Looks cute, will you watch it DL?
Gay Rom-Com “Spoiler Alert” starring Jim Parsons
by Anonymous | reply 73 | November 28, 2022 6:55 PM |
Starring Jim Parsons? I'm good.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | September 29, 2022 2:15 PM |
It looks cute? The actual title is: “SPOILER ALERT: HERO DIES AT THE END”!
I don’t want to see this depressing movie!
by Anonymous | reply 2 | September 29, 2022 2:19 PM |
I actually watched the trailer and okay MAYBE I'll see this as I do love a good rom-com and I'm not a complete monster. I was on board until I saw Dan Savage (le sigh) is one of the screenwriters. I guess I have until Dec. 2 to waffle back and forth on deciding to give it a go.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | September 29, 2022 2:21 PM |
Is there fisting?
by Anonymous | reply 4 | September 29, 2022 2:22 PM |
Sheldon done ditched the hag and found him a hottie, but a sick one.
What would Leonard think?
by Anonymous | reply 5 | September 29, 2022 2:22 PM |
Straight women get rom coms with good looking men.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | September 29, 2022 2:22 PM |
Ben Aldridge has fantastic nipples. I’ll watch it just until the nipple scenes.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | September 29, 2022 2:23 PM |
Regretfully, I can only see Sheldon. Therefore, no.
Unromantic.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | September 29, 2022 2:25 PM |
Looks like a hallmark movie
by Anonymous | reply 9 | September 29, 2022 2:28 PM |
Yeah, it's not a romcom. (The tagline on Youtube says "They wanted a rom-com. They got a love story." Which is to say...it's not a rom com, since that's not what they got.)
It's very much a tragedy/somebody-dies type of love story.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | September 29, 2022 2:35 PM |
I might catch it on tv but it’s not something I would make an effort to see in a theater.
It does look like a Hallmark movie but sometimes that’s just what I need.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | September 29, 2022 2:36 PM |
I saw BROS. I think I’m good. In a genre that is very formulaic, this sounds as if it was written be a computer:
1. Oddly paired romantic leads — one hot, one not. ✅
2. One set of parents are in the dark about their son’s sexual orientation. ✅
3. The hot guy is dying. ✅t
by Anonymous | reply 12 | September 29, 2022 2:38 PM |
The tired theme of a nerd bagging a hottie dominates gay fiction. But it's every gay guy's fantasy, so they'll never give it up.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | September 29, 2022 2:45 PM |
OK, but what’s the name?
by Anonymous | reply 14 | September 29, 2022 2:48 PM |
Trick was a dumb movie. WEHT Christian Campbell? Surely that movie didn't wreck his career?
by Anonymous | reply 15 | September 29, 2022 2:54 PM |
R15 I just saw him in something. But I can't remember what it was.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | September 29, 2022 3:00 PM |
Gay Rom-Com
Oh dear.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | September 29, 2022 3:00 PM |
This is based on TV writer Michael Ausiello’s book about his partner who died of cancer.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | September 29, 2022 3:02 PM |
I don't see why gay rom-coms have to be so different from straight rom-coms. In straight ones (movies or Hallmark / Lifetime ones) there's usually a gap when it comes to looks of the coupling).
And it's like on DL, when the couple doesn't look alike (what does the one see in the other?) or when they are pretty much one and the same (clones! They look like brothers! Yuck! They must be shallow as fuck!).
Looking forward watching Spoiler Alert. The part with Parsons' character being obsessed with the Smurfs is hilarious (that alone would've sent me running).
by Anonymous | reply 19 | September 29, 2022 3:07 PM |
Looks cute and very sad. Since the leads are gay of course they'll be overlooked for Oscar noms.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | September 29, 2022 4:25 PM |
Looks nice but felt like I just watched the whole movie already.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | September 29, 2022 4:41 PM |
R21 Yes, exactly.
I mean Our Sally IS in the movie. I might see it for her. She's playing a grumpy old Eastern Pennsylvania working class woman. The kind of role that might have gone to Tyne Daly for a CBS TV movie.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | September 29, 2022 6:54 PM |
Oh, God! Is this adult Gay version of 6 Weeks, one of my favorite Christmas movies? Is he going to die on the subway after going to a Lincoln Center performance of The Nutcracker? Will there be extensive Christmas in NYC montages?
by Anonymous | reply 23 | September 29, 2022 7:27 PM |
Not quite a rom com.
The Terms of Endearment moment, duh.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | September 29, 2022 7:39 PM |
Really looks like an SNL spoof of a rom com aimed at gay people.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | September 29, 2022 8:14 PM |
Looks ok but I watched the trailer. It basically told the entire story in 2 minutes or so--I don't feel the need to spend money to see this now.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | September 29, 2022 8:20 PM |
I'd suck Ben Aldridge's hairy cock till the cows come home
by Anonymous | reply 27 | September 29, 2022 8:23 PM |
I always wondered if Jim would look better without his hideous BBT hair. I guess not. That being said,Id kill to be his lover.Hes so damn rich !
by Anonymous | reply 28 | September 29, 2022 8:46 PM |
I'd watch it on TV, but just for the dreamy Ben Aldridge.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | September 29, 2022 9:01 PM |
Just realized Ben Aldridge is also playing gay as the spouse of Jonathan Groff in M. Night Shyamalan's next thriller, Knock at the Cabin. (With Dave Bautista and Rupert Grint!)
by Anonymous | reply 30 | September 29, 2022 9:16 PM |
There's a lot of Just For Men in that trailer.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | September 29, 2022 9:19 PM |
Aldridge was also Arsehole Guy in "Fleabag." And is openly gay.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | September 29, 2022 9:21 PM |
Apparently being a gay man was a prerequisite for Phoebe Tyler Wallingford Fleabag to cast any male actors in her show.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | September 29, 2022 9:56 PM |
Jim looks BOTOXED TO THE GODS. And acid washed. I like Sally Field and will watch this on my Kitchen television while I make fishstick casserole.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | September 29, 2022 9:57 PM |
The movie takes place over several years, so I'm guessing the tried de-aging Jim for the early parts
by Anonymous | reply 35 | September 29, 2022 10:02 PM |
[quote]will you watch it
Probably not. I lived it.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | September 29, 2022 10:05 PM |
[quote]Just realized Ben Aldridge is also playing gay in KNOCK AT THE CABIN
And in the limited ITV series THE LONG CALL.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | September 29, 2022 10:18 PM |
Thank you R35 that explains a little bit the horrific makeup jobs and filtering.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | September 29, 2022 10:20 PM |
Aldridge is in Pennyworth, too, if you're into DC Comics backstories.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | September 29, 2022 10:22 PM |
[quote] Apparently being a gay man was a prerequisite for Phoebe Tyler Wallingford Fleabag to cast any male actors in her show.
And I salute her for this!
by Anonymous | reply 40 | September 29, 2022 10:31 PM |
Is Jamie Demetriou (Bus Rodent on Fleabag) gay? He was cringingly hilarious on Stath Lets Flats.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | September 29, 2022 10:38 PM |
I've always assumed Jamie was gay but he has mentioned his girlfriend often.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | September 29, 2022 10:39 PM |
Jim Parsons makes my ass tired. I try to avoid him if I can.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | September 29, 2022 10:47 PM |
Yeah, I love Jim but this looks too sad. We really didn't need another tragic ending to a gay romance, did we?
I'm surprised by how old Jim looks in this but then again, he is 49.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | September 29, 2022 10:59 PM |
YAY YAY YAY - it is nice to see a good gay movie. Thankfully, they are becoming mainstream.
Ladies, we need to get out and buy tickets to show our support and that there is a audience that pays for these movies.
Teared up big time with the trailer...and watched it a couple times.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | September 30, 2022 8:14 PM |
I have to say I was curious enough to pick up Ausiello's memoir which the movie's based on.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | October 1, 2022 12:10 AM |
Gay rom com? I read Michael's memoir years ago and it's about his husband's protracted and painful death from anal cancer. The memoir's title is 'Spoiler Alert - the Hero Dies.' If you think that's a comedy, have at it.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | October 1, 2022 12:55 PM |
Anal cancer, I thought that was the protracted domain of one Miss Katie Couric?
by Anonymous | reply 48 | October 1, 2022 4:31 PM |
"Jim looks BOTOXED TO THE GODS. And acid washed. I like Sally Field and will watch this on my Kitchen television while I make fishstick casserole."
R34 what the hell is fishstick casserole? My best years are behind me, and this sounds like it (or you) could be my new best friend!
by Anonymous | reply 49 | October 1, 2022 5:26 PM |
I’ll watch because I’ve seen almost everything Field has done. She made a straight to video movie with Judy Davis, “A Cooler Climate” that was very good. I never watched Parson’s TV show but he was good in “Boys in the Band.” Ben Aldridge is one of the handsomest men in movies right now so Plus!
by Anonymous | reply 50 | October 3, 2022 1:13 AM |
It looks OK -- I may give it a shot.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | October 3, 2022 1:23 AM |
ugh....Since when do gay MEN want "romance" movies?....And this movie is another unbelievable couple pairing...In what Multiverse does THIS guy see Jim Parsons has hot?...wtf?....DUD...
by Anonymous | reply 52 | October 3, 2022 1:26 AM |
The partner dies of anal cancer. A slow painful death. Book was so sad.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | October 3, 2022 1:30 AM |
This will surely kill off gay movies for the foreseeable future.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | October 3, 2022 1:30 AM |
[quote]This will surely kill off gay movies for the foreseeable future.
I got there first!
by Anonymous | reply 55 | October 3, 2022 1:38 AM |
I bet we won't be seeing Ben having this type of action in the film.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | October 3, 2022 1:54 AM |
Nope. I cry enough. I don't need a movie where the main character dies to make me cry more.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | October 3, 2022 2:33 AM |
Read he book. Cried like a baby. Definitely will set it.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | October 3, 2022 2:42 AM |
I forgot that Antoni was in this. You wouldn't know from the trailer.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | October 3, 2022 5:46 AM |
It's not a rom-com. It's a tearjerker.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | October 3, 2022 5:49 AM |
Their marriage lasted less than a year before the hunky died. It's really fucking sad.
It's like a gayer version of "Autumn in New York," only without that stupid life lesson to be learned by the manwhore.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | October 3, 2022 2:42 PM |
If Sally can still jog all the way to Texas and back, I'm here for the whole thing.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | October 3, 2022 2:50 PM |
It opens this Friday. Hollywood Reporter:
"Where the drama is headed is never in doubt, and the steps it takes to get there are often familiar. Yet by this time we are sufficiently invested in the couple to care deeply. If anything, the intrusion of mortality makes the relationship more believable as both Parsons and Aldridge imbue their scenes with warmth and heart, regret and exquisite sadness.
This is a well-acted movie with far more authentic feeling than mawkishness; it provides a welcome reminder that there’s nothing quite so emotionally cathartic as a good cry."
by Anonymous | reply 63 | November 28, 2022 2:36 PM |
I maintain this story is so sad that I don’t know who the audience is. The book still haunts me. MARY!!!
But I hope it does well - I like both leads a lot.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | November 28, 2022 2:44 PM |
Releasing it during the holiday season only makes sense if the studio intends for it to be an awards contender, but Focus Features doesn't have it listed on their FYC site.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | November 28, 2022 2:55 PM |
They look cute and have chem but I have no idea what the premise is....thats missing, and I need to know it before I go and watch.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | November 28, 2022 3:02 PM |
R66 I mean other than Hot guy dies in the end.
Seems like your stereotypical generic rom com (sad emding not withstanding) but gay. For better or worse.
I dont like most straight rom coms either other than "It happened one Night" or "When Harry Met Sally" or "One fine day" ....so when there's a gay equivalent of any of those, that might perk my interesr. It doesn't look terrible though, so hopefully it doesn't do terrible.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | November 28, 2022 3:11 PM |
Gay men like Parsons & the other gay rom com dude need to fall in love with guys in their own league. It would be more interesting, attractive & inspiring.
Otherwise it’s just a fantasy where they actually think they could get hot dick on their own
by Anonymous | reply 68 | November 28, 2022 3:25 PM |
"Spoiler Alert" sounds straight out of the old "Let's be a Jennifer Aniston movie" thread.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | November 28, 2022 3:27 PM |
So, it's basically Green Plaid Shirt? Two guys meet, one guy gets sick and dies. Bummer. There are a few gay themed dramas with that concept. And the Straights have tearjerkers like Love Story.
It looks great, though.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | November 28, 2022 3:30 PM |
[quote]Anal cancer, I thought that was the protracted domain of one Miss Katie Couric?
Excuse me, that Couric bitch is the mistress of COLON cancer.
*I* am the queen of anal cancer -- and fuck Michael Jackson.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | November 28, 2022 4:00 PM |
As long as that bloviating ass Eichman had nothing to do with it, I might watch it.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | November 28, 2022 4:50 PM |
Jim Parsons lays it on a bit thick. I’m not entertained. Pass.
