That just leaves Flex, right? The Zone also shut down.

What's the gay equivalent of burning sage?
Gonna take a lotta whatever to rid that place of its demons.

[quote] Vendors who provide towel and linen services allege they have been told their services will not be needed past October.
It’s a huge cutback in laundered loads.

That looks like where a serial killer would live, I can’t see status conscious gays with good design taste wanting to set for in there.

"status conscious gays with good design taste "
Does such a thing exist?

Toss poppers on the ritual fire.

All the bathhouses survived COVID but not monkeypox.

A French design house bought the building to harvest nacreous layers of permacum for a line of luxury jewels.

Bath houses are creepy.

How do you repurpose a bathhouse?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | October 2, 2022 3:04 PM |
I used to go there a lot. They had jack-off shows with porn performers back in the day. Many were quite "interactive." The indoor pool was nice, and they also had a rooftop patio area. Lots of stairs: there's a basement, the main floor, two floors with rooms, and the rooftop. They also owned the Melrose Baths and that other dump in Wilmington.
It's in a really terrible area -- although I haven't been over that way in at least 15 years so maybe it's improved.

Repurposing as a lesbian-run animal rescue facility would neutralize any remaining sexual energy.

Was this the bathhouse John Travolta used to hang out at?

What about all the history?
All the "nacreous layers of cum" that add to the beautiful patina of the place?

R14 wins on unintentional irony alone;
"I used to go there a lot. They had jack-off shows with porn performers.......It's in a really terrible area".

Apparently bath houses aren't as profitable as they once were. Why go to a bath house when you can stay at home in your basement and get a date on Grindr?

Full disclosure. I....er.....someone I know has been there a number of times over the years when visiting southern California. It's in the middle of LA skid row - massive tent city of homeless. It's safest to use the paid parking structure adjacent, for safety, especially at night. It has/had more rooms than most bathhouses, because two floors worth, maybe 60 rooms per floor, plus a dark room with booths upstairs, a video room with benches lining the walls, and a basement area of glory holes, cubby holes, a bed for those into public sex. Showers and a pool area as seen in posted pictures above. The top floor is an outdoors area with cabana-type structures. The view of downtown LA skyscrapers is breathtaking , and probably the main reason that it might have value as a commercial structure at some point (a restaurant, some sort of penthouse, who knows?). A good mix of latino, asian, black and caucasian men of various builds, ages, and attractiveness. Nearly always busy. A good place for sex sound voyeurs, as the walls between cubicles are thin, and the cubicles themselves are set in recesses off the halls, so that it's possible to get away from the music being blasted by speakers. It will be missed. Given the rapid disappearance of the franchise, I have to believe that the usual corporate payoffs to police and/or local mafia have broken down.

I foresee in the next 50 years a time when people just never leave their house. Sad to say but the internet and pandemics are slowly ruining everything that was ever good.

by Anonymous | reply 26 | October 3, 2022 11:01 AM |
Why the weird spelling for Midtown?
But the upside for the spelling is that they could easily repurpose it as a type of historical reenactment center of gay life. Ye Olde Midtowne.
