They usually save the high-profile fall turkeys for NYFF (remember Billy Lynn’s Halftime Walk?)
Now can we please get rid of the overexposed Barbie and nepotism spawn Washington?

Has Margot Robbie ever been in a good film? Please don’t say the bathtub one.

If there's footage of Russell calling Robbie the C-word (filmed clandestinely on the set), that should boost its chances of success.

Margot Robbie is getting annoying.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | September 19, 2022 1:43 PM |
A David O Russell film is a convoluted mess? I’m shocked, shocked I tell you.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | September 19, 2022 1:46 PM |
It looked terrible in the previews. Is it suppose to be a comedy? What’s happening with Bale? Weird diet again.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | September 19, 2022 1:55 PM |
I can't stand David Russell. Brunette hair is surprisingly flattering on Margot.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | September 19, 2022 1:58 PM |
Not surprised about John David Washington. He’s a charisma void that doesn’t have 1/1000000th of his father’s talent.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | September 19, 2022 1:58 PM |
I don't think Robbie should take the hit on this, it's DOR's bomb to hold. She's just part of a big ensemble and it sounds like they all suck.
Agreed on John David Washington, he is always lousy and only getting these roles because of who his father is and that he's moderately hot (not one-tenth of his father at his peak though)
by Anonymous | reply 12 | September 19, 2022 2:01 PM |
It’s interesting that O. Russell has what we’ll call “a checkered past” (i.e. getting put into a headlock by George Clooney for being so over the top abusive to extras and crew on “Three Kings”, the meltdown/crazy fights with Lily Tomlin and cast on the set of “I Heart Huckabees”, the alleged verbal abuse to Amy Adams on the set of “The Fighter” and even more so on “American Hustle”—not to even mention his multi-year close working relationship with Harvey Weinstein...) and yet he was never cancelled or MeToo’ed and was even able to finance and make this apparent turkey.
It’s also interesting that once upon a time, Jennifer Lawrence was his “muse” (I’m pretty sure that he actually called her that), that he cast in 3 huge roles in “Silver Linings Playbook”, “American Hustle”, and “Joy” and now (seemingly since Weinstein fell) the two never mention each other at all and Margot is now in the role that Lawrence might have played in the past and be expected to play now in his latest film.
Does anyone know the dirt on O. Russell and Jennifer Lawrence’s relationship and how he avoided getting thrown out of Hollywood with Harvey with the track record he has?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | September 19, 2022 2:34 PM |
I think DOR will have more trouble making his next movie. This one sort of snuck in during the pandemic but ever since I've heard a lot of grumbling about actors working for him
by Anonymous | reply 14 | September 19, 2022 2:38 PM |
Wasn’t it shared here that DOR would put a spy camera in the actress’s trailer.
This supposedly made Jennifer laugh and Amy cringe.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | September 19, 2022 2:40 PM |
I thought it looked good. I want to see this movie

Fondling his niece should have ended his career.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | September 19, 2022 2:45 PM |
I don’t know about the thing with his niece, but his odd and sometimes crazy behavior on film sets has been well documented...
by Anonymous | reply 18 | September 19, 2022 3:02 PM |
Remember his film Spanking the Monkey? About a guy fucking his mom. Who has a broken leg.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | September 19, 2022 3:50 PM |
Designated Oscar bait is awful 75% of the time.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | September 21, 2022 5:01 PM |
How is O’Russell even getting funding and insurance for films anymore?? He is WIDELY hated by both actors and crew. There are multiple YouTube videos of him screaming at actors and throwing things. It’s completely absurd he hasn’t been metooed out of the business. Wtf is anyone doing accepting a contract with him? Christian Bale is as insane O’Russell, but Margot Robbie?
by Anonymous | reply 21 | September 21, 2022 5:05 PM |
[quote]”Christian Bale attempts to do quirky comedy with embarrassing results…”
Didn’t he already do this in Vice?
by Anonymous | reply 22 | September 21, 2022 5:18 PM |
Bale CAN do comedy, he was incredible in American Psycho. Has David O. Russell ever made a good movie besides Flirting With Disaster? Not just decent (Spanking the Monkey and I Heart Huckabees are decent, not good movies)

by Anonymous | reply 30 | September 21, 2022 7:58 PM |
The reviews are coming in. Most hate it, but suggest it's beautifully shot, and there's intermittent fun amidst the talky chaos.
Seems like a rainy Sunday TV cult movie.
If it had been a big hit, all the anxious little social media sweethearts (who've clearly never been on a film set), and are over-stressed by the fact DOR pushes his actors, would have fainted.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | September 28, 2022 9:02 AM |
In the OP picture, CB looks like he's channeling Sam Rockwell.

Hmm, that is an interesting observation; and you're right - this kind of thing would've been right in JLaw's wheelhouse. Granted, she just had a baby, but I'll bet there's an interesting story behind why she's no longer his muse and for as much shit as she talks, she hasn't said a bad word about him at all

A rave from Deadline. The reviewer looks a happy soul. Are too many reviews written by curmudgens?
by Anonymous | reply 35 | September 28, 2022 1:16 PM |
Damn I was really loooking forward to it.
I carefully check out what I'm going to see in a Covid spreader movie theatre.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | October 6, 2022 1:18 PM |
Production budget for the film- $80 million.
I could have filmed four "Bros" for that.
$80 million + $80 million or more for advertising & distributions costs is a lot of money. The director would be wise to start berating the audience into attending pronto.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | October 6, 2022 1:31 PM |
The reviews are savage. Hopefully this ends O’Russell for good.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | October 6, 2022 1:47 PM |
Washington is rather flat from what I've seen of his work.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | October 6, 2022 2:22 PM |
He can’t act. And he’s not particularly good looking either. Nepo baby is a great job.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | October 6, 2022 4:53 PM |
His filmography...he should have his fucking eyes plucked out by birds to protect the world from any more of his work
by Anonymous | reply 41 | October 6, 2022 5:09 PM |
Why would Christian Bale keep working with him? Really disappointing.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | October 7, 2022 12:27 AM |
People want Oscars and O’Russell has written and directed multiple actors to Oscars.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | October 7, 2022 3:36 AM |
There's currently a disconnect on Rotten Tomatoes between critics and audience. Currently stands at 35% for the former, 64% for the latter. It will be interesting to see if that tracking continues.
I'm trying to think of another such critical disconnect.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | October 7, 2022 9:14 AM |
[quote]Why would Christian Bale keep working with him?
Why does any actor want to work with someone with a reputation. Because they get Oscar winning performances out of them.
And apparently, although Russell seems as crazy as a cut snake, is for all the challenges he sets actors, fun and collaborative to work with. So those interviewed say. In other words, don't listen to cancelling Twitter trolls, who'll never create anything in their tinny lives except spite.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | October 7, 2022 9:19 AM |
Christian Bale tried beating up his own mother. He’s just as crazy as the director.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | October 7, 2022 6:17 PM |
Bale was the one who confronted him and got into a shouting match with him on American Hustle for verbally and emotionally abusing Amy Adams. He's very fond of her. They must have made amends since then.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | October 7, 2022 6:30 PM |

No, that's like comparing by Mamie to Meryl. JDW was great in "Black Klansman" and the best thing about "Tenet." There are many, many true nepo babies who are actually deserving of your scorn.

R50 NO, Denzel, your son is a boring as fuck actor.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | October 9, 2022 7:47 AM |
R47 I think Christian Bale gets into a shouting match every time he orders his coffee and forgets about 5 minutes later. He’s just that kind guy.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | October 9, 2022 8:43 AM |
A number of stars took a pay cut to work with a director who emotionally abuses his cast and sexually assaulted his niece. The industry is shameless. It's so frustating that they never really have to answer for their bullshit and hypocrisy.
