I don’t know how I missed this movie, I guess I was watching mainly art films by the early 90s. This article makes it sound quite interesting, especially how they scrambled around the idea of who would play which parts. Sounds like a good movie for a crisp autumn day, and sandwiched in between Dead Poets Society and White Squall.
SCHOOL TIES - And the “Uncomfortable” Shower Scene for Matt Damon & Brendan Fraser

As a gayling, I thought Fraser was the hottest thing I had ever seen in this movie.

In my opinion, this was Matt Damion’s best role because he was basically playing himself.

Where's the video?

The Rewatchables podcast (run by Bill Simmons, whom I know some people can’t stand) did a good episode on this film and the backstory. It sounded like every early 20s guy of that generation auditioned for this film and there was some resentment that Fraser and Chris O’Donnell got the marketing push out of it.

Next to Randall Batinkoff?

[Quote]"It's their butts," Mandel confirms with a laugh. "There was no thought of using [stunt doubles] or face replacements either."
Butts?
Yes, male nudity in film is so brave.
🙄

So, the whole movie is about a Jewish boy at a school full of bigots? That's it?
The ending sounds so anticlimactic and pointless, too. What's the point of putting all these boys together if no one's going to grow from the experience or face any consequences for bigotry and cheating?

I really like that podcast. I like that they do call out some crap scenes in movies like the ending of Saving Private Ryan. I remember the School Ties episode and it was pretty good and I remember someone else on the podcast hated the cowards scene.

[quote] Interestingly, Mandel reveals that test audiences found that scene more uncomfortable to watch than it was for the actors to film. "When we previewed it in a longer version, the audience got very uncomfortable watching it," he remembers, adding that those reactions necessitated a re-edit of a sequence that was already challenging to cut together due to the choreography and nudity. "When it went on for too long, it kind of took you out of the movie and you thought, 'Oh my God, they're really naked in the shower.' The audience suddenly became aware of the physicality and would they get hurt? It took them out of the storyline and they got uncomfortable I think."
Not my reaction AT ALL.

What was the movie not so long ago that originally had male full frontal nudity, but test audiences got so distracted by the l size of the dong that they had to edit it out?
by Anonymous | reply 15 | September 29, 2022 6:08 PM |
It most certainly was not a Catholic Prep School. The very idea!
Do those people even have prep schools?

They filmed this at St Mark’s. Ironically lots of Saudi princes go there

I always heard Deerfield was a big draw for Saudis to the point that one of the countries completely recreated it as a campus and school in the Middle East?

R8, have you watched the movie? SPOILERS: The cheater is expelled, his best friend apologizes to Brendan’s character (and it's genuine), and a few other classmates express support during the vote. Not everyone supports him, but it would be unrealistic if they did in the 1950s. It's a good movie. I recommend watch Siskel & Ebert’s review for a thoughtful, nuanced review.

Wait, there's a movie with young Brendon Fraser's butt and even better that sweet Matt Damon butt and no one's posted a link yet?

Gene is right. The third act is weak. The old “accused of violating the honor code” chestnut, which would also figure in Scent of a Woman and others.

Where's the F*G guy who always appears when someone mentions Matt Damon? Oh, he's at r13. What a relief! I thought maybe he had impaled himself on a spike and bled to death.

@r27, Yeah, shut up fag hall monitor
Why do you show up every time there's a Matt Damon thread to admonish the fag = Matt Damon post? We thought you had impaled yourself on a spike and bled to death
We're VERY disappointed 😠

Actually the best part of the film is neither Fraser or Damon's ass but rather that stream of sudsy water that travels down the crack of Chris O'Donnell's supple ass cheeks.
