What does WHET stand for?

I see it all the time on DL. Whatever happened to?

by Anonymousreply 46September 12, 2022 1:20 PM

It means you're all whet 🙄

by Anonymousreply 1September 10, 2022 11:33 PM

WEHT is the acronym you are seeking.

by Anonymousreply 2September 10, 2022 11:35 PM

It is a DL stand against conformity. Rage against the machine. It means What Ever Happened To (WEHT) but someone once misspelled the abbreviation and it is now the official accepted shorthand. Just like the proper way to announce a death, DEAD TO ME. I hope that is correct or I will be properly and deservedly berated.

by Anonymousreply 3September 10, 2022 11:35 PM

Kudos to r3

by Anonymousreply 4September 11, 2022 12:20 AM

Some of these original typos reign supreme [WHET, Lens (Dunham)], because they were funny and caught the collective imagination. Others are like 'fetch,' i.e., they aren't going to happen, no matter how hard the tryhards try, e.g., "bearking news."

by Anonymousreply 5September 11, 2022 12:26 AM

When I first stumbled onto DL a few years ago, one of the first threads I read was a WHET thread. I posted to it and attempted to correct WHET to WEHT and felt very superior. I was torn to shreds.

by Anonymousreply 6September 11, 2022 12:35 AM

Not torn enough

by Anonymousreply 7September 11, 2022 12:42 AM

[quote]Just like the proper way to announce a death, DEAD TO ME.

Or the proper way to announce an impending death or someone just looking ill: SAD LAST DAYS.

by Anonymousreply 8September 11, 2022 12:45 AM

I thought BEARKING had legs but that died a quick death.

by Anonymousreply 9September 11, 2022 12:51 AM

by Anonymousreply 10September 11, 2022 12:55 AM

WHET shows the ignorant are prevailing.

by Anonymousreply 11September 11, 2022 12:57 AM

When was the last time you heard cak or graxy?

by Anonymousreply 12September 11, 2022 12:57 AM

It shows you're illiterate and can't read the language of Data Lounge, r11.

by Anonymousreply 13September 11, 2022 12:59 AM

R12, I just saw a cak reference the other day.

by Anonymousreply 14September 11, 2022 1:00 AM

R13 - Who's Illiterate?

by Anonymousreply 15September 11, 2022 1:00 AM

R9 BEARKING NEWS: BEARKING is still very much alive.

by Anonymousreply 16September 11, 2022 1:02 AM

THICC - don't forget me and my beautiful thighs!

by Anonymousreply 17September 11, 2022 1:02 AM

Thank you, r14, I find that comforting.

by Anonymousreply 18September 11, 2022 1:05 AM

Ask Jackie On Assistance.

by Anonymousreply 19September 11, 2022 1:16 AM

I don't think Shits Fired is going away soon.

by Anonymousreply 20September 11, 2022 1:18 AM

Illiterate? I actually think “What happened ever to” has a certain poetic lilt to it, almost Shakespearean.

by Anonymousreply 21September 11, 2022 1:29 AM

I made a cak reference recently while defending New Hamster.

by Anonymousreply 22September 11, 2022 1:41 AM

r16 I think a lot of people are actually misreading BEARKING as BREAKING so they think it's died out when it hasn't. It's only obvious when accompanied by its designated emojis 🐻👑. Without the emojis, it's likely easily missed.

I'm trying to come up with a jokey new topic to post about "Amtrak Trans" but no luck so far.

by Anonymousreply 27September 11, 2022 2:53 AM

R27 - Seriously?

by Anonymousreply 28September 11, 2022 8:58 AM

What’s graxy?

by Anonymousreply 29September 11, 2022 10:15 AM

Fags!

by Anonymousreply 30September 11, 2022 10:36 AM

R29 Gravy

by Anonymousreply 31September 11, 2022 2:54 PM

Let's not forget Jackie On Assistance.

by Anonymousreply 32September 11, 2022 3:53 PM

r19 didn't, r32.

by Anonymousreply 33September 11, 2022 4:01 PM

R32 & R33 - R4 didn't forget either.

by Anonymousreply 34September 11, 2022 6:13 PM

Girls. Girls. You're all annoying.

by Anonymousreply 36September 11, 2022 6:22 PM

The number of times I've been corrected for "Walla, all of a sudden" astounds me.

In the old days, I assumed someone was riffing when I saw something so silly. Not anymore.

by Anonymousreply 37September 11, 2022 6:42 PM

Thank you all for pointing out my failure to read this thread closely re Jackie O(A). There's really nothing left for me to do but...

by Anonymousreply 38September 11, 2022 11:01 PM

[quote]Just like the proper way to announce a death, DEAD TO ME.

Newbies insist that this his the rule, but it's not and never has been. It was just a few years ago when someone had an epic hissy fit and started using sockpuppets to FF anyone who did not use "dead to me," making their threads go gray and disappear.

DL doesn't have rules for things like that. There are memes but not rules. Unfortunately, in the last few years there has been an increase in posters with personality disorders freaking out if they think you've broken a "rule."

by Anonymousreply 40September 11, 2022 11:12 PM

There was a time some years back when the full phrase was, "DEAD TO ME! DEAD, I Tell You!" I rather liked that extra histrionic flourish.

by Anonymousreply 41September 11, 2022 11:50 PM

[quote]DL doesn't have rules for things like that. There are memes but not rules.

Although I generally agree that the DL is a backroom gangbang where everyone is on meth with no real rules - at a certain point social norms become "rules."

I mean, there's no "rule" that a woman cannot wear white to another woman's wedding, but you get universal censure if you do it. There's no rule that you have to let your trick shower afterwards, but it's polite to let him if he asks.

by Anonymousreply 42September 12, 2022 12:07 AM

But what if you only have one towel and are not running a bed and breakfast R42?

by Anonymousreply 43September 12, 2022 12:13 AM

[quote]The number of times I've been corrected for "Walla, all of a sudden" astounds me.

R37 You mean "voilà" which could be pronounced "walla"? This is the only conclusion I can draw.

by Anonymousreply 44September 12, 2022 2:26 AM

Just saw "Tao glasses of wine" posted.

This needs to be a new one!

by Anonymousreply 45September 12, 2022 1:14 PM

[quote][R37] You mean "voilà" which could be pronounced "walla"? This is the only conclusion I can draw.

QED.

No, like so many malaprops and weird idiosyncracies on DL, there was a period a while back after someone got "oh, dear"-ed for writing "Walla, all of sudden" that people frequently wrote it in lieu of "voila."
