Here in NYC I’ve occasionally seen young guys wearing pearls for the last year or so. What’s amusing is I almost never see women of any age wearing pearls.

The aptly named Joc Pederson (former Dodger now a SF Giant) has worn pearls with his uniform for years. When he was an Atlanta Brave and they won the World Series, they sent his pearls to the Hall of Fame and incorporated a pearl into their Rings. It's fun, it's endearing and I've never heard a snide word from fans about it. People need to unclench (or in this case unclutch?).

Like many trends these days (the "undercut" hairstyle) it's largely confined to two sub-groups - hetero working class club boys and fashion-conscious urban gays.

Men can wear pearls and look good. Tahitian pearls in round or baroque would look great especially on men with tanned skin tone.

Also longer strands, men have thick necks and a long strand would look best.

The son of one of my friends is an 18 year old senior in high school. He's handsome and sexy all rolled into one (though can't socialize too well). He wears pearls all the time - as do some of his friends. He also wears a lot of hot pink - shirts, shorts, socks, jackets, bathrobe. He wears it well (he has Italain / Mediterrranean coloring).

He doesn't have any girlfriends or even female friends, and hangs around handsome muscle boys like himself, who all dress similarly. I (and a few others) believe he's definitely gay - only problem is he hasn't come out to anyone (not even his mother - my friend). His choice of wardrobe and pearls has come up in conversation a few times and his mother is quick to say 'he's not gay' before anyone comments. So we all shut up and smile at her.
