The author is wrong though. Caneface is derogatory in a way that gayface isn't. Gay men use the term 'gay face'. Lesbians would never describe other lesbians as having caneface.

The correct comparison is cane face v cookie smelling face.
They are equally derogatory/non-derogatory.

I remember when "caneface" was first bandied about in these august halls. I thought back to a notorious lesbian I was in college with, who among other affectations habitually wielded a cane—but I think that might have been a coincidence. I remember the term originating here because someone asked, "Has anyone noticed how many lesbians use canes?" meaning gouty, infirm bulldykes.
