Really really gross
Bourdain's ex gives trashy writer his laptop and phone to write sleazy tell all book
by Anonymous | reply 330 | October 9, 2022 8:02 PM |
He killed himself that night
"I am okay,” Bourdain wrote to Argento, as detailed in Down and Out in Paradise. "I am not spiteful. I am not jealous that you have been with another man. I do not own you. You are free. As I said. As I promised. As I truly meant. But you were careless. You were reckless with my heart. My life."
Down and Out in Paradise publishes the final communication between Argento and Bourdain, which happened the day Bourdain hanged himself. Bourdain asked Argento, "Is there anything I can do?" She replied, "Stop busting my balls." Bourdain, responded with a simple, "OK."

It's funny how Anthony Bourdain loathed Guy Fieri, and often mocked and ridiculed Guy.
But when you compare the two lives, Guy is the clear winner.
Bourdain was miserable, judgmental, and unloved.
Guy Fieri has a loving wife, two well mannered and well-behaved sons, a multi-million dollar empire, and he's happy as a clam.
For all of Bourdain's superiority complex and put-downs of people he thought as "lesser" than himself, the truth is that he was just a very unhappy man who projected his unhappiness on to others.
There, I said it.

by Anonymous | reply 6 | September 27, 2022 10:04 PM |
Oh, and R5?
Guy Fieri's wife would never sell his laptop and cellphone to make a quick buck.
The only reason Guy Fieri is mentioned here, is because he was a real target for Anthony Bourdain.
Not sure why Guy Fieri would even be on Bourdain's radar, but I think it came down to pure jealousy.
Guy is a happy person.
Anthony Bourdain was not a happy person.
And then he killed himself.

[quote] I'm sure she thought "He's gone, there's nothing I can do about it, so I may as well shed some light on this crazy bitch Asia Argento". And she did.
The info also makes Bourdain look like a "crazy bitch" as well. Why have an open relationship with a public figure if you can't handle it? He says you're playing with my heart and my life then kills himself. That's a definite Fuck You. Also, he got on the train with the abused women, meanwhile paying off a minor that Asia had sex with (~ 20 years age difference).
The Daily Mail article said that Bourdain was hooked on steroids and alcohol.
He was using his wife (I don't think they were even divorced yet) as a confidante, talking about his current relationships. Not sure I'd want to hear it, if I were the ex.

I read here that he may have been in cuck-type relationship with his ex-wife, the one who apparently cooperated with the biography. She was a lot younger than him, was into some kind of jiujitsu-type wrestling, she looked kind of mannish.

He did seem to have the emotional life of an adolescent boy R17. And he was reportedly a blackout drunk for years, which just exacerbated his depression and feelings of hopelessness. He struck me as someone who had a hard time with aging and maybe the crazy relationship with Argento kept those feelings at bay—until she dumped him.

Bourdain was actually a good writer. There's a chapter from one of his books. The chapter is about Justo Thomas, who works at Le Bernadin. Thomas is in charge of cutting fish at the restaurant. I've read some other essays by Bourdain and was pleasantly surprised at how enjoyable it was read the essays.

He had a daughter he needed to stick around for but I can imagine it got pretty dark there for him at that time.

I've never liked him. He kept on doing work that kept him in the public eye when he despised it, and he cultivated fans while he also despised them. He killed himself when he had a teenage daughter who needed him, and whom he did not treat well, because he was cunt-notized by an actress.
He was a successful writer, but a complete failure as a human being. He acted as if the only responsibilities he had in life were his dick and his pocketbook.

"Guy Fieri has a loving wife, two well mannered and well-behaved sons, a multi-million dollar empire, and he's happy as a clam."
And a huge, huge closet case.
I think he's even fucked Travolta. That is not a joke.
And years ago he got into a huge screaming fight with his hair dresser/male lover in a public place and not a single witness didn't figure out it was a lovers' quarrel.
Didn't seem like such a happy clam back then.
Bourdain hated Food Network types who were promoted as famous chefs when they were just tv hosts with cooking shows.
Bourdain was not a chef (just a cook) and I think he got a lot of grief over that. Bourdain himself did not cut any slack for "chefs" who were nothing of the kind. He had a long standing beef with either Paula Deen or some other Food Network type so the thing with Fieri was typical.
I doubt Fieri was his "special enemy" so I'm not sure why the Fieri stan made their amusing appearance on this thread.
I watched Bourdain for years. It was obvious he was a lifelong depressive. It's not like he hid it. He talked a lot about his depression and his drug problems. He talked about his obsession with Brazilian jiu jitsu so I'm not surprised about the steroids. I'm not surprised about his suicide either.
He was definitely an asshole. And some of the episodes of his shows were unwatchable because of that. But he had a sincere appreciation for fine dining and I loved when he went to Detroit or Okinawa or some place that was not a Michelin star destination and it wasn't even necessarily about the food there. It was about his appreciation of working class life, working class people, and working class food.
So I admired him in spite of the fact that he could be so fucking annoying.

[quote] Asia Argento Settled a Sexual Assault Case Filed Against Her by an Underage Actor — Report
Asia Argento, a leading voice in the #MeToo movement and one of many women to publicly accuse Harvey Weinstein of sexual misconduct, settled a sexual-assault accusation made against her by former child musician and actor Jimmy Bennett last year, according to the New York Times. Bennett was 17 years old in 2013, when he alleges the incident took place; Argento was 37. He claims the assault took place in a hotel room in California, where the age of consent is 18.
Bennett originally intended to sue Argento for $3.5 million for assault and battery, lost wages, and the intentional infliction of emotional distress. The case was settled for $380,000.
According to the Times, Carrie Goldberg, Argento’s attorney in the case, wrote to her client that “we hope nothing like this ever happens to you again. You are a powerful and inspiring creator and it is a miserable condition of life that you live among s—-y individuals who’ve preyed on both your strengths and your weaknesses.”
The two acted together in the 2004 film “The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things,” with Bennett playing Argento’s son; she also directed the movie. “His feelings about that day were brought to the forefront recently when Ms. Argento took the spotlight as one of the many victims of Harvey Weinstein,” Bennett’s attorney wrote.

I'm with those on the other thread who are betting this un-recovered, lifelong addict-in-the-round was self-medicating with that at the moment of his unfortunate passing. The French hotel hushed it up, aided and abetted by the petit-bourgeois local authorities. They'd rather have a tragic suicide than a David Carradine scenario on their hands.

I'm 69 years old, and remember the days when I was an in demand beautiful boy. But them days are long over and I have learned to embrace my elderliness, and even enjoy it. I no longer have anyone to impress, no need to go out on the hunt for dick, no need to watch what I say, not to say that I hurt people's feelings. I just say what I mean, and mean what I say now. If others don't agree with me, that's perfectly fine.
Any man who would ignore his own child because a jealous lover wanted him too should have been born sterile. Bourdain had the mindset of a child, and couldn't handle the fact that not everything was going to be the way he wanted.

As a former alcoholic in recovery for over fifteen years - Bourdain's problem was alcoholism. Alcoholism makes it impossible to chose good partners and it absolutely destroys your self esteem and accelerates depression. Argento is disgusting but if Bourdain had been sober and well, he never would have tolerated her disgusting behaviour.
I think at the end he realized how badly he had been taken and was utterly humiliated.

I expected to dislike his CNN show, but he was very open to experience all kinds of places in novel ways. I've travelled a lot and appreciate someone who travels with that attitude. He was open about what a mess he was, so the armchair psychology isn't very useful here. Suicide at any age is often related to losses of relationship or downturns within relationships--his age is irrelevant. He was correct about the Food Network shows--they're really awful and ridden with schtick. Bourdain could be sanctimonious, but on the whole he was an interesting voice and it was sad that he took his life.

I still feel sorry for people who never found a place to fit in but I've met so many of these guys. Becoming a cook is easier than moving to Bukowski's LA Skid Row I guess.

I always liked Bourdain's show - and being the host of a travel show seems like a pretty good gig to me (and apparently to other since there are numerous people vying for his old spot) but after watching Roadrunner and seeing what an addictive personality he was as well as the inability to be happy with anything for more than 5 minutes, it's a wonder he lived as long as he did.
Based on this recent book, I'm guessing he didn't leave behind much $$ (suicide negates a life insurance policy, I assume) and the ex-wife wants to cash in with whatever is left while she still can

Having sex with a 17 year old is hardly a PEDOPHILE r59. Not that I am into kids but I wish people would stop just throwing that word around when it doesn't apply. A PEDOPHILE is someone who has a sexual interest in pre-pubescent children. We are talking 0-10 years old children. Those are pedophiles. Not someone who sex with a 17 year old - especially when you consider the age of consent is 16 in states like Massachusettes and 17 years old in a lot of states. Asia Argento might be a lot of gross things, but a Pedophile she is not. And the age of consent in Italy is 14.

Yeah, the 17 year old sex doesn’t really bother me that much either. Maybe if the sexes were reversed, but most 17 year old boys would jump at the chance to fuck an older woman. It’s creepy and a little predatorial but doesn’t make her a pedo.

[quote] Bourdain's problem was alcoholism.
Yes, I agree he was an alcoholic. He talked a lot about his 6-month heroin binge, holed up in an apartment. I think he thought the heroin story made him edgy. At the same time, it allowed him to downplay (be in denial) about alcohol.
I never saw him get off on animal cruelty, but he made it a point to say that he viewed animals as just meat. You can be a carnivore / omnivore and realize that it's not always black and white like that.
by Anonymous | reply 96 | September 28, 2022 6:17 PM |
I'm a vegan and I loved Bourdain. He was coming around on the animal cruelty front . At least in regards to factory farming. He was an extremely emotionally stunted alcoholic but he was deeply respectful of the people that he visited the world over.
He was great.

His main problem was depression. Drugs and alcohol don't help, but being involved with a cunt and being as seriously depressive as he had been all his life was the bigger issue.
He was a fine writer, made very entertaining television, and clearly was loved by a lot of people.

Dealing with alcoholism isn't easy.
I'm not a medical professional, but I'm guessing that quitting drinking (for an alcoholic) would be Step One in treating and even diagnosing depression. You need to get a baseline. Doctors prefer to diagnose mental illness after the drugs / alcohol is not a factor. Even if it's just a detox (vs. sober life).

Drinking is pretty much expected at gatherings and parties, which is what most of his stories were about.
Bourdain admitted that he doesn't eat or drink nearly as much in real life, as he did for the show.

I forgot to add that he lost a significant amount of weight towards the end of his life, because he went on a strict diet which limited both food and alcohol.
So I'm not sure where you are getting that he's an alcoholic.
It was mostly for his CNN show that he indulged in drinking. According to interviews, he wasn't like that in his day-to-day life.
[quote] Anthony Bourdain reveals what he does to stay in such great shape
In an interview with Nuvo magazine last year, Bourdain spoke at length about his fitness regimen. “I train every day, wherever I am in the world,” he told the magazine. “When I’m in New York, I train at the Renzo Gracie Academy, an hour private and then an hour and a half general population. That’s basically Fight Club.”
Since beginning his Brazilian jiu-jitsu practice in 2014, Bourdain won a competition and earned his blue belt (the second level for adult practice). However, when speaking with Men’s Journal last year, he called himself a “blue belt who doesn’t suspect he will ever make it to black belt in this lifetime.”
In addition to the physical benefits, Bourdain also enjoys the mental impact of jiu-jitsu, mainly the "incremental tiny satisfactions of being a little less awful at something every day,” he told Charlie Rose.
Of course to reach the 61-year-old’s physicality, diet is equally as important as exercise. Although he’s been known to duck out in the middle of the night for fast food macaroni and cheese, the former chef maintains a thorough understanding of what he puts in his body. He told Travel + Leisure that he doesn’t even eat on the airplane as he knows his body will not digest the food.

I think he was a very interesting man and “actually” adored his fans. He hated show business— a man like him would. I think he would’ve wanted to be more of a modern day Duncan Hines than a standout runway celebrity. He was the first to call out John Besh and Mario Batali ‘meatheads’ from how they treated women in their restaurants.
The restaurant business harbors a really nasty culture and it has since the early 20th century. My family had a successful small restaurant for 25 years and my parents clue me in from time to time on how it really is.

r32 On steroids, I have some personal experience - many on here probably do as well. I was an elite road cyclist for a few years, very lean, very skinny, emaciated really, but I took many different kinds off anabolic steroids. I was in my 20's, he was much older, with naturally decreasing testosterone. He might have just been maintaining normal levels, but I read he also did martial arts, so it was probably in the context of that environment.
Most important thing is they are anti-catabolic, meaning they PRESERVE muscle when you are on a restricted calorie diet, or training or competing hard. You want to get rid of fat, not muscle.
It increases protein synthesis, so you can build and maintain lean muscle easier.
Muscle mass increases basal metabolic rate, so muscle actually burns fat.
Testosterone is obviously good for libido, so he could keep up with a younger woman.
Eases depression in older men. Increases aggressiveness, so he could be more "alpha" or whatever.
Watching him have to eat, I bet he was probably bulimic. So the steroids kept him from wasting away.
Now the interesting thing is if you get OFF them. That was something else, I was very depressed for a whole year. So it may have played a role, along with his addictions. He probably never felt very good his entire life after the heroin, and was just trying different substances to survive. No dopamine, declining testosterone, woman problems, ennui, malaise, and reaching his goals - becoming rich and famous and beloved and still hating life and feeling like shit all the time. Very sad.

t177 I read that he had already established some trusts for his child or something. Also he traveled around the world, and may have hidden some money for tax evasion purposes.
It would explain his cozy relationship with his ex-wife.
We've all known people that literally spend every dime they have, no matter how much they have. My brother is like this and it's insanity. He spends all his money like it's his actual job, and is the most generous guy in the world, always picking up huge tabs for everyone. Self-esteem issues I guess.
IF you are constantly thinking about killing yourself, hoarding money doesn't make much sense. He's living out of a suitcase. Maybe bipolar or clinically depressed, so manic and burning through money, or depressed and using money to try to feel better.
Lot's of rich people are broke.

People might be right to say Argento wasn't legally a pedophile, but in the eyes of California law, she was a statutory rapist. Is that any better?

Bourdain talked about getting blackout drunk over the years—he filmed a scene in one of his Sicily episodes in a blackout. He didn’t sound like a social drinker, but his narrative was that heroin was his main addiction and that he could control his drinking (but ultimately he couldn’t seem to).

Same here.
Guy has a much larger audience and platform.
He could have really blown Bourdain out of the water.
But he didn't.
Guy was raised right. He kept his private thoughts to himself. And he didn't expose his family to criticism.
Meanwhile, Bourdain trashed Guy Fieri relentlessly, had an affair and disrespected his wife, killed himself, and left his child an orphan.

Don't think you got this part right, though, I never really followed his career, I watched a week episodes of his CNN series. I read recent article in the NY Times Food section this week. Actually, the book reveals his family lived beyond their means in some New Jersey suburb. So, not exactly rich.

[quote]He "vanished" from his eleven year old daughter's life because Asia couldn't handle him being around his daughter and ex-wife? Asia stalked his wife's social media and became incensed if any photos of him with his kid or around his ex with the kid were posted? Both he and Asia are assholes.
This past Weds' NY Times FOOD section had an article about the book. It mentioned how possessive Asia Argento was, how she didn’t want AB to spend any time with his daughter and how jealous she was when his wife posted family pics at her social media accounts. Jealous about posting photos? Asia was always having meltdowns about Anthony and his family. Obviously AA is some sort of control freak. I know someone who was married to this type of woman, she controlled every aspect of this man's life and there was a lot of violence involved. The women beat him constantly, he never hit her back. he's a big guy, but he never return the beatings.
Most of Asia's behaviour makes little sense, except it's clear she has severe mental health and/or substance abuse issues. Asia isn't even good looking enough for some obsessed straight man to be drooling over, she's actually quite unattractive. Even when dressed for the red carpet, she always looks dirty and disheveled.
If Asia was so possessive, then, why did she tell Anthony to basically fuck off? To “stop busting my balls.” If she didn’t care about him, why the hell did she care if he had contact with his wife and daughter? Likely due to her mental illness combined with substance abuse. Or she simply enjoyed controlling Anthony. What a freak.
It seems AA simply wanted to control AB and also not want him around all the time? It was some sick twisted game for her. Asia was basically controlling his life, while she was fucking different men.
Straight men who chase after these types of women must be gluttons for punishment. AB also wasn't all there mentally. These were two very sick minds. I know several people in this type toxic relationship, one partner almost killed their husband. In this case, AB killed himself.
Seems Asia found her perfect victim. People like her can see their victims a mile away. AB, for all his bravura displayed on his CNN series and in his writing, appeared to be an extremely weak confused man with addition issues. A lethal combination. Apparently, Anthony was all surface. Anthony knew Asia was having an affair with some guy who worked at a hotel. There were photos of them being affectionate in public. Asai flaunted her affair.
Asia sounds quite fucked up. Don’t forget, AB paid off the much younger guy, Jimmy Bennett, she had an affair with. In fact, according to The NY Times article, AB spent “hundreds of thousands of dollars” on Asia. Guess AA is also a gold digger? Straight men will never learn. NEVER.
Asia seems to have a career due to her father, Italian horror film director, Dario Argento's connections and her connection to Weinstein, because, honestly, she's not much of an actress and is not attractive in the least. One film I saw her in, she played a much desired courtesan, talk about blurring the lines of reality and fantasy! Asia is toxic and doesn't seem desirable in the least.
Asia seems extremely mentally ill and most likely is. Anthony wasn’t exactly stable either. I guess there IS a lid for every pot. A relationship made in hell.

Then she had photos of her taken and published kissing that guy in the streets of Rome to make AB jealous.

Nepotism only goes so far, once you get your foot in the door due to connections, you have to prove you have talent. Asia needs to realize she's isn't all that talented. Plus, she sure cannot get by on her looks.
Asia didn't win shit. This ugly dirty looking mentally ill freak has to live with the fact that she caused another human being to commit suicide. I reckon she'll end up offing herself over the next few years. Or gone on to destroy another man's life, then OD.
I can see a toxic person a mile away. I've dumped several user and controlling friends, I couldn't be happier. One person I've known since I was a teen, this person has become more mentally ill during the years and refuses help. This man self-mediates with all sorts of recreational drugs, drinks alcohol every day and lives in his own world. He's wealthy, he doesn't need to work.
This addictive behavior might be considered eccentric or cute when you are younger, but at his age he should have gotten help many years ago. It's not as if he cannot afford a good therapist, and interventions, he sure can. I'm not the only friend who has stopped communicating with this man. Last I heard, since most of his longtime friends are gone from his life, he now surrounds himself with lots of dumb young foreign men who are clearly using him for his money.

Given the very plausible stories of Dario being incredibly inappropriate with Asia at a young age, this doesn't surprise me. She strikes me as someone who was abused when younger and grew up to become another abuser. She is also quite obviously mentally ill.

Meanwhile Asia broke her silence about the suicide of her two-year partner Anthony Bourdain in June.
She told DailMailTV that his death left her with a " void that nothing can manage to fill".
Her first reaction, she said, was "anger".
"Now anger keeps me alive because otherwise this desperation would have no end".
The celebrity chef and food-travel journalist was 62 when he killed himself in a French hotel.
In Bennett's interview with Massimo Giletti, he reiterated he was raped at 17 by Argento five years ago.
On September 5 Argento's lawyer said she has stopped paying Bennett to settle his sex-abuse lawsuit.
She also reiterated she had not had sex with the former child actor when he was 17.
Lawyer Mark Jay Heller said the #MeToo figurehead had halted the payments to Bennett agreed with her late partner Anthony Bourdain, the celebrity chef, to buy Bennett's silence.
"The relationship with Bennett was never sexual, and in the end it will be discovered that it was she who was attacked by Bennette," said Heller.
"Now that Bourdain is dead and can't comment on the desire to averta potential scandal, Asia won't let any more installments of the agreed $380,000 be paid to Bennett who has already received $250,000".
by Anonymous | reply 241 | September 30, 2022 2:56 PM |
R241 was an article from 2018. I think here in the US we heard that it was just rumor that Bourdain paid Bennett off, but it seems in Italy, it was common knowledge.

R246 Pitt and Argento were engaged in the 2000s but that ended over a decade ago.
What I want to know is how Argento got so screwed up. Or was she always this much of a mess? Knoop (JT Leroy) said she came on strong then dumped JT soon after getting film rights, going as far as to show off Michael Pitt in front of JT on the move set while they flirted, which seemed like an extra bitchy move. Then all this stuff about assault with the actor who played her son, then her jealous behavior toward Bourdain and their screwed up relationship where he saw prostitutes and she dated other men but Bourdain was heartbroken over her apparently.
In my opinion, they both sound screwed up, but I’m actually more curious about Argento and how she got that way.

Asia's disgusting tattoos also point to mental illness. People who destroy their bodies with a lot of 'ink' have some major issues. Her tats aren't even even attractive.
Nothing wrong with a few tats, but to cover large areas of your body with them, it's too bizarre, it definitely shows there's some self loathing involved. Asia might have also enjoyed the pain.

More than anything, the ex probably wants to expose the downright cruel way she treated him; she pushed him to blow up his professional relationships, alienating long time friends & colleagues & pushed for him to choose between her & his daughter, and asshole that he was, he chose her. And then she not only dumps him, but publicly humiliates him. Granted, he has his own issues as well documented in this thread, but given her lack of any kind of remorse at the very least that he's *dead* and her "fuck you" back to the world that judges her pretty harshly, and her well established mental issues, I don't think it's unreasonable to assume a suicide attempt (maybe a successful one) is in the cards for her too.

R269 Honey, are you expecting DLers to be consistent or make sense?
by Anonymous | reply 272 | October 2, 2022 3:31 AM |
Iggy Pop is 10 years older than bourdain and had the sense not to get a bunch of tattoos and strain his arms, posing. Bourdain is a literal poser.

The extremely weird mainstream media beatification of this drug addicted cook is beyond me. Who cares? Move on.

R274 Im kinda with you there. When I was sidelined with an injury last summer I tried getting into one of his shows. I pulled up the one where he is in the desert with Josh Homme and his band. I was actually surprised at how much of a literal teenager Bourdain seemed to be. Its one thing to cut up with the boys but it was apparent this is how it was regularly with him. I couldn’t watch any more of it.

The MARY! outrage at the emergence of the true Bourdain story and the wife's cooperation with a credentialed Rolling Stone journalist are ridiculous. It would be funny if Bourdain's endgame wasn't so pathetic. Some of the outrage is of course pure cynical commercialism from quarters with lots of $$$ riding on the continued mirage of Bourdain as this Deep Thinker Who Taught Us How to Live. The rest is infantile fan hysterics, much of that one suspects emanating from Argento stans. The wife didn't lie about Bourdain or what happened. She let the facts come out and did not collude in perpetuating mythology about who Bourdain really was.
The Bourdain fan army is incomprehensible. It's unbelievable these people actually took this guy as some Meaning of Life guru. He was a mordant, hilarious, rapier-wit writer, raconteur, and entertainer--at least until his demons began to get the better of him and his schtick became singularly flaccid and un-entertaining--and that was IT. It was more than clear from his volumes of memoir essays and many of his later interview comments that he was disordered in the extreme and an un-recovered addict par excellence, chasing one "Pink Cloud" high after another and going into tailspins at the inevitable crash from the high du jour, before latching on to the next one. It's all very sad, but he wasn't Our Wise and Profound Spiritual Mentor. He was John Belushi. Whose wife also did the world a favor by cooperating in a riveting post-mortem bio full of painful truth.
by Anonymous | reply 278 | October 2, 2022 8:31 PM |
I didn’t know that John Belushi had a wife. He was before my time.

I didn't like him but Nigella Lawson did: "When you're young, what you want of people is that they're funny and clever. And then as you get older, you realize kindness is important. But it's not often that you meet people who are funny, clever, and kind. And he was."

Not so kind to his daughter.
by Anonymous | reply 282 | October 3, 2022 6:31 AM |
I loved NO RESERVATIONS at first. And his takedowns of some of the Food Network cooks was hysterically funny. Didn’t agree with his assessment of Tyler Florence or Emeril Lagasse, although he later softened his stance on the latter. But he got increasingly smug and too-hip-for-you at some point. Especially when he had his friends on his shows.
by Anonymous | reply 283 | October 3, 2022 5:12 PM |
R283 Yes, which is indicative of seriously stunted behavior rooted in immaturity and insecurity. The snobby aging hipster schtick is embarrassing after a certain age, quite frankly.

Aren't all talented chefs snobs? Just like designers?
by Anonymous | reply 285 | October 3, 2022 7:19 PM |
I don't think it has ever been proven that Anthony Bourdain is a talented chef.
He's a glorified line cook, as far as I can tell. And by his own admission.
So really, he had no reason to be such a nasty cunt.
by Anonymous | reply 286 | October 3, 2022 7:24 PM |
I hated the shows where he’d go to a restaurant that was off limits to what he called “civilians”, meaning non-chefs. Bitch you were a cook and not a very good one by your own admission.
You weren’t in the French Fucking Foreign Legion. By the time he moved to CNN, I had totally lost interest in him.

by Anonymous | reply 288 | October 3, 2022 9:03 PM |
There was something kind of hot about him. I love a tall thin man, and I imagine he would be a freak in the bed. His frequent trips to prostitutes over the years seemed weird. I bet he would’ve let a guy suck him off, especially during his heroin and alcoholic days (which was probably most of his adult life).

He liked to swan around topless and no matter how haggard Asia looks, she is quite a bit younger than him. His 2nd wife was probably his connection. No woman gets that huge without chemical assistance
by Anonymous | reply 297 | October 4, 2022 7:26 PM |
People make Anthony Bourdain out to be a saint when he paid a rape victim to keep his mouth shut so that his girlfriend would stay out of trouble. If he was such a moral compass, why would he be an accessory to that? I believe people really underestimate what a role this rape scandal played in his suicide. Anthony Bourdain, who was so outspoken during the Me Too movement, was about to be exposed as a giant hypocrite and phony when his part in everything went public. Then he realized he put everything on the line (his career, his reputation, his family and friends, his morals, his dignity) to save this woman from the consequences of what she did and it was all for nothing. She still went off, fucked another man, and pretty much told Anthony she never gave a shit about him anyway. It was all too much for him so he committed suicide.
by Anonymous | reply 298 | October 5, 2022 2:23 AM |
Asia Argento is a rapist, a groomer, and a child molester.
The fact that Bourdain was with her, and enabled her behavior, makes me hope that he's rotting in hell.
by Anonymous | reply 299 | October 5, 2022 2:26 AM |
R298 You are so right. He single-handedly saved her and subsequently her whole me too movement she and her friend Rose started by paying off that kid. And thats how she repaid him.
by Anonymous | reply 300 | October 5, 2022 2:30 AM |
I don't think it's all his fault. He didn't know what she was when he first got with her. By the time he realized what he got himself into, it was too late. Also, maybe he believed the bullshit lie that Jimmy Bennett was the assaulter rather than Asia. If he loved her as much as I think he did, he probably would've accepted any lame ass excuse she came out with.
by Anonymous | reply 301 | October 5, 2022 2:33 AM |
Agreed, r301. He idolized her and she was the woman of his dreams. He probably imagined that the kid was in love with her too, and believed that he would pursue her.
by Anonymous | reply 302 | October 6, 2022 2:00 PM |
Asia already had scandal surrounding her when he started dating her if he had bothered to Google her and read about JT Leroy. Knoop’s autobiography was pretty damning about her behavior. She was also blacklisted in Hollywood for awhile after that mess.
by Anonymous | reply 303 | October 6, 2022 3:40 PM |
I never understood how Anthony Bourdain became such a secular saint and superstar to straight people who all seem to revere him as some oracle?
I've worked with high end chefs and they tend to be very exacting and often difficult personalities. Bourdain seemed like a total douche bag to me, but what do I know?
by Anonymous | reply 304 | October 6, 2022 3:58 PM |
A NY Times review stated Bourdain had affairs with other prominent NYC chefs, but didn't mention anyone by name nor did the review state if the chefs were men or women.
Was he bisexual? This man seemed game for anything. Bourdain's relationship with Asia Argento was bizarre, all he had to do was Google this unstable woman to see she was very bad news. Some people are gluttons for punishment. Seemed like he thrive on drama and emotional pain.
How could anyone fall in love which such a crazy person? A few minutes with someone like Asia should tell you all you need to know. Then you run the other way.
So many people really hate themselves, they allow others to shit all over them.
by Anonymous | reply 305 | October 6, 2022 4:41 PM |
I dated a chef, and my experience of them is that they are hedonists- they cater to the very base pleasure of eating and drinking. A ton of drug use goes along with that.
People who need emotional pain or seek the highs and lows need that to feel "alive" or "human". We don't discover new lands anymore, hunt, fight off warring tribes (for the most part), etc to survive. We live life vicariously through films and faux fighting (sports). When someone like Bourdain has experienced everything (more than most humans have), where else is there to go?
by Anonymous | reply 306 | October 6, 2022 5:39 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 307 | October 6, 2022 7:26 PM |
I found this: [Asia], was disturbed, she said, that the film includes Ms. Albert’s suggestions that she had been sexually intimate with JT LeRoy (in reality Ms. Knoop) in an effort to win the film rights to “The Heart Is Deceitful.” Ms. Argento said the accusation — which she called “nasty” and “painful” — had no merit.
I think the film came out a long time ago. Whoops.

[quote]BRUCE: Did you get a lot of flack for the film? [quote]ASIA: Well, I was protected in a way by my father and my uncle, who produced the film. Europeans have different ideas about women having sex with teenage boys. Yes, in fact preparing teens for future adult relations (grooming if you like) is viewed as a good thing.
This is evident in classic literature, tale Cheri by Colette for instance.

He was calling out hypocrites (Paula Deen) and then became a hypocrite himself. Calling out Harvey Weinstein, then paying off AA's boy.

R307 long story, but JT was supposedly a young non-binary/mtf who had, as a young boy, been pumped out to men at truck stops by his mother and now was a bestselling author. JT got a ton of attention and everyone wanted film rights, and Asia met JT and seduced them (nevermind that JT had a fully female body because it was really Savannah Knoop—Asia didn’t seem to care), and Knoop thought they were in a relationship of sorts. When Asia got the film rights, she directed and starred as JT’s mother and invited JT to the set, and was in many high profile appearances with JT. Knoop, who legit liked Asia and had feelings for her, hoped they’d be together again, but Asia flirted with Michael Pitt right in front of “JT” (it sounded intentional by the way Knoop described it) and Pitt and Argento hooked up and got engaged later. After the film and the promotion and interviews, JT and Asia had nothing to do with each other pretty much, except Knoop sorta confessed to Asia she was hurt by Asia and it was alluded Knoop hinted that she was a woman and JT was fake. After that, they never talked again, supposedly, if I recall from the book.
Prior, Asia had claimed to be pregnant with JT’s child for attention.
The movie bombed and Asia was blacklisted after everyone found out JT wasn’t real.

Tyler Florence hated him and Andrew Zimmern. They both dragged him. And Zimmern even said that Tyler was the least talented chef on television at the time. Tyler told him to go back and eat another bowl of dick soup; referring to Andrew’s trip to a restaurant in China that served soups made from animal penises. And he dragged Anthony for eating that warthog rectum in South Africa or Zimbabwe. Anthony ate that shit and then downed a pint of whiskey. Zimmern is a smug fat, bald bastard.

Please, you can be in a relationship with an edgy weird person without that person controlling and manipulating your life.
Asia Argento comes across as sociopath and possibly a psychopath. It wasn't enough she was controlling this man, then was getting angry when he posted pics of his daughter, seriously?
Asia had the audacity to flaunt her other relationships in Bourdain's face, this was after he spent "hundreds of thousands" on paying off the teen she raped and God knows what other mental anguish she put this man through. Seems the alcohol and drugs fucked up his already fragile mental state. People like AA see their victims a mile away. I worked with a sociopath, these people are not happy until they break down others, they take immense pleasure in their behavior.

AB was always fragile even as a young boy. He mentioned this casually in a few of his shows (like the episode on the NJ shore with his brother).
He was probably always a depressive and like most depressives he sought relief in drugs, alcohol and relationships.
It's apparent in the episode shot in Italy with AA he was falling in love with AA, with Italy and with the warmth and security many Italian families offer up. Perhaps he felt he had found IT at last.
