Tasteful Friends - 1906 home, beautiful, but its in Detroit (at least one of the nicer parts)
The front porch and port de cochere look like later additions, particularly that porch. The interior is absolutely epic though for the most part, and staged with appropriate furniture that mostly fits the age and style of the house. Kitchen is dated but perfectly functional, I could live with it fine.
Doe have over $30K a year property taxes, but it also has a carriage house with three bedrooms, the rent of which could go towards offsetting that

All that dark wood, bad faux painting, and rococo woodwork...
and in Detroit

The rococo rooms need a LOT of work. They could be grand but its difficult to tell if there is truely refined stucco work, from the shitty photos. It looks like it may sadly be very bad pastiche. But maybe not. The wood rooms seem to have good woodwork, carving, and panelling.

Gorgeous. If only the water were drinkable and the streets were unshootable and you have the security staff to defend it.
I love the wood and the carvings and the old world mastery of the place.
I'll give you tree fiddy for it.

I had a conference in Detroit and managed to go on a house tour. Many are gorgeous but it’s a ghost town.

It’s a time capsule. Paneling for the gents and rococo for the ladies. Thus is the kind of house where the ladies withdraw and the men are served port. An elderly couple would be the targeted buyers. I’d like to see what those budget remodelers on hgtv would do to it.

I don't know, everything about it is so over the top. Louis XIV, Victorian and Tudor seem to be at war here

Hate the main house, love the carriage house.

I do not like it. Some of the woodwork is impressive, but it is too much. Too big and too much work.

It's overwhelming. I'd feel like a small dog who has the run of the house going from room to room wondering what I'm suppose to do in this space

There's a shiny city west of here
Where dreams are booming into gear
It's no humm-drumm 9 to 5 town
It's a growing, going, bright, alive town
Golden sparks light up the skies there like a thousand 4th of Julys there
How I want to stake a claim in, roll up my sleeves and make a name in
DETROIT
You can hear it humming
See it coming
Feel it everywhere you go
It's tomorrow morning
The future dawning with a bright and shining glow
It's the land where golden chariots are molded out of dreams
DETROIT
DETROIT
DETROIT
DETROIT
It's DETROIT

R7 Detroit has been absolutely horrendous in recent years, and large swathes of it likely still are. However it is starting to recover from its long dark night of the soul, and this house is in Indian Village which is amongst the ten safest areas there. Still not great though I'll grant, and the climate is pretty awful as far as I know.
The house itself though.... I'd be all over it in a different location

The staircase is absolutely astounding, and I love that so many original fixtures remain and the whole thing hasn't been painted over in white semi-gloss, but those painted ceilings are a mess. There's so much fading and flaking that the paint looks like water damage in some rooms.
Like r14, I love the carriage house more than the main home.
