Mia may be a nut in real life but she was excellent in this film.

Was she having an affair with the antiques dealer?
Also, did she formally break up with her husband or just leave one day?

A friend of mine lived in the house next door. They used this house as the location as was. At the time it was unusual for a family to own one of those houses as a whole.

Good film

One of the best parts of the film is the 1970s soundtrack.

Can anyone explain the plot?

One of my all-time favorites. I wish someone would put it out on Blu-ray. I actually "bought" a streaming version on Amazon some time ago so I could watch it in a decent print. I first saw it on a public TV channel when I was in high school in the mid-2000s in a very muddy print, and something about it really creeped me out, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it. I still can't. There is a strange somberness about it from start to finish. Very oppressive atmosphere, and the plot revelations (which really just consist of information relayed in dialogue) get only progressively weirder and more sinister. It's a dour, almost depressing movie, but it's quite eerie. Very much in a similar vein to "Don't Look Now". I recently bought a used copy of the source novel ("Julia") after reading that Peter Straub had died. I have never read it. I may dive into it this weekend—very appropriate for Halloween.

Why was it called Full Circle?

Did I miss something? Thought it was an empty bore and didn't understand it. But I'm not alone⬇️⬇️⬇️
The New York Times Janet Maslin
Based on a novel by Peter Straub, The Haunting of Julia manages to draw on every horror movie cliche imaginable and still make very little sense.

I thought the cunting daughter was called Dylan.

Could they not do the Heimlich maneuver?

I just erased a wall of meaningless shit.
Straub is part of my Christmas re-read list. He dizzies me at the start so I’m ready to pay attention to the real story. I can’t say that about “Julia” and the movie was one I always avoided - another being Rosemary’s Baby II.

R8 there is a full plot summary on Wikipedia that explains it all

(^.^) does it explain why the film is so incredibly dull and slow?

May I recommend The Changeling which has a house haunted by the ghost of a boy killed there, a seance and a protagonist who loses his daughter in the opening scene.

Coming to Blu-ray and 4K soon worldwide. Scream Factory is doing a 4K disc here in the U.S., and the BFI is doing one in the UK. There is also an Australian Blu-ray edition that's limited and comes with the original score on CD. I jumped the gun and bought the Australian disc before Scream Factory made their announcement; I will probably be getting both. I love this movie.

I got the 4K from Scream Factory and watched it last night. It looks better than it ever has. Just a great release, and with some informative bonus features, including a full commentary with the director. I believe this film never made it to DVD due to rights issues. I am not sure what happened, but something must have occurred given that it's getting Blu-ray releases in multiple countries this year.
