Anyone have experience in both countries for an informed comparison?
Who is more hapless, Labour in UK or the Dems in the US?

Labour dumped the workers for something far more politically profitable. Muslims.
The Dems dumped direction, leadership and common sense for something far more politically profitable. "Trans".

Woke politics in general is a gift to the Right. Since it’s essentially performative and self-reverential, it’s not surprising it’s almost the opposite of what a political strategy should be.
Society should by all means be accepting of difference and encourage striving toward that acceptance. But acceptance doesn’t mean establishing a tyranny of the exception over the rule.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | October 9, 2022 6:20 AM |
Keir Starmer won’t publicly back strikes for 2 main reasons
1. He’a going to be Prime Minister soon and will be dealing with the chaos the Tories left
2. There simply isn’t the money to give everyone the mmmmm pay rise they want
3. Starmer would only be responsible for the NHS in England. Nurses are also going to be striking in Scotland and Wales who have SNP and Wales governments.

I have always been aggravated by the Democrats, who can’t seem to stop war with each other. Biden was the only alternative to Bernie Sanders who could possibly beat him. Yes, they stopped Sanders, but in doing so, we had to vote for an inept old man who can’t stop tripping himself with his own feet.
Why can’t younger Democrats pull back the infighters and reset the conversation, bringing in new vigor to the party, people like Tim Ryan or Katie Porter or Sean Patrick Maloney.
Are they considered too inexperienced? Too early to be recognized? I am looking for an alternative to the disfunction within the party.
We needed it yesterday.

But the Dems aren't hapless. I know it's probably important to you to send that message, because you're a Magat F*gg*t, but our political representatives are kicking ass. The only time Magats ever win is when they cheat, bribe or steal elections.

Thank you R17. The relentless attacks on Corbyn -- who has devoted his life to combatting racism in all of its forms (including antisemitism) has been one of the most appalling things I've ever seen -- politically. I don't think the attacks were really linked to his support for Palestinians, rather he was too left of center for the press lords. Proof is that damning "The Labour Files" on Al-Jazeera hasn't been mentioned by any other newspaper. Loved the way that Angela Eagle's local labor party were attacked as being homophobic, just so she could run and not be de-selected.
Bernie Saunders would have been a wonderful president but he too was done in, less by the press than by the Democratic Party.
Starmer is a shameless shapeshifter who lies through his teeth. Better than Truss, of course. But still.

R29 And then there's reality. Corbyn/Labour were and are deplorably anti-Jew. The EHRC said so. The only thing you omitted is blaming the Tories for manipulating the Jews into targeting Corbyn.

Imagine calling yourself an "anti racist" and pushing a propaganda film by Al Jazeera, funded by the anti gay state of Qatar.
It's funny that in the same week Al Jazeera published it's "damning" investigation into Labour's disciplinary processes Corbyn supporting "Jewish Voice For Labour" run by some crank pensioners (Including swivel eyed loon Jenny Manson who has said she identifies as Jewish) apologised and paid libel damages to Martin Ware who made the Panorama film.
Now why would Jewish Voice for Labour pay damages when Al Jazeera "PROVED" the allegations of antisemitism were made up and claims fabricated?
The Jew hating cranks who supported Corbyn are just modern day Nazis.

Corbyn is Putin sympathiser. He defended Russia's invasion of Crimea in 2014 and blamed Russia's current invasion of Ukraine on NATO.
Corbyn has called for Ukraine to stop being given weapons by the US and Europe, he's accused the US and Europe of wanting to prolong the war.
The man is a total crank.
When Russia launched a chemical weapons attack in the Salisbury in 2018 Corbyn's initial response was to call for Russia to be given a sample of Novichok so they could say if was theirs.
The right wing media didn't make that up. And then there's his lifelong associations and friendships with people who've killed Jews, people who've tried to kill Jews, people who talk about killing Jews and people who don't want to kill Jews but just hate them.
Corbyn spent the weekend as part of a human chain to protest against the imprisonment of Julian Assange, the Russian asset who helped Trump win the election.
Honestly. Corbyn defenders are as pigshit thick as MAGA crowd.

Agreed, OP. What I found equally disturbing was the way that not only the Labour Party apparatchiks undermined Corbyn, but also that the Guardian consistently savaged him, using the issue of antisemitism to turn the knife. I cancelled my subscription in protest. Of course, Corbyn was woeful with Brexit, and a host of other issues. Bernie would have done much better. Still it makes me wonder if it is possible to elect a progressive given the state of the media today. I think perhaps not.

Poor Jeremy, being undermined by people who were repulsed by his support for Putin.
Poor Jeremy, allowing his office staff to interfere with the disciplinary process so his supporters who trawl neo nazi websites for Die Sturmer type images can evade suspension and attend conference
Poor Jeremy who got his chief of staff to cover up sexual harassment complaints against Jeremy's friends
Poor Jeremy who will never be a Labour Party candidate again.
But mostly poor you for not even feeling like you need to hide your contempt for Jews with your pathetic toadying to a failure of a man.

Jeremy Corbyn, of recent Labour leaders, is probably the closest to my views on economic, social and environmental policy. On other fairly obvious issues I disagree with him or disagreed with the way he dealt with the issues. However, he was never going to be PM. There was never a way he was going to persuade the centre ground to go that far to the left. However much anyone wishes differently it was never going to happen. Labour, in order to get elected, needed a more palatable leader. I think Keir Starmer is a dull, dreary man who could do with speaking up a bit more but then I don’t need to be entertained or even enthused about a leader. I just want somebody who is going to do the best they can for biggest number of people. I think he will likely be the next PM following a GE and I can live with that. I won’t be voting Labour where I am as it is pointless. Would I like somebody who swings more to the left absolutely but I will vote for those who are likely to unseat the Tories or any right winger.
