We are ok with this.

Give it some thought, OP.
Adidas will have to pay Kanye out to the tune of hundreds of millions for the honor of being a contemptible anti-Semite if they cancel his contract.
So it’s going to take time to untangle it legally.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | October 25, 2022 10:38 AM |
People are such sad sacks. Who looks up to this guy enough to want to emulate him or his clothing style? There’s nothing worth emulating. He’s a loser. I don’t get it. And he is not handsome nor does he have a charming personality.
He seems like someone who has brain damage from too much football. How is he some cultural hero? And to who? Speak up.

It’s all very unamerican.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | October 25, 2022 10:47 AM |
Unfortunately, R3 is correct. Depending on the terms of Kanye's contract Adidas can just let him sit there and do nothing with or for him without dropping him. I'm sure they are furiously reviewing all the clauses in their contract to see if there is some way out of it.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | October 25, 2022 10:52 AM |
Stop making excuses for a billion dollar company. They could sever ties if they wished. There is something in a contract that makes it void with behavior like this. They didn’t even try to distance themselves.
I think you’re giving adidas too much credit. You’re imaginative and creative but sadly making this up in your head. They are not sorry.

This is all I was asking for. If you come out as pro-fascist that should be the end of it. It was just 75 years ago that we stomped this out. The consequences are genocide. That’s enough to cancel someone over.

Why were you lying about Adidas not being able to cancel?
by Anonymous | reply 18 | October 25, 2022 11:39 AM |
OP you really should have provided more context when you started this thread, as has now been given.
Kanye has always been a fucking prick. He's also clearly deeply mentally unwell and should be sectioned now. It's sad when people become so rich that they don't have anyone around them that truly cares about them.

Kanye is about as anti-Semitic as John Galliano. Meaning just a little bit, casually. Galliano got trapped in his worst moment and paid dearly. He was high as a kite and drunk - that's often when it all comes out. Kanye is mentally ill and in mania.
Dior dumped Galliano and I think Adidas should dump Kanye no matter if it costs them a fortune.

Adidas just did
by Anonymous | reply 27 | October 25, 2022 12:02 PM |
What I mean, in summary, is that you dump your famous spokespeople/designers for this because it's not professional to be such a mess. Sure anti-semitism is unacceptable, too. But the big issue is these are not reliable people to associate with your brand. They are messy live wires.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | October 25, 2022 12:02 PM |
R3 and r6 are a real life lesson on fascism go-along where they will start agreeing and making excuses for the oppressors.

by Anonymous | reply 36 | October 25, 2022 12:13 PM |
I wasn't "caught carrying water" for fascists, for fuck's sake. I was wrong in my assessment of how long Adidas would take to get rid of Kanye West. I didn't support fascism, I wasn't in favor of fascism I was simply wrong about how long it would be before they could cut him loose and what the terms of their contract with him were.
I don't need a lesson or a lecture on the nature of the struggle for democracy. I am not young, in fact I'm quite old. I don't think Kanye's a genius and I've been standing up against various forms of fascism in America for decades. My recommended response to anti-Semitism is generally a baseball bat.
I'm sure your heart is in the right place but I think you need to take a fucking breath and think before you say that shit to people.

His collaboration with the Gap was a bust. The sneakers are the only profitable fashion product he has. They are ugly, but I heard very comfortable. As far as music, he hasn’t been a big seller in years. He charts big at the beginning, but nosedives quickly.
I am against a lot of cancel culture, but if anyone deserved to be canceled it’s Kanye West. He’s been a bullying asshole for years and yet everyone continued to kiss his ass. He should’ve been done when he harassed Taylor Swift on stage. Even with the Adidas execs, he made a fool out of them with that video, harassing them on IG daily, I think he even said the CEO died. I just hope he gets help. I’m no longer a fan and I am absolutely justified I’m not being OK with his most recent antics, AND I should have been much more selective about his past one, but I thought he was just manic and would hope he’d come back from it.
NOPE. Never again.

There are absolutely zero excuses for people who have been given the world, given every opportunity and resource to get better and choose not to. He is aware that he is bipolar and refuses to take his medication because he perceives himself to be some genuius, believes himself to be the literal second coming. He had his own church and his own cult following. He was propped up by companies like Addidas that lined his pockets when is music career faded.

Very true; he dared them to cut him off & they finally nutted up & did it. There will be all kinds of whining & wailing about cancel culture, but this has been a long time in coming & I'm glad they've finally done it. And the irony is that the Fox News crowd won't have much to say about it because he was never anything more than some village idiot to them anyway.
It'll be interesting to see how long his $$ holds out & whether Brad Pitt still shows up to his tent rival church services

So many people are truly suffering. Hungry, homeless, alone and sick. This rich motherfucker has the money and the ability to help so many. He could have used some of his money and name recognition to make a positive change in politics, such as backing a decent , honest candidate, ect. So very many urgent problems that desperately need attention. This is why I despise the rich. While the world falls apart and people suffer and die, the planet burns, beautiful wildlife goes extinct, these self serving sociopaths just pour more gasoline on it and only worry about how much media attention they are getting today. They are beyond repulsive. They are destructive, undeserving, wastes of life. And yet so many admire them, but their products, listen to their shallow, illiterate, adolescent lyrics and deem them a fucking genius. They look at women whose only contribution to this world is self love and obsession with their appearance. Beyond empty and shallow. This is impressive? The world has truly gone mad.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | October 25, 2022 2:10 PM |
R57, I think your disgust is misguided. This has nothing to do with "The Rich." It has everything to do with Kanye West and narcissistic assholes like him who would be exactly the same no matter if they were rich or poor - terrorizing 10 people or 10 million. Again, money just allows you to freely be the person you are inside and out. And there are several good people, kind hearted, who become rich and use their money to help others, people who help society move forward and not just for a tax write-off. They aren't lauded as openly as the assholes, but they do exist. So money has nothing to do with it. It has to do with who the people are at their core.
And money is very relative. Probably everyone here on Datalounge, financially speaking, is living a very wealthy life compared to half of the globe. You have more due in monthly bills than half of the world's population will see in a year. You are living a life they can only dream of and possibly not even imagine some aspects of. And what are most of us doing with that money? Probably holding onto it, struggling to make more, buy more and complaining about it every step of the way - just like "the rich" you despise.

R26 Unlike Kanye, Galliano is actually a design genius. Galliano was also set-up to save Dior from paying his 14 million end of contract fee, which must have been easy for them as he was an absolute mess because of drug addiction. Also, what Galliano actually said was wildly taken out of context by the media. The video also lacked both sides of the conversation, which was convenient.
I think comparing the two is pointless.

R64 one of the most offensive celebrities, I am sure according to you, would be Kim Kardashian. She has used her celebrity to get a good number of wrongly incarcerated people out of prison and back to their families. She could have chosen to do absolutely nothing. I give her major props for that alone no matter what else she does. She spoke up for these people when no one else would and brought national, if not international attention to their plight.
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie routinely sold their own paparazzi pictures to support poor and needy families. They have given away over 20 million dollars doing that. There are people who realize they don't need all the money in the world and give away what they don't need.
Bethany Frankel after amassing a fortune has dedicated her life to getting emergency aid and relief to areas hit by natural disasters. She is there, in person, on the ground making sure that the people who need the help get the help. She puts herself in harms way and raises awareness and gets all of her wealthy friends (who just want to write checks) to fork over money. I KNOW I have never stood in line to help any relief efforts.
Shaq routinely will surprise poor unsuspecting families by buying their groceries, buying gas, buying entire communities things they need.
That is just off the top of my head. And there are tons of things celebrities do that we never hear about. AGAIN, it comes down to the person and who they are, not what they do or how much money they have. If you're a poor entitled asshole, you will be a rich entitled asshole. If you're a poor generous person who would give the shirt off your back to help someone, more than likely you are going to lend a helping hand to your fellow man when you have the means.
And before you poo poo all of these examples - just dismiss them because they don't fit your narrative - ask yourself what have you done? Seriously, like what have you done? And you don't have to tell me here, I don't want to hear your supposed big heart CV. I honestly get the vibe from where your heart is on here, and they way you talk, that you don't have a generous heart. Your comments aren't born out of frustration, but rage. I can honestly say I haven't done much myself. It's easy to say IF I had more I would. But as I said before, we all have a lot more than 90% of the world out there and what are we doing to make the world a better place for others?
by Anonymous | reply 75 | October 25, 2022 6:24 PM |
R75- With all of her money, is that suppose to be impressive? Her kissing up to Trump? You bet your ass I am angry. These garbage people are actively assisting in the downfall of our country. They are either silent or openly support the ones who are destroying democracy. So please spare me your condescending lecture. The rich are the enemies now. The elite. The people who i am the most angry with are the regular, average people who support and admire scum like KW. Life isn't fair and it never has been. But this goes far beyond normal. We are in very dangerous times and people like this gasbag are not simply ignorant and harmless. They have the money and resources to do real damage. We have no rule of law, not for the rich. We have no fourth wall, they are a corrupt joke. The media is owned by the very people who are destroying the country - the rich. My question for you would be - why aren't YOU angry?
by Anonymous | reply 76 | October 25, 2022 7:04 PM |
