Who gets what?
Queen Elizabeth II's $500 million fortune

I don't believe that figure. I've always believed that the British Sovereign is a great, great deal more wealthy than what is reported.

500 Million? That is all? After she pays of hush money to the women Andrew trafficked, nothing will be left.

r1
That's possible. The FAMILY is worth much more but her particular share may be substantially less.
For instance there may be trusts and things that are legally separate from what she has to leave

What a great article. "we don't know exactly how much she's worth since its never been disclosed, and the definition varies due to the difference between state and private wealth. Charles probably gets everything. But since royal wills are sealed we won't know exactly for a century yet".

So little?

The real estate they own surrounding Regent's Park is worth considerably more than that.

[quote]The real estate they own surrounding Regent's Park is worth considerably more than that.
But who actually owns it? Does she? Is it in a trust that is legally separate from the Queen's person?

I’m more fascinated that AOL still exists. That’s ripe for an “Elder gays, Tell Us About AOL”

r7 I'm assuming its part of the duchy of Lancaster since the whole area was part of the liberties of the Savoy. So semi state but separate from Crown estates.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | September 10, 2022 3:56 PM |
There's a difference between the money that belongs to the Crown (and the Duchy of Lancaster) and the money that belongs to the queen personally.

She owed all the geese in Canada.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | September 10, 2022 4:16 PM |
R11 yeah that's why I said semi state. It's chancellor is a cabinet position so it's not like they can just flog the land to the Saudis. But it's held separate from the actual state run crown estates, and the privatly owned Balmoral. You can see why it's hard to calculate her wealth!

Long before the age of the internet and the current generation multibillionaires, I remember reading an article about the queen, in which it was maintained that she was the richest person in the world, having a fortune somewhere in the range of $5-6 billion (IIRC).
But as others have already said, that wealth could now be (or even back then have been) held in a trust.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | September 10, 2022 4:27 PM |
Wow, she has enough stuff for everyone 😛
by Anonymous | reply 15 | September 10, 2022 4:58 PM |
A similar situation is the Duke of Westminster, where most of the dukedom's interests are now in a trust.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | September 10, 2022 4:59 PM |
Years ago, she was worth about 12 billion.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | September 10, 2022 7:56 PM |
I don't think it's possible to put a dollar amount on what the Queen was worth. The woman owns priceless jewels, art work and antiques. How do you put a value on stuff determined to be priceless? It would take a complete accounting firm years to even decide what she actually owns outright. Plus you know they have secret stuff all over the world that few even know about

Considering ALL of her money was taken by Brit citizens through their taxes, perhaps they can all get checks.

She was the head of the world’s richest welfare family

R17 Those were the days when The Sunday Times yearly rich list included the Queens personal wealth and the stuff that belongs to the Crown together. Those paintings and stuff are worth billions, but the Queen couldn’t sell them. Whereas for eg she has one of the most expensive stamp collections in the world that she owns personally.
The Queen must surely have arranged generous trusts for Anne, Andrew, Edward and her grandchildren I would have thought.

As someone else mentioned previously, it is typical that the entire bulk of the passed on Sovereign's personal fortune is inherited by the heir as this is the only instance where the entirety of that inheritance is legally protected from any sort of taxation across the board. It has already been reported that the King now combines his personal fortune of an estimated $100 million with that of the inheritance, making his personal net worth at around $600 million. The Duchy of Cornwall provided the former Prince of Wales with an annual income of $26 million, and he was legally exempt from paying tax on that figure though it is said that he did so voluntarily.

Such a basic article. Those properties and possessions can't be flogged off, they belong to the 'Crown', of which she was until now a custodian. More accurate to show us her bank balance at Coutts to see how much she had in cold, hard cash.

Actually she's giving all the money to Hoobastank.
She used to follow the band in the 90s.
She liked to be addressed as Your Royal Hoobastanktress

"Wow, she has enough stuff for everyone"
It would be a nice gesture if they just gave everyone in the United Kingdom and equal share of it.

^ I agree, since her ancestors basically stole all their stuff from the people anyway. Give it back
by Anonymous | reply 26 | September 11, 2022 1:44 PM |
Give the money to the National Health and end the fucking money sucking monarchy.

R26. Most notably by her ancestors, plundering and pillaging from former colonies .
