The Funeral of Queen Elizabeth II - Part 3
by Anonymous | reply 602 | September 20, 2022 3:25 PM |
I think I like this service better.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | September 19, 2022 3:40 PM |
Did they drill through the royal standard for the sceptres stand?
by Anonymous | reply 2 | September 19, 2022 3:41 PM |
I like the hardware for the orb and scepter!
by Anonymous | reply 3 | September 19, 2022 3:41 PM |
Sorry that I couldn't link this on the other thread; the other thread was locked by the time I got the chance.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | September 19, 2022 3:41 PM |
It is ingenious isn't it r3? So British.
Thanks OP! We got here.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | September 19, 2022 3:42 PM |
A girl in the choir?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | September 19, 2022 3:43 PM |
Earl Spencer and his Californian wife are there. I'll bet she SWERVES Meghan every time she gets within 50 feet. No one wants to be near her.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | September 19, 2022 3:44 PM |
Thanks OP! I was looking for the new thread, and thanks for opening one
by Anonymous | reply 8 | September 19, 2022 3:44 PM |
Yes, R6. And the guy next to her is damn cute.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | September 19, 2022 3:44 PM |
A LOT of foreskin in that room.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | September 19, 2022 3:44 PM |
Ahhhhhhmennnn.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | September 19, 2022 3:45 PM |
If the Windsors were Jewish, this would have been over on September 9. Babas could have sung Avinu Malkeinu and the ceremony would have been an hour tops.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | September 19, 2022 3:46 PM |
Meghan has sat throughout the whole day concentrating hard and taking mental notes. I wonder how many times she feels she’s been sidelined and slighted today.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | September 19, 2022 3:47 PM |
Bloody flag!
by Anonymous | reply 14 | September 19, 2022 3:47 PM |
My god its really over, the broke the stick. Coffin to be lowered soon.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | September 19, 2022 3:47 PM |
The wand was broken...so sad.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | September 19, 2022 3:47 PM |
The breaking of the rod signifies the breaking up of her Royal Household.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | September 19, 2022 3:47 PM |
Where do they open her coffin to put the flag into it. It must stink, royally.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | September 19, 2022 3:48 PM |
Yes r17 is correct, at that moment all of her Household are officially relieved of their duties to her.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | September 19, 2022 3:48 PM |
R12 Aveinu Malkenu is song at Yom Kippur. Not at funerals.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | September 19, 2022 3:48 PM |
Ah, this part is very sad.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | September 19, 2022 3:48 PM |
I wasn't expecting the services to be held in this chapel. Never seen it before.
Is it deep on royal grounds?
by Anonymous | reply 22 | September 19, 2022 3:48 PM |
Going into the earth.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | September 19, 2022 3:48 PM |
I wonder what MeMe Markle is thinking, after having threatened that she still hadn't told everything and that she was silent but she didn't know for how long. To see this magnificent funeral and the importance of the Queen and how the British people loved her. The interview with The cut, is the worst PR nightmare that happened to her. Nothing is better than to see a narcissist lose in their spiteful games, tricks and manipulations.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | September 19, 2022 3:48 PM |
I see boobs on the coffin flag. How daring.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | September 19, 2022 3:49 PM |
Apparently the coffin has a false lid, so maybe they put it i side that, R18? (Hopefully.)
by Anonymous | reply 26 | September 19, 2022 3:49 PM |
R20 Guess you don't go to many funerals of prime ministers of Israel!
You putz....
by Anonymous | reply 27 | September 19, 2022 3:49 PM |
Brutal!
by Anonymous | reply 28 | September 19, 2022 3:49 PM |
Goodbye Your Majesty.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | September 19, 2022 3:49 PM |
Down into The Vault she goes.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | September 19, 2022 3:50 PM |
Its right there on the grounds. Philip had his funeral there. Broadcast around the world.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | September 19, 2022 3:50 PM |
The bagpipes are making me well up.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | September 19, 2022 3:50 PM |
So what do they do with her now?
by Anonymous | reply 33 | September 19, 2022 3:50 PM |
Bury her, Rose.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | September 19, 2022 3:51 PM |
Prof Anya has a few ideas.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | September 19, 2022 3:51 PM |
Her piper's watch has ended.
*crying.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | September 19, 2022 3:51 PM |
For some reason it annoys me when the pastors read from scripts during moments like this. Shouldn't you of all people have these verses memorized?!
by Anonymous | reply 37 | September 19, 2022 3:51 PM |
Into the Vault, R33.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | September 19, 2022 3:51 PM |
God Save the King up next....
by Anonymous | reply 39 | September 19, 2022 3:51 PM |
Piper disappears into the distance. Perfect.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | September 19, 2022 3:52 PM |
How gruesome to go into a vault. It's a crypt. Crypts are creepy.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | September 19, 2022 3:52 PM |
Can't believe Charles and Kate let their kids see that.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | September 19, 2022 3:52 PM |
There's a third only family private funeral at about seven tonight. So I don't know if they bring her back up or that's just around the actual grave.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | September 19, 2022 3:53 PM |
why r42? Coffins are lowered into graves every day, in front of family members.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | September 19, 2022 3:53 PM |
I missed the breaking of the scepter. Does anyone have it on Twitter or something they can post?
by Anonymous | reply 45 | September 19, 2022 3:53 PM |
Juicy furry lowhangers under the kilt YUM!
by Anonymous | reply 46 | September 19, 2022 3:53 PM |
Zara and her daughters are there as well.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | September 19, 2022 3:54 PM |
King Charles looks so sad, like he is almost about to cry.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | September 19, 2022 3:54 PM |
by Anonymous | reply 49 | September 19, 2022 3:54 PM |
I can’t believe they’re going to have a second service tonight. How long does this go on?
by Anonymous | reply 50 | September 19, 2022 3:54 PM |
R36 the shot of QEII’s piper playing his last tune and walking alone out of the chapel and into the cloisters was the only part of this whole production that has felt truly poignant and harrowing to me. I genuinely feel for the man.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | September 19, 2022 3:54 PM |
Gawwwwwwwwwwwwwdddd Saaaaaaaaave the Kiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing!!!
by Anonymous | reply 52 | September 19, 2022 3:54 PM |
Yes he looked very emotional there, at the end. He's a far more emotional person than his mother was.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | September 19, 2022 3:54 PM |
The staff? of the Chamberlain looks pre-broken
by Anonymous | reply 54 | September 19, 2022 3:54 PM |
R45 The scepter was not broken!
The last time we will hear God Save the Queen in our lifetime...
by Anonymous | reply 55 | September 19, 2022 3:55 PM |
Viscount Severn is a very promising twinkling. Hopefully he'll age better than William did.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | September 19, 2022 3:55 PM |
“Do you want to know a secret?” (intensely flairs eyes)
by Anonymous | reply 57 | September 19, 2022 3:55 PM |
The Queen personally requested that her piper, Major Burns, perform at the end of her burial.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | September 19, 2022 3:55 PM |
Have you been to a Jewish funeral, R42? Everyone pitches in with shovels to fill up the hole with dirt. Death is part of life.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | September 19, 2022 3:55 PM |
[quote] The last time we will hear God Save the Queen in our lifetime...
DON’T😭🤧
by Anonymous | reply 60 | September 19, 2022 3:56 PM |
R48, KCIII's face made me cry! You can tell he'd been crying.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | September 19, 2022 3:56 PM |
Shit, I went for a quick pee and missed the coffin going down the hole.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | September 19, 2022 3:56 PM |
They didn't show Philip's coffin being lowered down into the crypt. Did they show the queen's? I missed it.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | September 19, 2022 3:57 PM |
r48 I think Charles just hates his new job.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | September 19, 2022 3:57 PM |
I assume the immediate family is going down to the crypt to watch the queen interred?
by Anonymous | reply 65 | September 19, 2022 3:57 PM |
Was JFK Jr able to make it after all?
by Anonymous | reply 66 | September 19, 2022 3:57 PM |
Yes they showed the beginning of Philip's lowering r63, then they cut away suddenly. Watch the video.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | September 19, 2022 3:57 PM |
I think Charles wants a drink and a blow job.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | September 19, 2022 3:58 PM |
Charles looked so worried, I was giving him a pep talk through the TV. “You’ll do a good job!”
by Anonymous | reply 69 | September 19, 2022 3:58 PM |
R55, I stand corrected. I meant the staff, not the scepter.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | September 19, 2022 3:58 PM |
Ta-ra, Lil. Hope you get a bit of peace at long last, now.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | September 19, 2022 3:58 PM |
r55 If you live long enough you might hear it again.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | September 19, 2022 3:58 PM |
R68 I’m great at both if I can be Queen today!
by Anonymous | reply 73 | September 19, 2022 3:59 PM |
Wellz really does look like a King, as a previous poster said. He has the bearing.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | September 19, 2022 3:59 PM |
Bideebideebideeee, that's all folks!
by Anonymous | reply 75 | September 19, 2022 3:59 PM |
I noticed Camilla was looking at the same tall young courtier I was looking at, when she was getting into the car.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | September 19, 2022 3:59 PM |
Sassy little George is ready for his close up too
by Anonymous | reply 77 | September 19, 2022 4:00 PM |
r56 Or Edward for that matter. He was promising when younger as well.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | September 19, 2022 4:00 PM |
R77 the next Kaween of England
by Anonymous | reply 79 | September 19, 2022 4:01 PM |
Was she....holding her stomach in some kind of way?
by Anonymous | reply 80 | September 19, 2022 4:01 PM |
No hand holding today.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | September 19, 2022 4:01 PM |
So it's over, after 11 straight days. Tomorrow we'll wake up to the usual fare, politics, the economy, the energy crisis. The reign of King Charles III officially really begins now.
Thanks to everyone here on DL this morning and afternoon, in the UK and US and elsewhere, for the camaraderie. See you all here next at the Coronation! Good luck to Della and the other departing posters - come back when you can.
by Anonymous | reply 82 | September 19, 2022 4:01 PM |
Megan’s eye makeup is ridiculous.
by Anonymous | reply 83 | September 19, 2022 4:01 PM |
Seems Bea was put in charge of Fergie. She's leading her away to the car.
by Anonymous | reply 84 | September 19, 2022 4:01 PM |
The breaking of the rod signifies Charles never having time in his schedule to shag Camilla again.
by Anonymous | reply 85 | September 19, 2022 4:02 PM |
Bea has gorgeous legs, my word.
Sad they’re having to hoof it.
by Anonymous | reply 86 | September 19, 2022 4:02 PM |
Princess Michael, rewearing her outfit from last week.
Some things never change.
by Anonymous | reply 87 | September 19, 2022 4:03 PM |
R67 I could just imagine Phil’s ghost grumbling and growling “oh, get a bloody move on, will you?”
by Anonymous | reply 88 | September 19, 2022 4:03 PM |
I want to see what happen under the hole!
by Anonymous | reply 89 | September 19, 2022 4:04 PM |
BBCAmerica ended its coverage at noon and joined "Star Trek: Next Generation" already in progress.
Rude.
by Anonymous | reply 90 | September 19, 2022 4:04 PM |
The whore leaves
by Anonymous | reply 91 | September 19, 2022 4:05 PM |
Thank you, gentlemen. Twas a pleasure sharing history with you.
I've been here 11 hours. My ass is numb!
by Anonymous | reply 92 | September 19, 2022 4:05 PM |
Lmao, they put Meghan and Harry in Wallis' Rolls again.
by Anonymous | reply 93 | September 19, 2022 4:05 PM |
I just noticed that Meghan has on long black gloves. Elegant, but a bit much for a daytime funeral. The hat, dress and attached cape were bringing enough fashion drama there.
by Anonymous | reply 94 | September 19, 2022 4:05 PM |
[quote] If you live long enough you might hear it again.
Alas my end of watch will be long before Queen Charlotte begins her reign.
by Anonymous | reply 95 | September 19, 2022 4:06 PM |
[quote] The last time we will hear God Save the Queen in our lifetime...
R55, not sure what you were listening to, but we haven’t heard that sung since before QEII died. At the first service after she died they already changed it to God Save the King.
by Anonymous | reply 96 | September 19, 2022 4:06 PM |
[R83] In her mind she is in a Hollywood movie premier. She has to look glammed up!!
by Anonymous | reply 97 | September 19, 2022 4:07 PM |
Kirsty Young on the BBC, just perfect, emotional in her summing up of a great, but sad day.
God bless Her Majesty. God Save The King.
by Anonymous | reply 98 | September 19, 2022 4:07 PM |
How did Harry get so much time off from BetterUp? Americans aren't generous with vacation time, particularly new hires.
by Anonymous | reply 99 | September 19, 2022 4:07 PM |
Megans cape like dress and that sharply angled hat reminds me of the wicked witch in The Wizard of Oz.
by Anonymous | reply 100 | September 19, 2022 4:07 PM |
Just now seeing the silent BBC title card to fade out, showing the old and young face of ER, might be what gets me, rather than all the pageantry. It’s the little things, sometimes.
by Anonymous | reply 101 | September 19, 2022 4:09 PM |
Those fucking corgies did me in. I was fine until I saw them. Went through half a box of tissue.
by Anonymous | reply 102 | September 19, 2022 4:10 PM |
Long was Her reign, long will be Her sleep with her beloved Prince at her side.
by Anonymous | reply 103 | September 19, 2022 4:10 PM |
R100... that penny just dropped for me too... Elphaba... except her solo is Defying Decency.
by Anonymous | reply 104 | September 19, 2022 4:11 PM |
R98 Kirsty among others has been magnificent today, yes. Huw Edwards & Fiona Bruce, as well.
Usually I’ve only critical things to say about Aunty Beeb, but they’ve done well today, haven’t they?
by Anonymous | reply 105 | September 19, 2022 4:11 PM |
R101 BBC knows how to do these. Logo and headlines are back.
by Anonymous | reply 106 | September 19, 2022 4:12 PM |
R102, that got me as did some of the horses as the hearse passed them. A few seemed to be bowing their heads as the hearse went by. I wondered if their riders were making them do that.
by Anonymous | reply 107 | September 19, 2022 4:12 PM |
Oh i should've switched. I had the Sky News app and started with that but it cut out every two or three minutes. So frigging annoying.
by Anonymous | reply 108 | September 19, 2022 4:13 PM |
I've been watching the Sky TV Feed and Alastair Bruce was terrific. For some reason their video feed was crisper and clearer on YouTube than the Beeb's, at least for me it was. Not sure why.
by Anonymous | reply 109 | September 19, 2022 4:13 PM |
King Charles' coronation will be a dull affair. No beautiful young Queen with her handsome Prince at her side.
No, it will be a bunch of olds marching about.
by Anonymous | reply 110 | September 19, 2022 4:14 PM |
Now the crowds hit the pubs to get drunk.
by Anonymous | reply 111 | September 19, 2022 4:14 PM |
Did you notice the big Candle in the first ceremony, blocking Meghan face in the televised programs? I laughed so hard!! I wonder if it was deliberately, by the cameraman or producers, to angle the camera that way.
by Anonymous | reply 112 | September 19, 2022 4:14 PM |
Meghan is fucking gorgeous.
by Anonymous | reply 113 | September 19, 2022 4:15 PM |
This service was better. It felt more intimate. I started to lose it when the crown, orb and septor were removed.....then the coffin was lowering. I didn't think I would cry so much. It was beautiful and I'm glad I watched the entire ceremony. Charles crying got to me, too.
by Anonymous | reply 114 | September 19, 2022 4:16 PM |
R112, I wondered at points if there was a conspiracy to keep shots of her to a minimum.
Did you see the big tear face outside after the committal? Gotta deliver the shot...
by Anonymous | reply 115 | September 19, 2022 4:16 PM |
Myrtle and English Oak....🍂
by Anonymous | reply 116 | September 19, 2022 4:16 PM |
Watching on MSNBC… they have Michael Beschloss commenting on the BRF leaving the chapel, and my husband asks “What’s up with that one eyebrow?”
I asked him “what eyebrow?” Thinking he was talking about Brooksbank exiting. He says “That man’s eyebrow! That man talking!”
I look up and Michael has only one eyebrow “painted” or made up or whatever. He def needs to hire Andrea’s makeup artists when she retires. They never let her look as demented as she really is. And sadly, Michael is following quick on her heels.
by Anonymous | reply 117 | September 19, 2022 4:16 PM |
I would swear the camera operators went out of their way to avoid Megan.
by Anonymous | reply 118 | September 19, 2022 4:16 PM |
The pony got me, the corgis really got me, the removal of the regalia was sobering and God Save the Queen/King always gets me.
by Anonymous | reply 119 | September 19, 2022 4:17 PM |
Thought Anne was gonna lunge for the crown.
by Anonymous | reply 120 | September 19, 2022 4:17 PM |
Now back to the real world.
The religious wars in Leicester - they will need to perform a partition there to keep the Hindus and Muslims from killing each other.
Back to waiting 6 months to start chemo at NHS.
Back to trying out how to keep warm this winter (Liz says no to paying for heat).
by Anonymous | reply 121 | September 19, 2022 4:17 PM |
I could swear you're a 16 yo mental case off her meds R118.
by Anonymous | reply 122 | September 19, 2022 4:19 PM |
I noticed, when the grandchildren stood by the Queen's coffin in Westminster Abbey....in their positions, the cameras would pan to William, the two girls (don't remember their names)....but never showed Harry. You only saw Harry when he was walking to and from the coffin. I think that was deliberate.
by Anonymous | reply 123 | September 19, 2022 4:21 PM |
Yeah, the animals...the pony and corgis was beautiful and touching moment.
by Anonymous | reply 124 | September 19, 2022 4:24 PM |
Not enough Major Jon today.
by Anonymous | reply 125 | September 19, 2022 4:25 PM |
That was a hell of a send off for the Queen!
by Anonymous | reply 126 | September 19, 2022 4:25 PM |
I think Meghan looked nice today. But I didn't like her hat. I also didn't like her hat at the Jubilee and it looks like the two hats were exactly the same, one black and one white.
by Anonymous | reply 127 | September 19, 2022 4:26 PM |
Emma the pony stomping her foot when the Queen passed was so beautiful. And the little corgis also paying respect.
by Anonymous | reply 128 | September 19, 2022 4:27 PM |
Annoyed Canadian here that I dont have a day off and cant sit and watch the whole thing, will have to re-watch later online.
The beauty of it all is staggering to me. Not a step out of place. Not one leaf on the grass. Everything in sync and in unison. The Queens pony made me cry as well as her dogs.
That Meghan complained about "the smell" of the chapel and couldnt appreciate the beauty, glory and history of everything is shocking to me. What an ungrateful cunt.
by Anonymous | reply 129 | September 19, 2022 4:29 PM |
Funny if this turns into a head of state superspreader event.
by Anonymous | reply 130 | September 19, 2022 4:29 PM |
It’s rather touching too that, for the indefinite future, The Queen’s Guard will continue to be called thus.
Not sure when that will end, perhaps when the last of the Guards who joined the ranks during her life & reign have retired.
by Anonymous | reply 131 | September 19, 2022 4:30 PM |
Where are they putting up the foreign mucky-mucks? They ARE putting them up . . . no? Are they going to feed them more than a couple of cucumber sandwiches after all this?
by Anonymous | reply 132 | September 19, 2022 4:31 PM |
It was worth getting up at 5 am for...
by Anonymous | reply 133 | September 19, 2022 4:33 PM |
R120 a good part of the country would secretly love Anne to step in and act as Head Of State until Wills takes the throne.
by Anonymous | reply 134 | September 19, 2022 4:35 PM |
That woman represented the penultimate white supremacist, racist, genocidal family....their vast wealth (which is NOT known) is off the backs of the countries they raped over centuries and stole from their own people. Read about the Duchy of Cornwall, Chuck's (now billy's) feudal land. It's disgusting. All their properties and holdings should be nationalized and given back to at least used to strengthen the people. not only of Britain but the other victims of their genocidal murderous lust
Seeing those ridiculous old white men in their expensive flowing robes talking about their fantasy christ is just too much. And all those military marchings in those outlandish costumes that just represent the centuries of imperialist war, well, it disgusts me.
The pomp and circumstance is used to hide the treacherous past of these tyrannical people.
Wake up bitches.

Jill Biden's headgear is most unfortunate.
by Anonymous | reply 136 | September 19, 2022 4:39 PM |
RE134, supposedly related European royal are staying at Buckingham Palace; non-related and non-European royals are at Claridge's. Presidents etc will stay at their embassies
by Anonymous | reply 137 | September 19, 2022 4:39 PM |
And now the old gal is home. I imagine the Queen Mary beckons her forth, saying "Lilibet! So glad you've finally joined us! Come have a drink. The Gin and Dubonnet are actually ALIVE here! You remember Crawfie don't you?"
by Anonymous | reply 138 | September 19, 2022 4:39 PM |
Someone asked in these thread what the Queen was buried in. If you believe the Mail, it was one of her day dresses, with her simple pearl earrings and her wedding band. Her engagement ring was removed and given to family, most likely Princess Anne.
by Anonymous | reply 139 | September 19, 2022 4:39 PM |
I was moved by seeing her beloved corgis barking when hearse neared, they knew their mistress was approaching.
Charles was a wreck, he was teary eyed and the way he looked at her coffin before placing the flag atop was haunting and will stay with me.
by Anonymous | reply 140 | September 19, 2022 4:39 PM |
Thanks R135. Are you an Igbo related to Uju?
by Anonymous | reply 141 | September 19, 2022 4:41 PM |
[quote]Viscount Severn is a very promising twinkling. Hopefully he'll age better than William did.

The closest related royals to the BRF are the Norwegians, as Harald is QEII's second cousin (his grandmother was King George V's sister). After that, the Danes are close to Charles and William (William has taken a liking to Frederik and the next heir, Christian). Also former Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands had a good friendship with the Queen.
by Anonymous | reply 143 | September 19, 2022 4:41 PM |
R135, others have done it already to the point of tedium and, frankly, more entertainingly. Go do your dull student radical schtick somewhere else.

by Anonymous | reply 145 | September 19, 2022 4:42 PM |
r135 sounds like he's fun at parties, amirite?
by Anonymous | reply 146 | September 19, 2022 4:44 PM |
R138 yes!
I like to think that the spirits of the illustrious late Queens of England have their own separate halls & grounds from the many Kings, even more splendid and comfortable.

[quote] Also former Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands had a good friendship with the Queen.
The Dutch royals were fairly hostile to the British royals at least since the time of the Boer war against the Afrikaaners, but things changed in WWII when Queen Wilhelmina escaped the Nazis and led her country’s resistance from London. George VI is said to have regarded her from then on as Cousin Wilhemina, and to have introduced her to Lilibet and Margaret as such.

I can't link to the Daily Mail here, but they have confirmation that there was a kerfluffle at the end of the Abbey service when Bea and Eugenie got up suddenly to leave their seats. They walked away to the back of the abbey, but no word on why.
I'm guessing one of them was overcome, or one is pregnant and had to either pee or throw up so got the hell outta there and out of the camera's way.

R242 It looks like a number of foreign royals were "nixed" from the service at St. George's in Windsor probably due to space. Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark, Queen Letiza, the King and Queen of the Belgians all weren't there either. Queen Letiza likely gave up her seat so Queen Sofia and King Juan Carlos (who were close friends of the Queen) could attend.

The relationship between George and Charlotte is very reminiscent of the relationship between Charles and Anne. Charles & George are both pensive rather shy types and their sisters are obviously more assertive.
I hope the adult Charlotte is as protective and loving towards George as Anne seems to be to Charles.

Apparently St George's Memorial Chapel has room for six coffins, so presumably Charles and Camilla will be the fifth and sixth. This means the Queen Mother will spend eternity with Camilla, of whom she strongly disapproved. Sophie even said Charles was waiting for the Queen Mother to die before he proposed to Camilla.

My sister had a knockout ring that was pure bling made from some r=unwanted stones she & her husband had. She only wore it when she had to go to events where his ex-wife & his family who hated her. Damn, that was quite the spectacle. I remember watching Phillips and hearing that it was a low-key scaled-down affair and thinking that was pretty damn impressive, so I knew this would be impressive.
Anyone else notice that pile of horse manure and how that one line of pipers/band members neatly weaved around it?
Enough with the Biden needed to take the bus crap. The President of United States is the most powerful leader in the world and, as a result, is *always* a target. We've had multiple assassination attempts (enough so that there's a musical about it) and some were successful. He was never going to be on the bus. The security bubble around the American president is intense. Biden, who loves cars, is only allowed to drive at Camp David--at that was as VP. Not even former presidents get to drive. My guess is that part of Biden's seating (on the aisle) was arranged with his security detail in mind.
Pearls are the jewel considered appropriate for mourning--of course the Royals knew that, though Charlotte wore her little stickpin, which was sad and sweet.
Wills looked really sad entering Westminster--wondering if the walk brought back the one following his mother. He really looks kingly with that height and physique--well done, Spencer genes.
Harry looked uncomfortable. Misses his uniform and, I'm sure, has a love/hate relationship with the whole thing--and the immensity of the whole system was on display today. It's a funny thing--you have this intense focus on this person who is the embodiment of the state, but that focus goes above and beyond the actual person who is that embodiment. Elizabeth, in her practical, low-key way, completely understood this. It's not going to change because a second son married an actress with a social media following. Wondered if any of that registered at all on the Duke of Sussex--that this is a job and the unifying aspect of the monarchy isn't unimportant after all
Even if Harry doesn't get it, it's clear that Charles does--both times "God Save the King" was played, he looked stricken--by both the huge sense of loss of the mother figure of all mother figures and the sense that the duty she lived by for decades is now all on him, an old, not particularly healthy, man. He'll have a harder time learning on the job and there will be learning. He's got Truss, not Churchill. He knows he's not loved the way his mother was. He seems overwhelmed--he no longer gets to sing "God Save the Queen" with everybody else--he's on his own.
In his favor, and I don't think this is actually a small thing in his job, is a truly beautiful speaking voice. I thought he was a BBC presenter during a voice over at one point.

Scattered notes:
Proud gay American here, but I have generic/cultural kinship as the UK/Ireland as the source of at least 60% of my DNA. I was up at 4:30 Eastern time and was watching my PBS app. They were carrying BBC1 who had minimal commentary. No network of cable TV in this household which also saves me too much inane commentary.
1. It was nice to see the altered exit route from London to allow more views of the Crystal Hearse from the well-wishers along the route, as well as taking the A roads. Nice touch. Also, very nice hearse. I am sure it was custom-made in advance for today.
2. The orchestration of the TV shots (and sounds) for outside events all day was exceptional. We got those heart-dripping closeups of the pony and the corgis because the Producers knew where they would be, and when. The details in the script for the multi-events of the day and the wherewithal to have camara and audio folk stationed all over London was excellent. This was bigger than the Olympics and was conducted outside and in medieval structures -- not a studio or soundstage. Hat's off to the crews who brought us these images
3. While I "ahhhd" with the shot of the corgis, the solo piper exiting St Georges Chapel at Windsor got me crying for the first time all morning. What a perfect song that gave such atmosphere. I've also noted that I will need to find a piper before my own mother's funeral (she is 1/4 Scottish and 100% drama). I am sure I am not the only one in the world who cried; my guess is that there were 'feels' all over the globe then.
4. That Bearer Party! Can I book them for my next house move? Can I buy them all a pint? I think we now know what the group costume for all of the gay Halloween parties will be this fall.
All in all, a beautiful, fitting day for a remarkable woman.

R328.... I read in one of the Ts (Times or Telegraph) Charles contemplated giving Balmoral to the nation, he being happily ensconced at Birkhall (and I guess it's all about him). But that his siblings might feel differently given it has long been such a family home and summer tradition. So maybe he gives it to the nation and they have it for a few weeks a year to do that and it is closed in that time. The article also contended he will keep Sandringham as he is already heavily organic farming there. Windsor he doesn't like.

Haha.
I posted in Part 2 that the seating arrangement would become a story.
I said that the only reason Charlotte and George were added to the guest list for the funeral (at the last minute) was so that Harry and Meghan would be bumped to the second row, and wouldn't have to sit next to William and Kate.
I was right!
[quote] Buckingham Palace Insists Harry and Meghan’s Second Row Funeral Seats Were No Snub
There was “no snub” aimed at Prince Harry at Queen Elizabeth’s funeral and he was seated in the second row because of his age, a source at Buckingham Palace told The Daily Beast Monday evening.
The source sought to quell speculation that Harry and wife Meghan Markle had been seated in the second row as a snub following their estrangement from the family, telling The Daily Beast: “The order was approximately age order but trying not to split families up.” (Harry and Meghan were seated on the front row at the second public funeral service of the day at St George’s Chapel, Windsor.)
The palace suggested that, apart from Prince William (40) who is now first in line to the throne, other grandchildren of the monarch had been seated in age order, with Peter (44) and Zara (41) being put in the front row ahead of second-row occupants Harry (38), Beatrice (34), and Eugenie (32).
According to the palace, this explains why Harry’s cousins, Princess Anne’s children Zara and Peter, were seated in the front row despite never having been working royals, rather than speculation that Harry being relegated to a less prominent position in response to his and his wife’s attacks on the monarchy.
The couple have accused an unnamed individual in the family of racism and Meghan gave an interview shortly before the queen’s death in which she said they threatened the “hierarchy” of the institution “just by existing,” and appeared to threaten to make more revelations. The palace are also said to be extremely anxious about Harry’s forthcoming memoir.
Harry has apparently suffered several slights since the queen’s death.
He did not travel to Scotland with his brother and uncles when his grandmother was first announced to have been taken ill, was excluded from a dinner with Charles and William on the night of her death, and was banned from wearing military uniform to today’s funeral.
It was also reported that he was only told of the queen’s death five minutes before it was publicly announced.

Oh do fuck off. They've been treated very well, included in everything and given place of prominence. Given all the stress this past week that's more than most would hope for (no one planned on them being in the UK when the Queen died, it was happenstance). Charles lovingly included them in his speech, which is kinder than the words they've had for him.
Stirring up drama? Charles and William are too busy BURYING the monarch, their mother and grandmother, and signing off on every detail as well as (in Charles's case), working 24/7 as Head of State. The only shitty people stirring up DRAMA were Frick and Frack (H&M), constantly briefing the effing press on every single petty slight Harry perceived, from seating, to reception status, to the fucking 1-inch emblem on his shoulder braiding that no one on God's Green Earth gives a FUCK about, but HIM.
The selfishness and narcissism they displayed this past week, the most stressful for the entire BRF in decades, will be long in their memories. The icy cold emanating from Kate, Camilla and Sophie today toward them spoke volumes. They are OUT, and not soon enough. King Charles doesn't have the same patience the late Queen had.

[Next week, at Wembley Stadium]
Southgate: Now, Jack; when we're up to sing the National Anthem, do you remember which one of the words is going to be different, and where it goes? We've gone over it and practised hard for a few months now, haven't we? Just a little easy-peasy word that's not the same as it was last year. It's alright to get it wrong, as long as you try....though you've tried rather too many times to count, by now...still, come on, have another go, let's hear you. After all, you've done so well and worked your socks off this season. All the lads are behind you. I know you can make us all proud and remember what you've got to sing.
(long beat)
Grealish: Oom...errr....do oi hafta loike....
Southgate: Afraid so. I'll sing the first bit. Ready? 'God--Save--Our--Gracious--....'?
Grealish: Y'wot? Oi-oi dunnow....is it...uhh....
Southgate: Keep your head, just say whatever comes to mind. 'Our--Gracious.....K'?
Grealish:................
Southgate:....Ki......Kiiiiiii......
Grealish: ......................Kildare Countay?
Southgate: Not...quite, no. Remember this is England, love, England. Think a bit harder, mate.
Grealish: Er....oi....fooksake, can't do it. Oi've fookin' forgot agen, Gaffah! Sorray....

R382.... so I Googled that because.... it's been remarked upon a few times since earlier this year. It could be any number of things. It could be a common essential tremor, it could be a reaction to adrenalin in certain circumstances, it could be an elderly lady feeling the cold or the heat or tiredness or some combination. Of course everybody will assume it's Parkinsons but there's lots of unconcerning causes. So all that can really be said is it has been noticed but it isn't enough everybody's noticed or remarked. Of course, this being DL and the Queen not satisfactorily dead, there will be a contingent here predicting Camilla gone by Christmas so as to fill the void.

She's 75 and has been at it full speed for almost two weeks. Recall, nobody expected the Queen to die as suddenly as she did and boom, they were in the middle of it all.
I remember when my father died, the funeral director said to us that when it was all over we would be as tired as we would ever be in our lives. Between the adrenalin and the emotion and the schedule, he was right. And we did about three days when I was in my thirties. So no doubt she does look tired.

I don't even believe Elizabeth Windsor is dead. I think she was just tired & decided to quietly hand the crown over to Charles since he's an old man and he's been waiting his entire life to be "king." I bet she's spending her last days quietly at Balmoral castle in peace and when she dies for real, the family will bury her quietly without fanfare or the press. She'll spend the rest of her life in seclusion on 50,000 acres of land.
I've thought about thus ever since she died. That woman is still a live. No way she's dead!

The Maul is back in form:
The Duchess of Sussex found herself tucked behind a candle and one of the tallest members of the Royal Family yesterday.
It meant TV viewers struggled to get a glimpse of her because she was often obscured from view.
The Duchess, 41, and her husband Prince Harry were seated behind Tim Laurence, Princess Anne’s husband, who towers over his wife.
A large church candle also stood between her and the TV cameras, while her wide-brimmed hat made it even more difficult for fans to see her.
Meghan and husband Prince Harry were seated in the second row at Westminster Abbey next to Princess Beatrice and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.
She may have been happy to keep a low profile after a number of interviews in recent months in which she has been highly critical of the Royal Family.

[quote] Prince Harry appeared 'traumatized' at Queen Elizabeth II's funeral while seated behind King Charles III
At the late Queen Elizabeth II's funeral on Monday, one member of the royal family in particular seemed to be overcome with emotion: Prince Harry.
"Harry just looked traumatized," Shannon Felton Spence, a royal expert, told Fox News Digital.
The late monarch's grandson sat next to wife Meghan Markle at the funeral. The couple was seated in the second row directly behind King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla.
According to Spence, the seating arrangement at the funeral was also very telling regarding the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
"Harry and Meghan really surprised me because it means they’ll be in every photo," Spence continued, noting their placement directly behind the new king. "But I guess it makes sense since they clearly did the arrangement by succession."
The new king led the procession into Westminster Abbey, followed by the rest of the royal family.
He walked with other members of the royal family, including his sister Anne, Princess Royal, and his brothers Prince Andrew, Duke of York and Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex.
His children William, Prince of Wales, and Prince Harry, who walked close together, also followed their grandmother's coffin along with their cousin Peter Phillips, Anne's son.
After conflicting reports on whether they would be in attendance, Harry and Meghan ultimately did not attend Sunday evening's Buckingham Palace reception.
"They wanted to be there," Spence said. "I imagine the weight of what they gave up when they resigned from their jobs as working royals is very heavy this weekend. Remember, they wanted to have both. They wanted to be able to capitalize on a celebrity brand and be ‘financially independent’ while also still serving The Crown. And the queen said no. That’s not how it works. You are in or you are out. And this is pretty indicative of their strategy over the last two years. They leak to the press to try and force the issue. And the only time I recall it working was with the question of Prince Harry’s ability to wear uniform to the vigil on Saturday night."

Queen Elizabeth II finally parted company with the Imperial State Crown, orb and sceptre as the final hymn was sung at her committal ceremony, in one of the most moving moments of today's funeral.
Throughout her lying in state, the symbols of monarchy have adorned her coffin, and they remained there during her funeral at Westminster Abbey and will for the committal at St George’s Chapel, Windsor.
They were removed in the final moments before the public sees its last images of the monarch’s coffin.
Before the final hymn was sung in St George’s Chapel during the ceremony that began at 4pm today, Mark Appleby, the Crown Jeweller, removed the crown, orb and sceptre from the coffin, with the help of the Bargemaster and the Serjeants-at-Arms – royal servants who guard the regalia during state occasions. They passed them one by one to the Dean of Windsor, who placed them on the high altar.
While the crown represents the sovereign’s power over her subjects, the orb, made up of a cross above a globe, represents Christ’s earthly dominion and symbolises the monarch’s status as God’s mortal representative. The sceptre, which holds the world’s largest cut diamond, the Cullinan I, represents equity and mercy. They will be presented to the King at his coronation in 2023.
At the end of the hymn, the King will placed a military flag on top of the coffin which, according to the Army, will be placed inside her coffin before she is interred.
The Grenadier Guards Queen’s Company Camp Colour – a small flag which normally adorns the Company Captain’s bunk designating his place of work – is unique to each sovereign and ceases to be used when they die. The full-sized version of the flag is currently draped at the foot of the Queen’s coffin as she lies in state.
The Grenadier Guards are the most senior of the Foot Guards regiments, and the Queen was their Colonel in Chief.
Once the King placed the colours on top of the coffin, the Lord Chamberlain, the most senior officer of the Royal household, broke his wand of office and placed it there.
As the coffin was lowered into the royal vault, as Prince Philip’s was at his funeral in 2021, the Dean of Windsor read a psalm and the commendation before the Garter King of Arms read out the styles and titles of the Queen.
The committal did not mark the end of the day’s ceremonies. At 7.30pm close family members will gather in the tiny King George VI Memorial Chapel for the interment of Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh, whose coffins will be moved from the royal vault to be interred alongside the Queen’s parents and her sister Princess Margaret.

I am the opposite of a Meghan fan, but IMO she did not put a foot wrong over the many hours of the funeral/s. You may cavil at her choice of dress or be suspicious of her tears, but as far as she could, being basically a novice at the whole thing, she did what she was supposed to do and didn't get in anyone's way.
I didn't notice that Harry didn't sing God Save the King at the Abbey, but after you guys mentioned it I watched him at Windsor and he didn't sing it there either. Just stood there with his mouth shut. So I don't foresee any jollies in Charles's future from him. His attitude seemed to be that he'd come to bury his grandmother, not to reconcile with his host. Meghan, by contrast, did sing, or at least mouth words she might not know well.
When Harry went to talk to Charlotte during the Windsor service, she startled and moved towards her mother as though they'd told her HE was the pedo. So she's clearly not hearing good things from mum and dad about him.
Harry being told the Queen had died five minutes before the public heard was not a slight: it was doubtless from genuine fear he would leak it.
Friends I watched it with suggested the reverse of "Harry and Meghan can now see what they've lost". They thought Harry would double down on his resolve to make a different life, because of the weight of history and duty on display and the tiny size of every individual in it by comparison with the whole. I think they might have a point.

R481, I wondered the opposite. I think Meghan was finally realizing what Harry lost. That he was a part of something larger, and now his father is King of the UK and he is a Prince of the Blood. Yeah, she's American and she didn't care about all that "foolishness." But she had to be massively impressed by the outpouring of love and grief she saw everywhere. And this was a woman she had a chance to meet and get to know. On a very personal level the Queen made a real effort to make her feel comfortable and welcomed her, and she couldn't get her head out of her ass long enough to realize what an amazing g ift that was. And she was also close enough to witness the raw emotions and the grieving of members of the family from Charles on down. And Harry was, like his cousins, devastated. Whatever else he may be, foolish for sure, he is a member of the Royal family. His identity, his culture, everything all his life was focused on all that she saw set before her these past 10 days. Fine. they decided to walk away. But WTF did they have to shit on people and show such a lack of judgement and maturity? Harry pouting and crapping on Charles and William, and Meghan dumping on Charles as if he wasn't the man who escorted her down the aisle on her wedding day. The tabloids are racist. Probably some of the staff in the palace are racists. But the way it was handled was not cool. And there is no let up. For those two it's all about grievance.

"Meghan Markle sobs in the pews of Westminster Abbey along side Sophie, Duchess of Wessex".
You would think that a British medium that reports daily on the royals would know that Sophie is a COUNTESS.
Megs "crying in the pews" over a woman who heads an institution that she spent years viciously villainizing, accusing and blaming. But Megs is an actress and had a role to play. One can only wonder what she was thinking about to generate the tears.

And just to understand the logistics, did they have to bring back up the two caskets previously lowered in the crypt in order to insert them under the existing black slab/marker? Asking this respectfully.

There are two interviews after he was forced out of the military where he is clearly angry about the situation, and of course all those articles about him going to Africa to work on that charity right after he got out of the military were full of comments about how he was thinking of relocating out of Britain.
The Meghan-hater loons on here have purposely "forgotten" that, but Meghan came after Harry's disaffection with the family was made public.
by Anonymous | reply 514 | September 20, 2022 5:39 AM |
Harry's chief problems are:
1) He lost his mother far too soon. It really affected him.
2) Harry isn't super bright. And, people without intellect can really flounder if they aren't given the tools to flourish.
3) He has a bad case of Bitter Spare Syndrome which is partly caused by 1 and 2. If Diana had lived to nuture and guide him, he might have done alright. Or, if someone had stepped in to be a strong mother surrogate for him.
4) Meghan was the exactly WRONG kind of wife for him. She just feeds his insecurities and bitterness. She has similar problems to Harry. She HAD parents but her mother was a bit hippy dippy and vague and her father spoiled her out of guilt. She's also not super bright and she feels super entitled to get things she doesn't necessarily deserve or failed to earn. Harry needed a strong nurturer type like Kate as a partner but he instead snagged his female equivalent.

[quote] People Question Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Second Row Seats at Queen's Funeral
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle joined other members of the royal family—as well as political leaders and foreign royals—for the Queen's state funeral on Monday, and people are questioning the seating arrangements.
The Duke and Duchess were seated in the second row, next to Princess Beatrice and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi. They sat behind King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla, who were in the front row along with Princess Anne, Princess Anne's husband Sir Timothy Laurence, Prince Andrew, Prince Edward, and Prince Edward's wife Sophie.
Meanwhile, Prince William and Kate Middleton were seated in the first row (across the aisle) with their children—and some people questioned the decision to have them up front, while Meghan and Harry were given second row seats. Sure, one could argue that Prince William is the direct heir to the throne and therefore would obviously have a front-row seat—but plenty of people on Twitter have pointed out that Harry's cousin Zara Tindall and her husband Mike Tindall were also in the front row.
Check out comments on Twitter below, which include "they really just couldn’t HELP but put Harry and Megan in second row, when there was 2 perfectly fine spaces on Will and Kates row," "why put Harry on the second row when he could have sat next to his brother. Honestly he deserves a break from all the sly digs," and "Why is Prince Harry in the second row? Another bad decision by the royal family and truly disrespectful to her majesty the queen who adored her grandson. Where is the unity?"
So Harry & Meagan were relegated to the second row of his mother's funeral while Anne's children & Mike Tindall were in the front row. Message sent.

Most of those who died in WWI wouldn't have died if the Central Powers hadn't been assholes and declared war on everyone else first.

There is literally NOBODY who thinks Earth's population will EVER exceed 16-20 billion, and most people think it'll ultimately peak somewhere around 12 billion before eventually falling and stabilizing somewhere around 9-10 billion.
Hell, even in rural India, it's increasingly rare for families to have more than 3 or 4 kids. Among urban Indians, the birthrate is barely higher than the US birthrate between 1945 and 1965... and rapidly trending downward. The moment a country moves on from subsistence farming and urbanizes, kids stop being profitable & become major long-term financial liabilities.

I actually think Harry could have had what he wanted if he'd understood that, no, you can't exploit your royal titles for commercial purposes and you can't air Firm dirty laundry in public. If he'd done that, all sorts of things would have been open to negotiation.
But he and his wife can't seem to get it through their heads that you can't bully the monarchy. It has its rules. It evolves, but on its own time.
Harry's too dumb and resentful to get that being a dutiful prince gave him a sense of purpose that he now lacks. If he were smarter or more creative, he might be happier outside, but Harry seems happiest with rules as he was in the army.
Meghan is just too American. She doesn't get why the British care about the monarchy so she doesn't get that *they* feel attacked as a nation when she criticizes her in-,laws and takes their prince away.

R544 The "contraction of the European labour force" has nothing to do with millions of Africans and Asians invading Europe. It has to do with tribalism and overpopulation, due to unchecked birthrates.

True, R548, Harry's just bright enough to realize what he doesn't want, but not acute enough to know what he *does* want. Or to know that what he seems to want, which is sitting around in princely luxury while being supported by others, is not available and wouldn't make him happy anyway.
He actually had it right the first time, if he'd gone to Africa to run a game preserve or an organic farm, his life might be on the right track. But he didnt have the nerve to give up his lifestyle and go it alone, so here he is Living out his wife's California dreams.

R550. That is the point. The people who are elected to government don’t have to mess with the ceremonial duties. A royal family of 12 or so for a nation the size of the UK really isn’t disproportionate to 51 spouses performing exclusively ceremonial duties and 51 executives performing ceremonial duties part time.

[quote]Harry's just bright enough to realize what he doesn't want, but not acute enough to know what he *does* want.
He has made it clear time and again that what he wanted was to be career military. He was good at it and he liked it, and it was a worthwhile pursuit. Much of his anger almost certainly stems from not being able to stay in the military.
At the time, the gossip was that he was being forced out because they didn't want him to be in danger anymore, since he was still high in the line of succession, and also because some tabloids followed him around and there was a risk of military secrets accidentally getting out, especially if he rose in the ranks.
Now for some reason the story has changed to a variety of things that all boil down to "Harry is awful and stupid and hateful" and none of that seems to be true. Stupid sometimes, but it's not like he's the only member of the family who does stupid things sometimes.
I think a lot about the wild partying and the idiotic comments he made when he was younger, and how it seemed like there was no one who gave a shit about him unless he got in the tabs. Then whenever he straightened up, did what the family demanded, he was used as tabloid distraction from the stuff William, Charles and Andrew had done.
Anyone would feel like they'd been set up for a fall after something like that.

The seating arrangements perfectly indicate why seating arrangements at a wedding are the worst thing you will endure during one of them. Everyone complains and no one is happy. The seating was approved by Charles. Who is this instance, is the bride’s mother and mother in law.

R563, Harry loved being in the military because like so many others, it gave him structure and purpose and an identity. It got him away from his messy family and he didn't have to make decisions, everything--food, clothing, housing, daily schedule, was still provided for him (irony that) . When he couldn't pass the tests for moving up in rank, he was retired. Up or out. Or I've heard that he could've been given a desk job but he wanted an active role.
Being the gang of three with William and Kate was good PR but it couldn't last forever. Harry couldn't find a girlfriend who was willing to join him on the spare heir bus and he wasn't capable of carving out a new identity that was as satisfying as his former military one (where everything was handed to him). I mean, how dumb do you have to be if Andrew managed to stay in the Navy for twenty years?

I know the mourning period is over, but it's still a bit strange to turn on BBC News and find that, for the first time in nearly two weeks, the Queen is no longer the top story. It still doesn't really feel as though Charles is King. There may be a shift in December, when England sing "God Save the King" at their World Cup games, and Charles gives the Christmas speech. Shortly after that, the new stamps and coins will come into circulation.

R497, you should've been watching the BBC stream, which was (and still is) on YouTube. It was beautifully choreographed and shot, with very little speaking.

R575 back in the 2000s, the NBC drama ‘Kings’ alluded to Harry’s then-contemporaneous shock and dismay over his demotion/forced retirement from military service, via the obvious export character young Crown Prince Jack Benjamin (played by Sebastian Stan).
Interestingly, this character Jack was closeted gay, and tortured by it. His male lover and later his scheming beard wife are prematurely killed, by his mother the Queen Consort (rather than his mother being killed).

R576 as if half the England football team ever bothers or properly learns to sing the anthem anyway...
Should just seize the opportunity now and change it, to ‘Wonderwall’ or ‘Bittersweet Symphony’ or Robbie Williams ‘Angels’ or something. A song all British people know and relate to.

"Kate is now getting about a billion dollars a year from the Duchy of Corwall."
The Princess of Wales receives nothing directly from Duchy of Cornwall, it's all Prince William, the Prince of Wales. He inherited title, properties, trusts, etc...
Though as with all great families and estates the Princess of Wales likely has some sort of housekeeping and other monies budgeted for expenses (an allowance if you will). Plus IIRC as a working member of BRF HRH also receives funds from the monarch or whatever.
Remember then Prince Charles couldn't pay alimony awarded to Diana out of his own pocket, HM, the Queen had to pony up some of the funds. Thus it's hardly likely Duchy of Cornwall is raking in *billions* per year.
by Anonymous | reply 598 | September 20, 2022 3:14 PM |
It is worth about a billion, in assets. It's annual revenue is nothing near it. There's a surplus of about 20 million pounds a year, which is taxed as income, and governing legislation that limits how the assets are managed. But a billion a year makes the republicans a happy lie to wind people up with.
