Fucking Betsy is going to give us a Republican governor.
She's received A LOT of money from Phil Knight (millions) and the owners of Columbia Sportswear and Pape to name a few big names.

Who could have predicted that 2 1/2 years after the unrest there, Portland would be seen as such a mess that Oregon could have a Republican Governor. Anyone with a working brain who wasn’t afraid of being called Boris here. Any mention of increased crime would bring accusations of being a MAGA to even mention it. It’s amazing how the smartest people end up being so wrong so often.

I was born and raised in Portland and have lived here most of my life. The problems in this city run deep and have only gotten worse in the last decade as the population here has exploded. I agree that the problems in the city proper will not be solved by a governor, irrespective of party. It’s the shit show that is feeble mayor Ted Wheeler and commissioner/drunk whack job Jo Ann Hardesty and co. who are utterly worthless.

MONROE, Ore. — Democrats haven’t lost a governor’s race in Oregon in four decades. Two years ago, Joseph R. Biden Jr. won the state by 16 percentage points. The only Republican to win a statewide election since 2002 died before finishing his term.
And yet this year’s race for Oregon governor is now among the tightest in the country, illustrating both frustration with one of the nation’s most progressive state governments and the power of a single billionaire donor to shape an election to his whims. The Republican candidate, Christine Drazan, has a real path to victory, despite promoting anti-abortion views that would ordinarily be a political loser in a state that has become a refuge for people who can no longer get abortions in their home states.

The pricks should realize that Betsy cannot win, and voting for her is not only throwing away their vote, it's also electing a right-wing lunatic as governor.
It won't be a protest vote that "sends a message to Salem." It'll be thousands of ignorant pricks voting only to harm themselves.
But we saw this in 2016, when scads of irritated voters fumed that Hillary Clinton didn't listen enough, or wasn't friendly enough, or wasn't commie enough, so the shitheads elected TRUMP instead.
Yeah. Big fuckin' lesson we all learned there.

So a Republican governor will wave a magic wand and the Multnomah County DA (the elected Democrat in charge of prosecuting crime in Portland) will immediately start charging people with crime and locking them up? Because that is a large part of the issues facing Portland. The DA runs a revolving door for people committing assault, theft and trafficking drugs.

Hi R15. I have been following, yep, but you know what? I'm skipping this election. by Anonymous | reply 39 | October 18, 2022 7:23 PM |
More extremely moderate republicanism.
Drazan: Voted against laws preventing convicted domestic abusers and stalkers from having guns and requiring gun owners to safely store their weapons. Said she does not support more gun control laws, but would increase funding for law enforcement and mental health support.
Drazan: Said she would fire all agency heads and appoint leadership that shares her commitment to customer service, transparency and accountability.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | October 18, 2022 7:27 PM |
The "customer service" mindset often works terribly in government.
Suppose a paint factory owner shows up and wants a permit to sort chemical waste right next to a river. Should the staff bend over backwards for him because "the customer is always right?"
What about a wife-beater who shows up to a social work office and demands an adjustment to his custody arrangement. Should the courts give it to him with a smile?
Citizens aren't customers. They're citizens. They fund the government and guide it through their votes, but they are also subject to its laws.

by Anonymous | reply 42 | October 19, 2022 3:13 AM |
Even liberal Oregonians seem to be fed up with the criminal state it has become, particularly in Multnomah County, and I think that is the common denominator that could swing things red. The Democratic party here has become complacent and twiddled their thumbs on this issue. The truth is that the Portland metro area is at the mercy of violent meth-heads, murderers, and carjackers. Nobody seems to know what to do about it, and those with lesser charges (i.e. not murder) are often let free within 48 hours. About half of the people I personally know have had cars or other property stolen, and one of my co-workers who lives in Mount Tabor woke up in the middle of the night to someone firing a gun through her kitchen windows.
The gun violence citywide is worse than it was in NE Portland alone in the late '80s/early '90s. Despite the sheen of new construction and gentrification that has taken place here, the city is festering underneath, badly. When I was a kid, there was always a homeless presence in the city, but it wasn't remotely near what it is now—and by and large, most of the homeless were not dangerous or violent. With the explosion of meth and its associated mental illnesses, this is not the case today. People are out of their minds. A huge part of it is clearly rooted in drugs, and it's an almost insurmountable problem with so many factors at play that I'm not sure how anyone can solve it at this point. I can see why people are associating the bedlam with the "slap on the wrist" approach to crime here—they are probably right in thinking so.

Eleven year old Oregon child starring in controversial drag queen event had been mentored by an accused child sex offender
"Are you excited for drag queen story time brunch this Sunday morning?" Old Nick's Pub asked in a Facebook announcement.
"Vanellope is here to show you what a 11 year old drag queen can do."
Controversy has erupted after a pub in Eugene, Ore. announced it is hosting a drag queen event featuring an 11-year-old child. An investigation by The Post Millennial has revealed that one of the child's "drag moms" was recently charged with child sex abuse offenses.
"Are you excited for drag queen story time brunch this Sunday morning?" Old Nick's Pub asked in a Facebook announcement. "Vanellope is here to show you what a 11 year old drag queen can do." The post featured several photos of "Vanellope Craving MacPherson DuPont," the stage name of the child, including one where she is touching her chest and her mouth is open. The Post Millennial is not publishing the real name of the child.
Vanellope's handler, Jennifer Hibbs, is also her drag mom. She uses the stage name "Sunshine Ray MacPherson" and is a long-time LGBTQ activist. Hibbs clarified she is not the girl's parent or guardian as previously reported but is the handler for the child.
"Her actual mother does her choreography so that it's all appropriate," Hibbs said. "We wouldn't let her do anything suggestive… it's terrible that people assume that we would let her do that."
Jennifer Hibbs, who performs as a drag queen named 'Sunshine Ray MacPherson,' is a 'drag mom' and handler for 11-year-old drag queen, Vanellope
The announcement of the Oct. 23 drag event was met with both praise and criticism in the comments section. Criticism was also levied at Vanellope's official Facebook page, which show her wearing revealing outfits and being photographed at low angles. The pub was quick to delete any criticisms, including those by a local mother who stated that one of the child's "drag moms," or mentor, had recently been arrested for child sex crimes. The claim is accurate, The Post Millennial can report.
On, Aug. 11, Vanellope's other long-term "drag mom," Kelsey M. Boren, who uses the stage name "Alwaiz Craving," was arrested in Lane County and charged with 12 felonies related to making and distributing child porn. Prosecutors found the 32-year-old such a danger to the public that they successfully petitioned the judge to deny her bail. At the time of her arrest, Boren was a teaching assistant for special education students at Veneta Elementary in Veneta, Ore. She allegedly told detectives that her need for child porn was like an "uncontrollable itch that she couldn't stop."

Because I need something to do while waiting for my sleeping pill to kick in, I googled the story linked above because I refused to click on anything related to AN. I found a hysterical twitter account called HoneyBadgerMom who went on a 200 page meltdown over this girl.
When did Old Nick = Satan because she says this pub where the drag show was supposed to happen is named after Satan.
I also found this in the comments. Deep in enemy territory. I laughed so hard, I probably gave myself another hour of insomnia. Deep in Enemy Territory!!!

R43 But electing a lunatic Republican governor won't do jack shit for crime rates in Portland. Governors don't control local law enforcement.
Crimes are (not) prosecuted at the county level. Multnomah County voters need to elect themselves a new district attorney. He's the shitbag who keeps letting these crimes go unprosecuted.

I have female family and friends R52, it's that simple. Drazan believes that democrats support abortion on demand until the moment of birth. That is not a viewpoint of a reasonable person.
You're welcome to provide specific examples of how Drazan or Johnson will drastically improve my life as a gay man, or are you not paying attention to the explosion of book banning, don't say gay and anti-trans bills popping up across the country in Republican led states. You do you, but I'll vote like my rights depend on it and that means anyone with a D behind their name gets my vote.

He writes that no one likes the current governor, Kate Brown. Most consider her incompetent or hapless. The deteriorating situation in Portland has hurt democrats statewide with the party in power blamed. The Republican candidate has tried to run on local issues and promises to fix Portland. Kotek wants more cops and promises to end the homeless camps. The best hope for Democrats is that the state is so Democratic-leaning that Kotek might be able to hang on.
