I think that a sandwich without mayo in some form is not worth eating. Russian/Thousand Island dressing counts as "in some form". That's what I have on corned beef sandwiches, along with cole slaw, which has mayo in it as well.

I sprinkle sugar on most homemade or fancy gourmet store fruit pies. They're not sweet enough for me otherwise. (Mrs. Smith's pies do not require extra sugar.)

I don't especially like garlic. I leave it out of homemade dishes and avoid eat-in and carryout foods that are too garlicky.

To clarify: I'm not really ashamed of these things. I'm embarrassed to admit them. Shame would imply that I think they're wrong. Actually, I think they're perfectly OK but realize they will be mocked by many.

Further; in my experience and understanding, the most damage done to our societies and civilisations to date has come from the hearts, minds and hands of males—maybe because they were the only ones with the power so to do, but nevertheless.

That I have an opinion that differs. It use to be when you respectfully disagreed with a person they listened to why. But today I find when I a disagree a look comes over the face of the other: “ How dare you disagree with me!” It’s not political, more generational perhaps. I think this is especially true with younger people, who seem intensely conflict-avoidant to me. I am not a battler. Today it seems as though many people become terrified or shut down entirely if you express disagreement.

I see this as part of the "Karen" phenomenon, in which people are made to feel guilty or even ashamed for complaining about legitimate lapses in service.

R63, I don't think that is anything to be ashamed of. Their behavior is unpredictable and in some instances violent. Yet you're supposed to sit there and act like you don't see their weird behavior. They may do something super crazy at any moment, causing you to defend yourself and then you have to worry about receiving the scorn of everyone in the room for not being compassionate enough. I don't blame you. I am uneasy around them too.

I contracted Hep C about 15 yrs back immediately following sustaining a deep cut I got while filling up my tank (long story). I’ve always been a goody two shoes & had barely even smoked pot. When my dr told me I was positive, he asked if I was an IV drug user. I didn’t even bother to tell him how I’d most likely gotten it.

Luckily for me, my immune system fought it off (which happens about 15% of the time), though I didn’t know this for about 8 yrs, & never touched a drop of alcohol during this time. I still test positive for antibodies (as with any virus).

I’ve only told a handful of people—my parents & about 5 close friends. Even my sister doesn’t know, & she works in the medical field.

Around the time I was infected I’d heard about friends of friends getting this, & even saw a news story about a woman who’d caught it from sharing a toothbrush. I sat in judgment at the time & figured they were all junkies. When I tested positive I felt enormous guilt & shame for prejudging people, & am a much more empathetic person for having gone through this. I guess that’s the closest thing to a silver lining to be gained from this experience.
