From what I know, Drew Barrymore owns the rights to Barbarella because she fought for them 20 years ago when she was going to reboot it. I guess the rights were all over the place and she battled to legally secure it all for a movie.

Then Frank Rodriguez was going to reboot it with Rose McGowan and since then I think there was going to be a TV series that never went through too.

So I think it’s a long shot. Someone will write it and it’ll fall apart like always.

Also, all the Barbarella script reviews / summaries I’ve read were horrible. I read a summary of the Drew Barrymore script, it was horrible and I read a review of the Rose McGowan script and the reviewer said it was horrible (and it sounded horrible too).

The problem is with Barbarella is she has no world. The world and characters outside of her are really weak. A lot of the writers just write out of their imagination and out of their ass because they have not much material to draw from.
