Meloni leads Fratelli d’Italia, or Brothers of Italy – a party whose lineage traces back to fascists

" Political provocateur set to become Italy’s first far-right leader since Mussolini"

And that worked out so well for him.

Well, I must be going. Satan can't minion himself.

And let's face it. It's the only way I'm getting a pearl necklace these days.

by Anonymousreply 1September 20, 2022 8:51 AM

Most people in the First World countries hate immigrant from the Third World. But I really can't understand the obsession-compulsion of opening borders to those ugly, homophobic immigrants by the progressive liberal left. It seem like a self-sabotage, suicide mission to me.

by Anonymousreply 2September 20, 2022 9:00 AM

^ it’s probably driven excessive liberal guilt and self- hate

That’s the only rational reason I can think of

by Anonymousreply 3September 20, 2022 9:35 AM

* driven by

by Anonymousreply 4September 20, 2022 9:42 AM

I hope she enjoys being strung up by her ankles. Italians don’t play when they’re finally tired of their politicians.

by Anonymousreply 5September 20, 2022 10:27 AM

So long as it's not Christopher Meloni.

by Anonymousreply 6September 20, 2022 10:57 AM

Tankies tell me Mussolini was wrong for nationalism but wasn't that bad of a guy.

by Anonymousreply 7September 20, 2022 11:04 AM

OP, what is that ratbag link you've given us?

Ratbags aren't us.

by Anonymousreply 8September 20, 2022 11:19 AM

At least the trains will run on time (or else).

by Anonymousreply 9September 20, 2022 11:58 AM

Didn’t they have a so called “far right” leader about 5 years ago? It is almost as if “far right” is just a boogieman term used to demonize any politician who doesn’t want to import refugees at the expense of the local people and doesn’t actually mean anything.

by Anonymousreply 10September 20, 2022 12:04 PM

R10, maybe try Wikipedia.

by Anonymousreply 11September 20, 2022 12:25 PM

Shut up, you libturds. She's gonna take over the country on Sunday and all of you wokes globalists demonrats will have to vacate the premises

by Anonymousreply 12September 20, 2022 12:43 PM

Tomorrow night, she will take over the country and there's nothing you can do

by Anonymousreply 13September 24, 2022 8:14 PM

So far this whole thread is wingnuts pretending that immigrants enter first world countries because of "wokism" and not because of plutocrats' desire for cheap labor. Can't have it both ways, wingnuts!

by Anonymousreply 14September 24, 2022 8:18 PM

Luckily and following tradition, the ruling parties will start squabbling almost immediately and not much will be done. Non-caretaker governments in Italy don't tend to last very long.

by Anonymousreply 15September 24, 2022 8:18 PM

I learned growing up in the 80s from women on TV that if women ruled the world, it would be a more peaceful and loving place.

Yet here in the US, there seem to be as many insanely hateful Christian women as there are men in leadership roles. In France, the leading Nazi is a woman. In Italy, too, it seems. And the worst person I've ever known and worked with was a woman who took sincere glee in making people suffer.

by Anonymousreply 16September 24, 2022 8:21 PM

r16 You know nothing about Italy, so you might wanna shut the fuck up, you retard

by Anonymousreply 17September 24, 2022 8:22 PM

The right wing gets into power by hammering a few things (here it’s immigrants and inflation) and soon enough gays are being burned at the stake

by Anonymousreply 18September 24, 2022 8:22 PM

R17, R16 is exactly right

by Anonymousreply 19September 24, 2022 8:23 PM

If you weren't such a bunch of retarded leftist fags, you would know that the Demonrattic party has run Italy for 15 years despite NEVER winning the elections and has been insulting the right for the past 3 months of political campaign. They are the fascits. You are the fascists

by Anonymousreply 20September 24, 2022 8:23 PM

The media, just like ABC, BBC and CNN, is completely controlled by the left, just like the judiciary. And you call the right fascist? You're a bunch of retards who will buy anything the TV tells them. They call Meloni "fascist" or "far-right" just because she opposed retarded wokes like you, just because she disagrees with them. That's because leftists are allergic to democracy and only like it when they win

by Anonymousreply 21September 24, 2022 8:25 PM

[Quote] Most people in the First World countries hate immigrant from the Third World. But I really can't understand the obsession-compulsion of opening borders to those ugly, homophobic immigrants by the progressive liberal left. It seem like a self-sabotage, suicide mission to me.

With a birthrate near zero in Western Europe and the US, there’s desperation for workers. Businesses need them but the people hate seeing others who are not like them in society.

by Anonymousreply 22September 24, 2022 8:25 PM

She will gain 30-35% of the votes tomorrow and kick the motherfucking left to the curb after 15 years. Whether you like it or not. So you might wanna start packing your bags, you fags, and go back to your Commiefornian cities riddled with hobos and junkies

by Anonymousreply 23September 24, 2022 8:26 PM

NaziNate is rather annoying.

I'm going to put your invisibility cloak on you, Nate.

Nite nite, Nate.

by Anonymousreply 24September 24, 2022 8:27 PM

Stupid fags, you will believe anything the "progressive" media has to say. Idiots. They label anyone who doesn't abide by their woke ideologies "far right", so they'll have an excuse to insult them when they democratically win. Retarded fags

Can we all agree to block this aggressively homophobic rightist calling himself Nate C.?

by Anonymousreply 27September 24, 2022 8:29 PM

Funny, in Italy her party The Brothers Of Italy is referred to as "center right" not far right.

The Anglosphere press is doing such a hit job on her, but they rarely interview Italians who were once staunchly voting for the left but now vote for the right.

by Anonymousreply 28September 24, 2022 8:41 PM

r28 She's quite conservative and essentially anti-euro and shit (even though she can't really say it or they'll lambast her even more than they already do), but she's not how the media portray her at all. She's never said one word against gays and neither has Salvini. It's just a skewed portrayed from the mainstream media, entirely controlled by the left

by Anonymousreply 29September 24, 2022 8:44 PM

Great. Just what the world needs. Another fascist cunt.

by Anonymousreply 31September 25, 2022 2:22 PM

Never said a word against gay people, huh, R29? And I quote from her mouth: ""Yes to natural families, no to the LGBT lobby!" That's from a soeech she gave.

You're not very smart, are you?

by Anonymousreply 32September 25, 2022 2:25 PM

Italians love a fascist.

by Anonymousreply 33September 25, 2022 2:28 PM

I've noticed this nate person the last few weeks spouting. No more. Blocked as are all trolls.

by Anonymousreply 34September 25, 2022 2:30 PM

Italy makes beautiful men (when they're young) and has made beautiful art, and some of the land is beautiful.

But also: Donatella Versace. Versace clothes. Theresa Giudice. The Vatican. The mafia. Guys who like Ducatis.

I guess to maintain universal balance, it needs to produce an abomination to go with every blessing.

by Anonymousreply 35September 25, 2022 2:33 PM

R34 You'd think Muriel could ban someone who calls people on her gay message board stupid fags...

by Anonymousreply 36September 25, 2022 2:34 PM

Maybe, R36, this ratbag needs to be brought to her attention.

by Anonymousreply 37September 25, 2022 2:35 PM

R37 That's why I mentioned Muriel by name. It's like saying Glinda's name...sometimes speaking it brings her out of the ether to work her magic.

by Anonymousreply 38September 25, 2022 2:41 PM

[quote]if you did any reading, you'd see the roots of that so-called movement are directly from Fascism.

Unlike you, I speak Italian fluently. I lived and worked in the country for over 3 decades.

AND the small city I lived in was governed by her party. A place that for 70 years (up until 6 years ago) voted exclusively for the left.

Let's see how much reading you've done: why are regions of Italy that were once staunchly left now voting for the right?

by Anonymousreply 39September 25, 2022 3:29 PM

R39, northing you say, including your boast that you speak fluent Italian, has anthing to do with what I said: that her party comes from Neo-Fascism.

"Brothers of Italy emerged from a right-wing split within Silvio Berlusconi's party, The People of Freedom (PdL), in December 2012. The bulk of the party leadership (including Meloni), as well as the symbol of the movement (the tricolour flame), comes from the National Alliance (AN, 1995–2009) party, which had merged into PdL in 2009. AN was the heir to the Italian Social Movement (MSI, 1945–1995), a neo-fascist party founded by former members of the banned National Fascist Party (1921–1943) and the Republican Fascist Party (1943–1945)."

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 40September 25, 2022 4:23 PM

Brothers of Italy? What kind of name is that--"Brothers"?

Oh, right--a fascist name, with a fascist symbol.

by Anonymousreply 41September 25, 2022 4:33 PM

R41 Something wrong with the word "fratelli"? Explain.

by Anonymousreply 42September 25, 2022 7:38 PM

[quote]northing you say, including your boast that you speak fluent Italian, has anthing to do with what I said: that her party comes from Neo-Fascism.

And the PD comes from alliances with the Communists. And so? This is the year 2022.

Same for The Sweden Democrats. Lots of talk in the US press about their Nazis roots and yet the Swedes....the progressive liberal Swedes....citizens of the country that has been a model for the left, are now voting for right.

Why is that? Do tell us.

by Anonymousreply 43September 25, 2022 7:44 PM

R43, because a lot of countries, due to things like xenophobia, often turn toward right-wing or hard right-wing. Do you really need this explained? The pendulum often swings in both directions of left and right.

Amusing how you brush off the neo-fascist roots of this ratbag and her "brotherhood" party.

As for R42, the very notion of a far-right political party calling itself a brotherhood smacks of old-style Nazism and Fascism. They're not calling themselves a "sisterhood," are they?

by Anonymousreply 44September 25, 2022 8:18 PM

[quote]They're not calling themselves a "sisterhood," are they?

Just one more example of your stupidity.

I guess you use the term "Latinx" too.

by Anonymousreply 45September 25, 2022 8:25 PM

horrible

by Anonymousreply 46September 25, 2022 8:27 PM

[Quote]because a lot of countries, due to things like xenophobia, often turn toward right-wing

Xenophobia? Oh, gurl. Europe is sick of being run-over by immigrants from shithole countries who commit crime. We'll vote for anybody who promises to stop it.

The USA has no real culture but Europe has thousands of years of culture. We have distinctive cultures from country to country and we seek to sustain them. We're not a melting pot.

by Anonymousreply 47September 25, 2022 8:30 PM

Fuck off, you driveling Mary, R45.

R47, if turning to hard-right fascist leaders is Europe's answer, good luck with that. They'll get sick of them soon enough. Europe never learns, does it?

As for the USA having "no real culture," what the fuck would you know about that, anyway, bitch?

by Anonymousreply 48September 25, 2022 8:33 PM

great! go Meloni! Portugal next!

by Anonymousreply 49September 25, 2022 8:34 PM

Both Italy and Portugal are shit holes. Who cares?

by Anonymousreply 50September 25, 2022 8:35 PM

In the meantime the EU says it has "ways" of making Italy "comply" if the voting doesn't go right.

Honest, they said that.

You can't make this shit up and yet all you gays think there no threat of liberty from libs.

by Anonymousreply 51September 25, 2022 8:35 PM

Why do rightwing women, even the Italian ones, all look like ugly Barbie dolls?

by Anonymousreply 52September 25, 2022 8:36 PM

Please give evidence of that, neo-fascist R51.

by Anonymousreply 53September 25, 2022 8:39 PM

Is she to the right of the GOP here?

by Anonymousreply 54September 25, 2022 8:41 PM

[quote]In the meantime the EU says it has "ways" of making Italy "comply" if the voting doesn't go right.

The EU wants Italy to be the dumping ground for migrants.

BTW: I wish you all would read about Denmark's immigration policy.

Funny that the US press never talks about it.

"Funny that the US press never talks about it."

Oh, don't worry, R55, the US has its own fascist wing obsessed with migrants. It's called the GOP.

by Anonymousreply 57September 25, 2022 8:44 PM

[quote]Is she to the right of the GOP here?

On many issues the Italian right is left of the Democrats let alone the GOP.

Free education, universal health care, a social safety net etc.

They're socially conservative but abortion laws and gay rights will not be changed. Not advanced, but not changed from what they are now.

by Anonymousreply 58September 25, 2022 8:45 PM

[quote]She's a fascist cunt, [R54], like Marine LePen and other cunts on this thread who are defending her and cheering her on.

And what's your opinion of Mette Frederiksen. See post at R55.

by Anonymousreply 59September 25, 2022 8:47 PM

"On many issues the Italian right is left of the Democrats"

Absolute bullshit, R58. And this cunt is no leaning Italian-style Democrat.

by Anonymousreply 60September 25, 2022 8:47 PM

R60 No you're wrong. Free education, universal health care, a social safety net etc....the Italian right is in favor of them. Things that haven't even been implemented in the US. And probably never will be.

by Anonymousreply 61September 25, 2022 8:49 PM

R61, many of those things are part of the Democratic Parry platform, but are stymied because of the right-wing GOP.

by Anonymousreply 62September 25, 2022 8:50 PM

It's a shame that Italy is willing to embrace this cunt, but let's face it, with 70 leaders in 77 years, one doesn't look to Italy for logic when it comes to choosing their political leaders.

by Anonymousreply 63September 25, 2022 8:55 PM

France was a little smarter in tht they didn't elect LePen, but not that much smarter, considering how close she got.

by Anonymousreply 64September 25, 2022 8:57 PM

[quote]It's a shame that Italy is willing to embrace this cunt, but let's face it, with 70 leaders in 77 years, one doesn't look to Italy for logic when it comes to choosing their political leaders.

You understand nothing about the Italian political system.

by Anonymousreply 65September 25, 2022 8:58 PM

Oh, so there's some logic in 70 leaders in 77 years, R65? Do tell.

by Anonymousreply 66September 25, 2022 9:02 PM

[quote]Oh, so there's some logic in 70 leaders in 77 years, [R65]? Do tell.

No, you tell us: how does any of that affect the lives of Italians?

Americans love teaching other countries how to live.

The US, a country that leaves its citizens in debt for health care, for education with 10s of thousands of dollars in debt, a country with third world rates of homicide and other violent crimes. Shithole cities. But it want to preach to others.

You want Italians to accept uncontrolled mass immigration from Africa. Italians don't want it. Tough shit.

by Anonymousreply 67September 25, 2022 9:16 PM

R67, what does any of that have to do with 70 leaders in 77 years? I asked you to explain, and yet you deflect.

by Anonymousreply 68September 25, 2022 9:18 PM

^But you want to preach to others.

by Anonymousreply 69September 25, 2022 9:18 PM

No, R69, I'm asking you how 70 leaders in 77 years has worked for Italy. Stop deflecting.

by Anonymousreply 70September 25, 2022 9:20 PM

R70 Because you're stupid, you don't know that France has had more governments since 1946 than Italy. Italy 65. France 66. The UK 25. Germany 24.

by Anonymousreply 71September 25, 2022 9:22 PM

Silence from R69. I guess she's not the font of knowledge on Italy she pretends to be, yet accuses me of not knowing anything about Italian politics. When I asked to be educated on the matter, supposedly from an expert like R69, she deflects and then accusesme of preaching!

by Anonymousreply 72September 25, 2022 9:22 PM

The question was answered. No matter how many governments the quality and longevity of life is still better in Italy than the USA.

by Anonymousreply 73September 25, 2022 9:24 PM

R71, are you suggesting Italy has been considered steady and stable in its political history of the last 70 years?

by Anonymousreply 74September 25, 2022 9:24 PM

What's the longevity of life in Italy, R73?

by Anonymousreply 75September 25, 2022 9:25 PM

R75 Compare it to the US:

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 76September 25, 2022 9:27 PM

I just did, R73: Italy is number 6 at 84 years, the US is no. 46 at 79 years. And Japan is #2. The same survey as you. And Italy's governements are still a mess.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 77September 25, 2022 9:28 PM

And yes, we used the same survey. And this is your excuse for defending a right-wing fascist-leaning cunt to take over Italy, R76?

by Anonymousreply 78September 25, 2022 9:29 PM

I wouldn't want to live to 84 years in a fascist country. I hope Italy snaps out of it.

by Anonymousreply 79September 25, 2022 9:30 PM

I'm looking forward to her win.

by Anonymousreply 80September 25, 2022 9:31 PM

R79 Yes, there going to be rounding up Jews and gays! Just you wait!

by Anonymousreply 81September 25, 2022 9:32 PM

R80 just loves fascist-leaning right-wingers.

by Anonymousreply 82September 25, 2022 9:32 PM

R82 Just loves living in a shithole.

by Anonymousreply 83September 25, 2022 9:33 PM

R81, there are other things fascists do. Rounding up Jews and gays is not something I see happening. But thanks for bloviating.

by Anonymousreply 84September 25, 2022 9:33 PM

R83, I don't. I live in a highrise in the middle of Manhattan with a balcony and a view.

by Anonymousreply 85September 25, 2022 9:34 PM

How what, R114?

by Anonymousreply 115September 25, 2022 11:06 PM

Very amusing how many of the Giorgia Meloni stans are cowards who won't say anything about Marine Le Pen, who is essentially the French version of this cunt.

by Anonymousreply 116September 25, 2022 11:08 PM

[quote]And how do you feel about Le Pen, [R112]?

I saw her debate with Macron. I will say, she really doesn't seem up to running a country.

However, she's certainly tapped into French sentiment on many issues and Macron has adjusted accordingly adopting some of her stance on Islam and immigration. And that is smart of him. Dismissing her as you do, is stupid.

I'm not French and don't know how I would have voted in their election.

by Anonymousreply 117September 25, 2022 11:20 PM

"Dismissing her as you do, is stupid."

I didn't dismiss her, R117. On the contrary, I took her very seriously. I said I see her as the French version of this cunt. And if you're not sure how you would have voted if you were French, that says a lot.

Le Pen's, R119? You mean, apart from the fact that she was the head of a party that long housed Nazi collaborators? She's authoritarian, a racist, an extreme Islamophobe (and I'm not pro-Islam, by any means). She pretended that she had softened her views, and pretended she was, if not pro-gay, gay accepting. I thought she was dangerous and a liar. And she took a huge loan from Putin to run her campaign.

by Anonymousreply 122September 25, 2022 11:49 PM

R122: Extreme nationalism against what's perceived in France as an enemy, even though, with a Muslim population of 6 million, a handful are terrorists. Her hostility toward French Muslims and pitting them against “traditional France” is xenophobic. So that's two big things right there: extreme nationalism and xenophobia, including banning religious attire in public schools, full-face coverings in public spaces and burkinis on public beaches. Passing a bill that gives the state power to monitor Muslim religious observance and organizations. How about that?

And she hates gays and lies about it.

by Anonymousreply 123September 25, 2022 11:56 PM

What is amazing about this thread is how many people are willing to say that by explaining a situation and why Italy and Sweden have lurched to the Right that you must be Fascist.

WTF

Jews have been leaving France and Sweden for years now because of anti semitism from immigrants. Fact.

The whole reason so many people admire Scandinavia is because the core belief that you are protected financially with high taxes the same way others are. If you have a whole group that does not contribute then that belief becomes shattered. Not to mention that the Scandinavian view of liberal views are diametrically opposed to people who want separate pools for the sexes and hate Gay people.

If you go to parts of Europe you are confronted by the problems head on. The Left have basically had the same answer. You must be a bigot and don’t vote Right.

This is what happens when this occurs . Simple.

If you don't think they're angling for the kind of state Orbán has built in Hungary—no independent press, no independent judiciary, no meaningful free enterprise; only anti-gay, anti-Semitic, pro-Putin crony capitalism—you're being naïve.

Don't try to tell us that a far-right party in Italy (or wherever) is just innocently trying to protect society from reactionary immigrants.

Neither the French nor the Italians need lessons from Americans on how to live.

Meloni was 19 when she was first interviewed by foreign media while canvassing for an election campaign in her native Rome. She told French reporters at the time that, “[fascist dictator Benito] Mussolini was a good politician, in that everything he did, he did for Italy.”

by Anonymousreply 161September 26, 2022 1:18 AM

In 1992, at 15 years old, Meloni joined the Youth Front, the youth-wing of the neo-fascist Italian Social Movement (MSI).[1] In these years, she founded the student coordination Gli Antenati (The Ancestors), which took part in the protest against the public education reform promoted by minister Rosa Russo Iervolino.[4]

In 1996, she earned a diploma in the Amerigo Vespucci Institute.[2] Meloni declared that she obtained the high school diploma in languages at the Institute "Amerigo Vespucci" of Rome, with the final mark of 60/60.[5] But it turned out the school was not a foreign language high school (and therefore qualified to issue a diploma in languages), rather a technical high school specialized in the tourist industry.[5][6] This created a controversy on whether she lied about her diploma.[7]

by Anonymousreply 162September 26, 2022 1:19 AM

She grew up brainwashed into fascism from a very early age.

Muslim women covering their faces isn't a choice. That's the problem. And, no other religious clothing hides the person's identity completely. If it's between women's rights and religious rights, I'll go with women every time. Fuck all religion. We should outlaw all of it.

by Anonymousreply 165September 26, 2022 1:20 AM

In November 2018, Meloni declared that the celebration of the Liberation Day, also known as the Anniversary of Italy's Liberation from Nazi-Fascism on 25 April, and Festa della Repubblica, which celebrates the birth of the Italian Republic on 2 June, should be substituted with the National Unity and Armed Forces Day on 4 November, which commemorates Italy's victory in World War I. She said that Liberation Day and Festa della Repubblica are "two controversial celebrations".[135] She has tried to distance herself[136] from her close ties to Roberto Jonghi Lavarini, a far-right Milanese politician and entrepreneur known as the "Black Barron".

by Anonymousreply 166September 26, 2022 1:21 AM

I agree, R165. Religion and fascism are the problems.

by Anonymousreply 167September 26, 2022 1:21 AM

Meloni believes in a planned mass replacement, also known as Kalergi Plan conspiracy theory, from Africa to Europe that wants to replace and eliminate the Italian population.[101][102][103] Meloni has been criticized due to her statements on vaccines and COVID-19, such as not vaccinating her daughter,[104][105][106] and claiming the probability of someone aged 0–19 dying from COVID-19 to be the same as being struck by lightning.

by Anonymousreply 168September 26, 2022 1:22 AM

Meloni opposes abortions and laws that recognise same-sex partnerships or marriages.[79] At a rally at the Piazza del Popolo in October 2019, she spoke against same-sex parenting; her speech became viral on Italian social media platforms.[80] Meloni is also opposed to DDL Zan, an anti-homophobia law, declaring that in Italy "there is no homophobia".[81] She had also said that she would "rather not have a gay child" during a Le Iene interview, an Italian television show.[82][83] Meloni is supportive of the anti-gender movement, a belief born in the mid-1990s in the circles of the Opus Dei in order to condemn any social position other than that approved by the Catholic Church, opposing gender studies.[84][85][86] She is supportive of changing the Constitution of Italy in order to make it illegal for same-sex couples to adopt children.[87] In March 2018, Meloni argued with The Walt Disney Company for the decision to represent a gay couple in the musical fantasy movie Frozen II, writing on her social networks: "Enough! We are sick of it! Take your hands off the children."

by Anonymousreply 169September 26, 2022 1:22 AM

by Anonymousreply 174September 26, 2022 1:34 AM

The population of Europe is around 746 million. The population of the U.S. is around 332 million. One country is roughly half the size of a continent. Small wonder that the U.S. doesn't have it together, the way an entire continent, under the aegis of the European Union, should and does.

[quote]Two more suspects have been arrested in connection to a deadly shooting during the Norwegian capital’s annual LGBTQ Pride festival

[quote]ABC News

COPENHAGEN, Denmark -- Two more suspects have been arrested in connection with a deadly shooting during the Norwegian capital’s annual LGBTQ Pride festival, police said Monday. The total number of suspects is now at four.

A 42-year-old Norwegian citizen originally from Iran was arrested shortly after the June shootings in Oslo’s nightlife district that killed two people and wounded more than 20. A second Norwegian man in his 40s is being sought, police said Friday.

On Monday, police said two more suspects — a man in his 40s with Somali citizenship and a Norwegian national in his 30s — were arrested Sunday. Both are known to the police, authorities said, adding that they are residents of Oslo.

They faces preliminary charges of “complicity in an act of terrorism,” police said.

The suspect who has not yet been detained, Arfan Bhatti, is believed to be in Pakistan. Norwegian police said that, “to ensure the best possible cooperation with the Pakistani authorities, we had officials from the Oslo police district in Pakistan a short time ago. ”

Bhatti allegedly posted online statements about killing gay people. Media reports said he knew Zaniar Matapour, the main suspect in the June 25 attack that the Norwegian Police Security Service has called an “Islamist terror act.”

Matapour who according to Norwegian media arrived in Norway with his family from a Kurdish part of Iran in the 1990s, faces preliminary charges of murder and attempted murder.

The names of the suspects arrested Sunday were not given.

Europe has a millennia of history scapegoating Jews, a target familiar to every single European across the political spectrum, e.g., leftist Corbyn in Engalnd, rightest Meloni in Italy.

Since Meloni is so intent on blaming someone for Italy's current social ills, she should start with Federica Mogherini, Italy's Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, who was instrumental in fomenting Italy's and the rest of the EU's current social ills:

R207 The newspaper publishers have an agenda. That agenda is communicated to the editor, who insures that journalists follow publisher guidelines by writing to agenda. Thou shalt neither vex a stranger, nor oppress him: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.

by Anonymousreply 210September 27, 2022 10:26 AM

R210 Completely out of context and mistranslated (תִלְחָץ for example means press, not vex הקנית), which is often the problem with ignorance of the source language. Treatment of גרים/גר in Jewish society is mentioned in two places, Shmot and Devarim:

וַאֲהַבְתֶּם, אֶת-הַגֵּר: כִּי-גֵרִים הֱיִיתֶם, בְּאֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם Devarim 10:19

וְגֵר, לֹא תִלְחָץ; וְאַתֶּם, יְדַעְתֶּם אֶת-נֶפֶשׁ הַגֵּר--כִּי-גֵרִים הֱיִיתֶם, בְּאֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם. Shmot 23:9

In both cases, the word גרים/גר means someone not of your community who sojourns temporarily in your community. Not someone who invades your community and takes up permanent residence for an easier life. גרים/גר also means someone not Jewish who permanently joins the Jewish nation, adopting the laws and practices of the Jewish nation. Aoso not an apt description of the invaders.

by Anonymousreply 211September 27, 2022 10:54 AM

I have to admit, I am not sure if she has moved away from fascism. She did get her start in a fascist youth group, she is head of a party that grew out of fascism, but it seems complicated and tangled and something to do with people getting pissed at Berlusconi (her coalition partner, so that's a mess too I imagine), and other things that I'm guessing only Italians would understand or care about. But there is some connection to fascism for her and for her party deep down, and that ain't great.

There's no question she's a homophobe. She dislikes us and wishes we didn't exist, no question. She has very, very reluctantly accepted that "these fags can have their civil unions, for now," but no adoption, since in her mind we're all no doubt pedophiles and groomers. So maybe she's more wingnut Catholic than Fascist these days, but either way, she hates us and any gay person looking to her as a great leader is being a cunt and a fool.

by Anonymousreply 219September 27, 2022 6:05 PM

I admit I'm intrigued that she sees Tolkien and Lord of the Rings as a big influence on her. Is she a romantic, is this all a bit of a fantasy world to her? Not sure.

by Anonymousreply 220September 27, 2022 6:10 PM

R219, she moved against celebrating the end of fascism in Italy just a few years ago.

by Anonymousreply 221September 27, 2022 6:11 PM

The woman has no education. She lied about her background. She’s as dumb and trashy as Trump. She also supports Putin.

She’s a fascist pig, doofus. It’s not up for debate.

by Anonymousreply 223September 27, 2022 6:13 PM

Why aren't all the pro-Meloni apologists on this thread heading off to Russia to make up for the hundreds of thousands of Russian men fleeing from conscription? Help your illiberal brethren out! If you're not over 65, that is.

by Anonymousreply 224September 27, 2022 6:16 PM

Like most Americans I never heard of this bitch before about a week ago, so still trying to figure out how much is real and how much is partisan. But from this very pro-Meloni Spectator article,

[quote]She herself has a five-year-old daughter but is not married to the father, a TV journalist, because although she believes in traditional family values, he does not.

So, strict Bible based morality right up until the minute she feels like fucking some guy out of wedlock and having a kid?

R225 'The Spectator' frequently has intelligent articles way above the standard of Datalounge.

But I'm automatically suspicious of any article with a question mark in its headline.

by Anonymousreply 226September 27, 2022 11:39 PM

R225 The Spectator is behind a paywall.

Will some kind man give us some excerpts?

I'm baffled by how ignorant illiterate Mrkans who don't even know this woman at all (and probably couldn't even locate Italy on a map) call a DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED Prime Minister, the first woman in the country's history, a fascist just because she's not a libturd. Goes to show how aggressive, violent, intolerant, uneducated and moronic they are. No wonder the left is losing all over the world. You are the scum of the planet

by Anonymousreply 229September 27, 2022 11:53 PM

[quote] ignorant illiterate Mrkans

They revel in their ignorance. They love telling the rest of the world what to think and how to behave.

by Anonymousreply 230September 27, 2022 11:54 PM

r230 I would love for nothing more than Italy to exit NATO and tell these fucktards to screw themselves, but that will never happen. Italy should no longer be their unofficial colony

by Anonymousreply 231September 27, 2022 11:57 PM

This is from the Spectator article at R225:

"In the past eight years, about 750,000 migrants have crossed the 300 miles of Mediterranean that separate Libya from Sicily – many ferried across by NGO charity vessels on permanent standby. Such numbers make the fuss about those crossing to England from France seem petty."

So the Italians had a choice: vote for the left, who are in favor of all that mentioned above.

Or vote for the right who is against it.

So you guys tell me....how would you have expected the Italians to vote?

Americans used to make the same kind of knee-jerk attacks against Italian communists years ago. They didn't know a thing about Italian communism then either.

There will be no roll back of laws.

She supports Ukraine and wants to increase arms supplies to Ukraine. Keep talking out your asses poorly informed Americans.

Keep deflecting from the here and now and arms supplies to Ukraine.

by Anonymousreply 243September 28, 2022 6:21 PM

Here’s the thing about fascists like Meloni: they lie. She had to say she supports Ukraine in order to win … but her actions once in office may tell a very different story.

by Anonymousreply 244September 28, 2022 6:32 PM

[quote]She had to say she supports Ukraine in order to win …

More stupidity from uninformed Americans.

Actually Italians are very wary of this war and not happy about what is going to happen to their energy bills this winter. And historically it is the Italian left that has been more sympathetic to Russia. An anti-war stance would not have hurt Meloni in the least amoung the Italian electorate.

by Anonymousreply 245September 28, 2022 6:41 PM

[quote]And historically it is the Italian left that has been more sympathetic to Russia.

Oh come on. I think something may have changed around 1989 to make a lot of the left rethink its support of Russia. Don't know about Europe, but here in the U.S. the Putinistas are wingnuts, like Tucker Carlson who worships the guy. I suspect in Europe the current dictator of Russia's support comes a lot more from the Right than the Left, but maybe I am wrong about that. Am I?

I'm sure he knows that r249. He just wants to evade the question for some reason, the question being isn't Putinism a rightwing phenomenon around the world and has nothing to do with any traditional "leftist" support for Russia, which of course was really leftist support for the Soviet Union.

You know nothing about Italy.

The latest polling from Ipsos 22 settembre 2022

"Oltre un terzo degli italiani crede che in qualche modo la Nato costituisca una minaccia per la Russia..."

"Over a third of Italians believe that NATO in some way constitutes a threat to Russia ..."

......................................................

"Quasi un italiano su due non prende le parti né della Russia, né dell'Ucraina. Sotto quota 50% il sostegno all'Ucraina e Kyiv..."

"Almost one in two Italians does not take sides either in Russia or in Ukraine. Support for Ukraine and Kyiv is below 50% ... "

by Anonymousreply 252September 28, 2022 7:36 PM

Hey! I support Russia!

by Anonymousreply 253September 28, 2022 7:39 PM

That has absolutely nothing to do with the question I asked r252. Nothing at all. That is overall polling for the entire country, not particular factions within it, and really is more about how some people feel about NATO overall and its impact on Russia and a question about who cares about the war. So what? I bet a lot of Americans don't care about the war. Hell most Americans probably didn't give a shit about the Iraq War, and we were in it. Most people don't give a shit about shit. So what? The truth is, those that do care, and do support Putin's little wilding expedition do it overwhelmingly for wingnut reasons. They like that he is reviving Czarism in Russia, namely Autocracy, Nationalism, and Orthodoxy, and wish somebody would do that at home.

It's actually a good thing that Meloni doesn't seem to fall into that camp. Though if there is one consistent thing about Fascism, it fucking loves War. It's almost the whole point of Fascism, war and conquest as the health of the State. Maybe she just loves there's a war going on, anywhere for whatever reason.

by Anonymousreply 254September 28, 2022 7:45 PM

Lady Gaga's next epic role, portraying this Fascist bitch, Giorgia Meloni.

by Anonymousreply 258September 28, 2022 7:59 PM

No I'm talking about Fascism, r257, although yes, the U.S. has had a lot of wars especially since World War II. I think technically we are at war somewhere in some sense pretty constantly. The weird and maybe horrifying truth is that the average American neither knows or cares about the vast majority of these conflict.

But in fairness, I'm not sure Meloni is really a fascist, in some deep down ideological sense of the word. Here's Mussolini talking about war and peace, and I'm not sure she really believes this kind of thing:

[quote]Fascism does not, generally speaking, believe in the possibility or utility of perpetual peace. It therefore discards pacifism as a cloak for cowardly supine renunciation in contradistinction to self-sacrifice. War alone keys up all human energies to their maximum tension and sets the seal of nobility on those peoples who have the courage to face it.

I actually wonder how much of Mussolini's fascism she actually embraces at all. She hates immigrants, that much is clear, and she seems to hate gays and trans, and probably embraces all the bullshit of Leviticus, but how much of the whole real Fascist program she really cares about, I don't know.

[quote]She hates immigrants, that much is clear...

That much seems clear only to people with simplistic reasoning like you.

Being against uncontrolled mass immigration does not mean that one "hates immigrants".

But these are the straw men people like you thrive on.

by Anonymousreply 260September 28, 2022 8:19 PM

You honestly think she stops at "uncontrolled mass immigration" r260. Maybe you do, but does she, really, in your view?

by Anonymousreply 261September 28, 2022 8:20 PM

Italy needs immigrants. Every Italian knows that. Every business in Italy knows that. Everyone has friends who are immigrants.

"Hating immigrants" would be the political death of Meloni.

But for the simple minded, being against uncontrolled mass immigration = hating immigrants.

by Anonymousreply 262September 28, 2022 8:35 PM

So it's just the uncontrolled nature of the immigration, r262? Some controlled immigration of a lot of North African and Middle Eastern Muslims, that would be okay with most Italians, r262? What is the source of her appeal here, really? It's purely a matter of regulation?

by Anonymousreply 263September 28, 2022 8:38 PM

R263 This is an article about Denmark. You know, liberal progressive Denmark. Read about their prime minister Mette Frederiksen. Meloni's stance is pretty much like hers.

You do realize how Socialist governments such as Sweden can keep all those 'free' programs running? Their immigration polices are very strict. Immigrants cannot simply move to Sweden.

If your job is relocated to Sweden, that's different, but immigrants cannot simply move there. A friend, whose job is based in Manhattan. moved to Sweden for a year to help set up the Swedish branch of the firm he works for, when the year was up, he had to go home.
