What is the point?

[quote]What's The Point?

The point is you don't need to write a bunch of different songs, you can just take one song, tweek it a bit and have a bunch of hits with it.

People are suckers

Patty who?

by Anonymousreply 4October 25, 2022 2:14 PM

He wrote and produced this lovely ballad for a very young Whitney Houston. She was the featured vocalist on one of his studio albums.

So there's that...

And unlike OP, who is swimming in his own irrelevance and stupidity even as we speak, Paul Jabara is still remembered and will continue to be.

[quote]No More Tears

Actually, the song it titled "No More Tears/Enough is Enough". Jabara wrote the opening line "It's raining, it's pouring...." so that the song would be released on Streisand's "Wet" album where all the songs had water themes.

Well, at least only one person wrote the same song. Listen to Be a Clown by Cole Porter and Make 'Em Laugh by Arthur Freed.

Be a Clown from "The Pirate."

Make 'Em Laugh performed by Donald O'Conner from Singing in the Rain.

Ironically, both starred Gene Kelly.

Last Dance, sang by Donna Summer, won the Academy Award for best original song (off the Soundtrack Thank God It's Friday).

He had 4 tits?

by Anonymousreply 14January 10, 2023 12:05 AM

He started the red ribbon for AIDS awareness. Won an Oscar. Performed on Broadway (JCS and HAIR I think) and write a Broadway show (Rachel Lilly Rosen…etc)

Paul was a funny, talented guy who embodied the zeitgeist of the 70s in gay NY & LA. He was a renaissance man who lived hard and played even harder. And he was much more talented than OP implies.

You’re very wrong, OP. Jabara is best known for writing Rachael Lily Rosenbloom (And Don’t You Ever Forget It), which you ironically forgot.

Also, shame on you, R15, for misspelling “Rachael,” especially as the added “a” is a plot point in the musical.

Ellen Greene gave a tour-de-force performance as Rachael and the beloved score remains to this day, Jabara’s greatest legacy.

by Anonymousreply 22January 10, 2023 1:34 AM

And they were all covered by gay-hating Donna Summer!

Perhaps to theatre queens. Us popular, fun, disco queens remember his songs.

by Anonymousreply 24January 10, 2023 1:52 AM

Didn’t he live in a hut in Trek Wars?

by Anonymousreply 25January 10, 2023 2:04 AM

I remember seeing this video one of the first times I went to a gay bar. Good times.

I find Gregory Jbara kinda dorky hot.

by Anonymousreply 27January 10, 2023 2:51 AM

Who can forget this magnum opus?

I was working at a sports convention in Atlanta in the late 80's, and our booth was right next to a stage, where they had this song on a constant loop all day, with some people doing a dance routine to it. It was completely crazy-making.
