Like OP I don't even admire his work or career that much, more just his general ethic and way of being and look. He isn't remotely the most handsome or incredible guy in his field (pro soccer), but I just look at him and think, "that's it, that's what I want...or want to be...or both. I just need him." His personal qualities of grit and determination appeal to me, as does his ability to show up for people and defend them, and be outspoken and productive on serious matters. So I get how OP feels, as pathetic as it sounds. And--this is a bit Woo, sorry, bear with me here--somehow it sort of feels like I know him on some metaphysical plane, or at least recognise something subatomic about him, like our souls have met before in a previous existence or something.

Would never stalk or do anything weird about it, of course, only pining from afar--I've never even been to one of his games in person (think it would be too weird and awkward). He's a married rich man with security, I'm not getting near him even if I wanted. And even if we ever did meet by chance IRL I know I'd just freeze up or run away, I'm highly avoidant and shy.

I understand perfectly why you’re obsessed. I’ve been attracted to people in the past and had absolutely no interest in their work or art and, in some cases, even objected to their work or art.
