Wouldn’t there be an uproar with crews threatening to walk?
Could a White Person Get Away with Playing Evita on Broadway Now?

Not if she says she's has some Sephardic Jewish heritage (of Spanish origin).

Gaga could pull it off on Broadway. She even looks like the real Evita. Much more than Madonna did. Evita was also a white Argentinian.

Italians are actually Latins, so it makes perfect sense for Patti and Madonna to play Eva.

That is, she could get away with it in that case - being Hispanic by virtue of being Sephardic/Spanish Jewish.

oops, wrong thread about Lavin.

Yes.
Evita was white

Eva Peron's family was almost entirely French and Spanish. So, not really a controversial casting choice.

Could you explain exactly what you mean by "could a white person get away with playing Evita on Broadway now"?
Evita was a white woman of French and Spanish heritage.

Argentinians are white.
The majority are actually Italian, not Spanish and there are large communities of Irish, Welsh, Swiss, Jewish and of course, Germans, who by the current generations are all very much intermarried.
Walk around Buenos Aires and everyone looks like a white European, or a white American, save the immigrants from places like Paraguay.

Could Lea get away with playing Evita?

Despite some dumb Wokies insisting that everyone south of the Rio Grande is a Person of Color, a lot/many of them would slap your face if you called them that. At least the ones of Euro descent.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | October 22, 2022 1:59 AM |
No, it would take a person of color who is known to be one of America’s foremost actresses, like me.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | October 22, 2022 2:17 AM |
Which is not to say that some Twitter Wokie, unaware that Duarte, like almost all Argentinians was white, would not be up in arms about the casting.

OP is highly challenged.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | October 22, 2022 10:26 AM |
It’s called acting. Meaning playing someone not yourself. Wokies need to have their skulls cracked.

They cast Ricky Martin in the role in the 2000s and that version flopped.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | October 22, 2022 10:42 AM |
LuPone's version looked closer to Lucille Ball
by Anonymous | reply 17 | October 22, 2022 10:49 AM |
Like Che Guevara, Ricky seems to be of pure Spanish descent.

Evita was white, OP.

I just picked a huge booger out of my nose.

Evita was a white person. She wasn't of mestizo origin. Pure Spanish.

White Adjacent troll vs. DeFucktard…I cannot tell yet!

We saw the ART's Evita in Cambridge last week. Their Evita, Shereen Pimental, was not white but of some mixed racial heritage. And Eva Peron was a tiny woman. Shereen is not.
Her race wasn't as noticeable as her wig line which was very visible from the seats in front. We enjoyed the show. I liked the Che, too, but he's no Mandy Patankin nor is Shereen Patti..

Eva Peron was white. Her parents were both Basques, French on her father's side and Spanish on her mother's. She had no known indigenous ancestry, and her appearance was as someone of overwhelming or total European descent.
OP is trolling.

White for some Americans is different than white for Latam, or Europe probably too. I feel in the states, if you're not pale, blond and blue eyed, and you have a hispanic last name, you're not considered white. As an argentinean I can definitely say there are much less blonde blue eyed people in Argentina than there are in the U.S, but there is also much less people with indigenous blood, or at least, with less percentage of it, than alot of other Latam countries.
So it depends on what you consider white.
In any case Lady Gaga definitely looks like she could not only be Evita, but she has a very "argentinean" face...probably her italian blood. It's never been a musical I care for but she could do a decent job.
