Shit I didn't know about this! The Gramercy Park Hotel’s Liquidation Sale Was a Real Scene

And I live in the hood.

Is it closing?

by Anonymousreply 1September 29, 2022 4:48 AM

It closed in 2020, R1.

by Anonymousreply 2September 29, 2022 4:51 AM

R1...read! This is a bond fire sale.

I liked staying there on a visit so much that when I moved to NYC for a job I bought a one-bed at 24th and Lexington and hung out at the Rose Bar WAYYYYY too much.

I still have my liver, and a strong memory of the scent of their signature candle, a dark, musky, rose and sandalwood mixture.

Lots of good times.

I remember when it was a fleabag dump with a seen-it-all-already-darling staff and a $2 martini. A colleague of mine joked that if she ever murdered her husband, the police could arrest her at the bar.

Then it got turned into a shitty "socialite" hang-out and I lost interest.

They had a nice lavender-scented cocktail. It wasn't worth the $35, but it was nice.

It was incredibly great back before Shrager bought it, when it had that rooftop tiki bar, r5.

The refurbished sleek version never had the same VERVE that the original rough-and-tumble one had, I completely agree. Such a fun rooftop place to really relax. The staff, as you say, had seen it all before and the spirit was totally relaxed. I loved it.

It was one of my fav hotels before Schrager. What was that bar that O. Henry used to hang out in on 19th R4?

It's a queer business; hotel is one property but it sits on leased ground which is owned by someone else.

Abby Rosen is responsible for this hot mess, and it's not his first time at that rodeo.

Place likely will be converted into luxury condos.

Everything that fat, loud fuck touches turns to shit. I will never forgive him for the debacle at The Four Seasons (although the owners of the restaurant deserve a swift kicking as well) and his art collection is no-taste no-dick crap. He's a loud, whiny baby who thinks fake tan and open shirts make him look sexy. He's like someone took Donald Trump and Jonah Hill and mashed them into a Gumby doll.
