How can any other kind of pie even compete?
Isn't Lemon Meringue pie just the best pie ever?
by Anonymous | reply 68 | October 25, 2022 3:27 PM |
It’s really good especially in the summer
by Anonymous | reply 1 | October 16, 2022 11:14 PM |
I like the lemon curd part, but have never liked the meringue part.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | October 16, 2022 11:14 PM |
I like it a lot but prefer that denser kind of meringue, the kind that’s like marshmallow.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | October 16, 2022 11:20 PM |
Agree with R2. Switch out the meringue for whipped cream and you have a winner.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | October 16, 2022 11:20 PM |
Best fruit pie: tart cherry
Best cream pie: chocolate cream
by Anonymous | reply 5 | October 16, 2022 11:21 PM |
Love this and banoffee pie
by Anonymous | reply 6 | October 16, 2022 11:22 PM |
R5 is my taste twin!
I do really like lemon meringue pie, but it's generally too sweet for me.

Triggered
by Anonymous | reply 8 | October 16, 2022 11:24 PM |
Just eat lemon curd. And lemon bars are superior.
And best pie is coconut cream
by Anonymous | reply 9 | October 16, 2022 11:29 PM |
I tried to make it once and the taste was off. I used the recipe in the Joy of Cooking
by Anonymous | reply 10 | October 16, 2022 11:31 PM |
My favorite is apple pie and this simple dessert is harder than it looks to get just right...
Its the crust thats usually a ruin
by Anonymous | reply 11 | October 16, 2022 11:33 PM |
Not as long as there is pecan pie in the world!
Lemon meringue pie is up there, though.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | October 16, 2022 11:35 PM |
This "pie" made people really mad on Twitter last night
by Anonymous | reply 13 | October 16, 2022 11:37 PM |
Damn, R13. What a piece of crap that is. "Mah keeds, mah keeds, mah keeds"; STFU about how your keeds lahk it. Of course they do! It's a compote of salty, fatty processed foods. And there's nothing noteworthy about "liking cheese." I wonder how quickly those kids are inhaling that pie that they (supposedly) don't notice there are vegetables in there.
I guess I got pretty mad about it, too.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | October 16, 2022 11:45 PM |
Didn't know Grandma Manson worked with anything but sausage.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | October 16, 2022 11:47 PM |
R14 again. After listening to the whole thing, I get the feeling that she's putting on that accent. Most of the time she sounds un-Southern.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | October 16, 2022 11:48 PM |
I much prefer hair pie.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | October 16, 2022 11:53 PM |
I’d rather have a homemade jelly roll with very tangy rich homemade lemon curd rolled up in it, but you need fresh lemons 🍋 from a friend
by Anonymous | reply 18 | October 17, 2022 12:08 AM |
You are correct, OP. And it has to be topped with REAL meringue not that whipped cotton stuff. My mom made the best lemon meringue pie, always browning the meringue under the broiler for a minute. Yum!
by Anonymous | reply 19 | October 17, 2022 12:10 AM |
I love how easy meringue is to make if you have a stand-mixer. Just toss cold egg whites in the bowl with sugar and mix on high until stiff peaks form. (I've never needed to use cream of tartar).
by Anonymous | reply 20 | October 17, 2022 12:17 AM |
Key lime pie!
by Anonymous | reply 21 | October 17, 2022 12:19 AM |
Love lemon meringue and key lime. I have a thing for anything citrusy. I make a lemon trifle every xmas that is to die for.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | October 17, 2022 12:31 AM |
Nothing really approaches key lime for me, but if something could, then, yes, it’d be a lemon tart.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | October 17, 2022 12:37 AM |
Lemon meringue is good but of course banana cream is better.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | October 17, 2022 12:53 AM |
They're all good, sweetie pie. Real lemon meringue is godly
by Anonymous | reply 25 | October 17, 2022 1:13 AM |
Tangy
by Anonymous | reply 26 | October 17, 2022 1:14 AM |
It is delicious.

Very few people can make a good lemon meringue pie. VERY FEW
by Anonymous | reply 29 | October 17, 2022 1:32 AM |
Never tried rhubarb but the next time I make it to the farmers market I will look for the stuff
by Anonymous | reply 30 | October 17, 2022 1:33 AM |
My mom made a good lemon meringue pie, good crust. But I would’ve preferred a denser meringue.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | October 17, 2022 1:34 AM |
I once tried making a pomegranate juice meringue pie and it was a disaster. Maybe that's why don't we ever hear about any other kind of fruit-meringue pie?
by Anonymous | reply 32 | October 17, 2022 1:35 AM |
Best cream pie is chocalate haupia!
by Anonymous | reply 33 | October 17, 2022 1:39 AM |
Another one who hates the meringue part. I like my lemon pies tart as fuck and that jizz just gets in the way.
My very favorite pie is mince pie with a good amount of booze in it like god intended
I have never met a blackberry pie I didn't fall in love with.
OH GOD I AM A STARVING FAT WHORE!

[quote]I love how easy meringue is to make if you have a stand-mixer. Just toss cold egg whites in the bowl with sugar and mix on high until stiff peaks form
Egg whites should be room temp.
CREAM you whip cold.

Every time lemon meringue is mentioned I think of the pie in this movie
by Anonymous | reply 36 | October 17, 2022 1:56 AM |
It's a nice, light pie...not as heavy as other pies. I love a good apple, blueberry or pumpkin (holiday time) pie.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | October 17, 2022 1:59 AM |
R9 is correct
by Anonymous | reply 38 | October 17, 2022 2:05 AM |
Did you put eggs in your pomegranates to make a curd for the pie? Just wondering what went wrong. I’d eat a pomegranate pie..sounds Inneresting!
by Anonymous | reply 39 | October 17, 2022 2:32 AM |
R39, I used Pom Juice instead of lemon juice, thinking it would have a similarly sharp, tart, distinct flavor, but the pomegranate flavor just got lost and muddled. It also came out a very unappealing dull purple color.
I might try again with half-lemon, half-pom, and food coloring.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | October 17, 2022 2:47 AM |
food coloring?
by Anonymous | reply 41 | October 17, 2022 3:16 AM |
R40 I first read that as “poon juice” 😳
by Anonymous | reply 42 | October 17, 2022 3:17 AM |
Best curd is passionfruit.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | October 17, 2022 3:21 AM |
Lemon Meringue pie is a nice dessert for the Spring (Easter) and Summer. The fall and winter ? That's when you eat Chocolate Cream, Apple, or Fruits of the Forest.
[R13] The only thing she forgot to add to that pie is her vomit. God, that was gross !
by Anonymous | reply 44 | October 17, 2022 3:30 AM |
It's my mom's favorite dessert and she always made it when I was a kid. I love lemon-based desserts and baked goods, but lemon meringue pie has never been a favorite of mine. I will eat it, but pretty much only because I enjoy the lemon flavor.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | October 17, 2022 3:34 AM |
Lemon meringue is a stand out. I love lemon squares, too. Ones with some zest.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | October 17, 2022 5:16 AM |
It's just ok
by Anonymous | reply 48 | October 17, 2022 5:56 PM |
Lemon Meringue Pie is great. Rhubarb Pie is great. Gooseberry Pie is great. All three have that wonderful sharp tart-sweet tang.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | October 17, 2022 6:03 PM |
Ummm! Pie!
by Anonymous | reply 50 | October 17, 2022 6:56 PM |
Has anyone ever had 'Fruits of the Forest' ? It's very popular in New England for Thanksgiving - New Year's.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | October 18, 2022 4:37 PM |
If you love a good pie crust, this show is a must. 55 minutes. And yes, they feature lemon meringue.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | October 21, 2022 2:25 AM |
Hair pie is BETTAH!
by Anonymous | reply 53 | October 21, 2022 2:34 AM |
Lemon meringue pie and cheese soufflé are the only two things I can cook that I'm proud of.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | October 21, 2022 2:37 AM |
A cheese souffle looks daunting R54
by Anonymous | reply 55 | October 25, 2022 5:55 AM |
I like lemon meringue but don't love it. Whenever I've had its been a little too intensely flavoured for me. I prefer pecan.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | October 25, 2022 6:08 AM |
No, key lime is better you stupid bitch.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | October 25, 2022 6:11 AM |
I did not know lemon meringue pie was a Philadelphia invention.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | October 25, 2022 6:14 AM |
R58, hard to believe it, but Philadelphia is one of the great American culinary cities, with a reputation for fine food that predated the American Revolution. "Philadelphia" brand cream cheese was called that not because it was invented in Philadelphia but because the owners fo the company wanted to stress that a Philadelphia household would deign it worthy of their table.
R55, next time I make a soufflé, I'll post the recipe. It's a shockingly simple one - a matter of paying precise attention to measurements and times. I've only once had a fail.
Unlike my beef stew, which is shoe-leather surprise no matter what I do.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | October 25, 2022 6:47 AM |
Pie is so very common.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | October 25, 2022 7:22 AM |
Yes, I love it and coconut cream pie.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | October 25, 2022 11:46 AM |
Too sweet.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | October 25, 2022 12:12 PM |
There is something so comforting about a homemade pie. The sloppier the better. I don’t know what it is but pie can instantly soothe me. Just having one around.
But processed pies don’t give me this feeling. Nothing else does but a fresh sloppy pie.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | October 25, 2022 12:14 PM |
Chocolate pies are my fave and it’s very rare that I indulge but love those. Lemon is up there though.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | October 25, 2022 12:15 PM |
No- much prefer fruit pies with well made crusts. To each his/her own.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | October 25, 2022 12:31 PM |
R12- Pecan pie 🥧 with Whipped Cream.
Yum 🤤
by Anonymous | reply 66 | October 25, 2022 12:44 PM |
Not a fan of meringue, but I'll eat it if it's "hidden." My favorite lemon pie is Lemon CHIFFON pie. You still have to make a meringue, but it gets folded into the yolk mixture, then it goes into the fully-baked pie shell. The meringue isn't as noticeable( or objectionable IMHO) when the pie is made this way. It is topped with whipped cream, so you do get some of the ethereal quality of the usual, on top meringue.
r46 Lemon Squares are terrific. I like the filling to be very firm, so I use flour plus cornstarch to thicken it. You cannot put too much lemon rind in the filling, AFAIC, and since it usually takes 2 lemons to get 1/2cup of juice, I use the zest from both lemons. VERY tangy.
LMP in diners and restaurants are usually a disappointment, since they are invariably flavored with lemon extract which can be quite harsh.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | October 25, 2022 1:33 PM |
I am another who dislikes meringue, so I just make it a Lemon Cream Pie instead.
When making cream pies (including chocolate and coconut cream), I find that just plain whipping cream is too light a topping, and often slides out of position on top of the pie. I make it a little more dense by whipping the cream with a small package of cream cheese, some powdered sugar, and a dash of vanilla extract. This topping holds its shape and stays in position, and I think it tastes better too.
