Pete Townshend was the only one who actually pissed on the monolith (they used coffee to create the other stains).

The monolith is supposed to be a reference to "2001; A Space Odyssey" for no good reason other than that Keith Moon and Pete Entwhistle were obsessed with it at the time they made the cover.

I know most on here are probably not familiar but this classic from Aaliyah in the NYC subway simply evokes 90s coolness. It's like The Matrix meets r&b.
