Legendary Movies You Never Saw - And Why?

Since everyone here is a film critic - or at least has the looks of one - let's talk the films you did NOT see.

What are some legendary/classic/huge movies you have for whatever reason never seen? And why?

For example: One of the biggest movies of my birth year was "Dirty Dancing," and I've never seen it. Oh sure, I've seen little clips here and there, but I've never sat through the whole thing. I guess I just never cared for Patrick Swayze.

by Anonymousreply 52October 27, 2022 11:02 PM

Most of them. Never have been a cinephile.

The theater experience never had any appeal to me and certainly not now in the age of cell phones,

by Anonymousreply 1October 24, 2022 5:59 PM

I've never seen "Dirty Dancing" because it never interested me.

But I've never seen "Star Wars" which is one I should probably force myself to watch one day.

by Anonymousreply 2October 24, 2022 6:00 PM

Top Gun Star Wars

by Anonymousreply 3October 24, 2022 6:07 PM

šŸ˜’ *sigh* Top Gun Star wars

by Anonymousreply 4October 24, 2022 6:08 PM

Sorry. For some reason my keyboard isn't working.

by Anonymousreply 5October 24, 2022 6:10 PM

Titanic.

Avatar.

Any of the capeshit movies, even the ones people told me I would really, really love even if I was definitely NOT a Marvel fan.

by Anonymousreply 6October 24, 2022 6:17 PM

Any of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I don't care for fantasy movies with wizards and elves and shit.

by Anonymousreply 7October 24, 2022 6:23 PM

Godfather movies, The Silence of the Lambs

by Anonymousreply 8October 24, 2022 6:26 PM

ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT

by Anonymousreply 9October 24, 2022 6:26 PM

I’m a major cinephile and I go out if my way to see freaking everything. Shockingly, I’ve never seen Gone With The Wind and I honestly don’t have much interest in seeing it, other than being as a completist.

by Anonymousreply 10October 24, 2022 6:30 PM

Most Marvel/Superhero movies. The Dark Knight is one that stands out in particular that I should see, but probably never will.

by Anonymousreply 11October 24, 2022 6:35 PM

I’ve never seen Valley of the Dolls or The Boys in the Band. I feel they’re bound to be better as abstractions.

by Anonymousreply 12October 24, 2022 6:38 PM

I refuse to see Rocky because it beat Network for best picture.

by Anonymousreply 13October 24, 2022 6:40 PM

Wow. I could have written R7, myself! From Here to Eternity, and I saw the first Star Wars in theater as a kid and I'd seen enough. Yadda, yadda, yadda do - Horskey borskey bleu to you...

by Anonymousreply 14October 24, 2022 6:49 PM

I haven't seen any of the superhero nonsense of the last decade, but it really seems to run together, doesn't it?

Of course, none of that dreck qualifies as "legendary."

by Anonymousreply 15October 24, 2022 7:07 PM

ā€œRosebud.ā€ I’ve heard it’s a sled and that it’s a euphemism for the clitoris and even if I tried to care about Citizen Kane, I couldn’t care enough to put it in my Netflix queue.

by Anonymousreply 16October 24, 2022 7:18 PM

Star Wars

Jaws

Halloween

Avatar

All Marvel shit films

Spider-Man

Last Year at Marienbad

Funny Girl

The Wizard of Oz

Cabaret

Gandhi

Amadeus

One Flew Over the Cuckoo Nest

The Godfather 1-3

Network

The Color Purple

Singin' in the Rain

Seven Samurais

The Hidden Fortress

Nomadland

I watched about 15 minutes of most of them, but couldn't finish though. They were not compelling enough.

by Anonymousreply 17October 24, 2022 7:20 PM

Jaws was not compelling enough?

What do you imagine the word ā€œcompellingā€ means?

by Anonymousreply 18October 24, 2022 7:23 PM

Forest Gump. I don't like seeing actors portray retards.

by Anonymousreply 19October 24, 2022 7:31 PM

Dances with Wolves. It won the oscar over Goodfellas so I will not watch it.

by Anonymousreply 20October 24, 2022 8:14 PM

Top Gun. I've always hated that type of jingoistic jerk-off crap.

by Anonymousreply 21October 24, 2022 8:22 PM

R17 Now we need to know what movies you DO watch all the way through since you apparently have the attention span of a spaniel.

by Anonymousreply 22October 24, 2022 8:25 PM

Most war movies and westerns. Too masculino.

There's also the problem of forgetting if you've watched an entire movie. I think I saw all of 2001: A Space Odyssey or maybe I've just seen parts of it.

I've never seen Top Gun, Pretty Woman, or Sister Act. And, those were in the era where I saw a lot of movies.

I've seen the first X Men and Black Panther, but other than those two, I've never watched any other Marvel movie in its entirety.

Did see the original Star Wars trio and the 1st one of the second trio but nothing after that. And, saw the first LOTR but none of the others.

Did see all the Harry Potters though so....I have my priorities.

by Anonymousreply 23October 24, 2022 8:31 PM

I’ve never seen Top Gun either.

I’ve never seen West Side Story , Valley of the Dolls , Casablancas , Schindler’s List , Citizen Kane , Singin’ in the Rain.

I don’t think I’ve ever watched Dirty Dancin’ the whole way through. I’ve also never seen Flashdance or Footloose.

I’ve also never seen Jerry Maguire.

by Anonymousreply 24October 24, 2022 8:42 PM

Oh I have to say why…

Most of them I feel like were never on TV growing up as a kid and I don’t ever see them on streaming services either.

by Anonymousreply 25October 24, 2022 8:50 PM

The Godfather series Scarface Taxi Driver

No desire to see any of these.

by Anonymousreply 26October 24, 2022 8:54 PM

[quote] Forest Gump. I don't like seeing actors portray retards.

r19 Agreed. I hate every Adam Sandler movie!

by Anonymousreply 27October 25, 2022 12:39 AM

These are huge hit movies I've never seen. never had any interest in any of them:

E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial

Pretty Woman

Ghost

Sister Act

Dirty Dancing

All the movies in the Harry Potter franchise

All the movies in the Twilight franchise

None of the sequels to Star Wars

by Anonymousreply 28October 25, 2022 12:46 AM

R22, why should you care? Are you an fat, listless OCD who has to know everything in life?

by Anonymousreply 29October 25, 2022 8:08 AM

[quote]Are you an fat, listless OCD

I was going to type "an OCD" but then the gboard added "fat, listless" for me.

by Anonymousreply 30October 25, 2022 8:10 AM

None of the superhero/Marvel/DC movies over the past 5 years

Avatar

Citizen Kane (and many other "classic" movies - and I'm 53, just had no interest)

None of the later Star Wars sequels or prequels made after the first 3 original movies

There's more but i can't think of them right now. The usual reason is how hyped they were and I just became over-saturated w/all the hoopla around the movies.

by Anonymousreply 31October 25, 2022 8:42 AM

Ben-Hur

Out of Africa

The Right Stuff

But the other night I did watch Dr. Goldfoot and the Bikini Machine with Vincent Price and loved his performance. He was funny and snarky.

by Anonymousreply 32October 25, 2022 8:55 AM

The Godfather Films and Apocalypse Now; Full Metal Jacket; Catch-22; Five Easy Pieces; Easy Rider; Valley of the Dolls; The Boys in the Band; Cabrini Nights; Jules et Jim; Breathless; Last Tango in Paris, the Exorcist, Natural Born Killers, Hiroshima Mon Amour, The 39 Steps, The Bank Dick, The Conversation, The 400 Blows, Scarface, The Little Mermaid, Dr. Zhivago, West Side Story.

Some of these I plan on seeing, some I don't care anything about.

by Anonymousreply 33October 25, 2022 9:13 AM

I’ve never seen any of the Bond movies. Just not interested, honestly.

by Anonymousreply 34October 25, 2022 9:20 AM

Last.Tango in Paris

Pretty Woman

Harry Met Sally

Jerry McGuire

Why? No interest.

by Anonymousreply 36October 25, 2022 10:10 AM

You guys who have never seen Citizen Kane should see it. It's a good movie.

by Anonymousreply 37October 25, 2022 10:17 AM

I saw recently that I enjoyed mildly. Just regular Netflix fare. But I can't remember any of them and nothing stayed with me.

I think I'll stop watching movies altogether.

by Anonymousreply 38October 25, 2022 12:37 PM

I never saw any of the Friday The 13th, Halloween or Nightmare On Elm Street movies. I don't want to see gore, blood and guts all over the place. I only saw the first Star Wars movie...no desire to see the others. It was a meh to me...no interest in it.

by Anonymousreply 39October 25, 2022 12:46 PM

"Debbie Does Dallas" for obvious reasons.

by Anonymousreply 40October 25, 2022 8:53 PM

I encourage EVERYONE to see The Legend of Hell House...it's a hoot!

by Anonymousreply 41October 26, 2022 5:59 AM

Never saw: ET Any Star Wars flick The Goonies Any Harry Potter flick Any LOTR flick

by Anonymousreply 42October 26, 2022 6:22 AM

Silence of the Lambs.

by Anonymousreply 43October 26, 2022 6:23 AM

R42 here....sorry I forgot the spaces to format.

Also never watched any comic/superhero movie of the last 20 years except The Dark Knight (and Joker if it counts). Not DC, not Marvel, nothing.

by Anonymousreply 44October 26, 2022 6:26 AM

To Kill A Mockingbird, The Sting, Casablanca, Taxi Driver, Cleopatra w/Liz, all of the Star Wars follow-ups, The Harry Potter films, Summer Stock w/Judy.... just never got around to them. Yet. Oh, yes. I haven't seen BROS.

by Anonymousreply 45October 26, 2022 5:18 PM

TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD

TOM JONES

by Anonymousreply 46October 27, 2022 5:05 PM

R46, that's not unusual.

by Anonymousreply 47October 27, 2022 10:03 PM

[quote] It's very typical for an asshole celebrity to spread money around to people he doesn't know

Or maybe he wanted to be of help to people who needed it, you asshole.

by Anonymousreply 48October 27, 2022 10:50 PM

šŸ™‰ It's A Wonderful Life

Every time I tried to watch this movie, I was bored in fifteen minutes or less.

And that crazy Jimmy Stewart voice .... He sounds like the male version of Judy Garland.

by Anonymousreply 49October 27, 2022 10:55 PM

Forest Gump

Dances With Wolves

Taxi Driver

Raging Bull

Breakfast At Tiffany's

Avatar

Marvel Movies

by Anonymousreply 51October 27, 2022 11:01 PM

R50. Never saw these because they looked like torture to sit through. Put the titles together and I'll watch: Taxi Driver Has Breakfast at Tiffany's; Dances With Raging Bull; Pulp Forrest Gump.
