The article is a bit too sanctimonious for my tastes. We get it, they think the mother is wrong. But I can see how she is worried about paying her daughter's tuition. She is a single mother on a limited budget. What if the parents stop paying and it turns out the girl is just " queer" anyway ( i.e. str8 girl who wants attention). Even if she is a genuine lesbian, resources matter. It might be better to keep it from the mothers parents until graduation. You can always tell which people grew up rich and coddled. They live in worlds of moral absolutes where money just doesn't matter.

Just tell the kid, but nobody is going to think two 14 year old girls holding hands means they are lesbians.

I am more shocked by the fact that her homophobic parents are still in touch with their sinful daughter, let alone financially supporting their grandchild.
