He was big in the '70s. Then disappeared. What happened? I really had the hots for him as a 15-year-old.

Going to be at the CHILLER show in Jersey at the end of the month.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | October 12, 2022 5:40 PM |
r1 omg that makes me so sad....
by Anonymous | reply 2 | October 12, 2022 5:45 PM |
Unlike many of the others appearing at Chiller Theater, his notice doesn’t include a recent pic. I seem to recall him aging particularly poorly.
Leonard Whiting from Romeo and Juliet will also attend the event. How many gay oldsters are going to tell Leonard how much they creamed over his creamy white body.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | October 12, 2022 5:48 PM |
He turned seventeen.

How much do these entertainers make at these conventions? Do they put them up at a nearby motel?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | October 12, 2022 6:10 PM |
That's terrifying, r5.
James at 116.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | October 12, 2022 6:10 PM |
Roddy McDowell used to get $500.........he would hire a limo to take him to/from the event so that no one could see his Honda Accord....they would put him up in a local holiday inn-type motel, but he had to drive himself to the hotel to/from his home.........per his autobiography............
by Anonymous | reply 9 | October 12, 2022 6:28 PM |
CHILLER is the best. Don't knock if you haven't been there. It's nothing but a good time. No different than a sports show where fans line up to have a football or baseball signed by their favorite player.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | October 12, 2022 6:33 PM |
[quote] Roddy McDowell used to get $500.
Keep in mind that with inflation that was probably went a lot further back in his day.

if so, I wonder if they all hang out there, so Linda Blair goes swimming with Neve Campbell.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | October 12, 2022 6:37 PM |
I thought Neve tended to swim with the exwife of that 2 1/2 Men guy?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | October 12, 2022 6:44 PM |
I’ve wanted to go to one of these things. I won’t.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | October 12, 2022 7:17 PM |
Will Kristy MacNichol be joining him as the convention?
by Anonymous | reply 15 | October 12, 2022 7:19 PM |
Did Hollywood just shit all over these people, or do they do it for the ego boost? I can't believe Dee Wallace or Henry Thomas or Tom Atkins or most of these people aren't hired for a variety of projects.

The "talent" makes its money off of signatures (will you sign my xyz?) and hawking merch related to their claim to fame.
The SciFi people, no matter how minor, can clean up.
And I'd rather fuck Lance Kerwin over cousin Oliver, So there's that.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | October 12, 2022 7:24 PM |
Will Froy be there signing Teen Wolf and new Hocus Pocus 2 mech?

I think Lance may have partied too much and then accepted Christ as his personal lord and savior and became a pastor in Maui. He and his wife were arrested for fraud some time back.

He was good-looking in a very unusual way when he was young. He was also surprisingly gifted for his age--he was pretty much to the 70s what Claire Danes was to the 90s.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | October 12, 2022 10:44 PM |
Do old Gay porn stars show up at these conventions?
by Anonymous | reply 27 | October 12, 2022 11:24 PM |
If you set aside the fact that he used to be a fresh-faced teen idol, he's sort of doable in an "elderly John Waters trade" or "recurring character on [italic]Breaking Bad[/italic]" way.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | October 12, 2022 11:30 PM |
Gosh, only $500 for a Roddy McDowell appearance? I heard his costar Lassie got at least $2000 to shake paw at Vegas
by Anonymous | reply 29 | October 12, 2022 11:56 PM |
I don't get the "he was so good looking" fuss.
He looks like a slightly more butch Jodie Foster.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | October 13, 2022 12:14 AM |
It was the 70s, you had to be there. And Lief looked more like Jodie.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | October 13, 2022 12:18 AM |
He was the Claire Danes of my generation —you get my drift. The series did not last long, but it sure did hit home.

I had such a crush on him back then, but then again, who didnt ? Id still do him now,in memorian of his former hotness . I loved his dimpled chin.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | October 13, 2022 12:26 AM |
Was there an episode about masturbation or a wet dream, I seem to recall? Each one was like it’s own after school special where James learned an important life lesson.

In the 70s he was the good looking boy next door type that could act. In Hollywood it's about luck and getting the right gig, and then later getting another good gig.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | October 13, 2022 12:31 AM |
Lance had to be on Family at one point right? He’s perfect for that overwrought melodrama, maybe who Buddy lost her V-card to or something?
by Anonymous | reply 41 | October 13, 2022 12:34 AM |
I recently saw Lance on a 1981 episode of Trapper John, MD and a 1983 episode of Hotel.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | October 13, 2022 12:36 AM |
He's only five years older than me but in the picture in R5 he looks 25 years older than me.
Olivia Hussey will be at that thing in Jersey as well as Leonard Whiting, which lends it greater cachet.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | October 13, 2022 12:41 AM |
He had a brief cameo in the movie "Enemy Mine" (died early in the movie)
He became a RWNJ fundie bible-humper.
And then got bald and ugly.
He starred in an after school special with Chachi (who is also a RWNJ asshat now)
by Anonymous | reply 45 | October 13, 2022 12:43 AM |
R41 here! Found it! A very special thanksgiving episode at Willie’s farm where his parents were trying to strong arm him into selling. Lance played the stable boy and Buddy and he did go “looking for deer,” but I think she just came away with a chaste kiss and no loss of virginity.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | October 13, 2022 12:51 AM |
But! The Kerwin and MacNichol magic began ever earlier in the AfterSchool Special “Me and Dad’s New Wife,” with bonus actor Lief Garrett as well!

R35, Lance did a tv movie about being a teenage bed-wetter, based on Michael Landon's story, IIRC.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | October 13, 2022 1:18 AM |
He pinged from mars…I guess his choice was to come out, or become a fundie.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | October 13, 2022 1:22 AM |
I don't think Lance is a Christian RWNJ or he would be on the Trinity Broadcast Network constantly, like CRWNJ Kirk Cameron.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | October 13, 2022 1:25 AM |
My sister liked Lance Kerwin back in the day, the TV show, teen magazine pinups, etc. I preferred Andy Gibb. Sis always liked the non-threatening boyish types, I preferred the hairy masculine type who looked like they can hit it, and was a good roll in the hay. ;-)

They're dragging 91 year old Marla Gibbs to "Chiller" ? For what ? To give her an express ticket to join Angela Lansbury and Queen Elizabeth ? They may as well drag Barbara Walters there, too.
I bet in a few years we'll see Rachel Maddow hawking her memorabilia there for fans.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | October 13, 2022 1:35 AM |
You know r27, that's not a bad idea.
It would be fun to see what many of our "friends" are up to now and what they look like.

R26 Great analogy. I was 10 years old watching James as I had older sibs. I totally felt his angst. And then I was too old to be watching Angela on MSCL but I could also relate to her angst. They captured a moment in time for sure.

R26
R32 here: I didn’t steal your thought …but great minds and all that
by Anonymous | reply 58 | October 13, 2022 1:57 AM |
I also wonder how much the "celebrities" are paid to do these Chiller things. Some of the people on the list I would actually like to see, just because of personal memories -- Marla Gibbs is too good (and too old) to be slummin' it at this thing!
Most of the names on the list are just plain embarrassing. Dean Cain belongs at this, I think he is awful. And I feel sorry for Michael Fishman; he just got let go from The Connors, and now he is at the Chiller convention? They couldn't find a job for him behind the scenes, just to give him a little bit of dignity?
by Anonymous | reply 59 | October 13, 2022 2:09 AM |
He was such a gorgeous young lad, I have to wonder if he was ever "taken advantage of" by all the perverts in Hollywood. If so, it might help explain the hard turn to religion and abandonment of hollywood.

by Anonymous | reply 62 | October 13, 2022 2:25 AM |
Chiller looks awful, tacky, and sad, but I must say I would like to meet that Mary Poppins girl, Andrew Robinson from Dirty Harry (he played the killer), and the two actresses from the TV series Becker.

To watch her slay vampires using acrobatics like "Buffy," Rose.

I continue to be surprised that he didn't grow up to become David Hyde Pierce.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | October 13, 2022 5:11 AM |
I may be confusing with something else, but was his character James a bed wetter? I seem to recall an episode where his mother had hung his bedsheets out to dry from his bedroom window, embarrassing James when his friends saw it.
Chronic bed wetting was a topic for discussion back then. You don’t here much about it now.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | October 13, 2022 6:25 AM |
R52 It's what R21 said. He is indeed a born-again Xtian & he's made many appearances on the 700 Club over the years. I've never seen him on the big TBN show. Maybe they're too cheap to fly him in from Hawaii.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | October 13, 2022 7:00 AM |
R71 As said and linked above Michael Landon did a made for TV movie, the Loneliest Runner about growing up a bedwetter where Lance played him, and yes those scenes of his mom hanging the sheets out the window were devastating! Sarah Silverman wrote about her experiences of being a bedwetter into her teens, as did comic and actor Rob Delaney, who thanked her for coming forward in his book. The sleep over at friends sections were heart wrenching.
by Anonymous | reply 73 | October 13, 2022 7:06 AM |
R71 That wasn't an episode of James at 15, it was the TV movie The Loneliest Runner. Which was based on Michael Landon's childhood!
