Well?!

It has always sounded to me as if the song is about a woman trying to convince a gay man to sleep with her.

I am aware the original version was sung by a male band.

by Anonymousreply 1October 21, 2022 2:24 AM

It was the first music video I ever saw.

by Anonymousreply 2October 21, 2022 2:25 AM

I was going to say - 1982, that's pretty early for a music video, isn't it?

by Anonymousreply 3October 21, 2022 2:26 AM

Great choreographer.

by Anonymousreply 4October 21, 2022 2:30 AM

When I discovered it was Khan and Minh's favorite song, I realized I would love "King of the Hill" forever.

Did she have a threesome with Bowie and Angie?

by Anonymousreply 6October 21, 2022 2:53 AM

Toni Basil reveals her court battle over 'Mickey' plus she opens up about her friend, Bette Midler.

She looks pretty good for her age. Of course, she at an age where "what's the point" anymore. But, i give her props for nipping and tucking every decade, over the years, in a tasteful subtle way.

by Anonymousreply 8October 21, 2022 3:24 AM

R8-LOL

Nipping and Tucking every decade- A VERY datalounge thing to say.

by Anonymousreply 9October 21, 2022 3:29 AM

r9 Darling, It's "maintenance" otherwise it's a full "renovation" (every 20 years!) And then everyone stares in judgement!

We don't want the "bad publicity"!

by Anonymousreply 10October 21, 2022 3:39 AM

Well, that song was no Gloria, that's for sure.

by Anonymousreply 11October 21, 2022 3:44 AM

Why?

by Anonymousreply 12October 21, 2022 3:48 AM

R11- Sorry Laura it's BETTER than GLORIA.

by Anonymousreply 13October 21, 2022 4:01 AM

the '60s

Thanks R14

Love this

She was 39 when she did 'Mickey"?!?! I'll be! All these years I thought she was around 22.

You really do learn something new every day.

by Anonymousreply 17October 21, 2022 4:23 AM

No r3, Friday Night Videos was already around then.

by Anonymousreply 18October 21, 2022 4:32 AM

R16- Very cute.

I approve 👍.

Toni Basil is cute and funny

Teri Garr is adorable.

by Anonymousreply 19October 21, 2022 4:32 AM

R16- When she first walked in Toni Basil looked a lot like Suzanne Pleshette.

by Anonymousreply 20October 21, 2022 4:36 AM

I too was astonished when I found out how old she was in Mickey. I was dating a cutie named Mickey during that time, and he loathed that song with a passion !

by Anonymousreply 21October 21, 2022 4:37 AM

I was a cheerleader dating a basketball player named Mickey. He was hot too!

by Anonymousreply 22October 21, 2022 4:40 AM

She played an actress in Eating (1990) or maybe just herself who wanted to fire her agent.

by Anonymousreply 23October 21, 2022 4:41 AM

JFC, she did the choreography for Quentin in OUATIH? She's almost 80!

by Anonymousreply 24October 21, 2022 4:43 AM

The music video was directed, produced and choreographed by Basil herself. The cheerleaders featured in the video were members of a championship squad from Carson High School in Carson, California. Those cheerleaders are all quite big compared to Toni.

by Anonymousreply 25October 21, 2022 4:50 AM

Toni appears to like the ladies. Never married.

by Anonymousreply 26October 21, 2022 4:54 AM

I love all 1980s "name songs". Amanda (Boston), Sara (Starship), Suzanne (Journey), Joanna (Kool and the Gang), Valerie (Steve Winwood), Rosanna (Toto), Carrie (Europe), Billie Jean (MJ), Angelia (Richard Marx), Jack & Diane (Mellencamp).

by Anonymousreply 27October 21, 2022 4:56 AM

Doesn't matter to me. She's fabulous.

by Anonymousreply 28October 21, 2022 4:56 AM

Found this: "Toni is a shy person who has never talked about her personal life among her fans as well as to the media. Within the past, she dated Dean Stockwell and had him as her boyfriend."

by Anonymousreply 29October 21, 2022 5:02 AM

R29 I can sorta vouch for this. I had a friend (female) who worked for Toni in the late 70s. I believe Toni and Dean were quite a long time couple. After that, who knows…

by Anonymousreply 30October 21, 2022 5:10 AM

Toni and Teri were in a lot of projects together, including Viva Las Vegas, Pajama Party and The T.A.M.I. Show. Pretty much anything that involved go-go dancing.

by Anonymousreply 31October 21, 2022 5:25 AM

Those were some rough and geriatric-looking cheerleaders...

by Anonymousreply 32October 21, 2022 8:51 AM

The opening stunt, where a cheerleader jumps through the center of a human pyramid, is now illegal in competition.

by Anonymousreply 33October 21, 2022 9:01 AM

R33, too many horrific injuries?

by Anonymousreply 35October 21, 2022 9:13 AM

It was a great song, regardless.

Everyone understood it was a song about a fag hag and her gay BFF at school. Even teens understood this.

by Anonymousreply 36October 21, 2022 9:13 AM

Now when you take me by the hooves, who's ever gonna know And every time you move I let a little more show There's something you can use, so don't say no Mickey So come on and give it to me anyway you can Anyway you want to do it, I'll take it like a man But please baby, please don't leave me in the damp Mickey.

by Anonymousreply 37October 21, 2022 9:41 AM

The first time I ever heard this song, that creepy robot mouse cheerleader sang it at Showbiz Pizza Place.

by Anonymousreply 38October 21, 2022 9:45 AM

Let's not. I'd rather discuss OP's empty putrid head being crushed by Christina Metz huge ass.

by Anonymousreply 39October 21, 2022 9:58 AM

All the rhymes were made on "Kitty". But I guess that doesn't matter in pop music.

by Anonymousreply 40October 21, 2022 12:44 PM

Before someone starts quacking about "one-hit wonders," please enjoy her other chart hit.

R41- Is that FAT one Rerun from What's Happening!!

by Anonymousreply 42October 21, 2022 1:59 PM

Which came first, “Mickey” or “ Jessie’s Girl”? Both songs jumped out of the radio and made my gay, fat little 10-year-old self very happy. Of course, my family ridiculed me for it (they’d go on to ridicule everything I like) but those 2 songs pretty much introduced me to the wonderful world of pop music - wonderful escape from my dreary existence.

Thanks, Toni!

by Anonymousreply 43October 21, 2022 2:07 PM

R34- I never heard that version but I definitely prefer Toni Basil's version.
