Gays demand that only openly gay actors play gay roles

Of course they do, but the whole argument is that the playing field still isn't the same. Straight actors keep getting Oscar noms for "the courage to take on a gay role". When is the same thing going to happen for gay actors?

I can’t think of any openly gay actor playing a straight role. NPH did in How I Met Your Mother when he first came out. That’s all I can think of

I can't get on the "only gays should play gays" bandwagon.

Acting is fucking make-believe and everyone should play whoever they can. I am a gay actor, but I'm too old for anyone to give a shit about. I recently played my first (tiny) gay role on tv for which I'm pretty certain they only saw gay actors. I felt a big ghettoized like it was a consolation prize.

I cashed the check already.

The people who demand these things are never the actual people in question.
