Giorgia Meloni: Political provocateur set to become Italy’s first far-right leader since Mussolini

" Political provocateur set to become Italy’s first far-right leader since Mussolini"
And that worked out so well for him.
Well, I must be going. Satan can't minion himself.
And let's face it. It's the only way I'm getting a pearl necklace these days.

Most people in the First World countries hate immigrant from the Third World. But I really can't understand the obsession-compulsion of opening borders to those ugly, homophobic immigrants by the progressive liberal left. It seem like a self-sabotage, suicide mission to me.

Didn’t they have a so called “far right” leader about 5 years ago? It is almost as if “far right” is just a boogieman term used to demonize any politician who doesn’t want to import refugees at the expense of the local people and doesn’t actually mean anything.

Luckily and following tradition, the ruling parties will start squabbling almost immediately and not much will be done. Non-caretaker governments in Italy don't tend to last very long.

I learned growing up in the 80s from women on TV that if women ruled the world, it would be a more peaceful and loving place.
Yet here in the US, there seem to be as many insanely hateful Christian women as there are men in leadership roles. In France, the leading Nazi is a woman. In Italy, too, it seems. And the worst person I've ever known and worked with was a woman who took sincere glee in making people suffer.

by Anonymous | reply 20 | September 24, 2022 8:23 PM |
The media, just like ABC, BBC and CNN, is completely controlled by the left, just like the judiciary. And you call the right fascist? You're a bunch of retards who will buy anything the TV tells them. They call Meloni "fascist" or "far-right" just because she opposed retarded wokes like you, just because she disagrees with them. That's because leftists are allergic to democracy and only like it when they win

Funny, in Italy her party The Brothers Of Italy is referred to as "center right" not far right.
The Anglosphere press is doing such a hit job on her, but they rarely interview Italians who were once staunchly voting for the left but now vote for the right.

r28 She's quite conservative and essentially anti-euro and shit (even though she can't really say it or they'll lambast her even more than they already do), but she's not how the media portray her at all. [quote]if you did any reading, you'd see the roots of that so-called movement are directly from Fascism.
Unlike you, I speak Italian fluently. I lived and worked in the country for over 3 decades.
AND the small city I lived in was governed by her party. A place that for 70 years (up until 6 years ago) voted exclusively for the left.
Let's see how much reading you've done: why are regions of Italy that were once staunchly left now voting for the right?
by Anonymous | reply 39 | September 25, 2022 3:29 PM |
R39, northing you say, including your boast that you speak fluent Italian, has anthing to do with what I said: that her party comes from Neo-Fascism.
"Brothers of Italy emerged from a right-wing split within Silvio Berlusconi's party, The People of Freedom (PdL), in December 2012. The bulk of the party leadership (including Meloni), as well as the symbol of the movement (the tricolour flame), comes from the National Alliance (AN, 1995–2009) party, which had merged into PdL in 2009. AN was the heir to the Italian Social Movement (MSI, 1945–1995), a neo-fascist party founded by former members of the banned National Fascist Party (1921–1943) and the Republican Fascist Party (1943–1945)."

And the PD comes from alliances with the Communists. And so? This is the year 2022.
Same for The Sweden Democrats. Lots of talk in the US press about their Nazis roots and yet the Swedes....the progressive liberal Swedes....citizens of the country that has been a model for the left, are now voting for right.
Why is that? Do tell us.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | September 25, 2022 7:44 PM |
R43, because a lot of countries, due to things like xenophobia, often turn toward right-wing or hard right-wing. Do you really need this explained? The pendulum often swings in both directions of left and right.
Amusing how you brush off the neo-fascist roots of this ratbag and her "brotherhood" party.
As for R42, the very notion of a far-right political party calling itself a brotherhood smacks of old-style Nazism and Fascism. They're not calling themselves a "sisterhood," are they?

The USA has no real culture but Europe has thousands of years of culture. We have distinctive cultures from country to country and we seek to sustain them. We're not a melting pot.

On many issues the Italian right is left of the Democrats let alone the GOP.

Americans love teaching other countries how to live.
The US, a country that leaves its citizens in debt for health care, for education with 10s of thousands of dollars in debt, a country with third world rates of homicide and other violent crimes. Shithole cities. But it want to preach to others.

She's authoritarian, a racist, an extreme Islamophobe (and I'm not pro-Islam, by any means). She pretended that she had softened her views, and pretended she was, if not pro-gay, gay accepting. I thought she was dangerous and a liar. And she took a huge loan from Putin to run her campaign.

R122: Extreme nationalism against what's perceived in France as an enemy, even though, with a Muslim population of 6 million, a handful are terrorists. Her hostility toward French Muslims and pitting them against “traditional France” is xenophobic. So that's two big things right there: extreme nationalism and xenophobia, including banning religious attire in public schools, full-face coverings in public spaces and burkinis on public beaches. Passing a bill that gives the state power to monitor Muslim religious observance and organizations. How about that?
And she hates gays and lies about it.

What is amazing about this thread is how many people are willing to say that by explaining a situation and why Italy and Sweden have lurched to the Right that you must be Fascist.
WTF
Jews have been leaving France and Sweden for years now because of anti semitism from immigrants. Fact.
The whole reason so many people admire Scandinavia is because the core belief that you are protected financially with high taxes the same way others are. If you have a whole group that does not contribute then that belief becomes shattered. Not to mention that the Scandinavian view of liberal views are diametrically opposed to people who want separate pools for the sexes and hate Gay people.
If you go to parts of Europe you are confronted by the problems head on. The Left have basically had the same answer. You must be a bigot and don’t vote Right.
This is what happens when this occurs . Simple.

Meloni was 19 when she was first interviewed by foreign media while canvassing for an election campaign in her native Rome. She told French reporters at the time that, “[fascist dictator Benito] Mussolini was a good politician, in that everything he did, he did for Italy.”
by Anonymous | reply 161 | September 26, 2022 1:18 AM |
In 1992, at 15 years old, Meloni joined the Youth Front, the youth-wing of the neo-fascist Italian Social Movement (MSI).[1] In these years, she founded the student coordination Gli Antenati (The Ancestors), which took part in the protest against the public education reform promoted by minister Rosa Russo Iervolino.[4]
In 1996, she earned a diploma in the Amerigo Vespucci Institute.[2] Meloni declared that she obtained the high school diploma in languages at the Institute "Amerigo Vespucci" of Rome, with the final mark of 60/60.[5] But it turned out the school was not a foreign language high school (and therefore qualified to issue a diploma in languages), rather a technical high school specialized in the tourist industry.[5][6] This created a controversy on whether she lied about her diploma.[7]

In November 2018, Meloni declared that the celebration of the Liberation Day, also known as the Anniversary of Italy's Liberation from Nazi-Fascism on 25 April, and Festa della Repubblica, which celebrates the birth of the Italian Republic on 2 June, should be substituted with the National Unity and Armed Forces Day on 4 November, which commemorates Italy's victory in World War I. She said that Liberation Day and Festa della Repubblica are "two controversial celebrations".[135] She has tried to distance herself[136] from her close ties to Roberto Jonghi Lavarini, a far-right Milanese politician and entrepreneur known as the "Black Barron".

Meloni believes in a planned mass replacement, also known as Kalergi Plan conspiracy theory, from Africa to Europe that wants to replace and eliminate the Italian population.[101][102][103] Meloni has been criticized due to her statements on vaccines and COVID-19, such as not vaccinating her daughter,[104][105][106] and claiming the probability of someone aged 0–19 dying from COVID-19 to be the same as being struck by lightning.
by Anonymous | reply 168 | September 26, 2022 1:22 AM |
Meloni opposes abortions and laws that recognise same-sex partnerships or marriages.[79] At a rally at the Piazza del Popolo in October 2019, she spoke against same-sex parenting; her speech became viral on Italian social media platforms.[80] Meloni is also opposed to DDL Zan, an anti-homophobia law, declaring that in Italy "there is no homophobia".[81] She had also said that she would "rather not have a gay child" during a Le Iene interview, an Italian television show.[82][83] Meloni is supportive of the anti-gender movement, a belief born in the mid-1990s in the circles of the Opus Dei in order to condemn any social position other than that approved by the Catholic Church, opposing gender studies.[84][85][86] She is supportive of changing the Constitution of Italy in order to make it illegal for same-sex couples to adopt children.[87] In March 2018, Meloni argued with The Walt Disney Company for the decision to represent a gay couple in the musical fantasy movie Frozen II, writing on her social networks: "Enough! We are sick of it! Take your hands off the children."

[quote]ABC News
COPENHAGEN, Denmark -- Two more suspects have been arrested in connection with a deadly shooting during the Norwegian capital’s annual LGBTQ Pride festival, police said Monday. The total number of suspects is now at four.
A 42-year-old Norwegian citizen originally from Iran was arrested shortly after the June shootings in Oslo’s nightlife district that killed two people and wounded more than 20. A second Norwegian man in his 40s is being sought, police said Friday.
On Monday, police said two more suspects — a man in his 40s with Somali citizenship and a Norwegian national in his 30s — were arrested Sunday. Both are known to the police, authorities said, adding that they are residents of Oslo.
They faces preliminary charges of “complicity in an act of terrorism,” police said.
The suspect who has not yet been detained, Arfan Bhatti, is believed to be in Pakistan. Norwegian police said that, “to ensure the best possible cooperation with the Pakistani authorities, we had officials from the Oslo police district in Pakistan a short time ago. ”
Bhatti allegedly posted online statements about killing gay people. Media reports said he knew Zaniar Matapour, the main suspect in the June 25 attack that the Norwegian Police Security Service has called an “Islamist terror act.”
Matapour who according to Norwegian media arrived in Norway with his family from a Kurdish part of Iran in the 1990s, faces preliminary charges of murder and attempted murder.
The names of the suspects arrested Sunday were not given.

Europe has a millennia of history scapegoating Jews, a target familiar to every single European across the political spectrum, e.g., leftist Corbyn in Engalnd, rightest Meloni in Italy.
Since Meloni is so intent on blaming someone for Italy's current social ills, she should start with Federica Mogherini, Italy's Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, who was instrumental in fomenting Italy's and the rest of the EU's current social ills:

R210 Completely out of context and mistranslated (תִלְחָץ for example means press, not vex הקנית), which is often the problem with ignorance of the source language. Treatment of גרים/גר in Jewish society is mentioned in two places, Shmot and Devarim:
וַאֲהַבְתֶּם, אֶת-הַגֵּר: כִּי-גֵרִים הֱיִיתֶם, בְּאֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם Devarim 10:19
וְגֵר, לֹא תִלְחָץ; וְאַתֶּם, יְדַעְתֶּם אֶת-נֶפֶשׁ הַגֵּר--כִּי-גֵרִים הֱיִיתֶם, בְּאֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם. Shmot 23:9
In both cases, the word גרים/גר means someone not of your community who sojourns temporarily in your community. Not someone who invades your community and takes up permanent residence for an easier life. גרים/גר also means someone not Jewish who permanently joins the Jewish nation, adopting the laws and practices of the Jewish nation. Aoso not an apt description of the invaders.

You have been totally brainwashed into thinking that people must think the same, act the same, dress the same, look the same. You're retards! And there are so many different reasons to vote for her: she's against the psychopandemic restrictions (allegedly, we'll have to see), she's posied to put a stop to illegal mass immigration, she wants to edit the Constitution to allow citizens to directly elect the next President of the Republic and generally stand up for Italy more in Europe. Meanwhile, the left be talking about the sex of angels, asterisks at the end of words so as not to offend either gender, rainbow-colored clothes and shit like that. They've gone from the party of the poor and underprivileged to the party of celebrities, elites and bougie. No wonder every single actor and singer and influencer known to man spent the past 3 months campaigning for the Demonrattic Party )which basically meant insulting the right)

I have to admit, I am not sure if she has moved away from fascism. She did get her start in a fascist youth group, she is head of a party that grew out of fascism, but it seems complicated and tangled and something to do with people getting pissed at Berlusconi (her coalition partner, so that's a mess too I imagine), and other things that I'm guessing only Italians would understand or care about. But there is some connection to fascism for her and for her party deep down, and that ain't great.
There's no question she's a homophobe. She dislikes us and wishes we didn't exist, no question. She has very, very reluctantly accepted that "these fags can have their civil unions, for now," but no adoption, since in her mind we're all no doubt pedophiles and groomers. So maybe she's more wingnut Catholic than Fascist these days, but either way, she hates us and any gay person looking to her as a great leader is being a cunt and a fool.

I admit I'm intrigued that she sees Tolkien and Lord of the Rings as a big influence on her. Is she a romantic, is this all a bit of a fantasy world to her? Not sure.

R219, she moved against celebrating the end of fascism in Italy just a few years ago.

Like most Americans I never heard of this bitch before about a week ago, so still trying to figure out how much is real and how much is partisan. But from this very pro-Meloni Spectator article,
[quote]She herself has a five-year-old daughter but is not married to the father, a TV journalist, because although she believes in traditional family values, he does not.
So, strict Bible based morality right up until the minute she feels like fucking some guy out of wedlock and having a kid?

R225 'The Spectator' frequently has intelligent articles way above the standard of Datalounge.

I'm baffled by how ignorant illiterate Mrkans who don't even know this woman at all (and probably couldn't even locate Italy on a map) call a DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED Prime Minister, the first woman in the country's history, a fascist just because she's not a libturd. Goes to show how aggressive, violent, intolerant, uneducated and moronic they are. No wonder the left is losing all over the world. You are the scum of the planet

This is from the Spectator article at R225:
"In the past eight years, about 750,000 migrants have crossed the 300 miles of Mediterranean that separate Libya from Sicily – many ferried across by NGO charity vessels on permanent standby. Such numbers make the fuss about those crossing to England from France seem petty."
So the Italians had a choice: vote for the left, who are in favor of all that mentioned above.
Or vote for the right who is against it.
So you guys tell me....how would you have expected the Italians to vote?

More stupidity from uninformed Americans.
Actually Italians are very wary of this war and not happy about what is going to happen to their energy bills this winter. And historically it is the Italian left that has been more sympathetic to Russia. An anti-war stance would not have hurt Meloni in the least amoung the Italian electorate.

Oh come on. I think something may have changed around 1989 to make a lot of the left rethink its support of Russia. Don't know about Europe, but here in the U.S. the Putinistas are wingnuts, like Tucker Carlson who worships the guy. I suspect in Europe the current dictator of Russia's support comes a lot more from the Right than the Left, but maybe I am wrong about that. Am I?

I'm sure he knows that r249. He just wants to evade the question for some reason, the question being isn't Putinism a rightwing phenomenon around the world and has nothing to do with any traditional "leftist" support for Russia, which of course was really leftist support for the Soviet Union.

You know nothing about Italy.
The latest polling from Ipsos 22 settembre 2022
"Oltre un terzo degli italiani crede che in qualche modo la Nato costituisca una minaccia per la Russia..."
"Over a third of Italians believe that NATO in some way constitutes a threat to Russia ..."
......................................................
"Quasi un italiano su due non prende le parti né della Russia, né dell'Ucraina. Sotto quota 50% il sostegno all'Ucraina e Kyiv..."
"Almost one in two Italians does not take sides either in Russia or in Ukraine. Support for Ukraine and Kyiv is below 50% ... "
by Anonymous | reply 252 | September 28, 2022 7:36 PM |
Hey! I support Russia!
by Anonymous | reply 253 | September 28, 2022 7:39 PM |
That has absolutely nothing to do with the question I asked r252. Nothing at all. That is overall polling for the entire country, not particular factions within it, and really is more about how some people feel about NATO overall and its impact on Russia and a question about who cares about the war. So what? I bet a lot of Americans don't care about the war. Hell most Americans probably didn't give a shit about the Iraq War, and we were in it. Most people don't give a shit about shit. So what? The truth is, those that do care, and do support Putin's little wilding expedition do it overwhelmingly for wingnut reasons. They like that he is reviving Czarism in Russia, namely Autocracy, Nationalism, and Orthodoxy, and wish somebody would do that at home.
It's actually a good thing that Meloni doesn't seem to fall into that camp. Though if there is one consistent thing about Fascism, it fucking loves War. It's almost the whole point of Fascism, war and conquest as the health of the State. Maybe she just loves there's a war going on, anywhere for whatever reason.

No I'm talking about Fascism, r257, although yes, the U.S. has had a lot of wars especially since World War II. I think technically we are at war somewhere in some sense pretty constantly. The weird and maybe horrifying truth is that the average American neither knows or cares about the vast majority of these conflict.
But in fairness, I'm not sure Meloni is really a fascist, in some deep down ideological sense of the word. Here's Mussolini talking about war and peace, and I'm not sure she really believes this kind of thing:
[quote]Fascism does not, generally speaking, believe in the possibility or utility of perpetual peace. It therefore discards pacifism as a cloak for cowardly supine renunciation in contradistinction to self-sacrifice. War alone keys up all human energies to their maximum tension and sets the seal of nobility on those peoples who have the courage to face it.
I actually wonder how much of Mussolini's fascism she actually embraces at all. She hates immigrants, that much is clear, and she seems to hate gays and trans, and probably embraces all the bullshit of Leviticus, but how much of the whole real Fascist program she really cares about, I don't know.
by Anonymous | reply 259 | September 28, 2022 8:14 PM |
[quote]She hates immigrants, that much is clear...
That much seems clear only to people with simplistic reasoning like you.
Being against uncontrolled mass immigration does not mean that one "hates immigrants".
But these are the straw men people like you thrive on.
by Anonymous | reply 260 | September 28, 2022 8:19 PM |
You honestly think she stops at "uncontrolled mass immigration" r260. Maybe you do, but does she, really, in your view?
by Anonymous | reply 261 | September 28, 2022 8:20 PM |
Italy needs immigrants. Every Italian knows that. Every business in Italy knows that. Everyone has friends who are immigrants.
"Hating immigrants" would be the political death of Meloni.
But for the simple minded, being against uncontrolled mass immigration = hating immigrants.
by Anonymous | reply 262 | September 28, 2022 8:35 PM |
So it's just the uncontrolled nature of the immigration, r262? Some controlled immigration of a lot of North African and Middle Eastern Muslims, that would be okay with most Italians, r262? What is the source of her appeal here, really? It's purely a matter of regulation?
by Anonymous | reply 263 | September 28, 2022 8:38 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 267 | September 28, 2022 9:07 PM |
You do realize how Socialist governments such as Sweden can keep all those 'free' programs running? Their immigration polices are very strict. Immigrants cannot simply move to Sweden.
If your job is relocated to Sweden, that's different, but immigrants cannot simply move there. A friend, whose job is based in Manhattan. moved to Sweden for a year to help set up the Swedish branch of the firm he works for, when the year was up, he had to go home.
