If I have a cart or basket full of stuff and someone has one or two items, I always let they go before me. My mama taught me right!

Years ago, I just left the line after paying for some items at Diane Reade. I was a few steps away when I remembered I had to ask the cashier if they gave out rainchecks, it was the last day of a sale and an item I needed was sold out.

I went back up to the cashier, by the side of the checkout area, to ask that question and if it was "yes", I would have gotten back on the line to wait for my raincheck. I did not cut back into the line.

Some smug woman in a white leather coat yelled in her nasally Long Guyland accent, "Hey you, why are you jumping the line? Dontcha see there's a line??" This creep didn't just notice I had already paid for my items? I was right ahead of her on the line. I shut her up real fast, "The time you are wasting berating me, I would have already asked the cashier my quick question!" She shut up real fast.

I would have turned it on her: “Oh, maybe you will know. Regarding rain check items…”

I used to do that, r154. Now if there is someone behind me with a few items when I've got a full cart, I just think to myself, "The self checkout lane is for you. Why are you looking at me like I'm the problem?"

If you have cash rewards on your store card how does self checkout work ? Seriously.

I always wonder about that. Right now I have about $75 cash on one of my drugstore cards. You can apply a certain amount to your purchases, I think it's about $5 to $20 dollars per transaction.

Most non-chain supermarkets don't have self checkout, even some major drugstores don't have this option.

In my neighborhood, only Rite-Aid and CVS have self checkout. Costco has it, but the large neighborhood supermarket doesn't. The smaller supermarkets don't have self checkout either. Walmart? I've never ben in one in my life.

I also noticed lots of people don't use the self checkout, when they do, there is inevitably always some problem and a cashier has to help the customer.

I almost always use the cashier, it's important that we retain as many human services as possible, not to mention workers having a job.
