Are there any songs you’ve listened to over and over again on repeat? What song? Was there a reason or did you just enjoy the song?
Songs you’ve played on repeat for multiple listens?

1 + 1 by Beyonce. I have to hear it multiple times when I put it on. I think it's the tone and vocal phrasing that gets me. Or maybe that it borrows from Purple Rain.

Every few days I find myself watching this a number of time in a row just completely in awe, I think this is one of the most sophisticated pieces of music and staging in years. I wasn’t obsessed with Hamilton, nor do I particularly remember this song when I saw it, but I think I only grazed the meaning of what was going on on the surface, and it’s so complex and layered and watching it repeatedly unravels more and more.
The number of emotional beats it hits, many of them devastating, is the first thing you notice. It’s like memory becomes the knife of never letting go, only stabbing deeper. She sings it effortlessly, but it’s a very complex and technically hard song to sing, and if she misses a beat she fucked, there’s no recovering from it. And her breathing is nothing less than exquisite, she either has lungs of steel or she distilled it down to a complex scientific formula in how she needs to draw in breath and expel it perfectly to get through the whole song. I think this is the equal to a superb aria in the best opera.
And while all of that is going on there is then the staging, where you see everything being repeated, but then she’s pulled back out to experience the deeper emotion or thought going on longer in even individual seconds within that. Of course that’s a visual thing, but the reprise of the earlier song gives you that experience aurally as well. I’m so glad she won the Tony for this role.

Never was a Mathis fan, but this clip shows what a presence he must have been in nightclubs in the 50s... one of the great unrequieted gay love songs I'd never heard before... from 1951.

Shakira - Underneath Your Clothes from the album "Laundry Service" (2000)
I love this fucking song. It never gets boring to me and always takes me back to that time as a kid getting to use a pc for the first time and inserting CDs to listen to music and play games. This album was one of them and I fell in love with this song the moment I heard it. Great rock melody, eccentric lyrics that's quite the signature of Shakira and arguably one of her best vocal performances.

So many. Started with the girl singers and girl groups on 45s in the 1960s: Lesley Gore, Dusty Springfield, the Ronettes, the Chiffons, the Shirelles, the Crystals, the Supremes. Plus the Beach Boys, the Beatles, and all those '60s British groups. I remember one Saturday morning in 1964 when my father took me to Great Eastern so I could buy "Baby Love." I ran up to my room and played it over and over, all day long, driving him crazy.
My current favorite to play on repeat is the Crystals' "Then He Kissed Me."

I had cassette tapes that played propulsive dance music songs in a loop. I listened to them while running. One of my favorites was New Order Perfect Kiss, over and over and over. I was skinny and in fantastic shape as a runner and I felt light as air, with unlimited energy, like I was flying for an hour.

I hate to say it because it's so embarrassing. But I can listen to Demi Lovato's Cool for the Summer over and over again. The song is so over produced and has sounds from so many artist. It starts sounding like bubble gum light Taylor Swift with tones of Lana Del Rey on the "Too". Then you get a Klaxons battle cry that goes straight into a Katy Perry Anthem sound. It's just a wall of over produced, but very familiar sounds and at least five different moods. And it's so easy just to start it all over again. It's a great cardio song, or walking song. I still have zero idea as to what a Demi Lovato song is - she is just like a siphon, a means to get junk music on the stations and earning money.

"Se un core annodi" (If you can ensnare a heart), sung by an impeccable Philippe Jaroussky in 2010. The song is by a baroque composer called Antonio Caldara. Jaroussky's absolutely flawless timing, his unique little embellishments and the choir that is absolutely on point get me every time. The lyrics (by a very famous librettist) detail a tongue-in-cheek complaint about tyrant love and how he messes with our lives. It's the last song on the Caldara album and has a bonus track feeling to it. It's one of my absolute favourites - by all artists, ever.

After being reminded of it in the last scene of High School (the Freevee series based on Tegan & Sara's memoir of the same name), I've had "The Last Day Of Our Acquaintance" by Sinead on repeat the last few days. This live performance is incredible.
Also, highly recommend catching High School. Even if you're not a fan of, nor familiar with Tegan & Sara, it's a great coming of age (and coming out) story a lot of us can relate to. It has a killer 90's soundtrack. I can't imagine how much they paid in music rights. Clea Duval adapted the screenplay from the book.

R328, The Waitress is in the recent series based on Tegan & Sara's memoir. Cobie Smulders plays their mom and there's a great scene of her driving and blasting it.

I have an obsession with the Anna McCarrigle song "Heart Like a Wheel" that was a huge hit for Linda Ronstadt (released in 1974). Linda didn't sing one of the verses, probably for fear it would encourage suicide?? Anyway, I love it best:
They say that death is a tragedy - It comes once and it's over; But my only wish is for that deep dark abyss - Cause what's the use of living with no true lover?

Every song I've ever liked and heard, pretty much.
But I have Asperger's and possibly ADHD, so my brain feels good washed in rhythmic repetitive noisy loops. It's called stimming.
