The "Don't Wear White After Labor Day" rule

What if a woman's dress has some white in it? How much is too much? What about off-white? What about white socks? White leggings? White berets? And when in the spring can she start wearing white again?

by Anonymousreply 38September 15, 2022 9:28 AM

I have lived in Hawaii and Miami for the last 35 years. Have never given this rule one thought.

by Anonymousreply 1September 10, 2022 9:30 PM

Fashion has changed.

by Anonymousreply 2September 10, 2022 9:41 PM

That rule no longer applies.

by Anonymousreply 3September 10, 2022 9:42 PM

Of course the rule still applies. How ridiculous.

by Anonymousreply 4September 10, 2022 9:44 PM

r3 is new to DL.

by Anonymousreply 5September 10, 2022 9:45 PM

The rule only applies to shoes.

And if they’re tennis shoes, it only applies for the first thirty seconds they are worn (after that, they’re no longer white)

by Anonymousreply 6September 10, 2022 9:46 PM

No, it hasn’t!

by Anonymousreply 7September 10, 2022 9:46 PM

I have never cared about this rule and do not now but man, I had a former boss who very. much. had differing opinions on the subject than I did. I really thought she may fire me. I think it's a stupid rule. If it's 90 degrees and I want to wear white, I will. Even if it's November

by Anonymousreply 8September 10, 2022 9:51 PM

The rule only applies East of the Mississippi and North of the Mason-Dixon line. Everywhere else, no. Definitely not in California.

by Anonymousreply 9September 10, 2022 9:51 PM

Don't fucking do it.

by Anonymousreply 10September 10, 2022 9:51 PM

R9, that's cuz we don't have seasons in California. Lol, love you.

by Anonymousreply 11September 10, 2022 9:52 PM

R9, you are incredibly ignorant.

by Anonymousreply 12September 10, 2022 9:53 PM

Winter white.

by Anonymousreply 13September 10, 2022 9:54 PM

R12 You're incredibly preposterous.

by Anonymousreply 14September 10, 2022 10:03 PM

R14 will never be invited to KA’s Old South ball.

Much less asked to rush.

by Anonymousreply 15September 10, 2022 10:06 PM

R15 Hopefully.

by Anonymousreply 16September 10, 2022 10:48 PM

Also, i want to fuck Bowen Yang. Is it ok to fuck Bowen Yang after Labor Day?

Wear white after Labor Day and face Episcopal hell... Choose carefully 😠

by Anonymousreply 18September 14, 2022 9:38 AM

DO IT and we shall find out!

by Anonymousreply 19September 14, 2022 11:15 AM

No one has followed this rule in decades.

by Anonymousreply 20September 14, 2022 11:24 AM

^ Well, maybe in YOUR trailer park 😂

by Anonymousreply 21September 14, 2022 11:47 AM

My darling mother reminds me that back in the day, only brides and nurses were free to wear white between Labor Day and Memorial Day.

Women who flout sartorial rules are no better than harlots and streetwalkers. As Mother says, why do they bother dressing at all?

by Anonymousreply 22September 14, 2022 12:06 PM

What does one do in the Southern Hemisphere, when US Labor Day more or less marks the beginning of summer?

by Anonymousreply 23September 14, 2022 12:17 PM

The weather, location, and time dictated the rule.

Would I wear white bucks at Christmas in the Northeast? Certainly not. If I were in Miami, Honolulu, or in a tropical setting at Christmas? Why not?

by Anonymousreply 24September 14, 2022 12:25 PM

^ And I must say that you look quite fetching in your white bucks, Mr. Herman 😍

OP, you sound like you were raised in a barn. Really!

by Anonymousreply 26September 14, 2022 12:54 PM

That went out with men having to wear hats and women having to wear stockings.

by Anonymousreply 27September 14, 2022 1:42 PM

However ladies are still required to wear fabric over their breasts in Salt Lake City.

The rule applies to shoes and handbags.

by Anonymousreply 29September 14, 2022 3:39 PM

White pants and white shoes seem out of place in the fall and winter.

by Anonymousreply 30September 14, 2022 3:49 PM

@r28, See, first you let them wear white after Labor Day and the next thing you know they're painting their boobs and going to football games. It's the end of social order I tell you

by Anonymousreply 31September 14, 2022 4:34 PM

Yes, yes, you can wear your white panties, garters, and stocking set that you so like to get fucked in....

by Anonymousreply 32September 14, 2022 4:35 PM

^ just be sure you coordinate it with your chastity cage and your butt plug

by Anonymousreply 33September 14, 2022 4:38 PM

No one in California follows this rule as stated above. We don't have seasons. People wear whatever they want, whenever. It's ridiculous in this climate.

by Anonymousreply 34September 14, 2022 4:40 PM

[quote]you can wear your white panties, garters, and stocking set that you so like to get fucked in

Pics please.

by Anonymousreply 35September 14, 2022 4:41 PM

In recent tines this “rule” has become an almost cliched shorthand way to make fun of effete snobs. I remember the first time I ever heard it voices was by Niles Crane on “Frasier.”

by Anonymousreply 36September 14, 2022 4:41 PM

If one does want to wear whites after labor day, are there any conventions about what KIND of whites? Asking for a friend.

by Anonymousreply 37September 15, 2022 9:19 AM

^ Winter white around the holidays is considered acceptable in some circles, but they're NOKD (Not Our Kind Dear)
