Not true at all. Her career is fine. Mare of Easttown was excellent. She never was an A-list blockbuster movie actress and just seems more comfortable with smaller (indie) projects.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | October 9, 2022 5:19 PM |
I agree that's not true at all, OP. Her career has always been mostly about small independent films, and the only blockbuster she ever did was "Titanic." She's highly respected as one of the finest actresses in Hollywood.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | October 9, 2022 5:21 PM |
She did okay in 2011 but made too many shitty films, plus people were turned off by her desperation for an Oscar
by Anonymous | reply 3 | October 9, 2022 5:28 PM |
Her career is fine and she isa very good actress. Personality wise i was really disappointed with her inexplicable volte-face in respect of Woody Allen, after being an initial voice of support.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | October 9, 2022 5:33 PM |
She works as much as she wants. Loved her in Mare of Easttown. Don’t appreciate what a sour posh cunt she seems to be and think her habit of having a child with every man she slept with from 1995-2010 was very odd but whatever, I don’t have to prepare complicated flowcharts on school pickups, her assistant does.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | October 9, 2022 5:36 PM |
Yea it was the egregious Oscar campaign which see her win for her weakest nominated performance added to her complete 180 turn on Woody (due to the tide turning) that made me not care for her

The first time I recall seeing Kate Winslet on a movie screen was when she appeared in Titanic and I thought she was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen. She's a great actress too. Not a celebrity "actress." She's never harmed anyone. I don't get the hate some have for her, tbh.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | October 9, 2022 6:08 PM |
Didn't another A-list actor describe Kate as (I'm paraphrasing) 'hard to reach' or say she didn't 'give' much in scenes?
Not to say that I agree with that assessment, only that I seem to remember it being said of her.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | October 9, 2022 6:43 PM |
I don't know who that might have been, but I do remember that jowly, big nosed character with the awful grating voice in Family Guy refering to Kate Winslet as that "fat British actress from Titanic." I never thought of Winslet being fat. Maybe not Hollywood "no tits, only bones" thin as was the fashion in the 90s, but certainly not fat. I don't think that joke would fly now in today's era, especially as Winslet has spoken about her battles with eating disorders.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | October 9, 2022 6:53 PM |
She was always looking for roles which allowed her to go naked

She kinda lost her looks in her early 40s and is currently fat and plain looking - especially without make up and compared to other actresses her age who had some work done. But I love that she's real and did not fuck with her face. Aging just sucks for women over 40.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | October 9, 2022 7:01 PM |
I've not forgiven her for that dreadful and sadly perennial Xmas film, The Holiday. Ever winter without fail it's all over the telly, and everyone's Mum puts it on, and it's always absolutely unbearable. Kate's the best part about it, but she can't save it, bless.
She also sang (quite nicely) in that rather forgettable, pedestrian and pointless animated version of A Christmas Carol. She must be a festive sort.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | October 9, 2022 7:02 PM |
I love her. She's a genuine actress and person.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | October 9, 2022 7:07 PM |
Ridiculous thread. She’s won two Emmys and been nominated for another Oscar since. She works constantly in esteemed projects.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | October 9, 2022 7:33 PM |
R11, she's had cosmetic procedures. Her interventions are minimal compared to many of her peers but she's far from all-natural.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | October 9, 2022 7:36 PM |
R15 which procedures? You're right that they're remarkably subtle and minor.
She looks brilliant, and always has.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | October 9, 2022 7:37 PM |
She turned 40 and then Florence Pugh came along.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | October 9, 2022 7:38 PM |
Yes, she had cosmetic work done. A very subtle nose job, for one.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | October 9, 2022 7:40 PM |
I love her work. Nosejob, as R18 says. Light fillers, light botox. She's done it right. She wants to look better, not younger, which should be the guiding principle. She also smartly let the injectables rest before MoE. Better suited the character.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | October 9, 2022 7:44 PM |
The Titanic might have stayed afloat long enough for the Carpathia to arrive, but her fat ass aboard made in sink too fast.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | October 9, 2022 7:52 PM |
Wonderful actress!
by Anonymous | reply 21 | October 9, 2022 7:54 PM |
She could never make another film, all her films flop, or go off the deep end and join scientology and her all sins would be forgiven for making the masterpiece that is Titanic. Love her for life.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | October 9, 2022 7:56 PM |
She had kids and wanted to focus on being a mother and not big movies and going on location for long stretches of time.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | October 9, 2022 7:56 PM |
R23, smart woman. More of the attention seekers in hollywood should try it.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | October 9, 2022 7:59 PM |
R10 And we thank her for that.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | October 9, 2022 8:21 PM |
She just won an Emmy and a Golden Globe this year.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | October 9, 2022 8:22 PM |
She should have won the oscar for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind but they gave it to Hilary Swank for Million Dollar Baby. I disliked that movie and Swank's performance was nothing special, in my opinion.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | October 9, 2022 8:45 PM |
R27 I would say Imelda Staunton deserved the award that year for Vera Drake that year.
Winslet should have won for Sense and Sensibility over Mira Sorvino
by Anonymous | reply 28 | October 9, 2022 8:57 PM |
Kate is one of the Greats. I think she'll work - and be respected - well into her 80s, like Judi Dench and Maggie Smith.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | October 9, 2022 9:37 PM |
She's a legendary actress. Beloved by the public and well-respected by her peers in the industry. She's had great successes both on the silver screen and on TV with her prestige dramas like Mildred Pierce and Mare of Easttown.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | October 9, 2022 9:45 PM |
I know she was so pissed she didn't get an Oscar nod for that recent lesbian drama. She said something like "I ate that ginger clam for fucking nothing!"
by Anonymous | reply 31 | October 9, 2022 9:49 PM |
I would say the opposite, OP: that she has enjoyed more than excellent mileage on her career and her acting ability which is not so much bad as utterly, immediately unmemorable.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | October 9, 2022 9:56 PM |
She wasn't very great in Revolution Road.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | October 9, 2022 10:01 PM |
OMG OP! I Knoooooowww. How is she going to pay her rent? Actress (69 credits) Fake! (pre-production) Lee (filming) Lee Miller 2023Naya Legend of the Golden Dolphin (post-production) Cupid (voice) 2022Avatar: The Way of Water (post-production) Ronal
by Anonymous | reply 34 | October 10, 2022 1:59 AM |
R9 She is bigger than most Hollywood women for sure. But keep in mind the family guy writers, mainly MacFarlane, absolutely revile any woman who they don't see as a perfect 10, very young, and a size zero. They even hate the women who do have these qualities, but just go after them less frequently. The misogyny on that show is way beyond typical take my wife please comedy.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | October 10, 2022 2:13 AM |
OP is being silly. KW has been one of the most celebrated performers of her generation for the last thirty years. Her career was never in the shitter.

[quote]I do remember that jowly, big nosed character with the awful grating voice in Family Guy refering to Kate Winslet as that "fat British actress from Titanic."
Well, that's quite rude. I'm sure I said it out loud first.
Namaste.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | October 10, 2022 2:45 AM |
Just ask Alan Rickman about Miss Winslet...
by Anonymous | reply 38 | October 10, 2022 3:04 AM |
I remember the fat criticism Kate received during Titanic's box-office run. It's funny ..... people complain about Lizzo and her fat positivity movement, but do you want to go back to an era when a gorgeous, voluptuous Kate Winslet was considered fat?
by Anonymous | reply 39 | October 10, 2022 3:27 AM |
I somehow missed this thread but the Winslet discussion on the AnnE hate thread has brought here!
Kate is maybe my favorite leading actress of her age group. I love that she looks like a healthy, real woman - almost every single woman in Hollywood since the heroin chic era has looked like a malnourished skeletor, which is why she stood out. It is absolutely insane that she was even thought of as chubby or overweight - she was a size 6 in Titanic.
And she was never a blockbuster actress either except for Titanic, the majority of her work is in British prestige dramas or HBO films. She’s on a similar trajectory to Maggie Smith or Helen Mirren - she’ll work until she drops dead.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | October 20, 2022 4:17 PM |
Winslet should have won the Oscar for Sense And Sensibility over that ingrate Mira Sorvino, or else won for Titanic (although Dench is my pick that year). Helen Hunt = weakest BA winner of the 90s.
Winslet didn't really warrant a nomination for Iris, must have been a filler. She was also likely 5th place for Little Children. Would have been a deserving winner for Eternal Sunshine. The Reader was a messy performance in a bad movie, shame she won for that instead of her better work.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | October 20, 2022 5:34 PM |
She's probably my favorite actress. Or at least top five.
Pretty sure she just works when she wants.
I still contend that her performance in Eternal Sunshine is her best.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | October 20, 2022 9:48 PM |
She was great in that Polanski movie too.
Yes she should have won for Eternal Sunshine, she was amazing in that whacky movie, but she made it work. Great actress!
by Anonymous | reply 43 | October 24, 2022 12:05 PM |
The first choices for Titanic were McBongo and Goop. They would have been better casting.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | October 24, 2022 12:10 PM |
Right if Winslet wins for Eternal Sunshine, Nettie wins in 2010. Portman lied about doing most of her own dancing and that's why she won
by Anonymous | reply 45 | October 24, 2022 12:38 PM |
R44 How high are you?
by Anonymous | reply 46 | October 24, 2022 12:40 PM |
R45 Winslet wasn't nominated with them. Portman didn't win for dancing.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | October 24, 2022 1:05 PM |
R47 A sizable reason, according to some sources, that Portman received votes was people believing she had trained so hard and became a ballerina for the part. This was later shown to be misleading.
I am saying if Winslet wins in 04 when Nettie was second favorite to win, then she should win in 10 for The Kids Are All Right.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | October 24, 2022 2:19 PM |
Who the fuck is Nettie?
by Anonymous | reply 49 | October 24, 2022 2:54 PM |
She just seems weird to me. Her personality is off-putting, and her personal life seems like a mess. I feel the same way about Nicole Kidman.
She might be a decent actress, but I would never watch a movie just because she’s in it.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | October 24, 2022 2:59 PM |
Easy, her eyebrows are hideous and too dark.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | October 24, 2022 3:09 PM |
She should be made to face the wall for inflicting a movie called The Kids Are All Right on the world’s populace.
Every blogger, print editor, columnist, and political hack now uses that as a title for their insipid “observations.”
by Anonymous | reply 52 | October 24, 2022 3:11 PM |
Too into herself.
Ugly, frowning, old fashioned lip shape.
Obese.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | October 24, 2022 3:13 PM |
And don’t come at me about The Who.
The phrase did not appear with any regularity until that horrid film.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | October 24, 2022 3:15 PM |
R52 What the hell are you blabbering about? What does Kate Winslet has to do with The Kids Are All Right?
by Anonymous | reply 55 | October 24, 2022 4:58 PM |
We should be so unlucky to have shitty careers as Kate
by Anonymous | reply 56 | October 24, 2022 6:15 PM |
She's diligent. But somewhat lacking in feminine charm.
And she has none of the glamour that really made an actress a STAR of the highest caliber, back in my day.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | October 24, 2022 7:43 PM |
She’s brilliant in Mare of Eastown and very good in the little seen The Dressmaker.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | October 24, 2022 9:18 PM |
R58 she looked good next to Liam Hemsworth's abs
by Anonymous | reply 59 | October 24, 2022 9:21 PM |
A true English Rose
by Anonymous | reply 60 | October 24, 2022 9:24 PM |
R31 she's british so she would have called it a "ginger minge"
by Anonymous | reply 61 | October 25, 2022 11:35 AM |
R31 Did she really said that?
by Anonymous | reply 62 | October 25, 2022 11:39 AM |
She’s a hippopotamus.
