The order of precedence among women in the UK
Camilla does rank first among women, of course, since she is the queen consort, and Catherine ranks second as princess of Wales.
But here's the thing: as the wife of the king's younger son, Meghan should rank third, even ahead of the Princess Royal (Anne), Princess Alexandra, and the York daughters, even though they were born royal and she (like Camilla and Catherine) was not. They would have to curtsy to her in public.
Does she have this status? or did losing the HRH appellation mean that she does not?

Who is the woman on the far right, and why is she standing in front of Kate?

That’s Sophie, Countess of Wessex, wife of Prince Edward. She’s in front of Kate because at that event the children of Queen Elizabeth and their spouses walked in front of her grandchildren and their spouses.

A daughter-in-law (such as Sophie) outranks a daughter (such as Anne). Outrageous!

A woman adopts the status of her husband.

I can guarantee you, Princess Anne, Princess Alexandra, the York Princesses, Lady Sarah Chatto, Lady Louise Windsor, and Zara Tindall will not curtsy to Meghan, ever. Sophie, the Duchess of Gloucester, and Princess Michael might curtsy to her if she's with Harry. If she's not with Harry, no curtsies.
Don't expect Princess Anne, Princess Alexandra, the York Princesses to ever curtsy to Kate until she becomes Queen.

[quote] A daughter-in-law (such as Sophie) outranks a daughter (such as Anne). Outrageous! That's fairly recent.
In Queen Victoria's time, her daughters out-ranked her daughters-in-law, except for the Princess of Wales. And later an exception was made for a Russian Grand Duchess who married one of Queen Victoria's younger sons. The Grand Duchess demanded rank immediately after Queen Victoria herself because she was the daughter of a Tsar and ahead of the Princess of Wales. It took a couple of years to resolve the matter, whereby the Russian Grand Duchess (Duchess of Edinburgh in the UK) was given rank immediately after the Princess of Wales and before the Queen's daughters and the other daughters-in-law of the Queen.
King Charles can reset the order of Precedence any time he chooses.

Practically, none of the members of the royal family bow to anyone else except the sovereign and their spouse. So, order of precedence doesn’t really matter on a day to day basis. But state functions do offer a unique opportunities to see the rules in action.

That’s Flossie. She was the Royal Keeper of the Cunt and was especially good at French braids. With embellishments.

At what point does the bowing and curtsying come into action? On The Crown, everytime the Prime Minister enters for a business meeting, he/she bows. And they even show Prince Charles nod when he comes for a personal talk with his mother. Why would they do it in private meetings when there is nobody else around?

I doubt Princess Alexandra will live to see that day.
And they will have to do it in public or they will disgrace themselves as a royal family, and then they will be consigned to limbo by Charles III.

Everyone has to bow or curtsy (or at least nod when introduced for the first time into the presence of the monarch and then when leaving him/her.
And everyone excepting only the reigning monarch must bow or curtsy before the reigning monarch's wife.
There are no exceptions among the Brits for this rule, according to the rules of etiquette. If you break them you are showing you do not respect the United Kingdom. There have been people who have flagrantly not respected this custom, but it would be disastrous if it were known a PM or his/her spouse did not respect it. There's a very funny scene when Tony and Cherie Blair are introduced to the Queen for the first time when she makes him PM, and we've been told beforehand Cherie is a fervent anti-monarchist. She both curtsies as she is supposed to when she is being introduced to the Queen and then when exitiing the room, and Helen McCrory makes the curtsying exit (where she also cannot turn her back on the queen) hilariously awkward and pained,
