So what happens next?

by Anonymousreply 1September 19, 2022 11:32 AM

Watching this, all I can think is what a ginormous waste of resources. A time traveler would think the era colonization is alive and well.

by Anonymousreply 2September 19, 2022 11:32 AM

No one, no where, no how does pomp and circumstance like the Brits.

by Anonymousreply 3September 19, 2022 11:33 AM

I know this isn't the time or place, but good God - those men in uniform are heart-stoppingly handsome.

by Anonymousreply 4September 19, 2022 11:34 AM

[Quote]That William snaps a mean salute.

Is Harry not allowed to bc he's not wearing a uniform?

by Anonymousreply 5September 19, 2022 11:34 AM

I've seen Aussies, Canadians, New Zealanders, but I haven't seen one single Gurkha. Anyone clock the Gurkhas?

by Anonymousreply 6September 19, 2022 11:34 AM

Last night, some posters were throwing hissy fits and pulling each others hair about how short/tall Andrew of York is in real life.

Looking at him now, he’s looking to be no where near as tall as his brother, let alone The King’s sons.

by Anonymousreply 7September 19, 2022 11:35 AM

Agreed r3, amazing every time. This is spectacular, thoroughly.

by Anonymousreply 8September 19, 2022 11:35 AM

Charles should abdícate after a few years. He's bad for the favorability of the monarchy, which I think is quite vulnerable after QEII died, and people still love William and Kate.

by Anonymousreply 9September 19, 2022 11:35 AM

R2 can tell you the price of everything and the value of nothing.

by Anonymousreply 10September 19, 2022 11:35 AM

The music the Piper played from the balcony in Westminster was called “Sleep, dearie, sleep”.

Mary me all you like, but knowing how fitting that is just brought a tear to my eye.

by Anonymousreply 11September 19, 2022 11:35 AM

Harry may regret that he didn't at least gaze at that monument that Prince William saluted.

I suppose he had other things on his mind.

by Anonymousreply 12September 19, 2022 11:35 AM

Anal, tittie clamps & extreme bondage

by Anonymousreply 13September 19, 2022 11:35 AM

The Today show's Savannah Guthrie is vigorously sucking air dick.

by Anonymousreply 14September 19, 2022 11:36 AM

R10 can give you every trite cliché but nothing of actual value.

by Anonymousreply 15September 19, 2022 11:36 AM

[quote] I know this isn't the time or place, but good God - those men in uniform are heart-stoppingly handsome.

I totally agree!

I'm going to be searching for pictures of hot British military men, all day long!

by Anonymousreply 16September 19, 2022 11:36 AM

They're heading up the Mall to Buck House. Then?

by Anonymousreply 17September 19, 2022 11:37 AM

There won't be any abdication. Jesus, get a clue. So tired of seeing idiots urge abdication.

Learn something about the institution before commenting.

by Anonymousreply 18September 19, 2022 11:37 AM

Constitution Hill, r17

by Anonymousreply 19September 19, 2022 11:38 AM

R14 MSNBC is doing a decent job.

They seem to have some pretty good connections to British commentators, who are doing all the heavy lifting for today's ceremony.

Joe and Mika are mainly just adding a little here and there.

by Anonymousreply 20September 19, 2022 11:38 AM

Do I see horse shit on the side of the road as they march along? How do they keep all those horses from raising their tails and unloading?

by Anonymousreply 21September 19, 2022 11:38 AM

[quote] So when Charles’ turn comes he’ll be tugged off by a bunch of sailors?

Yes. After the incident with the horses during the 1901 funeral of his mother, Queen Victoria, Edward VII ordered that sailors would henceforth pull the gun carriage carrying the coffin of the monarch.

by Anonymousreply 22September 19, 2022 11:38 AM

The Mall looked majestic in every possible way.

by Anonymousreply 23September 19, 2022 11:38 AM

Aren't half of Brits atheist? I wonder what they think of any funerals, let alone this elaborate do.

by Anonymousreply 24September 19, 2022 11:39 AM

Those young soldiers marching sounds and looks amazing

by Anonymousreply 25September 19, 2022 11:39 AM

Well... the first bit with the bagpipe procession to the church was the best.

The service, typically traditional and a bit of a yawn

Procession redux now just going through the motions.

by Anonymousreply 26September 19, 2022 11:39 AM

Wow, look at them walking through that narrow archway.

These guys are ON POINT.

by Anonymousreply 27September 19, 2022 11:40 AM

R10: "The poverty of the 21st-century imagination betrays the dead and the living. Tradition honours with awe, and it provides those left behind with the language and actions to articulate the inexpressible.

The person who willingly submits to the ritual of the lying-in-state, argued Chesterton, “may not be an exceptional person but at least he understands what is meant by an exceptional occasion.” By contrast, the bright spark who stands above it all forfeits the wisdom of the crowd, and by rejecting history, discards a part of themselves, too – so that they are ignorant even of their own identity. "

by Anonymousreply 28September 19, 2022 11:40 AM

Oh! Some of those hot sailor boys are actually GIRLS.

by Anonymousreply 29September 19, 2022 11:41 AM

MSNBC just told a great story of how the Buckingham Palace staff opened the kitchen door and came out when The Queen's casket passed by.

How sweet.

by Anonymousreply 30September 19, 2022 11:41 AM

Have been in london for around a week, and just in case anyone was wondering, the people around and people I’ve talked to don’t really seem to give a shit about the funeral, not much interest in it. I think they’re waking up finally.

by Anonymousreply 31September 19, 2022 11:41 AM

[quote] Aren't half of Brits atheist? I wonder what they think of any funerals, let alone this elaborate do.

You don’t need to be religious to see the value of ceremony and to feel the urge to mark the loss of a loved one.

by Anonymousreply 32September 19, 2022 11:41 AM

r17 they carry on up to Admiral Arch, where the hearse is waiting. The coffin will be placed into it, for the drive out to Windsor.

by Anonymousreply 33September 19, 2022 11:41 AM

What was the name of the Queen's favourite horse that died about 10 years ? It was from the RCMP too.

by Anonymousreply 34September 19, 2022 11:42 AM

Where's Johnny? I need a pick me up.

by Anonymousreply 35September 19, 2022 11:42 AM

You guys think Meghan and Harry will hightail out of there tomorrow?

by Anonymousreply 36September 19, 2022 11:42 AM

R18 what's their to learn? I know Charles has wanted this his whole life, but a year ago people in America were taking down statues of Columbus. Idk what the BLM situation was in the UK, but it's a different world than from a couple years ago. Just saying in the long-run of monarchy favorability, the sooner Charles leaves the better.

by Anonymousreply 37September 19, 2022 11:42 AM

I'm so glad I stayed up for this, it's a mind-boggling spectacle, and the world hasn't seen the like for decades.

I mean, I'm 61 and there's excellent odds I'll see the next royal funeral, but it just won't be this awesome. There's such a sense of living history, not just all the regimental costumes that go back to the reign of George II or Henry VII, or the Koohinoor being paraded through the streets of London, but Elizabeth herself. As one of the commentators said, she was the last public living link to the era of WWII and the early 20th century. The generation that experienced the Blitz and served in the war against the Nazis is dead and gone, or incapacitated.

by Anonymousreply 38September 19, 2022 11:42 AM

R34: Burmese.

by Anonymousreply 39September 19, 2022 11:42 AM

Excellent, R28. Maybe R15 will consider this another trite cliché, though?

by Anonymousreply 40September 19, 2022 11:43 AM

Does Her Majesty get buried with the Crown Jewels?

by Anonymousreply 41September 19, 2022 11:43 AM

Whatfuckingever, r37

by Anonymousreply 42September 19, 2022 11:43 AM

Quite, R32. I'm athiest and enjoying every ceremonial moment.

by Anonymousreply 43September 19, 2022 11:43 AM

Absolutely, R36.

We mentioned it in the Part 1 thread, but Harry didn't even sing "God Save the King" for his father.

There is clearly no love lost between them.

I think he's just doing his duty one last time, and then he's out of there for good.

by Anonymousreply 44September 19, 2022 11:43 AM

Yes r36, first flight out. Especially if their kids are still in California, they've been gone for two weeks.

r31 where in London specifically is this?

by Anonymousreply 45September 19, 2022 11:44 AM

He and the missus will be back next year for the Coronation r44, count on it.

by Anonymousreply 46September 19, 2022 11:44 AM

And for those who want to continue last night's fight about Andrew's height, the camera just had a shot of the royal siblings taken from eye level, and Andrew is clearly several inches taller than Charles! But shorter than William and Harry.

But then, Charles looks like he's lost height, he looks 96 all right.

by Anonymousreply 47September 19, 2022 11:44 AM

R34:

Thanks, R39.

by Anonymousreply 49September 19, 2022 11:44 AM

Amazing, very powerful and moving; looking in from the mountain in SoCal; my late mother who left us at age 94 was from this generation and would have understood everything. As a baby she just missed sailing Titanic. History is being made; it's officially the end of their era.

by Anonymousreply 50September 19, 2022 11:45 AM

R45 mostly east and south. People seem a lot more concerned with the housing and energy crises.

by Anonymousreply 51September 19, 2022 11:45 AM

No r41 they will be ceremonially removed at the St George service later today, at Windsor. Her head Councillor (or something like that) will ceremonially break his stick in half, and lie it on her coffin, symbolizing the end of her reign.

by Anonymousreply 52September 19, 2022 11:46 AM

[quote] Have been in london for around a week, and just in case anyone was wondering, the people around and people I’ve talked to don’t really seem to give a shit about the funeral, not much interest in it. I think they’re waking up finally.

We (Brits) tend to fall into three categories:

republicans, who want nothing to do with this,

monarchists who queue with the tourists for hours to peer at the coffin and year for the sense of community,

and the vast silent majority who appreciate the history and symboliism of this moment and want it to be commemorated, but who find too much overt patriotism embarrassing and unbritish.

by Anonymousreply 53September 19, 2022 11:46 AM

Where's the bagpipe band made up of hot scotsmen?

by Anonymousreply 54September 19, 2022 11:46 AM

Crowd looking thin for this occasion

by Anonymousreply 55September 19, 2022 11:46 AM

It must be physically grueling, doing all that walking in heavy ceremonial garb. There will be many knackered people in London tonight.

by Anonymousreply 56September 19, 2022 11:46 AM

I thought the queen’s casket spray was…lacking. Both in size and beauty. My mom and sister, common Iowa folk, had better arrangements at their funerals. Otherwise, the whole ceremony and ritual has been lovely and touching.

by Anonymousreply 57September 19, 2022 11:46 AM

Biden took a wrong turn when leaving Westminster Abbey and is now wandering around Lambeth.

by Anonymousreply 58September 19, 2022 11:46 AM

r50 my grandmother was born same year as they Queen, raised in rural Missouri, she followed her entire life. She died a year ago, a shame as she would have loved every minute of this.

by Anonymousreply 59September 19, 2022 11:47 AM

I never imagined this would turn out this big event. This is just BIG.

by Anonymousreply 60September 19, 2022 11:47 AM

[quote]We mentioned it in the Part 1 thread, but Harry didn't even sing "God Save the King" for his father.

He sang up to the "God save the king" part, then appeared to stop. Meghan's mouth was still moving so she apparently was singing, even though he wasn't. A very odd moment.

by Anonymousreply 61September 19, 2022 11:47 AM

r55 you kidding? They had to turn people away from London. There are millions there today.

by Anonymousreply 62September 19, 2022 11:48 AM

R54 I think there’s a fourth group emerging that is very broad in that it’s people that are very anxious about their immediate and longer term futures and are totally turned off by this waste of resources.

by Anonymousreply 63September 19, 2022 11:49 AM

Charles's funeral won't be this BIG all right, it'll be more like "Next!".

by Anonymousreply 64September 19, 2022 11:49 AM

Painful car ride for Kate and kids listening to Camilla who is out of this world today.

by Anonymousreply 65September 19, 2022 11:50 AM

Christ the yapping on CNN! I have that feed and BBC's on now. Am muting CNN my god. Sky TV feed also very good, very clear.

by Anonymousreply 66September 19, 2022 11:50 AM

The media team is killing it, they know the world is watching

by Anonymousreply 67September 19, 2022 11:50 AM

Sophie watching out of window instead of saying something to Meghan, at least when camera showed them

by Anonymousreply 68September 19, 2022 11:51 AM

The silence of the crowds is impressive.

by Anonymousreply 69September 19, 2022 11:51 AM

Sophie and Markle each staring out her respective window, in silence.

by Anonymousreply 70September 19, 2022 11:51 AM

I think most Brits don’t mind part of their tax funding this. Especially as it’s a tiny percentage of each person’s monthly tax.

Sick of hearing people moan about it.

by Anonymousreply 71September 19, 2022 11:52 AM

The bouquet is symbolic, and made from flowers taken from the Queen's garden at Buckingham and Charles' garden at Highgrove. It contains rosemary for remembrance, and myrtle as a wymbol for a happy marriage/happiness.

"The myrtle in the Queen’s funeral wreath is cut from a plant grown from Myrtle in The Queen's wedding bouquet, according to the Royal Family."

Good shot of Harry's junk stuffed in his pinstripe trousers. Dressed right.

by Anonymousreply 73September 19, 2022 11:52 AM

Don't you kind of wish Sophie Wessex would take this moment while Harry's first wife is trapped and ask: Why are you doing this and what will make you stop?

by Anonymousreply 74September 19, 2022 11:53 AM

In fairness, it wouldn't look right for anyone in the procession to be carrying on animated conversations. They're supposed to be mourning.

Did Harry and Meghan really remain silent during God Save the King?

by Anonymousreply 75September 19, 2022 11:53 AM

PBS has the best coverage of this.

by Anonymousreply 76September 19, 2022 11:53 AM

I don't understand the comments about the bouquet clashing, as the purple of the royal crown and the pillow it rests on already clash, so having some transitional shades of purple, red, pink and maroon in the bouquet actually helps make it all look like a cohesive design.

by Anonymousreply 77September 19, 2022 11:53 AM

Why does Harry always looks like he never showers .

by Anonymousreply 78September 19, 2022 11:54 AM

r71 the cost is offset by the millions of dollars of television and tourist revenue generated, plus all the spending done by the people thronging London right now. All hotels full, restaurants full.

by Anonymousreply 79September 19, 2022 11:54 AM

NHS staff are second in line of the procession, at the Queen's request. The Royal Family love to extol the NHS, which makes it even more difficult to make justified criticisms of it that might benefit people who use it. Of course the royals never use it themselves.

by Anonymousreply 80September 19, 2022 11:54 AM

True r77. I made the clashing observation in the prior thread. I just prefer the white/cream sprays better, for some reason.

by Anonymousreply 81September 19, 2022 11:54 AM

R75 true but they could at least look at each other once in a while, it looked cold and reserved

by Anonymousreply 82September 19, 2022 11:55 AM

I can tell you from personal experience that the nearest empty hotel room to London is Manchester. Otherwise, I'd be there instead of here.

by Anonymousreply 83September 19, 2022 11:55 AM

Agree, R78. Could he not have cleaned up his hairline before this week?

by Anonymousreply 84September 19, 2022 11:55 AM

Because, r74, Sophie already knows the answer to that question: A HUGE payoff. The Harkles are extortionists.

by Anonymousreply 85September 19, 2022 11:56 AM

I wish the crowd would stop clapping. It’s inappropriate.

by Anonymousreply 86September 19, 2022 11:56 AM

[quote] I think there’s a fourth group emerging that is very broad in that it’s people that are very anxious about their immediate and longer term futures and are totally turned off by this waste of resources.

We pay for most of the resources anyway. The soldiers here in their dress uniforms are the same ones we send abroad to fight and defend us.

We (Brits) reserve the right to complain and dissent about absolutely everything, but it would be a foolish politician who proposed scrapping any of these regiments or eradicating our ability to put on this event.

by Anonymousreply 87September 19, 2022 11:57 AM

Harry isn't that bad. At least compared to some other royal princes.

Here is Prince Dipendra of Nepal who killed 9 members of his family in a bloodbath some 20 years ago.

The horses in the procession looks better than the Queen consort

by Anonymousreply 89September 19, 2022 11:57 AM

Eek! The chryon on CNN just now: "Queen's coffin take final tour of London". Final TOUR? Who's running the show over there, that new guy is supposed to suck but I didn't realize it would be this bad.

by Anonymousreply 90September 19, 2022 11:58 AM

[quote]Did Harry and Meghan really remain silent during God Save the King?

When the camera transitioned to them, Harry's mouth was moving, but it appeared to stop just as he got to "God save the king." If you enlarge the screen, it almost looks like he sings the "god save the" part and then skips "king." Meghan's face was mostly hidden but you could see the corner of her mouth and she continued to sing.

Edward didn't look like he was singing, either, oddly enough. You can rewind on the BBC YouTube version to see it.

by Anonymousreply 91September 19, 2022 11:58 AM

Are all the dignitaries in the procession?

by Anonymousreply 92September 19, 2022 11:59 AM

I take it back about Edward not singing, he just finished early for some reason.

by Anonymousreply 93September 19, 2022 12:00 PM

Meghan was probably quietly singing "My Country Tis Of Thee".

by Anonymousreply 94September 19, 2022 12:00 PM

How many chickens gave up their lives for those helmets????

by Anonymousreply 95September 19, 2022 12:01 PM

It's all a bit pathetic when you think about it for the British Empire which once ruled 23% of the world, and now only only a shell of its former glory and clinging to pomp and circumstance trying to look powerful and relevant to the world. Systems of oppression are going away.

by Anonymousreply 96September 19, 2022 12:02 PM

I know I was, R94!

by Anonymousreply 97September 19, 2022 12:02 PM

Hell, *I* was singing "My Country Tis of Thee," at least when I wasn't singing the Royal Canadian Kilted Yaksmen version.

by Anonymousreply 98September 19, 2022 12:02 PM

[quote]When the camera transitioned to them, Harry's mouth was moving, but it appeared to stop just as he got to "God save the king."

I thought I heard "God save the Queen" not King.

by Anonymousreply 99September 19, 2022 12:02 PM

OT Will Justin T enjoy company of some of those soldiers later today or will he settle for hairy chested Emmanuel M?

by Anonymousreply 100September 19, 2022 12:03 PM

R96 How are we trying to look powerful to the world? This is how monarch’s funerals are.

Countries outside the UK had no obligation to even show any of this.

by Anonymousreply 101September 19, 2022 12:03 PM

Are those Scottsmen going commando under their kilts?

by Anonymousreply 102September 19, 2022 12:03 PM

by Anonymousreply 103September 19, 2022 12:04 PM

by Anonymousreply 104September 19, 2022 12:04 PM

by Anonymousreply 105September 19, 2022 12:05 PM

Where ARE the hot scotsmen who were there before the church service?

I loved watching their ... sporrans...

by Anonymousreply 106September 19, 2022 12:05 PM

The Queen's piper, Major Burns, did a beautiful job of Sleep, Dearie, Sleep.

It was noted the Queen loved piping, and every morning at 9 AM, the piper would play for her.

by Anonymousreply 107September 19, 2022 12:05 PM

I found it to be a cold spectacle - impressive but not moving.

by Anonymousreply 108September 19, 2022 12:06 PM

So much marching! Poor Charles and the rest of the older men out there in various regiments.

William looks steadfast - dare I say kingly?

by Anonymousreply 109September 19, 2022 12:07 PM

Camilla looks like she needs drink.

by Anonymousreply 110September 19, 2022 12:07 PM

Once the proceedings moved outdoors, it was interesting that the sparkle of the Koh-i-Noor was visible through the TV.

by Anonymousreply 111September 19, 2022 12:07 PM

The procession to Westminster was quite moving, I thought, as was the piper, and God Save the King, oddly enough. Much of the sermon was dry, but they always are. The procession to Windsor Castle is interminable.

by Anonymousreply 112September 19, 2022 12:08 PM

Looks like Buckingham Palace has yet to get a DEI officer in HR.

by Anonymousreply 118September 19, 2022 12:11 PM

I don't think the Kor-noor diamond is on the crown on the coffin. It has the Cullinan diamond

It has 2,868 diamonds, 273 pearls, 17 sapphires, 11 emeralds and four rubies. It is said to be priceless. The 317-carat Cullinan II centerpiece diamond on its own is worth hundreds of millions of pounds. It was cut from the largest diamond ever found, a 3,601-carat stone found in Africa in 1905.

Are the officers who carry the coffin specially chosen for their honorable service?

by Anonymousreply 121September 19, 2022 12:12 PM

They've pulled a lot of this pomp out of thin air, not tradition. It could have been half as many days and still have been fabulous, impressive, regal, stately, dignified, etc. Whatever, I don't mind. Just an observation. There have been way too many services, for example. There are 3 services today! The Royal Family must be on good speed.

There’s the service at Windsor this afternoon, a more intimate ceremony like that for Phillip, but with 800 mourners.

by Anonymousreply 125September 19, 2022 12:13 PM

After the Affair of the Pens, you get a sense of how much Camilla props up Charles. After a week of walkabout dramas, who does/doesn't wear a uniform and of course Who Sits Where/Order of Procession - and add to that a broken toe - who can blame the old girl for being completely over it? Though it does really make you wonder if she & Charles have the stamina for the work ahead of them.

by Anonymousreply 126September 19, 2022 12:13 PM

Fergie was behind Kate, no fucking way? Cheers 🍻 Mum!

by Anonymousreply 127September 19, 2022 12:14 PM

by Anonymousreply 158September 19, 2022 12:27 PM

Queen Elizabeth II will finally part company with the Imperial State Crown, orb and sceptre as the final hymn is sung at her committal ceremony, in what is likely to be one of the most moving moments of today's funeral.

Throughout her lying in state, the symbols of monarchy have adorned her coffin, and they will remain there during her funeral at Westminster Abbey and the committal at St George’s Chapel, Windsor.

They will only be removed in the final moments before the public sees its last images of the monarch’s coffin.

Before the final hymn is sung in St George’s Chapel during the ceremony that begins at 4pm today, Mark Appleby, the Crown Jeweller, will remove the crown, orb and sceptre from the coffin, with the help of the Bargemaster and the Serjeants-at-Arms – royal servants who guard the regalia during state occasions. They will pass them one by one to the Dean of Windsor, who will place them on the high altar.

At the end of the hymn, the King will place a military flag on top of the coffin which, according to the Army, will be placed inside her coffin before she is interred.

The Grenadier Guards Queen’s Company Camp Colour – a small flag which normally adorns the Company Captain’s bunk designating his place of work – is unique to each sovereign and ceases to be used when they die. The full-sized version of the flag is currently draped at the foot of the Queen’s coffin as she lies in state.

The Grenadier Guards are the most senior of the Foot Guards regiments, and the Queen was their Colonel in Chief.

Once the King has placed the colours on top of the coffin, the Lord Chamberlain, the most senior officer of the Royal household, will break his wand of office and place it there.

The Queen was so generous and deferential when it came to Diana’s funeral, hers seemed completely staid and unremarkable by comparison. There were no emotional moments and the music selections were as lifeless as Her Majesty’s body. by Anonymousreply 278September 19, 2022 1:21 PM

I'm not watching CNN because I get BBC and knew better than to watch CNN (given they sent Don Lemon over) but the comments from others have really turned me off them. They're not good at anything and the network is a mess of drama.

by Anonymousreply 279September 19, 2022 1:21 PM

r231 and r237 are the exact kinds of hypocrites I'm talking about. Either that or they're not true atheists. We've had great scientists throughout history who happened to be atheist. Possibly, even, a majority. But when it comes to art, even basic forms such as performance, atheists have been lacking because a belief in a higher power or, at minimum, spirituality, is essential.

by Anonymousreply 280September 19, 2022 1:22 PM

LOL, R278... I remember that dress!

by Anonymousreply 281September 19, 2022 1:22 PM

Morning Dress, rather than mourning dress, please dear R278.

by Anonymousreply 282September 19, 2022 1:22 PM

Seems Sophie was charged with minding Meghan at the week's events. Her final dutiful service to the Queen.

Jill Biden's hat looked like one of those headband bows they put on bald baby girls. Jill is Italian, right?

by Anonymousreply 285September 19, 2022 1:23 PM

Why is Prince George in a blue suit?

by Anonymousreply 286September 19, 2022 1:23 PM

Is it true the Sussexes were unhappy at being uninvited to the reception with all world leaders?

by Anonymousreply 287September 19, 2022 1:24 PM

Morning dress is a style calling for formal daywear. Mourning dress is worn by the bereaved. R278 is not wrongl

by Anonymousreply 288September 19, 2022 1:24 PM

Children are not meant to wear black to funerals. Cf, John and Caroline Kennedy at their father’s.

by Anonymousreply 290September 19, 2022 1:26 PM

Haa hee the commentators on the ITV online feed were talking about PMs being sacked, that's what made me think of it.

by Anonymousreply 291September 19, 2022 1:27 PM

Sophie will need a stiff drink when all this is over and she can relax at home. She has been stuck with Meghan all week, and I imagine without a word spoken between them. What a trouper, I couldn’t have done it.

by Anonymousreply 292September 19, 2022 1:27 PM

No, dear, it’s mourning attire, R282.

I wasn’t speaking about a man’s morning suit.

by Anonymousreply 296September 19, 2022 1:30 PM

We live to pounce on each other and prove one another wrong, so it's always amazing to me how people leave themselves open to it by failing to Google to make sure their understanding is right before they pronounce with such certainty. Often erroneously. But it is a bit like your dog getting the fox.

Jill needs a stylist...or a better stylist,

by Anonymousreply 298September 19, 2022 1:31 PM

by Anonymousreply 318September 19, 2022 1:41 PM

by Anonymousreply 369September 19, 2022 2:16 PM

While I know the topic of wearing uniforms has been hotly debated the last week, I couldn't help but feel kind of bad for Andrew & Harry being stripped of their uniforms for today's procession. Certainly there are valid reasons, particularly for Andrew, but it's clearly the mark of being "out of favor" with a person you loved, regardless of their title. When the end comes with a parent or grandparent, you always want to feel like you left things in the best possible way.

by Anonymousreply 370September 19, 2022 2:16 PM

I love that they always do a procession. The hearse could have just dropped her off in front of the church but no, another marching band, guards and procession.

Tony Blair and Earl Spencer's are at Windsor. I guess they didn't make the Westminster Abbey guest list.

by Anonymousreply 401September 19, 2022 2:29 PM

Windsor in the home of the Knights of the Garter and St George's Chapel is the Garter chapel. Blair and the other 24 Knights of the Garter would have been invited.

by Anonymousreply 402September 19, 2022 2:29 PM

Angela Kelley was closer to the Queen than any other person except Philip for the last 20 or so years. She's probably been in her house weeping inconsolably for this entire week.

by Anonymousreply 403September 19, 2022 2:30 PM

Damn, I bet a lot of people will be relieved when the old crow is finally in the ground this evening. How many ceremonies, processions and services have we seen these last couple of days?

by Anonymousreply 405September 19, 2022 2:32 PM

by Anonymousreply 406September 19, 2022 2:33 PM

Paul Whybrew, known as ‘tall Paul’ has done a sterling job this week. He has lead the Queen’s coffin through both of the processions this week. He is still in front of it now, a lot of walking today.

He is the Queen’s favourite page/butler and has been with her for 44 years.

by Anonymousreply 411September 19, 2022 2:35 PM

She did R410. Bagpipes are wonderful instruments for funerals. Other times, not so much, but is mournful for this ceremony,

by Anonymousreply 412September 19, 2022 2:36 PM

Tall Paul, the giant we see ahead of the hearse, was apparently among the tiny number who formed the Queen's 'Covid bubble' for many months on end with her. I suspect the group in front of the hearse may be her Covid bubble aides.

by Anonymousreply 413September 19, 2022 2:36 PM

The tall guy in glasses is winning the Abbey so far for "Best Grieving Face!"

Biden isn't at this one?

by Anonymousreply 421September 19, 2022 2:39 PM

OK, so it looks like the 2 cars following the hearse have gone - up to be near St George Chapel?

Back when they switched to the hearse, I did see Anne and Tim get in one of the cars.

Who was in the other car?

I thought I saw Charles still standing outside when Anne climbed into the car.

TIA

by Anonymousreply 422September 19, 2022 2:40 PM

LMAO at the stupid bitch wooing and clapping!

by Anonymousreply 423September 19, 2022 2:40 PM

What was the first funeral people decided clapping and cheering was the right thing to do? I'm guessing Diana. I know its respectful but it just seems weird as shit.

by Anonymousreply 424September 19, 2022 2:40 PM

Am I the only one that gets teary eyed when they play the bagpipes? There’s something eerie and sad about the way they sound.

by Anonymousreply 425September 19, 2022 2:41 PM

Why would he be, r421?

by Anonymousreply 426September 19, 2022 2:41 PM

R403 Tall Pall was very close to the Queen. She trusted him enough to tell him were she keeps the keys to her safes and locked boxes that contain her dairies and other personal items.

by Anonymousreply 427September 19, 2022 2:41 PM

I laughed at that, r397. "Angela Kelly looks heartbroken as she attends Queen's funeral at Westminster Abbey" next to a photo of her with a huge smile on her face.

by Anonymousreply 428September 19, 2022 2:41 PM

R414, He is Paul Whybrew, who worked for The Queen since at least 1982 when he sounded the alert when an intruder broke into her apartments at Buckingham Palace. He’s been at her side for 40 years, watched TV with her, kept her safe through Covid. He’s earned the right to grieve.

by Anonymousreply 429September 19, 2022 2:41 PM

Because they just showed Trudeau, R426.

by Anonymousreply 430September 19, 2022 2:42 PM

r421 I'm guessing this one is just Commonwealth leaders and other monarchs.

by Anonymousreply 431September 19, 2022 2:43 PM

That was the father, "Tall Paul" r429. This is the son "Tall Paul".

by Anonymousreply 432September 19, 2022 2:43 PM

Those horses are about to riot.

by Anonymousreply 433September 19, 2022 2:44 PM

Am peppering my Dad, a former Merchant Marine, with annoying questions about all the guards and their insignia🙃

by Anonymousreply 434September 19, 2022 2:44 PM

[quote]LMAO at the stupid bitch wooing and clapping!

There has been SO MUCH of this all day, and I don't understand it. Huge cheers when Charles was headed for the procession, especially.

by Anonymousreply 435September 19, 2022 2:44 PM

Kate looks amazing today

by Anonymousreply 436September 19, 2022 2:44 PM

[quote] In 1982, he wrestled intruder Michael Fagan to the ground after he broke into the Queen's bedroom at Buckingham Palace

[quote] After calming Fagan down, Mr Whybrew is said to have offered him a whisky.

Never heard that bit of the story before.

by Anonymousreply 437September 19, 2022 2:46 PM

I may have welled up a bit when the lone piper walked away.

by Anonymousreply 438September 19, 2022 2:46 PM

She really does, r436. Jaw-droppingly beautiful.

by Anonymousreply 439September 19, 2022 2:47 PM

Did the family take a helicopter to get to Windsor so fast?

by Anonymousreply 440September 19, 2022 2:48 PM

Yes the lone piper got me right in the feels.

by Anonymousreply 441September 19, 2022 2:49 PM

Not the pony!

by Anonymousreply 442September 19, 2022 2:49 PM

The pony pawing the ground as The Queen drove past…

by Anonymousreply 443September 19, 2022 2:49 PM

It looks like they've brought one of her Fell ponies out to stand alongside the route?

by Anonymousreply 444September 19, 2022 2:50 PM

Barron Trump in the procession....

by Anonymousreply 445September 19, 2022 2:51 PM

They brought out the Queen's Highland pony Emma out to watch the procession and I started tearing up again.

by Anonymousreply 446September 19, 2022 2:51 PM

[quote]What was the first funeral people decided clapping and cheering was the right thing to do? I'm guessing Diana.

After Diana's brother gave his eulogy the sound of the public clapping and cheering in Hyde Park, where they were watching on huge screens, could be heard inside the Abbey. But the rest of the time the public were all sobbing and clutching their nearest and dearest for comfort. It really was the most boggling show of public grief since the first Act of Evita.

The eulogy in question was a huge "up you" to the BRF. That seems to have been forgotten now.

by Anonymousreply 447September 19, 2022 2:51 PM

Emma is a Fell, not a Highland, sorry.

by Anonymousreply 448September 19, 2022 2:52 PM

r445 Was he next to the stable? I thought it was him but I couldn't think why the hell he was there in general never mind lined up with the grooms.

by Anonymousreply 449September 19, 2022 2:53 PM

The first time I’ve teared up was seeing Emma paw the ground and the staff from the stables curtsy and bow.

by Anonymousreply 450September 19, 2022 2:54 PM

I can't take that funeral march anymore. I'm still watching the BBC online but I switched off the sound and turned on a YouTube with "morning café light bossa nova."

by Anonymousreply 451September 19, 2022 2:54 PM

So this is happening in the late afternoon, I wonder why not earlier in the day.

by Anonymousreply 452September 19, 2022 2:55 PM

by Anonymousreply 456September 19, 2022 2:56 PM

Oh, Jesus, the dogs just got me.

by Anonymousreply 457September 19, 2022 2:56 PM

Has anybody else seen the picture of Meghan wiping a single tear from her eye? What an actress.

by Anonymousreply 458September 19, 2022 2:56 PM

Yeah, the dogs got me.

by Anonymousreply 459September 19, 2022 2:57 PM

William does look like a king.

by Anonymousreply 460September 19, 2022 2:57 PM

Oh god not the corgis!

by Anonymousreply 461September 19, 2022 2:57 PM

Oh fuck! The corgies!! NOW I'm crying!!

by Anonymousreply 462September 19, 2022 2:58 PM

Does Harry have ADHD?

by Anonymousreply 463September 19, 2022 2:58 PM

Her corgis were there...love to see the animals included.

by Anonymousreply 464September 19, 2022 2:58 PM

Now Charlie knows what it's like to mourn his mother in front of the world.

by Anonymousreply 465September 19, 2022 2:59 PM

The one-two punch of Emma and then the corgis got me, too.

by Anonymousreply 466September 19, 2022 2:59 PM

Princess Anne is the only royal woman in the procession.

Mad respect for her.

by Anonymousreply 467September 19, 2022 3:00 PM

The Windsor ceremony seems to be the real ceremony.

by Anonymousreply 469September 19, 2022 3:00 PM

by Anonymousreply 470September 19, 2022 3:01 PM

My 1st cousin Artie (Arthur) is living in London, works in the financial district& was out front of Westminster Abbey when the RF pulled up. Artie was like " OMG, I wanna fuck the Princess of Wales" when Kate got out of the car. He said she looked Beautiful, sad but beautiful! 3 guys beside him said, "so do I mate, so do I". Artie saying that "No one does the pageantry like the British", he quietly yelling at me going" U live for this Royal shit, why aren't u fucking here"? His GF is a stunning auburn female police detective got him a pass for out front. I told Artie, "U better marry that woman" . More to the story later.

by Anonymousreply 471September 19, 2022 3:01 PM

On Gloucester!! Still schlepping!!!

by Anonymousreply 472September 19, 2022 3:02 PM

Harry looks to be bulging a little bit in those tight pants.

by Anonymousreply 473September 19, 2022 3:02 PM

R469. The Queen loved piping and her piper played for her every morning at 9 AM.

by Anonymousreply 474September 19, 2022 3:02 PM

r470 Beside you mean? They can't be that short of space in St. George's surely.

by Anonymousreply 475September 19, 2022 3:03 PM

Really< r474? I never knew that.

by Anonymousreply 476September 19, 2022 3:03 PM

It's true. The George VI chapel is 18' deep but not very big.

by Anonymousreply 477September 19, 2022 3:04 PM

Where are the spouses? Already at the church?

by Anonymousreply 478September 19, 2022 3:04 PM

r474 I, too, love piping every morning at 9 AM.

by Anonymousreply 479September 19, 2022 3:04 PM

So much unpack, R471 but does the girlfriend know Artie yells out (in public, waiting for a funeral to start) that he wants to “fuck” another woman?

by Anonymousreply 480September 19, 2022 3:05 PM

R470 So Philip is a bottom?

by Anonymousreply 481September 19, 2022 3:05 PM

R347 Yeah, so?

by Anonymousreply 482September 19, 2022 3:05 PM

According to Starkey, r475 they've built some kind of special frame inside the grave because so many Kings and Queens are buried in the chapel. They will be buried together in the same plot, one above the other.

by Anonymousreply 483September 19, 2022 3:06 PM

Dad reckons they’re gonna chuck that priceless Sceptre into the tomb with Bets. Every monarch gets their own personal one, apparently, unlike the Orb (whatever that’s for) and the Crown.

by Anonymousreply 491September 19, 2022 3:08 PM

by Anonymousreply 492September 19, 2022 3:08 PM

r490 No the head of her household breaks a ceremonial wand. That orb and sceptre are over 300 years old they're not smashing them up.

by Anonymousreply 496September 19, 2022 3:09 PM

by Anonymousreply 502September 19, 2022 3:10 PM

by Anonymousreply 504September 19, 2022 3:10 PM

by Anonymousreply 508September 19, 2022 3:11 PM

by Anonymousreply 509September 19, 2022 3:12 PM

Charles should wear gloves all the time to hide his ugly hands.

by Anonymousreply 510September 19, 2022 3:12 PM

by Anonymousreply 511September 19, 2022 3:12 PM

She's gotta be bouncing around in there.

by Anonymousreply 512September 19, 2022 3:12 PM

I'm at work now too Della, glad to see you're still here.

I see in the closeups that the Orb and Sceptre are -attached- to the coffin top thru fasteners thru the Royal Standard. So that's how they do it! The Brits very efficient in all things spectacle.

by Anonymousreply 521September 19, 2022 3:14 PM

Harry looks entirely crumpled. Wrinkles everywhere! Andrew is right next to him in the same outfit and looks perfectly pressed.

by Anonymousreply 522September 19, 2022 3:14 PM

by Anonymousreply 523September 19, 2022 3:15 PM

by Anonymousreply 524September 19, 2022 3:15 PM

Did anyone catch a glimpse of Fergie at any point? I didn't. I would be shocked if she stayed away, or was kept away.

by Anonymousreply 525September 19, 2022 3:15 PM

Why are these churches so narrow with different rooms?

by Anonymousreply 526September 19, 2022 3:16 PM

Because they were built nearly a thousand years ago r526?

by Anonymousreply 527September 19, 2022 3:17 PM

Fergie was behind Kate in the Abbey.

by Anonymousreply 528September 19, 2022 3:17 PM

This is Philip's internment too, r525, so I wouldn't be surprised if they kept Fergie away from this one.

[quote]Harry looks entirely crumpled. Wrinkles everywhere!

He don't care. His Daddie-King Dearest book is out in a few months.

by Anonymousreply 530September 19, 2022 3:17 PM

r524 Apparently during George V's funeral the orb fell off and it was regarded as a very bad omen. So its at least got some velcro on it.

by Anonymousreply 531September 19, 2022 3:17 PM

The flowers in the wreath on the coffin do appear to be a bit bedraggled. Someone else mentioned this earlier.

by Anonymousreply 532September 19, 2022 3:18 PM

Fergie has not been allowed near St George's. She's getting drunk with the Bidens back in London.

by Anonymousreply 533September 19, 2022 3:18 PM

I have been looking at photos from the Daily Mail and BBC and its interesting. Whenever Princess Catherine is around Meghan, she keeps her children VERY FAR away from her. Fergie is there, I saw her photo on the Daily Mail site

by Anonymousreply 534September 19, 2022 3:18 PM

Lady Louise and Viscount Severn are all by themselves in the chapel.

by Anonymousreply 535September 19, 2022 3:18 PM

The Russian Contakion, just gorgeous - take a listen.

by Anonymousreply 536September 19, 2022 3:18 PM

r525 Fergie was at the first ceremony, you could see her behind George in the second row.

by Anonymousreply 537September 19, 2022 3:19 PM

Someone didn’t tell Kate about the seating arrangements?

by Anonymousreply 538September 19, 2022 3:19 PM

And the pallbearers have exited for their well-earned group shower and sauna.

by Anonymousreply 539September 19, 2022 3:19 PM

What did William just say to them?

by Anonymousreply 540September 19, 2022 3:19 PM

They should have let the pall bearers stay. Mind oyu, I bet they are gagging for a pint.

by Anonymousreply 541September 19, 2022 3:19 PM

Is this the same church Harry got married in?

by Anonymousreply 542September 19, 2022 3:19 PM

R529 Is it? Where have they been keeping Phillip until now?

by Anonymousreply 545September 19, 2022 3:21 PM

[quote]Whenever Princess Catherine is around Meghan, she keeps her children VERY FAR away from her

by Anonymousreply 546September 19, 2022 3:21 PM

by Anonymousreply 551September 19, 2022 3:22 PM

by Anonymousreply 552September 19, 2022 3:22 PM

r545 he's been down below in the vault for the past year. He'll be moved over to the St. George chapel tonite, where his in-laws and Princess Margaret are already interred.

by Anonymousreply 553September 19, 2022 3:22 PM

I recognize a couple of the guys in the choir from Philip's service.

by Anonymousreply 554September 19, 2022 3:22 PM

r547 Mr Singer, please. This is a funeral.

by Anonymousreply 555September 19, 2022 3:23 PM

There was one guy (a member of The Queen's household staff I believe) in the procession who was about 7'+ tall and thin as a rake. He looked just like Lurch from The Addams Family. He was a good foot & a half taller than the guy marching next too him.

by Anonymousreply 556September 19, 2022 3:23 PM

The men in the choir are overemoting. A lot of surprise anal face.

by Anonymousreply 557September 19, 2022 3:23 PM

Meghan must know that nobody really wants to be seated next to her.

by Anonymousreply 558September 19, 2022 3:23 PM

Those fan vaults are something else.

by Anonymousreply 559September 19, 2022 3:23 PM

Nonsense. Cathering doesn't want the Skank of Sussex or her dog next to her children. Sitting in the same row right now is the closest Harry and Meghan will get to the Cambridges for the rest of their lives.

by Anonymousreply 584September 19, 2022 3:31 PM

r574 Yeah because if there's on thing the Welsh hate its choirs. Anyway its meant to be over in about 20 minutes

by Anonymousreply 585September 19, 2022 3:31 PM

Yes Camilla looks knackered, as they say. She'll be taking a long nap after all of this is over, and pouring herself a tall G&T.

by Anonymousreply 586September 19, 2022 3:31 PM

I bet Sophie released a silent-but-deadly when she was alone in the car with Meghan.

by Anonymousreply 587September 19, 2022 3:31 PM

Right after this is all over the Harkles are really going to regret their behaviour.

They've seen nothing yet, respect for the Queen shielded them.

by Anonymousreply 588September 19, 2022 3:31 PM

Camilla is exhausted as she has had to stay up late soothing the new King after his many tantrums. And perhaps helping move and place his toilet seat as he moves amongst his palaces.

R574 - below is some good news for you.

R581 don’t know many real Brits, do you?

One of the most infamous tales in my family is the funeral of my Great Uncle Reg, during which an inheritance dispute broke out mid service and shotguns were brandished. Granted, they are farming folk and it was fifty or so years ago, but still.

by Anonymousreply 590September 19, 2022 3:33 PM

^^^^ Says Eastern Illinios University, you say, r589? Well then it MUST be true!

Chaplain: Let us praise God. Oh Lord…

Congregation: Oh Lord…

Chaplain: Oooh you are so big…

Congregation: Oooh you are so big…

Chaplain: So absolutely huge.

Congregation: So ab – solutely huge.

Chaplain: Gosh, we’re all really impressed down here I can tell you.

Congregation: Gosh, we’re all really impressed down here I can tell you.

Chaplain: Forgive Us, O Lord, for this dreadful toadying.

Congregation: And barefaced flattery.

Chaplain: But you are so strong and, well, just so super.

by Anonymousreply 592September 19, 2022 3:34 PM

I take it you've never been to a Catholic service, R574? Talk about bloviating.

by Anonymousreply 593September 19, 2022 3:34 PM

R590 Did a branch of your family happen to migrate to Appalachia?

by Anonymousreply 594September 19, 2022 3:34 PM

Eek. Uncle Harry just tried to talk to me!

by Anonymousreply 595September 19, 2022 3:35 PM

Fergie is at the Windsor service, too.

by Anonymousreply 596September 19, 2022 3:36 PM

R540 “let the whore and retard go first.”

Where are Fergie’s girls?

by Anonymousreply 599September 19, 2022 3:37 PM

These Anglican services are NOTHING compared to Eastern Orthodox. They go on for hours and hours and hours. Stand, sit, kneel x 1000.

HM QEII should have had a Pagan sendoff 🐉

r596 I hope they remembered to chain up Philips coffin then. If there's one thing certain to bring out the latent Dracul blood its her within a hundred feet of his body.

by Anonymousreply 602September 19, 2022 3:38 PM

Oh, snap on and drilled on, interesting!

by Anonymousreply 603September 19, 2022 3:39 PM

What a gorgeous hymn!

by Anonymousreply 604September 19, 2022 3:39 PM

Charles covets the removal of the Crown.

by Anonymousreply 605September 19, 2022 3:39 PM

To R480, she is well aware of what he said about Kate. They are "not married yet" his GF Serena said to him. And he was "whispering loudly" into his headset like all Philly people do while he was talking to me.

She said, "The Princess looks stunning"!!

by Anonymousreply 606September 19, 2022 3:40 PM

The crown, septer and orb.... now removed from the coffin. Sad...

by Anonymousreply 607September 19, 2022 3:40 PM

Tears now

by Anonymousreply 608September 19, 2022 3:41 PM

R600, I went to a friend's wedding and she had a mass. My knees were KILLING me!

It was also weird because it wasn't a closed mass (is that possible?) It was in Spring Lake, NJ and it was Summer. People arrived to the Mass in cut offs and flip flops!

by Anonymousreply 609September 19, 2022 3:41 PM

This part is very sad.

by Anonymousreply 610September 19, 2022 3:42 PM

R606 I’m a lesbian and I’d fuck Kate. Bet she’s a hellion.

by Anonymousreply 611September 19, 2022 3:42 PM

R609 Spring lake is lovely in summer

by Anonymousreply 612September 19, 2022 3:43 PM

Hereford & Gloucester cathedrals are more stunning than Westminster, imo.

by Anonymousreply 613September 19, 2022 3:45 PM

The snapping of the wand made me tear up.

Is Lord Chambo out of a job now then?

by Anonymousreply 614September 19, 2022 3:47 PM

It's crazy to see how ugly things have gotten between Will, Kate, and Harry after knowing how close they'd been for years. Kate seems to be someone with amazing emotional IQ and was raised by a stable and supportive family and I get the sense she's reasonable and empathetic in family matters (she even brought Meghan flowers as a peacekeeper) so I don't think she'd be angry or cold unless something really nasty and unforgivable happened.

by Anonymousreply 615September 19, 2022 3:47 PM

Is there a post-funeral hashover thread?

by Anonymousreply 616September 19, 2022 3:57 PM

R617, do you think planting a story about your husband having an affair would qualify?…

by Anonymousreply 617September 19, 2022 4:01 PM

The churches are narrow with wings on either sides of the aisles because they are built in the form of the Cross.

Westminster Abbey from the sky.
