They have had it with party seat-fillers like Karen Bass who have no reason for running for office other than as a career move. And even now, her plans are weak, watered-down and uninspired. If elected, she will be LA's Bill de Blasio -- a void who will mouth all the right progressive keywords like "equity" while presiding over LA's continued decline.

Caruso has one concern: making himself richer. If you don't live in Brentwood, he doesn't care about you.

I first heard Rick Caruso's name about two & half years ago on my Next Door group. In addition to his huge malls/properties (The Grove, The Americana, etc.), he also owns a number of smaller, neighborhood shopping centers -- including one in Encino, which had been "anchored" by a Ralphs supermarket since the center was developed in 1995.

When that Ralphs' lease came up for renewal in early 2020, Caruso jacked up the rent so much that Ralphs'/Kroger felt the location could no longer be profitable. And after months of negotiation, Ralphs' closed their doors. Store managers explained to customers that it had been leased to Amazon Fresh. It would eventually re-open as Amazon Fresh, after extensive remodeling, which would take several months. (ended up taking almost a year & half, due to pandemic)

The locals were FURIOUS!! That only left a Gelson's (which is expensive as hell) in the immediate neighborhood. I saw post after post after post after post on ND, completely excoriating Caruso for being such a greedy prick & destroying neighborhoods. (Amazon Fresh seemed especially appalling to most; if the space had been leased to Vons or Trader Joe's, there would have been far less anger).

Flash-forward two years...to the Mayor's primary.

Suddenly many of the people who complained the loudest about him/Ralphs' closure on Next Door, now supported him for Mayor. I still don't get it.
