Michelle Williams will win Best Supporting Actress for The Fabelmans!

I saw it at TIFF. Great film. Michelle is getting lots of buzz and she will win.

Paul Dano was also great, though they seem to be pushing Judd Hirsch's cameo.

Is this about Spielberg's youth in Arizona - Southwest Side Story?

by Anonymousreply 1September 12, 2022 6:58 AM

That's Paul Dano? Good grief.

by Anonymousreply 2September 12, 2022 1:02 PM

Is David Lynch in this?

by Anonymousreply 3September 12, 2022 1:17 PM

Hollywood is DESPERATE for this movie to succeed.

It WILL succeed.

by Anonymousreply 4September 12, 2022 1:25 PM

Michelle Williams has been miscast in so many films.....

And let's be real, the bitch is homely.

by Anonymousreply 5September 20, 2022 12:23 AM

Spielberg has been closing in on that third directing win for 23 years. Rooting for Michelle. She’s long overdue.

by Anonymousreply 6September 20, 2022 12:26 AM

OP, we been knew since much earlier in the year.

She was playing a fictionalised version of his mother in one of his most personal films, and she has four or so nods under her belt.

by Anonymousreply 7September 20, 2022 12:27 AM

[quote]She’s long overdue.

Let's not start with this shit again.

And for what? Name me one role that she actually pulled off. And if you say Marilyn Monroe, you will be laughed out of this place. She was awful in Brokeback Mountain, the weak link,

by Anonymousreply 8September 20, 2022 12:31 AM

DICK, R8, but that's the only thing I can think of that she was believable, and KiKi was better.

by Anonymousreply 9September 20, 2022 12:33 AM

Please don’t let this homely, overrated baby killing bitch win. All she can play is the fragile little bird role.

by Anonymousreply 10September 20, 2022 12:33 AM

Groan. There are so many talented actresses out there. Why must it always be Michelle Williams and Amy Adams who are showered with awards? So sick of their broken girl woman routines. Look how vulnerable I am America! Don't you want to cradle me in your arms and protect me? I come from a small bucolic town but I have MANY dark secrets, etc etc.

by Anonymousreply 11September 20, 2022 12:37 AM

Paul Dano looks like a thumb. Has all the charisma of one as well.

And of course she'll win, for the courage of sporting that idiot bowl cut alone.

by Anonymousreply 12September 20, 2022 12:38 AM

Damn. Paul Dano should play Trump.

by Anonymousreply 13September 20, 2022 12:43 AM

Michelle’s best work was H20. Jamie’s too.

by Anonymousreply 14September 20, 2022 12:43 AM

Is she pregnant?

I don't follow her, so I wouldn't know.

by Anonymousreply 15September 20, 2022 12:46 AM

I’ve never seen a single thing she’s been in and I still find her exhausting and pretentious. Is that wrong of me?

by Anonymousreply 16September 20, 2022 12:48 AM

r15 Yes, second kid with that cookie-smelling husband of hers.

by Anonymousreply 17September 20, 2022 12:49 AM

I have no clue who famous people are anymore. I’m only 43. Is this common?

by Anonymousreply 18September 20, 2022 12:50 AM

Michelle's best work was in the movie DIck with Kirsten Dunst. Dan Hedaya was funnier than both of them, though.

by Anonymousreply 19September 20, 2022 12:52 AM

R18: not on DL. Maybe in the real world…

by Anonymousreply 20September 20, 2022 12:53 AM

JFC, R17, what a homely-looking couple. Good thing they're richer than I will ever be, so....

Thanks for the info.

by Anonymousreply 21September 20, 2022 1:02 AM

Michelle seems like an ex-cult member. A truly fucked up bitch. She gives me the creeps.

by Anonymousreply 22September 20, 2022 1:04 AM

Why is she a baby killer??

by Anonymousreply 23September 20, 2022 1:21 AM

Is she black? If not, no chance.

by Anonymousreply 24September 20, 2022 1:56 AM

michelle is a mediocre actress. is she a harvey girl who got away with it like gwyn and j-law?

she also looks weird in photos, as if she was sucking on a lemon seconds earlier, i find it quite distracting. she should also fix her horrible hair, she looked leagues better with shoulder length cuts.

by Anonymousreply 25September 20, 2022 3:48 AM

Spielberg's parents were very Jewish looking, classic Eastern European Ashkenazi types and he couldn't find Jewish actors to play them? He's the most famous Jew in America next to Barbra!

My Jewish actor buddies go mental over this, but I'm like Spielberg, I couldn't care less who plays the gays, Jews and Italians, but these days many do. Still, I doubt Spielberg is likely to get canceled, lol.

by Anonymousreply 26September 20, 2022 5:21 AM

I saw the trailer , not one PoC in it , not sure about the movie though . If the casts are all white , it gonna be brought up in the awards season

by Anonymousreply 27September 20, 2022 5:34 AM

R25: She definitely got help from Weinstein.

by Anonymousreply 28September 20, 2022 11:13 AM

R8 Manchester By The Sea ok. I’ll start any shit I like.

by Anonymousreply 29September 20, 2022 10:12 PM

Michelle was a Weinstein girl - Blue Valentine and My Week With Marilyn (the movies that inexplicably gave her leading lady status) were all produced or distributed by him. She’s even mentioned in the original Weinstein girl piece from way back in 2013-2014. She even resembles JLaw or a cornfed Rose McGowan.

Anyways, La Widow Ledger reminds me a lot of Amy Adams in that they always give the most tepid broken doll performances and get heaps of critical praise and awards recognition for it. Amy Adams is at least tolerable in fluff and comedies, I don’t know who the hell told her she should focus on serious Oscar bait movies. She needed to follow the Goldie Hawn career mold.

by Anonymousreply 30September 20, 2022 10:24 PM

R30 I agree. I didn't mind Amy as the enchanted perky princess or rom com queen but her dramatic persona drives me nuts.

by Anonymousreply 31September 20, 2022 10:50 PM

Something tells me that this movie is going to hit some bumps in the road. Stay tuned .

by Anonymousreply 32September 20, 2022 10:57 PM

Michelle was a creation of Heavy Whalestein. She was one of Harvey's Girls. Now that Heavy is put away her career isn't exactly blowing up. I wonder if she is the new Trini Alvarado? A former friend of Spielberg during his marriage to Kate.

by Anonymousreply 33September 20, 2022 11:05 PM

Why do hysterical shriekers like R33 have to insist that every actress they hate is a Harvey Girl?

Michelle Williams had two supporting parts for Miramax: the forgotten Prozac Nation in 2000, then The Station Agent in 2003. She didn't work for him again until 2011 when she did My Week With Marilyn. That's two minor roles then a starring one almost a decade later -- and for that one, he derailed her Oscar campaign in favor of Meryl's for The Iron Lady. Nothing about that suggests she's ever been a Weinstein favorite.

But then again, most discussions about Harvey are usually just transparent excuses to call any actress younger than Dame Judi Dench a dirty slut.

by Anonymousreply 34September 20, 2022 11:31 PM

Blue Valentine and My Week With Marilyn were both produced and distributed and marketed by Whalestein. She was named as a Harvey girl BEFORE all the MeToo shit became mainstream - Harvey's exploits were well known (including on DL) and talked about at length as gossip.

This is from 2010 and almost all totally on the money. Mira Sorvino might be the only one they got wrong. I like Uma Thurman, but she was happy to play along as one of Miramax's blonde starlets until she almost died in a car wreck. And Gretchen Mol is 100000% lying about not having fucked Whalestein - how do you think she landed that infamous Vanity Fair cover? Bitch was sleeping around for bit roles in Abel Ferrara's indie movies the previous year!

Someone who's name is being bandied about and who I hope finally gets a nomination is Jamie Lee Curtis. She's worked steadily in the industry for over forty years. She's been on the shortlist for a nomination several times, but has never gotten in. I would love for her to finally get a nomination for Everything, Everywhere All At Once. '

by Anonymousreply 36September 21, 2022 12:33 AM

Jamie is fantastic. I hope she gets her due.

by Anonymousreply 37September 21, 2022 12:34 AM

Williams can only seem to do her broken doll routine. Her Sally in Cabaret on Broadway had none of the required charm or charisma required to make you fall in love with or at least be drawn to her. You just wanted to slap the little waif and tell her to stop pouting. She wasn't alluring, funny, or sexy at all. It really was a bizarre casting choice and you expected her Sally to slash her wrists 10 minutes in. Emma Stone came in after her and was wonderful, nailing everything Williams didn't.

by Anonymousreply 38September 21, 2022 12:49 AM

A shiksa playing a jew is not kosher in my book.

by Anonymousreply 39September 21, 2022 1:19 AM

This will sound petty but I just hate family melodramas. They bore me even if they're well made.

by Anonymousreply 40September 21, 2022 1:22 AM

What untold tragic stories will she share about Heath while promoting this movie?

by Anonymousreply 41September 21, 2022 1:33 AM

R41 Heath liked me best when I made sad faces that's why I can never stop making sad faces.

by Anonymousreply 42September 21, 2022 1:37 AM

Hate to use slang, but she's a big Nothingburger.

by Anonymousreply 43September 21, 2022 1:44 AM

I love to roll my eyes at the overrated and I was never a big Michelle Williams fan until My Week With Marilyn. I honestly thought she gave a sensational performance in that and elevated the whole thing. Since then I believe the hype around her. I think she's extremely talented.

Those offering jury-free trials of every actress appearing in a Weinstein film are tedious as fuck. You don't know the facts and unending smear campaigns about people you've never met, nor known is just petty harassment. Knock it off!

by Anonymousreply 44September 21, 2022 3:44 AM

Has an actress ever woman an Oscar for a Spielberg film?

by Anonymousreply 45September 21, 2022 3:50 AM

*won an Oscar

by Anonymousreply 46September 21, 2022 3:50 AM

God who's the loser who keeps saying "Broken doll Broken doll". Obviously she's more and you're opinion is minority and you're probably jealous of her beauty and fancy yourself somewhat of a 'broken doll' don't you hunny?

by Anonymousreply 47September 21, 2022 3:57 AM

R45, Ariana DeBose won Supporting Actress just last year for West Side Story.

by Anonymousreply 48September 21, 2022 4:01 AM

Oh, you’re right, R48! Forgot about her. I think she’s the first and only one though. Sally Field came close with Lincoln.

by Anonymousreply 49September 21, 2022 4:06 AM

Lol, R35 came with the receipts!

by Anonymousreply 50September 21, 2022 4:14 AM

As long as a POC wins best actress, I might be okay with this. But I said MIGHT. Don’t mess with me because I will beat the shit out of you, Michelle.

by Anonymousreply 51September 21, 2022 4:20 AM

That hysterical frau really didn’t, R50. Blue Valentine was a Sundance acquisition, so Harvey had nothing to do with its production. And that’s only a minor correction.

The rest of her post is just screeching “She’s a slut! And she’s a slut! And here’s this old blog post that proves it.”

by Anonymousreply 52September 21, 2022 4:24 AM

[quote]You just wanted to slap the little waif and tell her to stop pouting.

I'll wait until the Academy Awards.

by Anonymousreply 53September 21, 2022 4:31 AM

I'm a gay man, you big screaming Mary R52. Why do you care so much about defending some mediocre starlet's precious little honor? If she was a good actress, or even charismatic and beautiful like Uma Thurman, I'd be less harsh. But I do admit I hate this pallid cunt.

by Anonymousreply 54September 21, 2022 4:34 AM

Who didn’t get help from Weinstein? That is not a fair benchmark. She has a narrative of doing consistently good work. If it’s a sentimental film then she has a good chance. They already blew their credibly by rewarding Laura Dern for a television film.

by Anonymousreply 55September 21, 2022 4:36 AM

And a Weinstein acquisition as just as a good as a Weinstein production re: money and influence poured into marketing whatever film he did. That man ran Hollywood for two decades with his horrible personality and more so, his horrible taste.

The reason that there's no more low to mid-budget independent cinema scene like there flourished from the late 70s through the 90s is because Miramax decimated the indie film scene.

by Anonymousreply 56September 21, 2022 4:38 AM

Nettie Bening needs to get hers before this moon faced bitch

by Anonymousreply 57September 21, 2022 4:43 AM

Is that Paul Dano or Isabella Rossellini?

by Anonymousreply 58September 21, 2022 4:45 AM

She's on her 2nd marriage after her Great Romance and Widowing, and I find her tragic gamine elfin queen schtick rather antique around the edges.

by Anonymousreply 59September 21, 2022 4:48 AM

I didn’t even know the White Michelle Williams was Jewish?

by Anonymousreply 60September 21, 2022 4:57 AM

As she's getting enough hate, I'll do my bit to balance the books by saying I've always enjoyed Williams in films. It surprised me to see someone from The Creek going on to such a good film career, but I always thought she was better than the material on that show...which I wouldn't say about Katie or James or Kerr. I loved her in Brokeback Mountain, Blue Valentine, Take This Waltz, Manchester by the Sea (she should have won Best Supporting Actress; unlike the winner that year, she really had a supporting role). My Week with Marilyn wasn't much, but the problems there were conceptual and script issues. I don't think it would have been a good movie with any cast. I look forward to seeing The Fabelmans. Thanks, OP.

by Anonymousreply 61September 21, 2022 5:14 AM

Her dating history post-Ledger is very strange. Spike Jonze, Jason Segel, and indie music legend Phil Elverum (whose first wife died of cancer not long before he met Michelle). Then she cheated on him with the Hamilton guy.

by Anonymousreply 62September 21, 2022 5:50 AM

R62 She hooked up with Lin Manuel Miranda?

by Anonymousreply 63September 21, 2022 6:14 AM

Correction: I'm winning LEAD actress.

Kyle Buchanan writes for the New York Times.

Variety is also reporting that Williams is going for Lead.

by Anonymousreply 67September 21, 2022 8:22 PM

Should he be using Twitter in this way to curb the general opinion? Isn’t he compromising his journalistic ethics?

by Anonymousreply 68September 21, 2022 8:47 PM

She won't win lead. This was a dumb move on her part. She probably would have won supporting. NO way she'll lose to Cate's incredible performance in Tar .... or beat an Asian in this time of representation obsession (Michelle Yeoh for the "Everywhere" movie")

by Anonymousreply 69September 21, 2022 8:51 PM

^^^ I meant, no way she'll win against Cate or Michelle.

by Anonymousreply 70September 21, 2022 8:52 PM

I’m not sure which type of category fraud I hate more-actors in the lead category when they should be in supporting or vice versa.

Williams was way more suited to play Mia Farrow than Marilyn Monroe. Zero sexual appeal.

by Anonymousreply 71September 21, 2022 8:54 PM

Supporting Actors who go Lead don't bother me because they're choosing to compete at a higher level of difficulty. With the exception of Anthony Hopkins in The Silence of the Lambs, it's usually a bad move, but it doesn't feel like cheating when a smaller role gets nominated in lead.

by Anonymousreply 72September 21, 2022 9:07 PM

R34 Shut up you Whalestein Stan. Stop being so Fuck ng silly with your naive little act. Heavy is in prison now no need to defend him or Ms Williams for any reason.

R35 Thanks for your reasoning. I appreciate you standing up for the truth.

by Anonymousreply 73September 21, 2022 9:18 PM

Michelle Yeoh is the frontrunner right now, but I think Danielle Deadwyler could pick up MAJOR steam from Till and become a serious contender. I don't see them giving Cate Blanchett a third so soon. She's too young. And she's not the type of actress where a third is a requirement.

I really hope De Armas doesn't get in. That movie sounds sleazy and degrading and even more awful than that Kristin Stewart turd from last year.

Michelle going into lead seems to have knocked Viola Davis out of the top five, but I'm sure the controversy from the movie isn't helping matters either.

by Anonymousreply 74September 21, 2022 10:06 PM

I hear Blanchett is a done deal. A performance for the ages. No one saw it coming.

by Anonymousreply 75September 21, 2022 10:35 PM

[quote] I don't see them giving Cate Blanchett a third so soon. She's too young. And she's not the type of actress where a third is a requirement.

I agree. Look how long it took Meryl to win her third.

But then again, Frances Mcdormand has three, so it could happen for Cate.

by Anonymousreply 76September 21, 2022 10:41 PM

[quote]I don't see them giving Cate Blanchett a third so soon. She's too young. And she's not the type of actress where a third is a requirement.

Blanchett is only two years younger than Daniel Day-Lewis when he got his third for Lincoln. And, like Day-Lewis, she's exactly the type of person you'd expect to win three acting Oscars.

by Anonymousreply 77September 21, 2022 11:12 PM

Cate's not well liked in the industry. She can be aloof and a snob.

Michelle Yeoh is the frontrunner right now. Cate might get a nomination, but a win is highly unlikely.

by Anonymousreply 78September 21, 2022 11:17 PM

Michelle Yeoh is NOT the frontrunner. Her stiff line readings even in a film as good as Everything Everwhere All At Once will keep her from ever receiving awards recognition. She’s always been a stuntwoman/martial arts competitor who’s trying to act. She’s not a natural actress by any stretch of the imagination.

by Anonymousreply 79September 21, 2022 11:59 PM

R79 = Cate Blanchett

by Anonymousreply 80September 22, 2022 1:56 AM

R78 I had never heard of her being unliked. Based on all the work she gets i would assume the opposite

by Anonymousreply 81September 22, 2022 2:07 AM

Cate was excellent in nightmare alley

by Anonymousreply 82September 22, 2022 5:50 AM

Wow, Michelle Williams going for Lead is dumb. She doesn't have a chance in winning Lead, but she would have won Supporting.
