It also stars Leo DiCaprio. They now have to find a new big star to replace him.

Keanu seems like a really great person, but he is not a particularly good actor so this is probably for the best.

by Anonymousreply 1October 7, 2022 9:37 PM

Scorsese cast him, so he knew what he wanted to do with him r1

by Anonymousreply 2October 7, 2022 9:39 PM

Yes, but Scorsese also cast Cameron Diaz before so his casting is not always ideal. Keanu seems like a nice person and he can be sexy but he's no actor.

by Anonymousreply 3October 7, 2022 9:41 PM

Looks like Keanu got blepharoplasty.

by Anonymousreply 4October 7, 2022 9:42 PM

I think Billy Eichner is available

by Anonymousreply 5October 7, 2022 9:43 PM

R3 we don’t know what Scorsese planned for him. Who cares? You’re acting like you read the script

by Anonymousreply 6October 7, 2022 9:54 PM

From what I’ve heard Scorsese is more hands off with casting when he’s an exec producer and not directing (for example, he had no input in the casting for The Card Counter), so it’s a moot point.

by Anonymousreply 7October 7, 2022 9:58 PM

Scorsese has almost all say in any project he is passionate about. He had been trying to get this made for a few years now.

[quote]Sources say the Disney-backed streamer is already searching for a replacement star to lead the drama

I find my schedule is kinda open at this time...

by Anonymousreply 9October 7, 2022 10:13 PM

I’m sorry that Keanu dropped out, but I’m looking forward to seeing this.

This book is fantastic.

by Anonymousreply 10October 7, 2022 10:17 PM

I'm available for leading man parts.

And leading "man parts."

by Anonymousreply 11October 7, 2022 10:18 PM

I think Keanu's done enough Devil movies.

by Anonymousreply 12October 7, 2022 10:31 PM

I love the book, but there aren't any really good roles in the story apart from mass murderer H.H. Holmes, and Holmes should be played by someone young and Anglo.

So Keanu probably would have been playing a boring old architect or something, he wouldn't have Been a good fit for the production and vice versa.

by Anonymousreply 13October 7, 2022 11:20 PM

I hope Todd Field stays on as director, but this project seems cursed so he probably won't.

by Anonymousreply 14October 7, 2022 11:25 PM

NO to Todd Field. Clint Eastwood may be a prick but he'd be great directing this movie.

by Anonymousreply 15October 8, 2022 12:05 AM

R15 this is a series. Not a movie. It was originally a movie and never happened. It was changed to a limited series.

by Anonymousreply 16October 8, 2022 12:08 AM

I still want Keanu in me quite deeply.

by Anonymousreply 17October 8, 2022 12:11 AM

R16 Thanks. Ugh. I hoped it was a movie.

by Anonymousreply 18October 8, 2022 12:12 AM

R18 it was originally a movie when Martin Scorsese was going to direct. Plans fell through and it’s gone through numerous stages for over a decade now. As someone mentioned upthread, this seems doomed and like it will never be made.

Every time it seems things are finally coming together something else happens that keeps it from happening.

by Anonymousreply 19October 8, 2022 12:23 AM

“The show has been in the works for more than a decade, including a stint when it was envisioned as a feature film, with Sam Shaw (Hulu’s Castle Rock) on board as writer, showrunner and exec producer. DiCaprio and his Appian Way partner, Jennifer Davisson, exec produce alongside Scorsese. The latter was previously set to direct the feature film take that had been set up at Paramount Pictures with DiCaprio formerly set to star. Reeves — following months of dealmaking — was attached to star and exec produce the series that landed at Hulu for development in 2019. Todd Field is on board to direct the crime drama, which is now a co-production between Paramount Television Studios and Disney’s ABC Signature. Paramount Pictures won the rights to the novel following a massive bidding war in 2015, when Billy Ray was on board to pen the scripts.”

Over a decade later and they still can’t get it made? Maybe just let it go.

It's a good book, runner up for the Pulitzer that year. Too bad it can't be translated to film.

by Anonymousreply 21October 8, 2022 12:37 AM

DoCaprio would have been ideal casting for Holmes .. 20 years ago.

by Anonymousreply 22October 8, 2022 1:22 AM

He was cast to lead it when it was a film over 10 years ago.
