anonymousreply 63October 29, 2022 5:41 PM

R35 They aren't even close to being cheap

by Anonymousreply 64October 29, 2022 5:44 PM

Seems like you have a problem with your specific Android phone and not Android phones in general. Just because you have a shitty phone doesn't mean all Android phones are shitty. You know that there are thousands of different Android phone models, unlike iPhone?

by Anonymousreply 65October 29, 2022 5:47 PM

R8 No, that would be Pixel.

by Anonymousreply 66October 29, 2022 5:47 PM

I don't get you, R58. You quoted me, said I was wrong, and then spent 5 paragraphs explaining why I'm right when I simply said that iOS is proprietary, avoiding all of the issues you griped about. I like competition, too, and that's why I'm happy that there are dozens of phones to choose from and you don't have to buy an iPhone (unless you want your phone to work, that is). I'm also happy that Apple doesn't just roll over and give the government (ours or any) access to my data without a warrant. In fact, I'd like Apple to build in an emergency-brick-my-phone feature such that if I'm ever apprehended (by the police or anyone) and they demand I unlock my phone, I just input the brick code and that's it, there's nothing for them to retrieve and the phone is worthless. I know, I have a bugaboo about privacy.

What I don't like about Apple is the way that they change the cables and connectors making my old peripherals obsolete. Not that everyone else doesn't do the same thing, but if I'm a dedicated iPhone user, it would be nice to use the same cables, docks and connectors from generation to generation. But at the end of the day, if tossing $100 worth of cables in the trash every 3 to 4 years is the price to keep my data away from prying eyes, it's a fair trade.

by Anonymousreply 67October 29, 2022 6:03 PM

Apple is cooler.

by Anonymousreply 68October 29, 2022 6:07 PM

[quote]What I don't like about Apple is the way that they change the cables and connectors making my old peripherals obsolete. Not that everyone else doesn't do the same thing, but if I'm a dedicated iPhone user, it would be nice to use the same cables, docks and connectors from generation to generation.

They've finally had to capitulate on USB-C, so that shouldn't be an issue much longer.

by Anonymousreply 69October 29, 2022 6:10 PM

R34 U think Pixels are waaaay prettier than iPhones. And what's great about them? Well, they take the best photos of all the phones on the market

by Anonymousreply 70October 29, 2022 6:19 PM

what happens if you lose the charging case to your ear pods?

by Anonymousreply 71October 29, 2022 6:23 PM

Why are BMWs better than Kias? They just are, get over it. Why is staying at the Four Seasons better than the Hilton? It just is.

by Anonymousreply 72October 29, 2022 6:27 PM

R72 What does that has to do with the subject?

by Anonymousreply 73October 29, 2022 6:35 PM

^Right R72 is on a whole other planet and needs to fuck offšŸ–•šŸ–•

by Anonymousreply 74October 29, 2022 6:39 PM

How much food is this thing of an iPhone?

by Anonymousreply 75October 29, 2022 6:42 PM

[QUOTE] what happens if you lose the charging case to your ear pods?

You get to buy a whole new pair. Thatā€™s why Apple products arenā€™t for poor and careless people. You can be rich and careless, or you can be poor and careful. But you canā€™t be both poor and careless. Thatā€™s what Android is for.

by Anonymousreply 76October 29, 2022 6:43 PM

You can use other Bluetooth (wireless) ear phones on an iPhone. You don't have to use the Airpods. My friend uses Sony wireless ear phones (w/iPhone).

by Anonymousreply 77October 29, 2022 6:50 PM

"Apple is cooler. "

My Range Rover is way cooler than your Apple, peasant šŸ˜

by Anonymousreply 78October 29, 2022 6:50 PM

Geez, not one of you losers has mentioned Apple carplay. Do all of you take the bus? šŸ™„

by Anonymousreply 79October 29, 2022 6:53 PM

Because iPhones are much easier to use and navigate through, OP.

Theyā€™re seamless. One doesnā€™t have to do anything other than click on a. App here and then or use safari or whatever search engine one has thatā€™s compatible with iPhones.

iPhones also have better security than Androids.

Either way, both phones work pretty well, and it just depends what youā€™re into.

by Anonymousreply 80October 29, 2022 6:56 PM

[Quote] And Android has more and better features, and gets them YEARS before they ever come to iPhone.

Yeah, but the features are stupid and not really necessary. No, I donā€™t have to have the weather displayed on my Home Screen, for example

by Anonymousreply 81October 29, 2022 7:25 PM

I've only owned an Iphone since 2009, switching every 3-5 years, currently 11ProMax. They're just so much more intuitive.

Batteries do decline after a year or so, nothing significant and even an aged 11's battery life is vast improved over my old 6 when it was new. $99 to get them replaced and add another 1-2 years.

No need to update every year and most who do never pay for them outright, they are basically installment payments that never end (Apple makes it easy to upgrade with incentives). Only people who seem to care are those who judge you depending on if you can make a $60/mo payment for a new phone for the rest of your life, so not worth it.

Was curious about Android once, but our know it all smart ass IT guy who's an Android fan can't shut up about them. Nothing he says impresses me about them.

by Anonymousreply 82October 29, 2022 7:26 PM

[Quote] Geez, not one of you losers has mentioned Apple carplay. Do all of you take the bus?

I LOVE CarPlay. Sadly I have an older car so only get to use CarPlay when I rent a car

by Anonymousreply 83October 29, 2022 7:26 PM

Iphone users are just way too full of unearned smug. It's like a cult.

by Anonymousreply 84October 30, 2022 3:37 AM

I just got a new car. It supports both Apple and Android car play.

by Anonymousreply 85October 30, 2022 4:22 AM

Actually Android users tend to be the smug blowhards who go on ad nauseum about why they're superior.

by Anonymousreply 86October 30, 2022 4:34 AM

Android users ARE superior to all you little Apple Annies šŸ˜

by Anonymousreply 87October 30, 2022 4:55 AM

As noted above, there are many flavors of android and if you get a cheap one, its gonna be slow. In tems of performance, if you spend the same amount of money on a samsung flagshipt as you would have to on an iphone then you get roughly equivelent hardware.

Apple doesnt really put out budget phones with one exception, the SE series. They usually deck out with all the chutzpa of a recent model flagship sans the phablet monster screen. You would think the "it just works" crowd would appreciate a small form factor. But them bitches just gotta blow it up. So you will never see an SE with a huge screen. Apple would be eating itself.

by Anonymousreply 88October 30, 2022 5:01 AM

Have a Samsung Galaxy S20 personal, and an iPhone 12 for work. The Samsung is far better. Longer battery life, lighter, better camera. Iā€™d never get an iPhone again. Having said that, I prefer iPads over Galaxy Tab. Have both, and hate the way the Galaxy feels, and donā€™t like the aspect ratio. It does, however, have way better speakers and better screen. Longer battery life too. I just donā€™t like holding it.

by Anonymousreply 89October 30, 2022 5:16 AM

Who doesnā€™t want a folding phone ?

It doesn't matter whether you have an iPhone or an Android phone. Most good apps are available for both. I guess Apple takes privacy more seriously, though, so if that is important get an iPhone.

by Anonymousreply 91October 30, 2022 5:27 AM

iPhones are better. They are designed to be more secure and user friendly. You get what you pay for, and if you pay attention youā€™ll quickly realize that most of the people who say that ā€œApple is crapā€ are just cheapskates who are too cheap to buy an iPhone.

by Anonymousreply 92October 30, 2022 5:30 AM

I donā€™t get the whole ā€œIphone users just like the prestigeā€ crap.

Everyone in NYC has an iPhone. It offers no prestige to the user here

by Anonymousreply 93October 30, 2022 5:33 AM

I prefer samsung because they are not made in china.

I prefer not to buy anything made in china, if possible. I know it's superhard but I hate China.

by Anonymousreply 94October 30, 2022 5:35 AM

R93 Please see my post.

by Anonymousreply 95October 30, 2022 6:00 AM

R94 thats part of the reason I bought a Samsung phone, mine is made in Vietnam.

Beware if you are buying a tablet though, Samsung tablets are all still made in China bar the top end ones. Partner bought a Samsung Tab A8, was disappointed to find it was made in China when I collected it. Possibly it was old stock though, and they will be made elsewhere going forward

by Anonymousreply 96October 30, 2022 12:48 PM

With Androids I just, like, canā€™t.

by Anonymousreply 97October 30, 2022 12:52 PM

Apple operating systems are unwieldy.

by Anonymousreply 98October 30, 2022 1:22 PM

R92 Except there's a whole bunch of Android phones that are more expensive than iPhones. Nice try though

by Anonymousreply 99October 30, 2022 1:27 PM

R99 Youā€™re right, but the people complaining about Apple arenā€™t buying those, and you know it.

by Anonymousreply 100October 30, 2022 6:51 PM

R13, if you get an iPhone, it tells you to replace the battery once it drops below 80% capacity. It is then officially "dead".

R14, Apple has already dropped support for the 6s and 7. No more updates.

by Anonymousreply 101October 31, 2022 9:52 AM

The problem with Androids is you have to rely on the manufacturer to update. Google only updates pixels and guarantees for three years of updates. When you buy an apple, it is updated by apple so most modern iPhones get updated.

by Anonymousreply 102November 1, 2022 12:51 AM

I have the Samsung Flip 3. It's so fetch.

by Anonymousreply 103November 1, 2022 12:55 AM

R102 - my Samsung gets regular updates.

Another thing I like about my Samsung is I can stream from my phone directly to other devices like my TV. I donā€™t require an Apple TV for that.

by Anonymousreply 104November 1, 2022 1:02 AM

iPhones aren't better... They're only better at marketing the same shit with a different number

by Anonymousreply 105November 1, 2022 1:10 AM

[quote]Everyone in NYC has an iPhone. It offers no prestige to the user here

Yeah right. Try telling that to someone in a group chat with a green bubble.

by Anonymousreply 106November 1, 2022 4:15 AM

iPhones are less popular outside US

by Anonymousreply 107November 5, 2022 6:16 AM

Bottom line: iPhones are better if you don't want to think about the device, customize the device, etc. In my experience, they last longer (you will need to replace the battery at some point), and they have better tech advice (there are millions of "Apple fanboys" online ready to help with any problem).

by Anonymousreply 108November 5, 2022 6:38 AM

Because Androids are poor people phones. While it is true that there are some high end Androids, the majority of Android users are cheap asses who wouldnā€™t buy those.

by Anonymousreply 109November 6, 2022 5:47 AM

R109 Or smartasses who wouldn't spend $1000+ on a piece of plastic made in China, just because it has a logo of an apple on it and all the other people have it. When they can buy way better phone, cheaper.

by Anonymousreply 110November 6, 2022 11:33 AM

They're not.

by Anonymousreply 111November 6, 2022 12:45 PM

People need to remember how the iPhone was birthed. The Ipad became the defacto tablet. Everyone wanted an Ipad and Apple thought "what if we made an Ipad that could make phone calls? They already had the iPod which was moved from a click-wheel device to a mini iPad version. From there they worked to incorporate the phone module and chips and boom the iPhone was born. Apple fans went nuts and had to have them and thus the Iphone craze was born. Google took a different apporach and developed a phone OS called android, similar to what Microsoft did. Rather than create the whole close loop hardware system ala Mac, they created the OS based on open source so it could work on a host of different hardware platforms. There is prestige in having the latest Iphone. "Oh you still have the 12?" is akin to "you must be poor,"

by Anonymousreply 112November 6, 2022 2:45 PM

[quote]People need to remember how the iPhone was birthed. The Ipad became the defacto tablet. Everyone wanted an Ipad and Apple thought "what if we made an Ipad that could make phone calls?

Neat development cycle, given that the original iPad came out in 2010, a full three years after the first iPhone.

by Anonymousreply 113November 6, 2022 2:47 PM

Apple is a closed system so everything just runs better. If you hate your android being slow, then yes: switch to Apple. I grew up in a PC household too with gaming boxes and stuff as far back as the late 80s.

More recent context:

I bought us a 12gb RAM HP laptop (around $950) in April 2020 because we needed a home machine. Seemed like a great deal because it was a good amount of ram for a notebook for minor work from home shit and basics like vacation planning. By this year it was consistently running like fucking GARBAGE: constant surprise updates, literal hour to boot, new bloat ware every timeā€¦

I was swearing like a senior citizen at it all ā€œback in MY day it would only update when I WANTED it to, Iā€™m not doing anything on it I donā€™t even watch PORN on it why does it run like shit?!ā€

I was so pissed I said fuck it and treated us to a new MacBook Air at 24GB ram and 1TB storage. Monster for a damn Air (not pro) but it runs like a dream and is SILENT with the SSD drive. Even my husband sat down to do something on it and said ā€œI love this computerā€ even though weā€™ve had no real experience with MacOS.

by Anonymousreply 114November 6, 2022 3:09 PM

Samsung has fingerprint access - I didn't have to configure anything, it was just part of setting up the phone with an easy step by step tutorial (and I am a luddite!) I don't really care if a corporation has my fingerprints because they are already in a federal database due to former job requirements.

by Anonymousreply 115November 6, 2022 3:54 PM

R110 No one ever seems to be able to explain how Androids are better past the point that they are cheaper. Or people love to say that they are ā€œcustomizableā€ without explaining how.

by Anonymousreply 116November 6, 2022 3:54 PM

As well, you can replace your Samsung or other Android accessories with a variety of other off-brands and they usually work. Not the case with Apple.

by Anonymousreply 117November 6, 2022 4:00 PM

R116, I am the person who owns one of each. The android batteries last quite a bit longer. I don't find the Samsung operating system to be more challenging than the iphone. If budget is a concern you can get a pretty decent Android for little over $100. Off-brand accessories work with Androids. My iphone is great but I end up using the Android more - it's easier to use the keyboard.

by Anonymousreply 118November 6, 2022 4:06 PM

Iā€™ve been using Apple products since 1989. Before the Mac OS came along, intuitive and user-friendly personal computing for non-nerds was practically non-existent. Sure, you could go to Radio Shack and buy a cheap PC, but if you compared the UIs for both, the PCs (w/Windows) were laughably crude compared to Appleā€™s OS, and thatā€™s not to mention trying to trouble-shoot them.

I find the iOS/Mac OS user experience to be significantly superior to anything PC/Android.

I remember when Steve Ballmer cackled so contemptuously over the original iPhoneā€™s lack of a physical keyboard, and its limited sophistication compared to other cellphones of the time. However, over a relatively short period of time EVERY BUSINESS entering the newly exploding smartphone market began designing cellphones around the iPhone concept, because people were switching over to them in droves. The iPhone was directly responsible for the demise of the Blackberry.

I havenā€™t used an Android OS phone anytime recently, but I feel confident in saying theyā€™re conceived and designed for perpetual tinkerers, nerds, and people who are looking for cheaper alternatives.

iPhones are for people who want an unrivaled user experience, seamless interaction between Apple devices, and intuitiveness built in from the ground up in the OS.

by Anonymousreply 119November 6, 2022 4:07 PM

There are plenty of 3rd party/unofficial iPhone accessories/charges/cases/etc. You donā€™t HAVE to buy the official version, though time has taught me to do so, and plenty of others do the same.

Android phones do have some fun features I want and those Samsung phones take gorgeous photos.

But the bloat performance of anything PC/Android has, in my old age, rushed me into Appleā€™s arms.

by Anonymousreply 120November 6, 2022 4:07 PM

Androids are more forgiving if you drop them.

by Anonymousreply 121November 6, 2022 4:12 PM

R114 Of course a 24 gb ram computer is going to be faster than a 12 gb computer.

by Anonymousreply 122November 6, 2022 4:42 PM

R116 And can you explain how iPhones are better? They don't have the best cameras, don't have the best batteries...

by Anonymousreply 123November 6, 2022 4:43 PM

R123 see R119.

by Anonymousreply 124November 6, 2022 4:49 PM

This isnā€™t really related to the thread but I do find it odd when iPhone users buy off-brand accessories, especially third-party chargers that could damage the phone over a period of time. Why is it that they are willing to spend $1200 or more on a phone but arenā€™t willing to spend the extra $20 on a genuine charger? It reminds me of the days when people would buy an inkjet printer but buy the off-brand replacement cartridges and then blame the printer manufacturer when the cheap cartridges ruined the printer.

by Anonymousreply 125November 6, 2022 4:54 PM

R124 Being simpler doesn't mean being better. When there are phones that have better batteries, take better photos...how can iphones be seen as the best phones?

by Anonymousreply 126November 6, 2022 5:40 PM

R126 ā€œBetter batteries.ā€ When the average person gets a new phone every two years or so, who cares? And better camera? Thatā€™s debatable.

by Anonymousreply 127November 6, 2022 5:51 PM

R127 It's not debatable. iPhones maybe make the best videos, but there a couple of phones that make way better photos

by Anonymousreply 128November 6, 2022 7:35 PM

[quote]No one ever seems to be able to explain how Androids are better past the point that they are cheaper.

(rolling eyes)

Never mind this thread is full of examples... better cameras, features come to Android YEARS before they come to iPhone, longer battery life, and yes, customizations. You can choose from dozens of launchers, keyboards, and various look-and-feels. You can make your phone work the way you want, the way YOU find intuitive. You can turn off crap you don't like or that annoys you, and add new things that don't come with or aren't enabled by default.

And over-all, you'll spend less money, and won't be locked into a single company's ecosystem and mono-culture.

Monocultures are always bad... in nature, and in tech.

by Anonymousreply 129November 6, 2022 8:37 PM

R129 Again, here we are back to ā€œspend less.ā€ Iā€™m not poor nor am I a cheapskate. I donā€™t care about ā€œcheaper.ā€ Iā€™m not desperate for a phone that I can put on layaway at Walmart.

by Anonymousreply 130November 6, 2022 11:19 PM

It's not about cheaper. It's about value.

Much of the cost of apple products is the "smug tax".

Your response is part of that smugly arrogant attitude. You'd rather pay more for something that is years behind the curb because the logo means more to you than paying an actual fair price.

by Anonymousreply 131November 7, 2022 4:34 AM

R131

[quote]behind the curb

Oh, dear!

by Anonymousreply 132November 7, 2022 4:37 AM

Must have been an iPhone autocorrect error... like every time it types "fir" (a word almost nobody users) instead of "for", never mind the "duck" instead of "fuck" nonsense.

God, iPhone's suck.

by Anonymousreply 133November 7, 2022 4:40 AM

[quote] God, iPhone's suck.

[quote] behind the curb

The intellect of the Android crowd is self-evident.

by Anonymousreply 134November 7, 2022 4:52 AM

R134 This dude is a trip. He canā€™t write, he claims that iPhones are terrible and their users are idiots, and then blames his iPhone for typos. He hates iPhones but he bought one.

by Anonymousreply 135November 7, 2022 5:05 AM

OP I believe Android is just the operating system? If you're having trouble with your battery and your data speed then that related to the device and your mobile plan. I've had a android phones for 10 years and I love them. Currently have a 3 year old Samsung and it's great.

by Anonymousreply 136November 7, 2022 6:14 AM

Iphone is made in china where they are still locking down cities and due to covid. So their production has been affected.

by Anonymousreply 137November 7, 2022 7:34 PM

iphones are shit phones

it's for the sheep people

by Anonymousreply 138November 27, 2024 9:27 PM

You bumped a two-year old thread for THAT?

by Anonymousreply 139November 27, 2024 9:45 PM

Donā€™t know why anyone thinks that having an iPhone is prestigious. Everyone in NYC has one.

by Anonymousreply 140November 27, 2024 10:21 PM

They come out with one every year!

by Anonymousreply 141November 27, 2024 10:25 PM

Because I own stock in Apple

by Anonymousreply 142November 27, 2024 11:56 PM

I have always had Android phones and have never had a problem with my phones. I have Motorola's because the long battery life of their phones. I have never paid over 200.00 or 300.00 dollars for a phone.

by Anonymousreply 143November 28, 2024 12:32 AM

I have google pixel and I love them, pure android.

The fuckers an Apple deactivated my account on my iPad, they said I had broken their terms and conditions which I hadnā€™t. I had 13 years of stuff on there which I couldnā€™t back up. Many people have had this problem and worse, they used Apple for everything, laptop, phone, iPad, and lost all of their music and video library and everything else.

by Anonymousreply 144December 3, 2024 4:12 PM

I have a $150 Motorola G Android phone. It works exactly as it should for internet, phone, and text, and my photos are widely celebrated. I find iPhones to be inscrutable, and both to be largely way too expensive for what you get.

by Anonymousreply 145December 3, 2024 4:17 PM

I had iPhones and was very happy with both of them, no complaints at all. I then switched to Google Pixel and have had three, I love them because they are completely trouble-free work horses that function elegantly, and require no fuss at all. They only reason I have upgraded three times is because I get a lot of use from the brillian cameras which I upgrade everytime there is a fundamental improvement and other generational issues like vast improvements to battery life, etc. Each of teh three I had for close to three years befroe upgrading - never for any better reason than I wanted the new stuff, not that anything had become sluggish, faulty, etc. Android system on a Google Pixel is even somewhat more invisible than Apple presence on an iPhone, you nbever half to do anything with it, it just works.

Attack ads IĀ“ve never had with iPhone nor with Google Pixel. It sounds like OP is moving from a mediocre old Android to a new top of the line phone. There shouldnĀ“t be anything but pros.

by Anonymousreply 146December 3, 2024 4:34 PM

MUCH prettier

by Anonymousreply 147December 3, 2024 4:39 PM

I, my partner, my two sons, and my daughter-in-law all have Google Pixels. We love them. I also find iPhones inscrutable.

by Anonymousreply 148December 3, 2024 5:33 PM

Photos are widely celebrated? What does that mean, R145?

by Anonymousreply 149December 3, 2024 6:21 PM

Androids are shit.

by Anonymousreply 150December 3, 2024 6:25 PM

R169, I'm an amateur photographer with a sizeable audience that likes them and I've had offers to publish. I'm retired, it's my hobby, and I give my photo away for free on social media.
