I heard her announce it on Kelly and Ryan this morning and I immediately Googled to see how old she is.
More power to her, I guess.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | October 5, 2022 7:57 PM |
@r1 48. But still. 😬
by Anonymous | reply 5 | October 5, 2022 7:58 PM |
Twin what? Lipizzaners?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | October 5, 2022 7:59 PM |
IVF, obviously. They put in two embryos hoping that at least one would be viable. They both are!
by Anonymous | reply 7 | October 5, 2022 8:00 PM |
IVF is expensive and results are not guaranteed.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | October 5, 2022 8:04 PM |
A friend of mine has a younger brother who was born when their mother was 48. He’s about 50 now - their parents definitely didn’t use IVF. We used to call these “change of life babies”. (Their mother was a devout Catholic and intensely embarrassed that everyone knew she was sexually active at her advanced age, haha).
My point being that it’s not impossible for a woman of that age to become pregnant naturally. Mazel, old gal.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | October 5, 2022 8:04 PM |
Lots of kids need adopting. Older parents risk autism, learning disabilities, color blindness…adopt.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | October 5, 2022 8:08 PM |
I am 51. As I told my pharmacist last week when he was explaining to me about the medication I was picking up being dangerous if I were pregnant 'I would actually kill myself if I was pregnant at my age'. Good for her I guess
by Anonymous | reply 11 | October 5, 2022 8:55 PM |
Isn't she like 50? Those things are gonna come out looking like a potato.

She’s happy. Jets be happy for her. Hilary Swank is a wonderful actress. I’m looking forward to this show. The producer is Tom McCarthy who starred in one of my guilty pleasures “Mary and Tim” with Candace Bergman. It’s a remake of the Mel Gibson and Piper Laurie film “Tim.”

I got pregnant at 45 accidentally without trying - I say accidentally because I was perimenopausal at the time and really didn't expect that as a possibility. I'm post-menopausal now (53), so getting pregnant would be extremely unlikely (although it HAS happened in post-menopausal women in some rare cases).

She looks good or has good filters. She can channel her experience as Carly on 90210 to make this motherhood thing work.

by Anonymous | reply 23 | October 5, 2022 9:45 PM |
[R-10] I worked in the dependency system for many years, and observed that the days of a healthy 16-year-old giving birth and surrendering her baby for adoption are rare, as there is now little or no stigma for out of wedlock birth. Sadly, a large percentage of babies now available for adoption are drug and alcohol exposed in utero; are from parents with severe mental illness that may be genetic; or were otherwise abused and neglected and removed from parental custody. To adopt is a noble act, but there needs to be much more transparency about the process. Those who think that love is all that is needed to transform a baby born addicted to meth into a healthy child are in for a rude awakening.

To the poster above how is it safe to have a child if you’re perimenopausal?
by Anonymous | reply 34 | October 5, 2022 11:59 PM |
R11 I am 54, just past menopause, and had almost the same talk with my doctor a few months ago when getting on a new med. He then told me about one of his other patients who, at 58, was pregnant via IVF. Any pregnancy over age 35 is considered a geriatric pregnancy, but I feel sorry for kids of actual geriatric parents.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | October 6, 2022 12:06 AM |
r34 if your post is directed to me (r17), I didn't say it was safe to be pregnant when perimenopausal. I said I didn't think it was possible for me to get pregnant being perimenopausal (which means you have little to no eggs left) - it's a geriatric pregnancy and the chances of having a "special needs" baby are high, if you and the baby make it all the way through the pregnancy. I don't think it's safe. And no baby came into the world from that pregnancy.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | October 6, 2022 12:07 AM |
R34 Pregnancies before age 20 or after age 35 are considerably more dangerous for the woman than those in the intervening years.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | October 6, 2022 12:08 AM |
She's probably using a surrogate and faking her pregnancy.

by Anonymous | reply 40 | October 6, 2022 12:45 AM |
She stated: "I am going to be a mom". She never stated she was pregnant. That wording suggests surrogacy.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | October 6, 2022 1:23 AM |
She posed pointing at her stomach. I think she actually is physically pregnant. Though ivf helped of course. Most celebs don't lie about using surrogates anymore, with a few notable exceptions ( rhymes with Scmicole Schmidman).
by Anonymous | reply 42 | October 6, 2022 1:33 AM |
r42 don't forget Eeeeeeelaria Baldween! She has birthed 7 bebés now and look how GREAT her bounce-back post-baby body already looks!!!
by Anonymous | reply 43 | October 6, 2022 1:36 AM |
Rachel Weisz got pregnant at 48. If Swank is using embryos she had frozen in her 30s then there is no higher chance of the baby being special needs than a woman who conceived naturally in their 30s. If the sperm is from a guy over 35, and especially over 40, then that increases chances for autism, schizophrenia, and childhood cancers. Over 35 being a geriatric pregnancy is different for everyone-- it depends on how fit you are, your health history, your blood pressure. It's definitely easier to bounce back from pregnancies physically if you are in your 20s. It seems like the trend in LA is to start having babies in your late, late 30s and into your 40s. It's kind of insane because I don't think it's the women who want to delay pregnancy, but they can't find LA men (in entertainment and related industries) who want to have kids before they are in their mid 40s, basically.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | October 6, 2022 1:48 AM |
R44 and then of course those guys when they finally do want to get married, want to marry someone “of childbearing years “ - usually. It’s such a sick set up.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | October 6, 2022 1:52 AM |
Good for her. Medical science is evolving everyday, so women becoming pregnant older is becoming more and more common. If men can do it, why not women?
by Anonymous | reply 46 | October 6, 2022 1:58 AM |
Her stomach looks small, esp. for twins. She must not be that far along. Surprised she's announcing her pregnancy when she can still miscarry early.

My tenant (single, overweight woman in her late 40s when she started renting from me) announced one year later that she was pregnant. It was a complete science experiment from start to finish - had to get someone else's eggs, sperm from a sperm bank, the whole 9 yards. And, yes, gave birth at 49. Of COURSE she got preeclampsia, and the baby was born premature, etc. Fortunately, the boy is now 4, super healthy and happy, But while I smiled and congratulated her, inside my head I was thinking "Jesus, fuck, what the hell are you thinking?!!!"

R50 I'm in DC. I have seen a lot of older women with adopted children here because their careers came first, but 58 and pregnant is absurd.
R46 No, it's very bad for her actually. Pregnancy is never easy on the body and it is much harder on older women. The only way an older man could be in any sort of danger is if he had a weak heart which gave out during the conception.

R60, I think older parents are much better than younger ones (in the teen to 25 range).
by Anonymous | reply 61 | October 6, 2022 6:21 AM |
R60 The opposite happened to my mom. She was in her early 60s and was pushing my baby nephew in his stroller around the block when someone asked if she were his mother. She was shocked, as she totally looked her age.

We are missing the “twin” aspect of this pregnancy. Even if they ARE eggs from when she was younger, there is still a much higher risk something will happen to those babies. She implies in the interview that she conceived naturally— “twins run in both my husband and my families.” (It means nothing if you are woman conceiving twins and twins run in your husband’s family… it’s passed down in females for the families that have history of twins.)
A twin pregnancy is AUTOMATICALLY labeled by doctors as “high risk,” and that’s on top of being a geriatric pregnancy, like others have mentioned. There are many complications that can occur throughout the pregnancy. 60% of twins are born premature— not great odds there that your babies won’t go to the NICU. A “full-term” singleton is born at 40 weeks, but doctors consider 37 weeks “full-term” for twins, but again your odds of making it that long are small. Depending on the type of twins there can be issues with one growing larger than the other, etc. Also, there are higher risks that one or both babies can experience some sort of trauma during delivery. If you’re going the hospital route to give birth, then most doctors will insist on you giving birth not in the standard “delivery room,” but in a full-fledged operating room (even if you are attempting to have the babies naturally) in case they have to do an emergency c-section at the very last second. (Bode Miller’s wife gave birth to twins at home, but this is extremely rare and it wasn’t her first birth, so she knew what to expect and her body was already more primed for childbirth.)
She might not be showing as much right now because this is her first pregnancy and I’m assuming that prior to becoming pregnant she was still in great shape and worked out. Don’t worry, if she’s fortunate to not have her babies born premature and continues to stay the course, then the chances of her abs literally ripping in half across the linea alba are much greater. This is called ab separation or diastasis recti and even in the most fit women it doesn’t always go back without surgery, especially so when it’s because you’ve have a multiple birth. (…think about it, the babies are forcing her stomach to expand at a faster rate of growth.)
And I haven’t even touched on how hard it’s going to be once they arrived. I assume she’ll have help, but even then it can be difficult.
Good luck.

Someone riddle me this- whenever an actress gets her big break, she always seems to get preggers: CZJ with Chicago, NatPo with Black Swan, the tall freaks with their Oscar runs etc... is it strategic? It has to be, because they're so cautious (I assume- pills and scrapes) beforehand.
Why "sacrifice" your body when you're finally on top?
