“ER” debuted 28 years ago tonight, on 9/19/94
Twenty eight years ago today, ER premiered. These six cast members didn’t have any idea just how much their lives was about to change.
Slightly over five thousand cast members walked through those doors at stage eleven. Creating life long friendships among several different cast members and even crew members.
The first season would finish as the #2 most watched show in the country, averaging 19.08 million viewers a week. The show was a smash hit with viewers, and hit with most critics alike. Season one would be nominated for multiple Emmy’s it’s debut season!
“Due to the show launching on NBC at the same time that CBS launched its own medical drama Chicago Hope, many critics drew comparisons between the two. Eric Mink concluded that ER may rate more highly in the Nielsens but Chicago Hope told better stories,[59] while Rich felt both shows were "riveting, superior TV fare."”

I'm watching the series from the beginning. About the middle of Season 2 now.
Makes me nostalgic for the 1990s ... The Last Great Decade.

Seasons 1-6 still hold up as excellent, along with scattered later episodes (the Dr. C stabbing). Mark’s lawyer wife is a total pain in the ass, as are some of Sherry Stringfield’s relatives. But Carol, Doug, Mark, Peter Benton, and Carter are note-perfect, as are so many of the nurses, whose faces I would recognize anywhere, and Jerry at the desk.
I still think at work, “You set the tone.” It’s so true.

And Friends premiered on NBC just three days later.

ER gave literally hundreds of good actors short term or recurring roles - (Sally Field, Frances Sternhagen, Paul McCrane, Stanley Tucci) but my favorites were guest stars who did memorable work in one or two episodes: Ed Asner as a con man who hoodwinks Carter; James Farentino as Clooney's slick father; Ray Liotta as a dying drunk; Bob Newhart as an architect going blind who takes a shine to Sherry Stringfield, and lots lots more. I did not care for Maura Tierney as sad sack Abby, or Thandie Newton as Carter's wife. And I didn't like the Africa episodes much either. But it was a great, very high quality show that holds up really well - I catch reruns on the Pop channel from time to time.
And DL fave KYLE RICHARDS appears as a nurse from time to time, usually with one line, like "His sats are dropping!"
