Julia Roberts is back to rule rom-coms

The queen is back! Her Ticket to Paradise is a hit already internationally. It will release in the US after 2 weeks.

The reviews are mixed to positive but Roberts' movies are known to defy critics ratings.

Someone check on Billy

by Anonymousreply 1October 9, 2022 6:14 PM

Her 15 minutes were up 10 years ago...

by Anonymousreply 2October 9, 2022 6:14 PM

Gag! I just don't get the appeal. I have this friend who is into death metal and punk, is a bartender at a seedy, leather inspired gay bar, is all about being "barely gay" and cannot wait to see this. I was like, "what?!?!?".

by Anonymousreply 3October 9, 2022 6:15 PM

R3 Well to be fair, no self respecting gay would see this film so he is right about being barley gay.

by Anonymousreply 4October 9, 2022 6:16 PM

They make a handsome couple.

by Anonymousreply 5October 9, 2022 6:17 PM

Can't stand syrupy screwball dreck like this film appears to be, and find Julia Supersmiley Roberts deeply annoying and fake onscreen.

Julia's mad wild niece(?) Emma is so much more entertaining and believable. And she has much more gay/camp appeal, especially in Scream Queens.

Princess George is so gay and Horse Teeth Roberts is such a shitty actress. They have no chemistry together. She deserves a lifetime Razzy for her film work.

by Anonymousreply 7October 9, 2022 6:55 PM

Rom coms for who? The AARP crowd?

by Anonymousreply 8October 9, 2022 7:02 PM

I laughed more during the 4 minute preview of this flick than I did the entire 2+ hours of "Bros."

by Anonymousreply 9October 9, 2022 7:03 PM

I like Julia Roberts. So fuck all you haters.

by Anonymousreply 10October 9, 2022 7:04 PM

Love her, can just about tolerate him. Fact is, they’re superstars, and have the awards, money, and fan base to prove it.

by Anonymousreply 11October 9, 2022 7:05 PM

people who see movies will be interested

by Anonymousreply 12October 9, 2022 7:08 PM

[quote] Princess George is so gay and Horse Teeth Roberts is such a shitty actress. They have no chemistry together.

It's even hard to see why they're friends or why they're so often paired together onscreen, except that they're both rich and project insincerity.

by Anonymousreply 13October 9, 2022 7:10 PM

I was like, "what?!?!?".

R3 You sound retarded

by Anonymousreply 14October 9, 2022 7:12 PM

I will see this. Julia Roberts and George Clooney are like old friends you haven’t seen in awhile. These are STARS, folks.

I’m sure this will be a pleasant, diverting trifle to sneak into at a 2PM screening on a slow Friday and I’m expecting nothing more.

by Anonymousreply 15October 9, 2022 7:15 PM

I’ve never been a romcom film but at least with Julia Roberts that shit was watchable. She’s made a lot of trash watchable. I like her.

by Anonymousreply 16October 9, 2022 7:15 PM

[quote]Rom coms for who? The AARP crowd?

Why do you have a problem with that, r8?

by Anonymousreply 17October 9, 2022 7:17 PM

r7 r13 You are blind. Chemistry is the main reason they are often paired together. This is for you guys

R18 oh, please.

In the Oceans trilogy alone, Clooney has tenfold the chemistry with Brad Pitt than he does with Roberts.

The trailer is next-level horrendous. Why doesn't she just retire? She has plenty of money.

by Anonymousreply 20October 9, 2022 7:34 PM

Post-menopausal Julia Roberts is the NEW Diane Keaton!

by Anonymousreply 21October 9, 2022 7:38 PM

they're unwatchable. so much plastic surgery and fuckery. Yuck. and they are soooo BAD

by Anonymousreply 22October 9, 2022 7:40 PM

Move over, Meryl and Alec Baldwin.

She can be charming, but not often. Clooney should have retired. His holier than thou schtick is tired and off putting, and his conceit masquerading as comic relief is nauseating

by Anonymousreply 27October 9, 2022 9:50 PM

The fraus will eat this up

Anyone cam have bad taste, R3.

by Anonymousreply 29October 9, 2022 10:32 PM

Are we really that starved for decent entertainment that we're hungering for stupid ass romcoms again?

I saw the trailer too and I don't get what the fuss is about. The story is stupid and both look so long in the tooth and ridiculous. She needs to cut that hair and do something different with it. And George is verging into George Hamilton territory.

by Anonymousreply 30October 9, 2022 10:34 PM

[quote]Are we really that starved for decent entertainment that we're hungering for stupid ass romcoms again?

At least it isn't Marvel, r30. Just don't go see it.

by Anonymousreply 31October 10, 2022 12:43 AM

It seems Poo Shoes has finally left us. A George Clooney/Julia Roberts thread would have triggered a nuclear meltdown years ago.

by Anonymousreply 32October 10, 2022 2:50 AM

Julia was with Brad in his first ever public appearance after the plane incident and allegations in 2016. This was his first pic after months of hiding.

by Anonymousreply 34October 10, 2022 3:38 AM

The trailer was very 2004.

by Anonymousreply 35October 10, 2022 3:46 AM

So it already made more overseas than Viola's film domestically? Be prepared for St V to gave someone thing to say if it does well here in the States too. The Bros dude may never shut up again also.

by Anonymousreply 36October 10, 2022 3:50 AM

Have*

by Anonymousreply 37October 10, 2022 3:50 AM

So will we have to endure a publicity fest featuring Julia's manic laughter as she fondles George Clooney for the camera?

by Anonymousreply 38October 10, 2022 3:52 AM

I grew up in the 90s so I'm tempted for nostalgic reasons but I know it won't be the same.

by Anonymousreply 39October 10, 2022 3:54 AM

I'd go to matinee just for fun. Brainless entertainment

by Anonymousreply 40October 10, 2022 3:55 AM

Someone should be on standby to check on Meg Ryan when this film opens.

by Anonymousreply 41October 10, 2022 4:02 AM

R41 does she act at all anymore? I thought she retired.

by Anonymousreply 42October 10, 2022 4:04 AM

A Low Vera.

by Anonymousreply 43October 10, 2022 4:04 AM

So if it's a hit here as expected will America be racist AND homophobic?

by Anonymousreply 44October 10, 2022 5:03 AM

Most films these days are depressing Oscar-bait stories of absolutely miserable situations. I’m not sure if I’ll see this, but I welcome a return to more lighthearted frothy films. If I want to be depressed, I can stay home and watch the news. A bit of gentle escapism is okay with me.

by Anonymousreply 45October 10, 2022 5:53 AM

I miss Meg Ryan. Why don’t Meg and Julia team up together?

by Anonymousreply 46October 10, 2022 5:55 AM

Honey, have you seen Meg's face in the year 2022?

by Anonymousreply 47October 10, 2022 5:57 AM

R48 that is hilarious. And I'm not fully convinced it was accidental.

by Anonymousreply 49October 21, 2022 10:21 PM

Heterophilia is driving the box office triumph of this knife through the heart!

by Anonymousreply 50October 21, 2022 11:53 PM

R48 ha ha ha!! I'm sure the headline was accurate!

by Anonymousreply 51October 22, 2022 3:16 AM

Never realized until watching that Jane Pauley interview that Julia has a bit of an overbite.

by Anonymousreply 52October 22, 2022 3:34 AM

Meg Ryan was a better actress and far more likable than Julia Roberts on her best day. I would rather watch Meg's comeback.

by Anonymousreply 53October 22, 2022 3:39 AM

She really should've retired earlier and nobody would've blamed her. If she stopped working say ten years ago, she still would've left behind an outstanding career and her status as a once in a generation star for better or worse would be intact. The rom com schtick and the banter with George is so old and boring. How many fucking times do we have to hear about how they met on the set of Ocean's Eleven?

by Anonymousreply 54October 22, 2022 3:43 AM

Holy shit did anyone read the YouTube comments on that Jane Pauley interview? Julia's frau fan base is alive and well, it seems

by Anonymousreply 55October 22, 2022 4:07 AM

I liked how they were gushing over the fact that Julia stays out of politics, is a homemaker who knits, is a dedicated wife, and mother of three adorable kids, .etc. Julia knew what she was doing in that interview, and her fans were eating it up.

Julia's frau fanbase is what made her a superstar. She knows her demographics very well and how to pander to them.

by Anonymousreply 56October 22, 2022 4:11 AM

George and Julia are fucking vampires. Just will not go away.

by Anonymousreply 57October 22, 2022 5:08 AM

A character compares Julia's character to a horse!

I can't believe she let them go there!

by Anonymousreply 58October 23, 2022 10:18 AM

R58 Perhaps she has mellowed with age.

by Anonymousreply 59October 23, 2022 10:34 AM

The movie is deeply mediocre but I give Julia props for allowing the script to make a horseface joke at her expense.

by Anonymousreply 60November 5, 2022 9:24 PM

by Anonymousreply 64November 7, 2022 10:21 PM

She's revitalized this nation's box office!! BUMP^^

by Anonymousreply 65November 9, 2022 7:42 AM

Boring straight romcoms sell a lot. Middle-aged white fraus are the only ones going to see this because they're nostalgic for crappy 90s romcoms.

by Anonymousreply 66November 9, 2022 8:22 AM

OMG, their mugging on that poster or PR photo is the stuff of nightmares.

Julia, the zaftig cleavage look is not for you.

by Anonymousreply 67November 9, 2022 8:50 AM

R59 Even Julia knows she is horsefaced. That is no big industry secret. She might as well laugh at it all the way to the bank.

by Anonymousreply 68November 9, 2022 10:29 AM

I saw this as a wits-end, lesser-of-evils Friday-night choice in a packed big-city theater. The script was simply ghastly--the dullard stupidity of the supposedly zingy repartee between the "love-beneath-the-hate" divorced couple made you want to weep thinking of how far we've fallen from the dialogue this type of scenario got in scripts like "His Girl Friday" or "The Philadelphia Story." It was a sub-Nancy Myers vicarious vacay fantasy for the wistful plebes who will never make it to Bali.

But. Having said that. To be absolutely fair, Roberts and Clooney were not bad at all. They seemed equal to shining, if given a script that met some minimal standard of wit and intelligence. They have older-star charisma--people are talking about Roberts, but Clooney did pretty darn well at being a stodgy old fart with a heart beating someplace under there. There is chemistry between those two. Sexual chemistry--well, no. But they've been clowning around together for a long time, and there's an energy of enjoying each other that people clearly like. To my shock the crowded theater kept erupting in applause and cheers when the lovebird vibes started up.

by Anonymousreply 69November 16, 2022 1:09 AM

Many people just want to feel comfortable and happy with a movie [See: Movies, Hallmark TV], not challenged, scared, repulsed, impressed, or even dazzled.

George and Julia (for me, it's Richard Gere and Diane Lane) apparently offer that pleasant experience.

by Anonymousreply 70November 16, 2022 1:18 AM

Best Harriet Tubman EVER.

by Anonymousreply 71November 16, 2022 1:48 AM

Fuck all you hateful, judgmental, Marys. I finally saw this movie and I loved it. Would love to see an updated "Hart to Hart" with these two.

by Anonymousreply 72November 17, 2022 7:04 AM

Bump ^^^^^^

by Anonymousreply 73November 18, 2022 12:02 AM

Hollywood, hurry up and Green light that Clooney/Roberts "Hart to Hart" reboot!

by Anonymousreply 74November 18, 2022 7:20 AM

For me Julia is someone I just want to stop and look at. George just doesn't have that same star power.

by Anonymousreply 75November 30, 2022 6:58 AM

My 80 year old mother loves Julia Roberts, she definitely has a frau fanbase. I had to laugh when my Mom ended up seeing The Mexican, she didn't like Julia in it. My mom just thinks of her as Pretty Woman.

by Anonymousreply 76November 30, 2022 7:08 AM

I like how Julia looks with her darker natural hair and minimal make up, like in August Osage Country. I want her to try and go after a couple more great film roles, forget TV! I've been a fan since I was eleven, and still am, there aren't many actors or actresses left with true star presence, Julia is one of them.

by Anonymousreply 77November 30, 2022 7:47 AM

I liked this much more when it was called “It’s Complicated.”

by Anonymousreply 78December 24, 2022 4:56 AM

All this movie was missing was a dog and it could have easily been a Hallmark movie.
