If there really was a deep state, or some group of patriots who swear to keep America safe from all enemies, Roger Stone and Steve Bannon would have been disappeared years ago. Bannon goes all over the world trying to destroy democracy, and Stone has been a festering cancer upon this country since Watergate. And yet both walk free and do whatever they want.

So Pelosi is much smarter than I gave her credit for, or rather perhaps she was seen being as smart as she is said to be, in the footage. (At her press conferences she tries to show off and she doesn't have the skill.) But she's one hell of legislator... she wasn't just working those phones but she knew how and why. Smart woman. The benefit of experience.
Even so she fucking cracked me up because it was no accident she said "at the instigation of the President of the United States" every chance she got. Of course part of it was just twisting the knife, but I'd bet money she knew those cameras were rolling and this could be evidence and she wanted to give them as much as possible.
Did you see that wild dog ordering the cops to bring her out? Assuming she's not in jail, does that lunatic not see now how wrong she was, about everything? Is someone in her circle of the semi-educated saying Tiffany, that wasn't a good look, you know?

Nancy's demeanor and performance were glorious! An example of true leadership and strength. More news outlets are beginning to pick up the footage and probably in another hour or two the commentaries about her leadership will be hitting the wires. She will get nothing less than positive press because of it. This will thwart the naysayers about her abilities to perform and make the right (more like the Right-Less white males) hate her even more.

Stanley Brand knows what he's talking about.
[quote] Stanley Brand, former counsel to the House of Representatives, said there are few precedents for congressional subpoenas to sitting or former presidents. āIt raises a host of issues, constitutional and otherwise. Beyond the merits and the question of subpoenaing a former president, how are you ever going to enforce it?ā he said, describing the move as largely āsymbolicā and unlikely to be enforced before the committee is disbanded.
Gillers opines:
[quote] Stephen Gillers, a professor of constitutional law at New York University, said he, too, believed it was improbable the subpoena would be enforced. Still, he viewed the move as a āformal invitationā to Trump to respond to the committeeās findings before it concludes its work.

by Anonymous | reply 112 | October 14, 2022 9:37 AM |
Well, now we know where they went. They were at Fort Mc Nair. I was worried when it was going on that the Speaker and other members were sheltering at the Capitol. It is a huge complex, and such things are possible. Pence was there. But fortunately they sheltered on a military base.
We know the Proud Boys and Oathkeepers were the key leaders during the insurrection, and that they egged on that mob of thousands. I am reading Jonathan Karl's book, and it tracks almost exactly with what happened today at the hearing. He also added that ABC News had a correspondent who attended every single Trump Rally in 2020 and he said their absolute obssession with Trump and their belief in him convinced them the election was stolen. The reporter said he was not at all suprised that they believed the election was stolen because these people were crazy with their Trump love. Very Hitlerian.

Trump is maga. If you watched the hearing you saw footage of Trump stating the Dominion voting system allows for deliberate fraud.
by Anonymous | reply 115 | October 14, 2022 10:47 AM |
Just remember that with Trump he projects a lot, and if there was any chance he could have manipulated those voting machines to vote for him instead of Biden he would do it. there has been evidence and footage of his election deniers going in and stealing information off machines. They didn't change votes but they did take secure information on voters.
The one thing that struck me repeatedly as I watched Schumer, Pelosi, et al in their secure location, is how lacking in urgency the people they spoke to were in their response to urgent requests for help. They were met with double talk and "I'll have to talk to my boss" or "we're working on a plan" etc. I had to wonder how the White House would have reacted, if some of the members of Congress who were still inside the capitol had been killed by that mob...while they were waiting to talk to their boss or "working on a plan..." Rotten fuckers. They all need to be fired.

I'm just now listening to "Morning Joe" this morning and a VERY important point was made. It hasn't even been made here. Republicans (ie Steve Scalise, et alia) have held press conferences, etc pushing a lie about why didn't Nancy Pelosi do something and we now know that many of them were right there in the room while she was on an open telephone trying to take action. The Republicans have been LYING for a year about something that they KNOW wasn't true.

I thought that too; some of these people (Rosen at DOJ) were clearly in the tank for Trump, but I do remember an interview with Larry Hogan afterwards when they called him & he said he'd do what they asked, but the MD NG isn't a quick reaction force. So while some of these people were clearly in on it, others were not in a position to give them the quick reaction they needed.

Gotta say the MSNBC evening summaries have been truly outstanding.
Even as a politics junkie I find myself zoning out from the volume of information. The news analysts have been doing a great job highlighting the essentials.

We have left no doubt, none, that Donald Trump led an effort to upend American democracy that directly resulted in the violence of January 6th. Trump is not above the law!

The thing is as R126 points out, Hogan and others couldn't react rapidly bbecauseb the NG had to be called in from whereever they lived, and then muster and deploy. Now the rapid response team was the U.S. military, and they were in a position to respond immediately, but the Department of Defense, Miller (and Michael Flynn's brother) were not about to give the order. In fact they probably deliberately blocked a response. stalling, etc.

You know everyone has practically canonized Liz Cheney, and I agree she has served a purpose. But anyone who doesn't recognize that this is very personal with her is missing the point. She voted with Trump 96% of the time, she accomodated the House Republican leadership, McCarthy et al, and worked as part of that team until everything unravelled for her. She was publicly humiliated and embarrassed by them, Trump included, and she had a choice of fighting back or crawling back to Wyoming. Well, Cheneys don't crawl. Just sayin'. Does anyone remember when or why things soured between her and Trump and the House leaders?
by Anonymous | reply 146 | October 17, 2022 4:06 AM |
^I think that's a fair point, though she could be like someone like Ben Sasse who fancies that he's some independent thinker, but when it comes down to it, he falls in line. No doubt a lot of it with her is due to stubbornness, arrogance and and (understandable) unwillingness to bend the knee to a stupid, pathetic lickspittle McCarthy. Whatever her reasons, I love her desire to full "dracarys" and burn down the repigs.
by Anonymous | reply 147 | October 17, 2022 10:17 AM |
No, nobody has lost sight of Liz Cheney being a very, very conservative Republican.

She was a bad face to pick for this.
by Anonymous | reply 149 | October 17, 2022 12:35 PM |
Actually, I think she was the right face to pick for this. Having a conservative Republican present this case, basically turning against the Trump-GOP, makes more of an impact than if a moderate Republican did it.
by Anonymous | reply 150 | October 17, 2022 2:32 PM |
She is mightily unpopular with Republicans.
by Anonymous | reply 151 | October 17, 2022 2:36 PM |
R151, was she unpopular before these hearings? Or did this turn them against her?
by Anonymous | reply 152 | October 17, 2022 2:50 PM |
She turned on Trump completely after January 6, being among those Republicans who voted to impeach him for his actions. Once she dared to cross the Divine Leader, her standing with the Republican base in very red Wyoming plummeted. At that point she didn't have two shits to give and went all in with this Committee. She's down for the time being, but not out. At some point she might run as an Independent like Evan McMullin in UT, and he's basically a right-wing Republican who just isn't as far-right like that asswipe Mike Lee.
by Anonymous | reply 153 | October 17, 2022 3:13 PM |
As riveting as this summary was, the Committee lost a lot of momentum in terms of reaching the same audience level as it had over the summer. That two-month break pushed all this to the back of many people's minds and, I'm afraid, just comes off like a re-run of the summer hearings. I know a goodly number of people who watched/listened to each of the hearings over the summer and either weren't aware of this one or forgot about it after the scheduling.
The NYT this morning has a story about the GOP gaining back an edge for the mid-terms due to an increase in voters naming the economy as the #1 issue. Abortion peaked over the summer. January 6 as well. Candidates don't want Joe Biden campaigning for them (they're happy having Jill Biden help out however). That moron Herschell Walker didn't crash and burn in his debate, even though he's inarticulate (but so is Trump). Stacey Abrams doesn't seem likely to beat Kemp right now.
I was more positive about the Democrats keeping the Senate and maybe even the House but I'm no longer as hopeful. C.J. Vance will probably win in OH. God help us if Dr. Oz wins in PA, but that's a tossup. That crazy Kari Lake is likely to be the next Governor or AZ (she'll make that trashy racist Jan Brewer look downright wonderful in comparison) as Katie Hobbs is running a very lackluster campaign. Lake is a media-savvy personality and Hobbs clearly isn't. If the GOP takes the House, it'll be MTG vs. McCarthy for the Leader spot (and even if McCarthy prevails, he'll have to give MTG a lot of power as a concession).

^You may be right right R154 and while people have notoriously short attention spans (good lord, gas goes up & everyone loses their shit), I also think the extent to which Roe energized the youth vote is underestimated. Yes, we say that every election & those damn kids still don't show up, but anecdotally speaking, my lazy, self-centered 20-something nieces seemed generally alarmed by the overturn of Roe & the downstream impacts. I think for a long time no one actually thought they'd do it & now that they did, I think it opened more eyes than people realized.

MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace started her show Monday with an exclusive bit of information that FBI field offices are staffed with agents miffed over the prosecutions of the Jan. 6 attackers, feeling that what they did was nothing more than misdemeanors. It was reported last week by NBC News that one former FBI official sent a letter to Paul Abbate, who is now the No. 2 official at the bureau.
According to the former official speaking to Wallace, the agents in field offices don't think prosecuting the Jan. 6 defendants is all that important, but they're doing it anyway.
"Resistance that does not amount to outright refusal, but rather complaining about the focus on Jan. 6th when many of the cases being prosecuted are misdemeanors," she said of the official. "This official tells us they keep repeating talking points and that the violence from the Black Lives Matter protests is not being taken as seriously as the Jan. 6 attack."

These agents should be immediately fired. I don't condone any of the violence. But, if one cannot easily see and know the differences between the BLM protests/riots and Jan 6th, then those people should be no where near our government and/or holding any type of government job. I'm SO tired of the right-wing trying to push this BULL SHIT and their sympathizers like R160 and R161 aiding and abetting their efforts. I DON'T CARE IF THE STORY APPEARS ON RAWSTORY! Bull shit is still just shit!
So, let's see if we can all get on the same page here with this: BLM was protesting and rioting against the wantonly killing of Black people--particularly Black men. They protested and rioted because they wanted it STOPPED! The demand was for police forces throughout the nation to STOP IT and reform! While the purpose of the Jan 6th mess was the overthrow the whole United States government and install their chosen person as the leader of the USA. How are these two events comparable?

How is posting an article "aiding and abetting," and what exactly is being aided and abetted?
I made zero commentary on the content of the article, but had you asked my opinion rather than all caps accused me of some type of agenda, I would have told you that I agree these agents should be relieved of their duties.
I'm well aware what the BLM protests were about. I had helicopters flying outside my windows the entire summer of 2020.

I can't get over how dense and deliberately clueless the American people are. It is clear and obvious to many of us that this is a slow rolling Coup. It is still going on. And what is really important to see is that it has many layers and a lot of tentacles. A Vast network. It includes law enforcement, the military, thge courts and government workers. It is Federal, state and local. It has taken over state politicalparty organizations, law firms are involved and a lot of money is behind this. Militias, Oathkeepers, Proud Boys, etc. tip of the iceberg. If we are going to get rid of it root and stem we need to more with urgency, those insurrectionists should have been loaded into busses and shipped to an army base and held prisoner until they stood before a judge for sentencing. Huge fines, job loss, and black listed so they were pariahs in the communities they came from. And bank accounts and assets should have been seized. No way should trump be out here approaching election deniers and planning his attacks on the 2022 midterm results.
