To be fair I think the tides are mostly turning amongst fans. The kit and Maia / bash and Joe hand holding clips have spread a lot and I think people are cottoning on that maybe those two are the couples and kit and joe are just mates. Cue the disappointment from some but I don’t think fear of backlash or anything is why they’re being more private now, I get the sense it’s just personal preference. Joe is functionally a ghost online and of the main cast seems the most reticent with fans. Not rude or anything but not as eager to chat with them as Kit and Bash are.

R82 Yeah, it's interesting that Joe has become the one who is more private on social media and seems to avoid fan interaction when he feasibly can - out of Joe and Kit, I'd have guessed Kit being that person as he's the more introverted one. I wonder if the sudden fame and constant scrutiny has knocked Joe's confidence and almost morphed him into more of an introvert. He used to confidently say he's very extroverted but then changed it to introvert/extrovert in a recent interview.

It's also hard to tell how he feels at things like the convention cos he seemed really at ease and friendly with fans, and very comfortable on stage for the panel, but is that just a convincing act? There were also some clips from the day of him looking quite nervous.

R83 not to get too off topic re Bash as this is his thread, but I wonder if part of the “extrovert” thing with Joe is also growing up around and knowing mostly the same people his entire life. It’s much easier to think of yourself and be extroverted when you know the people you’re socializing with; new people and fans are a whole different beast. He still seems very friendly and well liked by both the HS and Trials cast and aside from one lunatic after the Trials who thought he was up himself for having to rush home after, no fans have ever had a bad experience with him, so clearly he’s still sociable and pleasant to people. Just seems like meeting and chatting with fans is something he’s “good at” but maybe doesn’t particularly love doing which is fair. Also meeting fans is one thing but it seems like most of them ask for a hug or physical contact which even some extroverts aren’t huge fans of (I cannot imagine in his shoes wanting to hug someone I don’t know, let alone multiple a day).

Bash is pretty clearly the most extroverted of the three but I have absolutely no idea how he (or any of them but especially him) stays so nice. That one girl who lurked outside the theatre and pursued his mother and later him to give him a fanbook also showed up and talked to him for 30 minutes at the convention and said he was really lovely and friendly. I know he got paid to do it but even so, the fact that none of the cast has ever been described as snappy or impatient with fans is genuinely pretty impressive.

Small talk is a skill. I’ve met a few wealthy socialite type people, and they’re amazing at small talk. It’s basically their job. Bash has been acting since he was a little kid, and his family is quite wealthy. The art of small talk is clearly something he’s been taught. It doesn’t matter if he’s at a red carpet event talking to other celebrities, or meeting fans, he’s good at listening to pointless conversations and making the people around him feel valued.

I agree with R84 that Joe likely finds the constant fan interaction tiring, but he’s still always described by fans as kind and attentive. He just isn’t quite as naturally extroverted as Bash, nor has he been practicing the art of small talk for as long. It is however clear that the entire cast tries to always treat all fans with respect.

I’m also ordering one, but it is pretty expensive. I own a Darkus issue with Sam Spruell on the cover and it is a very nice magazine with a heavy feel to it.

The entire cast of TV shows rock up to the NTAs. That’s very common. It’s also very common to take your other halves. It’s held on the O2, so even those who don’t make it to the main celeb seats, you can often spot further back in the audience. VIP section but not nominated for anything other than part of an ensemble. Big fan of the NTAs, I often go but I can’t this year sadly.

Yeah, I'm excited for the NTAs, it's usually a good night. I'm also very curious to get a sense of Heartstopper's reach in the UK in general (beyond teenagers) - the applause/screaming when the show and actors' nominations come up should be a good indicator, as well as whether they win or not, of course.

R190 calm down, not everything is an attack on Bash. I actually think they’re pretty obvious but the people saying they’re not on this thread aren’t making a critique of him or Joe, just saying they’re pretty low key in Instagram posts

Most of the fans fully accepted they were together back in May. Then in early June, a very large group of fans collectively decide nobody was allowed to make assumptions about peoples dating lives and not ship real people. There was a few months when people on twitter were attacked by crazy fans just for reposting things Joe and Bash posted themselves.

Now, none of the cast regularly posts, and most of the content we see is posted by fans. Even the fans who know they’re together usually just post pictures, without highlighting the fact they’re dating. But at the same time, most people do accept they’re a couple. They’re just choosing to keep their private lives private, and most fans are trying to respect that.

There will always be crazy fans, who hate specific cast members. But the majority of fans either don’t care about the cast’s dating lives at all, or they accept Joe and Bash are a couple.
